[Project] 2708 kernels for Legacy Builds (ezterry look, or anyone w/ 2708 experience) - G1 Android Development

Introduction:
Two questions.
1: should they be renamed to be 2825 kernels?
2: I need some help. I have realized that 1.5 hero roms provide an amazing experience with the extra ram; when swap and cc are disabled, while still leaving sense running, I can switch freely between clock, browser, messaging, and rosie (sense homescreen) without any of them quitting. App launch times are phenomenal, and I really would like to use a 1.5 hero as a daily rom.
Unfortunately, SD card, ringtones, and other features don't work. My only explanation for this is because historically, hero 1.5 roms always had a seperate modules.sqf in /system/modules/modules.sqf.
I think this is the reason, because when I try a 1.5 non-hero rom with a 2708 kernel, the result is all of these functions working perfectly.
Some comments:
I find it amazing that these newer kernels work so well with the older roms.
I will update this thread as progress occurs.
CURRENT PROGRESS
The only progress I know of is this:
ezterry has posted an "OLDBUILDS" kernel that enables only 8 of the available 14 megs so that camera works.
Download: http://sandbox.devnull.name/android/ezOldBuildsKernel-2708_S.zip
Please help. This can be an amazing project.

Beawtifull thread.
I love sense roms (1.5 is ok ) and also vanilla donut.
With some mb of ram more would be amazing !
I have used 1.6 vanilla with 14mb ram more, but camera don't works.

update:
I can't find any 1.5 sense roms for g1 that DONT have the modules.sqf, but rather have them somewhere else.
Could people please:
1. provide me with information about what modules.sqf is, and how it can be extracted/ combined/moved/ etc so that anykernel will pick up those modules.
2. find a 1.5 sense hero rom without the modules.sqf, but with the necessary files to allow SD access and ringtone selection to work.
known not to work
mightymax hero 1.9
maxisma sense 2.0.1
qteknology 3.05 cupcake sense
sensehero 1.4
3. These problems could also be caused by xbin.sqf, as in the proper xbins aren't able to be accessed that allow sd card and ringtone selection... but both of those are conrolled by mediaserver which is in bin (afaik).
Smart people please input.

nobody? at least post your thoughts here about what you think i'm doing, is it stupid, is it blatantly obvious, etc?
Essentially what i'm asking for is a 1.5 kernel that works with 2708.

Um. The sqf files are just squash fs disk images (mount them via loop).. there is no reason my kernel will have an issue with this.
If /system/xbin isn't mounted check logcat/dmesg.
Make sure losetup is finding the loop device.. you may need some shortcuts to be added in init.rc to adjust the loop device location.. that or pull losetup or toolbox from a newer build and see if it helps.
If the screen isn't black its mostly just updating the core version of linux to behave I think.

No news? I would really love sense 1.5 with 14mb ram hack, or vanilla 1.6 with more 14mb

bumpidibump
jcarrz:
did you try the zx 1.5 hero (zachattack xillius thing)? dont know how it is called correctly

id go for sensehero 1.4 with the extra ram!
still the most stable/usable sense rom i ever flashed.

Both Amon_RA ION1.6 and the ZX_Donut (and more) will run with ezterry's 2708 kernel. you will need to set the camera's rez to 1mb to take pictures. An if i remember correctly the wlan.ko from a CM or CM builds such as the biffmod is needed to make the wifi work.
I ran donut with ezterry's kernel for a long time, and finally switched to CM 6.1 due lots of new apps i want to try are 2.1+ only.

yup, IIRC i tried it awhile ago and camera worked in high rez.
phone pictures are generally for a quick share on social networking sites anyways, 1mp was the setting i've always used.

Glad to still see an interest in this. I've been fooling around, and made some progress.
first, Beav_35 has made a donut 2708 kernel that has had mixed results for me so far. He nor I are responsible for any damage to your phone. it is not guaranteed to work at all. use at your own risk.

Second, I am working on getting a nice 1.5 sense working 100% on the g1. I will update this thread periodically.

thanks jcarzz1! il watch this thread!

Are there any complete, stable , ready-made Donut ROMs that has a 2708 kernel? Preferably AOSP.

[PORT][32A/32B][Old radio]ahmgsk's Eclair 2.1 - EXPERIMENTAL, working 3D (Mar 2nd)

For the last couple of days I've been trying to get Eclair 3D acceleration running on 32A with old radio. I was somehow succesful so I decided to release one Sense based ROM port and one "plain" Eclair. I had succes with other ROMs though (not all of them, but a few). Edit March 2nd - It now seems that it works on 32B/G1 as well, so I've added the porting package for those phones, see below.
This ROM is highly experimental! So bear that in mind. The only testing I've done is here on my own Magic - I am not using any ext3/ext4 partition for app2sd, for example, so I'm not sure how it behaves if you use one.
I've added a few things here and there that are essential to me like Market Enabler, More Locale 2, some ringtone and notification files and mixed in a few files from other Eclair ROMs to get a few things working. I've also changed the default analog clock (the Android widget, not HTC widget) to Pulse clock.
Thanks to:
ahmgsk (obviously), Kingclick, Cyanogen and all the other devs working on his kernel source, Amon_RA, all OpenEclair devs, polyrhytmic, dzo, vilord and many others.
What seems to work:
- 3D acceleration seems to work fine. I can get about 20fps in Neocore benchmark. I've also tested Radiant, Armadillo Roll and iDracula and they all seem to work. 3D Gallery works as well.
- Multitouch works
- Camera works, mostly - no video recording, though. If you take picture, it shows a garbled screen for a moment, but the picture itself is taken just fine.
- GPS and accelerometer work
- LED notifications work, all colors
- Bluetooth MIGHT work, needs testing. But you can enable it.
- Google Sync seems to work just fine
What seems not to work:
- YouTube and video playback in gallery doesn't work at all for now. Sorry.
Known Issues:
- Rather slow on startup. Give it time to start up fully, even after you see the home screen. You may even get a few "App not responding - FC/Wait?" warnings - just click on Wait and give it more time. But after it starts, it seems pretty fast to me. It's no SuperD, but still quite fast, I'd say.
- Live wallpapers are problematic and I'd recommend staying away from them. Some work (not very fast, though), some don't.
- Launcher 2 is problematic. I've kept it in the ROM and it certainly looks nice, but I've had all sorts of problems when I had it enabled, including long phone freezes, terrible lag in applications and other. I'd HIGHLY recommend just using the "normal" launcher (it's "Nexus style" anyway).
Note:
Take this port "as is" 'cause I probably won't support it much. I think of it more as a "proof of concept" that seemed too cool to me not to share it with others, but I don't have enough time to offer full support or work on it much these days. Maybe I'll release another version someday, maybe not. Sorry. I'm just being honest here.

but this driver 3d not work on magic 32b??Why not come out yet for the ROM 32b?
It might, as I don't think the solution here is specific to 32A. I'll maybe try to make a 32B kernel soon and let someone test it. Right now, I've yet to hear about this working for someone else on 32A other than me
Im flashing it ATM.
Give me a few minutes
ok when you relase a 32b Kernel,Warn
Well, i flashed it.
You're right, 3D is working
I tried it with SpeedX and Hyper Space, and they both are working. Not as fast as it would on a donut based rom (looks like the frame rate is a little lower) but they are absolutely working.
Launcher2 is still a bit laggy.
Some Live Wallpapers aren't working, they forced the phone to restart.
The gallery is working.
There are some bugs (like pressing the home button while in an app, will sometimes block my phone) that forced me to remove the battery.
This rom is not working enough for a daily use, but you did a great job.
Waiting for a bug fix Imma try the hero port now
Good to know, thanks!
BTW, as I've mentioned in the first post, I don't recommend using Launcher 2, it causes all sorts of weird issues with this ROM. And I also mention that live wallpapers are problematic and you should just stay away from them
Oh, and as for the framerates in 3D - in my experience they're actually slightly higher on average than with my own SuperD port I'm now using as a day-to-day ROM (I miss Sense UI, but 1.5 is starting to lag behind on all the interesting stuff, so...).
Case_ thx for working on this
i could not work becoz my tester was on new radio
i hope u get my hero 2.1 working too
From what I gather, this is a KERNEL modification that makes the HERO drivers work with this "old radio", correct?
Could you please provide the kernel diff (patch)?
ahmgsk: You're welcome. I'm always somehow uneasy as to what the reaction of the original dev would be when I'm using and perhaps modifying someone else's work, so thanks for this
I'll try to follow the progress of most Eclair ROMs but I'm gonna be quite busy for at least the next week or so, so no promises on any other updates or more ports (but I'd LOVE to have a reliable Sense UI ROM with Android 1.6 or higher, I can tell you that - Kinglick's Eclair Hero is close, but still not close enough to rely on it on day-to-day basis). I'm glad I managed to at least steal the weekend for Android for once and got this working, more or less.
lbcoder: Actually, there's really not much to patch. I've spent countless hours trying to port parts of the Kaiser kernel as discussed in one of the G1 forum threads, yet in the end I've ended up using pretty much just the plain vanilla Cyanogen Eclair kernel sources with only the camera code backported from the Donut sources to get the camera working (but I can certainly provide some kind of diff if need be).
Then there's the permission problem with /dev/msm_hw3dc and /dev/msm_hw3dm that on most Eclair ROMs needs fixing (chmod 666 and chmod 660 in init.rc, respectively).
And then it might or might not be an issue with the contents of /system/lib/egl and /system/lib/hw (and perhaps some other libs as well) which, I'm sorry to say, I've yet to fully test. Those from ahmgsk's AME Eclair seem to work, but looks to me like it's not exclusively just those, that it might work with some others as well. I know it's not very professional (but I've said it many times, I'm no dev and certainly no coder, I'm just determined and persistent ), but I honestly didn't have time to test those different libraries fully, sorry. I was just trying to get something as usable as possible and share it with others so they may perhaps investigate further. Though it somehow amazes me that I of all people got it working when there's so many people with coding and Android knowledge WAY beyond my own here (which is not that hard to achieve, anyway)

Why? I remember in the original ahmgsk 's ROM they are working as well...
What has been changed from the old to the new Radio/SPL to break the YouTube/Gallery video playback?
As for the "why?", that's a very good question I'd really like to know the answer to.
As for "what has changed" - the kernel has changed (had to for the ROM to work with the old radio) and with it all the "drivers". I'm not happy that YouTube and video doesn't work, but I don't have much time to investigate further right now. And until now, neither did Eclair 3D acceleration with the old radio, so I guess it's still progress.
I'm sure someone will figure it out eventually.
Added links for 32B/G1 porting package. Yes, 3D really seems to work on those phones as well.
how do I apply the 32B patch?
just replace the files with the once from teh original zip file , repack it, and then apply the new zip?

download both zip files, apply zip one, then apply the 2nd one other the other.
replacing files wont work because of the files within the "META-INF" folder

[ROM][32B] KiNgxKxKlair DroidEris2G1 WG kernel with ramhack (updated Mar 13 1pm GMT)

Disclaimers first:
1) The original ROM thread is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642643. Read it for details of what works, what doesn't. I've posted this in a new thread, because I didn't want to derail King's thread with an "unofficial" hack of his ROM, which might potentially generate support requests and people claiming there are problems that aren't down to his work.
2) I deserve no plaudits for this. All I did was rip the kernel (and, as it turned out, I also needed the wlan.ko) out of OpenEclair and shove it into King's ROM.
3) This also includes the fixes by xSunny and Vega over in the original thread (in fact it's based on Sunny's Nexus boot .zip file)
4) The WG kernel doesn't work with 2.1 3D. So I figured we might as well have the RAM hack and get our 10Mb back. SO DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO TRY TO RUN 3D APPS ON THIS - THEY WILL RUN LIKE A DOG. If you want Sense AND 3D, use King's original ROM.
5) As always with ROMs, I am not responsible for anything that might happen, e.g. your phone getting bricked, the world undergoing a total existence failure, etc. If you don't agree with that assertion don't flash this.
Right, that's over with. So what is this?
King's original ROM, especially with the tweaks made by Sunny and Vega is a beautiful bit of work. It's the first Sense ROM that's actually been usable on my phone. However, it has a BFS kernel and I absolutely *hate* BFS with a passion. I personally don't think it helps performance that much, and the way it makes the device miss half of your finger swipes so it's like having a resistive screen again. So I decided to see how the WG kernel worked out, being (IMO) the best kernel around at the moment.
I used the non-ram hack WG kernel from OpenEclair initially, and got good results, but on my Magic 32b (what you Yanks would call a MT3G ) the ramhack kernel is a frelling BEAST. This makes Sense feel as smooth as Dwang's Donut.
Enough yakking, give it a try, give some feedback. And most importantly, enjoy and have fun.
Requirements:
* FAT-EXT4-SWAP partitions on your SD. That's EXT4. Not EXT3 or EXT2. You'll get gapps FCs left, right and center if you ignore this little infonugget.
* A nice big SWAP. I've got 106Mb. But at least 96Mb.
Non-RAM hack version - this is a bit pointless now, as 3D doesn't work anyway so you might as well have the ramhack version, but just in case:
http://chillbeast.com/KingSunnyWGKernelSigned.zip (thanks to chillbeast for the mirror)
Ramhack version:
http://www.4shared.com/file/240315699/5ee0521f/KingSunnyWGRamHackSigned.html
Thanks to King, Sunny, Vega, WG - and please note my total contribution on this has been in total about 2 hours tops. I'm just the bloke who mixed the cocktail. Those other guys are the master distillers.
What about a version without A2SD??
both of them get broken camera. will u fix it?
This is the fastest Sense ROM I ever used on my 32b!
This thing is perfect and runs like hell!
Please fix the bug with the weatheranimation on homescreen and the camera bug!
If that is fixed, this ROM is really perfect!
Thanks for it!
Great Job!!!
very very fast and stable
BRAVO !!
Massimo - Milan Italy
Is it possible to flash the latest update 1.1.2 from KingxKxKlair over this rom?
So the weatheranimation bug would be fixed!
Anybody has an idea if that works?
Wow, I just put this on my phone and it just zooms along. Really great. If anything changes I let you know but very happy so far.
Sorry if i missed this but which radio and spl should i use for this I have a mt3g [magic 32b]if some one could reply or point me in the right direction i would be much obliged thanks in advance,

I'm going to try it using Fireat's modified A2SD and see how it works.
OK So I got it all installed and man does it fly, however all of the Google Apps are missing. I was hoping that Fireat's modified version of A2SD would allow this ROM to work. I'm almost motivated enough by the speed of this ROM to figure out how to fix it, just not yet.
Should have clarified. In my previous post I was trying to get it to work without an EXT partition.
I'm trying it now with an EXT partition to see how it goes. Loccy, did you include any of the patches from the original or is this based off of the 1.0?
Added the EXT4 and I can confirm that this ROM is fast!
Yeah, this Rom is awesome fast!
The only bad thing is that the wheateranimations don't work on the homescreen!
May be someone can fix this bug?
I updated with kings last update to fix the wheatherbug, but I'm on kings kernel again when updating and it slows down this rom. So in this way it's not possible to fix the bug...damn. Anyone has another idea??
I want to use this fast rom, but I want to have the wheatheranimations on homescreen!
Google Login
Hello.
Love the ROMs speed but it won't let me log into my google account. Under the account option it just reads "google_login". On startup I had an app force close. It was the Google Partner Login Service or something similar. I think I'd be right in guessing that's where my problem lies. I can't into either the market or my Gmail account. A bit of a problem.
Any ideas?
P.S. Just seen the error again. "Google Partner Setup" force closes. Any workarounds or anyone having the same issue?
Does this Sense have the pinch feature to select the various panels?
Just flashed this and i will give you some feedback momentarily.
I just came from Kingklicks and it was nice so im excited for this one.
So far so good.
Camera/Camcorder doesn't work.
Full screen weather as has been mentioned.
Get more widgets doesn't seem to work under 'add htc widgets'
The ASTRO that is preinstalled is expired, need the updated one although you can update it yourself. Same goes for BACKup PRO
Also same problem as the old rom, cant delete sim sms and can't hide sim contacts in the contacts.
I think that about covers it.
I have no fc, everything seems to work pretty good and the ROM is pretty damn fast.
Great work, i agree this is way better then the BFS.
All around though good work from everyone.
Looking forward to updates!
And btw im running EXT4, 256swap

APN list shows nothing (unless your mobile operator is Chungwa in Taiwan), plz manually add your APN
* it could work under windows, but you must enable netshare in settings, and not in notification area. and you must disable netshare in settings if you want to use DiskDrive.
plz don't turn mobile network setting off when wifi is on. HTC's software will disable netsharing and uninstall the driver when you turn off mobile network.
** dev could set the button led timeout now.
just setprop sanpei.buttonlight.delay 20 (in sec) when phone is running, or set it in build.prop. plz report any issues.
*** I don't test the non-OC version myself yet, if you encountered any problem plz tell me, since it have lower frequency when you don't touch the phone.
and if the screen doesn't turn on during boot with OC version, plz press red button to close screen then press any other button to active the screen.
this issues happened once when first time I used this ROM after it was ported, though we don't have a kernel OCed that time. so I had said "first boot could be not very smooth" before. now I found that with higher CPU freq, it will happen more frequently.
so I won't support higher frequency at current. they are not so stable as I considered before. maybe you think that we could boot it with a lower frequency then use higher after boot. but I think if it have troubles when booting, it will have more troubles in heavily usage.
old changes:
some new commits to aosp kernel are included
qdsp driver changed to htc 2.6.29 version with some hacks
other little tweaks, not very important
for developers, many modules are included, you could check the modules folder. but I don't enable things like compcache by default. OC is not included, my phone is heated and I don't want to take a risk before I could have time to verify it carefully.
HTC Sync will work with with version 2.0.25, you can find it here (thank paultoan): http://www.htc.com/us/support/magic-rogers/downloads/ .
other pure ports:
you can find them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642125 .
legend port is a bit slow, but it have more features: the new way of select text、copy、wiki、translate and dictionary, etc.eris port may be faster then this one, and has been tested for a long time, but with old looks.
could someone test for us, if the new kernel binary and boot.img (in update.zip) could work with legend/eris ports? then we could use it to upgrade these ports too.

you should turn off bt after using it. a component of bt will prevent the phone going to sleep when bt is turned on. I will try to find a solution when I have time.
I don't want to use HTC's kernel. because they have some other bugs too. fixing bugs in HTC's kernel is less valuable than our current way. and you know, maybe we should try android 2.2 later.
so we must stay at aosp kernel and adapt it to run both AOSP and HTC's ROM. and I think these jobs could be done. all the problems are just time, time and time.
btw, it's not "my own kernel", it is the aosp kernel, I just did some repairing for our purpose
and to others:
sorry, I couldn't do works which would take a lot of time at current. but I won't stop.
sanpei, there's an ongoing effort on porting the 2.6.33 kernel to the new radio, with some work already done. Maybe you could give some help to the people doing that job

we thank you all for your effort Sanpei
but by saying "turn off bluetooth after using it" makes me quit of trying all those custom roms with this particular kernel
bluetooth, its a feature i use all the time, every day, so i personally quit flashing until problem is solved
again, thank you for your great work here
Re: [ROM][6.35] a very pure HERO 2.1, new look and eris ...
Sanpei, can we use the cpu clock on some later phase of your rom/kernel ?

.33 is a experimental project by Google, and our device won't get benefits from the increased digit. I will only work on kernels which will be chosen by Google and other manufacturers. and sadly, for some nonsense reason, I and some people couldn't work together.

i am really sorry for that. when I was fixing the battery drains, I don't know much about the right behaviors that bt features should have. so I just leave the prevent-sleep mechanism there because I think it is necessary.
and now I don't have enough time as before. but from you and others, I know what the right behaviors are. I will try to fix it in next release, for people who use bt heavily.

yes (we should make more things could be controlled by users in the long run), but not now.
we still have some issues that are important to other users, though personally, I don't use those features heavily.
my order:
1. lights in Sense ROM for other devices and battery drains when bt is on
2. android 2.2 or big improvements in android 2.2 (port them to daily usable ROM)
3. default USB netsharing, netsharing under windows and other features like this
4. other hardware supports and features like CPU freq control.
5. some hidden bugs in aosp sources or htc drivers we used (though they don't affect anything in most cases)
hope I could get enough time end of this month and next month, then I could repair/add one or two of them.
I only referenced the .33 kernel since that's what's used on cyanogen 5 series mod, and if it could be adapted to the new radio it would be a good way for us to have CM5 with the modifications cyanogen and otheres sometimes do to the kernel. Just my 2 cents

[KERNELS] the kernel corner

This is just a thread to offer a consolidated place for update notifications and such for alternative kernels. I will try to keep the most recent versions in this post but you should always check the end of the thread just to make sure.
Consider these experimental, use at your own risk, no ones responsible for anything, blah blah blah.
For best results, always use cyanogenmod roms
Most recent kernels:
pershoots Kernels

hey dumfuq, can you create a blog, I like following your work, would be nice to see it all elsewhere. Are you on github?
thanks, your work is appreciated
thx for posting this
Nice to see this here.. It would be nice to further explain, I searched else where but could not find....
I know
OC---IS OVER CLOCKED
UV---IS UNDER VOLTED
FP---????
Not to be rude but this is the third kernel thread on Page 1 of G1 Android Development. Hope a mod consolidates the three into one.
On another note, thanks for your kernels.

with oc825-cm-2.6.34-8t3 im not getting full multitasking, im able to multitask 3-4 apps but the kernel isnt utilizing all the swap before killing processes
I think it's rather nice to have an OC kernel that doesn't require swap though.
just updated with changes from cm-5.0.8-t4

They make it use all the swap, and people complain, they tone it down, and people complain.
Seriously though, adjust swappiness and perhaps use AutoKiller to set the settings LOWER than default. That should keep more apps around. Note that doing that may cause extreme slowness, so if it breaks, you get to keep both parts.
When I fool with those types of settings, I like to disable "set on boot" type options so that a reboot clears them if I screw something up. Then I can tune away till I get what I want, then set them on boot. Of course, just as I figure out how I like it, a new release comes out. owell, I do so love flashing my phone. I feel like I need a .sh file with "adb shell "reboot recovery"" in there on my computer's dock.

Any chance on someone uploading the oc xtra v4 with lower frequencies please.. I don't know how to change the userinit or resign =P thank you. Last time with test2 cyanogen, it booted up fine leaving the frequencies on my old settings but now test4 it just won't boot because frequencies got over written this time and set825 which I know why but I don't know how to resign and stuff..

FP = floating point optimized
32a test
I have no way to test this myself but...
It looks like it is fairly trivial to make a 32A port (since cyanogen has already patched the source). So here is a version of my latest that might work on 32A. If you try this, please let me know if it works or not.
Same as my others in that it requires you to set the scaling_max_freq in order to boot.

2.6.34 BFS kernel. I found it in the cyanogen forums.
http://www.4shared.com/file/BmZU6db6/BFS508t4.html
I went from 23 to 24 fps on neocore benchmark. Not really that much of an increase but 5% is 5%. I know some people hate BFS with a passion but I like the extra frame=p.
Link to OP
So I tried you kernel (was too lazy to make my own) and everything works (it boots) except the wifi, either due to the fact that I'm running 5.0.7 or the slight possibility that you put the wrong kernel module for wifi because 32A and 32B don't use the same one, will compile my own to see if it's just the kernel module...

Why do people dislike BFS? I don't really see much of a reason for the hate (but I also don't really know the difference)

[ROM][HTC G1/Dream 32B/32A] Android 2.2.2 AOSP R6 (wifi Fixed!) [8/3/11]

DEAD
I will try it today and let you know
thank you for the ROM
Sorry for slow download guys! When I finish my build, I upload to ge.tt which allows end users to instantly download while I upload. R3 is also broken -_- ; will upload fixed again
Please stick with r2 atm until r4 is done uploading.
Why the mandatory 96MB Swap and 512MB Ext4?
Wow...this rom is so horribly slow. Amazing how Roms can still get worse.
Slow UI, no improvements over 2.2.1, Market doesn't download anything. No Superuser installed. No busybox installed either. Commands such as a simple "cp" doesn't work.
Horrible.
Honestly with EzTerry's odex'd Asop and Richies F4T 182 de-odex asop build you are a long long long way off lads, nice effort but there is a lot better available already. And as for it being Danger SPL or custom mtd patch needed for what 90% of people are using 2708 with 14mb extra ram then this is a massive home goal.
Sorry just speaking the truth.
No, thats allright, I haven't applied much stuff to it yet.. I just uploaded it the day I compiled.
i'm impressed, just needs a little work. Also, those figures you have for free ram is with or without swap??
do you include a 2708 kernel? is that the default one? that could be a little clearer.
Sorry for the bugs, it is my first native phone rom.. Those figures are for free ram (physical) with the stock system without google apps with 2708 kernel. I did not include 2708 kernel yet but I will very soon! With the google apps and without the 2708 spl/radio, i got around 30 mb of free ram.
The mandatory ext4 partition and swap is for the R5 (uploading now) with a2sd but su still does not want to work. The "su" file was not included in the aosp compile for some reason and it messes everything up..
I like the fact you have changed the OP now about it being fast or faster
Look forward to see where you go with this fella, maybe a look at EzTerry's Froyo Parts.apk if it can help you out. I ported it with Terry's permission to F4T 182 and may be a useful additional update for your rom in the future to add additional functionality.

Yeah sorry I overestimated
35 MB of free physical ram with market, pinyin IME, and google messaging running DangerSPL and stock radio, no 2708.
Well, I'm curious to see Froyo 2.2.2 on my G1 anyway. I have it on my TP2 and the major difference I noticed is that 2.2.1 doesn't have wifi tethering in its Wireless and Networking settings but 2.2.2 does. (Not really a big deal I suppose, since I already have a tethering app.)
I'm kinda curious about why Lazlo or the others haven't merged 2.2.2 yet.

Simple answer - Go ask them
My guess is nothing more than a reduction in memory footprint??? And Wireless tethering is so easy using the google code website (just for those that don't know) http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ last time I remember wireless tether included in a rom was back in Donut days.

i was using an adblocking hosts file. who the hell doesn't? especially on xda... LOL i guess some people like ads
Ok, R5_Stable released. It is COMPLETELY STABLE with 97% bugs fixed. The UI is smooth and fast after all dalvik-cache has caught up on first boot. I have already messed with odexing and it works but will be in next release(s) because I still like my themes!
Note:
-DO NOT use QuickBoot application as it shuts down android incorrect (at least on this build), it works, but after you press "reboot" and android loads, up, android immediately crashes, and then reboots again and works fine..
-Now includes Live Wallpapers
-Launcher pro is default launcher
-seperate google apps for legal reasons (yeah again)
-On first boot, please wait until dalvik-cache has caught up (about 2 min) or until the phone has received radio signal for rom to run at full speed
-Pershoots .11 kernel added now
- 30+ MB of free physical ram with danger spl!! 60+ with 2708+ radio/spl/kernel.
-Requires Danger SPL now
- battery life is good but does not last 2 days
- setCPU recommended with ondemand at 122mhz-614mhz s (lower if you want to save battery but still runs fine @ 528mhz)
- usb tethering does not work unfortunately (the one built into rom)

Fella just because you use a host file please don't blame the links or assume no-one else is using them when links work for them. Not my fault you blindly use the host file and have no clue of how to configure it to allow certain things. The fault is the user because a computer works on a simply principle of it can only do what YOU tell it too.
smooth but on the mytouch wen using any other kernel it breaks wifi and the stock kernel doesnt support the new radio
