Messaging problem - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Can anybody point me to a thread or help me with this problem?
Sometimes when I receive a text message my messaging app will repeatedly force close until I fix permissions with rom manager and reboot my phone. My phone is rooted and I'm running cognition 2.1.7 with unhelpfuls kernel 1.7
If I'm in the wrong section sorry, I'm new and wasn't sure where to go, thanks for any help guys

[Q] xda app force close

Is anyone else having issues with the xda app force closing? it just started today as did my scorecenter app not being able to connect to the internet. I have not done anything lately except for Google maps updating.
any ideas why or any solutions?
I fc on searches Since I upgraded the app today.
My XDA app fc's every time I do a search or try to view a post. It was working all morning then all of a sudden it force closed. I'm running SR'S sense 3.1rc.
Does anyone know where I can find the old xda app to use until the new gets updated?
EDIT: I just tried viewing posts without signing in and it worked; no fc. Maybe the app developers can look into that aspect.

I restored a system backup from a few days ago and then updated XDA again and everything seems to be working now. Time will tell.

I cleared cache and data.. Still FC'd on search.
Uninstalled/reinstalled still FCs.
If you guys have ROM Manager, try fixing permissions. That does the trick for me.

Here you go, Hope this helps
you can also use SGS tools samsung galaxy Tab email.apk replacement. it works too.
For those of you who want to change your email app or have already done so and are getting force closes. You need to go into TiBu and wipe data for email and email account info, then uninstall whatever email you have or is not working, reboot phone (this will essentially erase any evidence of an email app) then install the email you want to use whether it be the Infuse stock email, G Tab email or a captivate email per say.....i myself am using the email app from Mikeymike01's Serendipty rom, which is the best in my opinion...

What do you mean by "install"? I don't think you can sideload install this app. It would have to be a push to /system/app or a manual copy/paste to /system/app using a root file explorer.
Does anyone have the white letters on black background email.apk for gb? My stock froyo had it but every gb rom I've flashed or checked system apps has a white background for the email apk. Was it only for froyo?

VZ wireless visual VM problem?

Hi guys, i am running GC 1.8.1 and am.not able to access my visual voice mail app. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a fix out there like the one used for the My Verizon?

Glad to hear it's behaving for you now. I had similar issues initially with Gummy (before he added VVM to the toolbox).
That said, you should definitely check out using GoogleVoice as an alternative to VVM. It has all the same features and then some... and it's free
I tried and would prefer to use Google voice but when i tried to set it up it said the network didn't support it?

The is the zip to install the vvm app. Just flash thru cwm recovery and reboot and the app will be there.
I just keep the file on my sd card and every time I flash a new rom I flash this also if it doesn't include it in the ROM. It has worked every time (humble, Gummy, eclipse 1.1 and 1.2)
I hope this helps
Worked like a charm once I found it in root explorer. Thanks so much!!

I've got a similar VVM issue. I've been receiving texts from 9008002021 every time any voicemail activity occurs, the text is appropriately formatted as a message and just lets me know how many new VMs I have, and whenever there's activity. Originally VVM wasn't properly DLing/playing messages, but I installed the VVM.zip from this thread and then my phone DL'd/played the messages properly, but I'm not getting notifications from the VVM app, I'm getting the SMS messages instead. Anyone know a fix to receive the notifications from the VVM service/app and not through SMS? I assume this a common question, but I tried googling, and failed miserably to find a solution. Perhaps my Internet-fu is weak today.
Oh, about the phone. Rooted, using imnuts' PBJT kernel from late June (20th?), that's it.

[Q] [SOLVED] Facebook not recognizing incoming phone calls

I just flashed Valhalla Black 1.6 rc and LOVE IT. The only issue that I am having seems to be related to the phone state not being recognized. The experince is when Facebook is open and a phone call comes in, the phone does not ring, no indicator or missed call.
At all other times phone state seems to work normally. I have removed and reinstalled Facebook from the market with no change in behavior. When I look at the permissions of the Facebook app, it states access to phone state.
Not sure what to do.
This is my wifes phone and like I said LOVE the Rom.
T-Mobile Galaxy S 4g Rooted running Valhalla Black 1.6
Thank You
Just try this two steps
1. Check the toggles for the notification bar. You can scroll it, maybe its on silent.
2. Maybe that phone number that is calling you is in a "automatic reject" call.

That was the second thing that I did, after uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Do you know if there is a way to go into the APK and validate that phone state has the proper permissions to detect an incoming call?
thats because the sns for facebook is removed from the rom

you could pull the 2 sns apk files out of another rom and stick them in there and that will re enable facebooks phone book.. its just bloat so it was removed

My other question is about this issue. I have a facinate running a Kang CM7 Rom and I don't have the sns packages installed and am not having this issue. Just confunsed as to what is going on.
Thank You for the help
RESOLVED: Phone workes now
Thank You Raver, I really appreciate the help. I took the two SNS Apk's from a different Rom and overwrote the SNS files in the System \ apps folder.
Rebooted and now when Facebook is open and a call comes in the phone app opens.
Thank You

[Q] MMS pics only stay on screen for 5 seconds and then the screen goes blank SOLVED!

I have searched and didn't see this anywhere.
MMS pics only stay on screen for 5 seconds and then the screen goes blank. I just flashed to 2.3.6 and this started happening. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a fix out there? It is annoying.
Hi Tytan0007. We have a Q & A section for questions.
What 2.3.6 did you flash? Stock? Vahlalla Black?

I assume you adjusted the "Screen timeout' in settings already? If so, did you do a factory wipe and fresh install of the stock ROM?
I did adjust it. The whole screen doesnt go dark....just the picture after viewing it for 5.secs...I wiped everything when I flashed.

I haven't been on stock or used stock messaging in a long time. You could try a third party sms/mms app like GoSMS Pro - which is what I use - to start. You may try a reflashing the ROM with a factory reset. You can try flashing Raver's Valhalla Black.
Or you can hang on and see if somebody else steps in to help

I would try this. If your mms/sms works using GOsms then it would suggest the stock app is having a issue. I seen something similar on another phone. The user couldnt get sms/mms until he installed GOsms. Then mysteriously the stock app started to work.
Not a fan of third part msging for privavy reasons so I will not be downloading any 3rd party. Maybe a refresh will work. Thanks for your help.

I suggest this only because it could jumpstart the stock app. The person I referenced went three months without mms/sms through several updates.
But let me get this straight..you will install a custom rom but third party messaging app is a nogo. Ok.
I installed stock 2.3.6...nothing custom on it. However, I did try handscent and although it did not fix the stock app I like how it works so I guess I threw my privacy thing out the window there. Thanks for the help anyway!

If you like Handscent... give goSMSPro a run. I have tried both and liked the latter much more.

So you are able to view the messages longer than the original 5 seconds?
And I guess I missed you said you were on the stock 2.3.6, my bad.
I understand the concern for privacy. But I think with the thousands of users of most sms apps at some point somebody would have found a security flaw in them. So you should be pretty safe.
One more thing if you really want to use the stock one. Redownload the stock rom unzip it and find the stock messaging apk. You can then push it to your phone via adb or a file manager that has root privileges.

You're welcome. You can apply themes to gosms as well.
Stock messaging is separate from the mms. If gosms is working and you like it, it beats the hell out of stock.
