Need a recovery for HTC bee wildfire cdma. - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Can any one come up with a recovery for the HTC wildfire bee cdma NOT the HTC wildfire buzz gsm. I have rooted the bee but can't find a recovery for it. I was told that we need a kernel source. I have tried other recoverys alot with no luck. I have rom manger and there are different recoverys and went through alot of them even the alternative recoverys. This phone is on alltel and is going to be released January 28th for version.

Bump. Been looking for a way to get my phone fully rooted and start throwing roms on it.

Have you guys gotten past the nandlock? You may have temporary root, but you probably will not have a permanant root (as the nandlock needs to be removed first).
If you have, I can try to get CWM to compile. I don't think we need a kernel, it uses a dumbed down version of the base kernel, with binary drivers.

Not sure I did get it rooted but can't find a recovery for it and I'm afraid to do any thing without being able to make a backup. This is on the bee wildfire cdma not the buzz wildfire GSM.
I have tryed to get xda to start a thread for the bee it comes out for version 1/28/11 came out for alltel oct29. Alot of people think they have the buzz to find out they have the bee like I did after I got it rooted. I used unrevoked root for the buzz it worked for the bee.
I have tryed all kinds of recoverys with no luck.

The problem for recoveries are that they are device-specific. Say you have a recovery for the hero-cdma. You try and flash that to your bee/wildfire-cdma. The recovery fails to boot because A) wrong kernel and B) wrong device drivers.
Compiling a clockwork mod recovery for a new phone is fairly trivial. But if the phone is nandlocked, you have to bypass that nandlock beforehand. I can probably do it, but I'd need a dump of the phones hboot (to dissassemble and reverse-engineer
I'm fairly certain the phone is nandlocked (if you can, grab z4root and use the temp root exploit, remount /system rw, and do 'mkdir /system/test', it should fail. if it succeeds, your device isn't nandlocked). I have a bee, just have not had a chance to get adb running to test this.

Can I use terminal and do
su enter
remount/system rw. enter
mkdir/system/test. enter
Would this work. I used the buzz root method and tried to update the bee with the buzz ruu 2.2 update. When it got done it had an error and I unplugged the phone from the PC with out stopping or ending any thing and the new market stuck. So the phone has the new market now.

when did you get the 2.2 update the twe htc bee phones we have are still 2.1 we are on alltel. and where did you find clockwork recovery for the bee at if you dont mind me asking.

theres a kernal on the htc developer page thats supposed to work with it but i have alltel on it to and there was a thread somewhere online that a guy used clockwork mod flashed for the htc aira and he said he was able to change the rom but i cant even find a rom for the bee anywhere let alone a 2.2 update for alltel for that matter so im like really lost on this phone

i will tyy the clockwork mod for the aira and see if i can get a recovery. if we dont have a recovery to make a back up theres not much we can do. we need a way to restore a rom from recovery if things go wrong. i will look into it to night. i have two htc bee and need to get some thing going.

Let us know how it went. I too have a bee.

i have not tried to get it soff. was hopping to find a recovery to make a backup in case any thing goes wrong. but i will be able to do more with them at the end of the month. if not sooner.

I guess the next step would be to contact clockwork and see what they can do.

It would be nice if unrevoked would do it I did my uncle's desire and it worked great. and I miss carebears.

unrEVOked 3.0

I haven't seen a thread about this, and it looks like this method is fairly fresh. I figured I'd give it a try...and it doesn't seem to work.
It gets hung up on the "flashing recovery image" part.
**Edit**
You have to remove HTC Sync AND the drivers that come with it. When I first tried this, I just installed the USB drivers that unrEVOked came. Looks like you have to totally removed anything from HTC before this can work.
And yes, it does work.
Same thing happens to me.
I have the latest software from Sprint. I don't know if this not working has anything to do with me trying to run unrevoked2 previously.
Not sure...I would uninstall any software from Sprint and HTC before you run this.
That may help.
Great job unrEVOked team. I waited to root my phone again until you guys figured it out again.
What does it do...?
can somebody give a detailed step by step on how to use this unrevoked 3?
and will it leave us having the new 1.47 radio and wifi update?
I asked this on another forum... but why not here?
Does this unrevoked do a full root, where it wipes all your data?
After seeing their one patch potentially ruin people's 4G for good, I've decided not to try their methods anymore. Hopefully 3.0 helps some people.
I like the Simple Root method and Whitslack's method.
So it seems like it doesn't wipe your data... anyone tried this and can confirm?
it doesn't wipe your data i just rooted mine in 3 minutes

I just want to clarify that unrEVOked is not responsible for that. There was a problem with the OTA update itself that broke 4G for some people, which HTC is and was responsible for. The only thing unrEVOked did was distribute said OTA update in pre-rooted form.
So after you run this, will it be possible to unlock nand protection to achieve a full root?
Ah ok uninstalling HTC Sync and its driver did the trick. I'm now rooted for the first time! w00t!
android-wifi-tether works great too!

That's 100% not true. The borking of the 4g was due to the way that the unrEVOked method wrote the wimax image to the wimax partition. This wasn't unique to the unrEVOked method, but it was something that should likely have been tested before release.

No, it doesn't wipe ANY of your data. After I performed it, all of my apps and files were still 100% intact.

I believe it does. My software version didn't change afterwards.
To be frank, I'm not really sure how exactly this works. I know it changes your recovery, but other than that...I have no clue.
Still, it's a way of a achieving root that I'm fairly confident most users can pull off.
Remember: YOU MUST REMOVE HTC SYNC, AND ANY HTC/SPRINT DRIVERS
Otherwise...it gets hung up during the process.
Yeah whoops...
Make sure you uninstall HTC Sync AND HTC Drivers... if you have Windows 7, just search, from the launcher thing, "htc un--" and it'll fill in the rest.
Edit: Trying it for the second time, it gets stuck at "Waiting for device..." and it's connected.
Edit 2: DON'T uninstall the extra htc drivers... I don't know, but it's not recognizing my phone now, zzz.
So I'm confused a little bit. With unrevoked 3 you can flash a recovery image and flash a custom ROM now?

On their site they say: unrevoked3 will replace the stock Android recovery with a custom one, which adds many features including “nandroid” backups, the ability to use custom ROMs, and a greater amount of flexibility and customization of your Android phone.
So I'm guessing I could finally try out some of those ROM's I seeing floating around here. All I'm really after is a fully functional version of Froyo for the Evo, but I'm not sure if that's out yet...

Nothing working 100% yet, but DamageControl & Cyanogen are the two closest i think ( hope to see a 100%-working FroYo within the next few days ).

Super Easy Way to Root Sprint .6 Release (might work for other carriers also)
Download the app from this post (or the one attached here) to your phone and install with Astro or the like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598
Run app, select appropriate version, hit root. Wait ~30 sec, see root confirmation. You are now rooted!!!!
Need a super easy way to get recovery image installed? Download ROM Manager (free) and install the ClockworkMod Recovery. You can now install roms with either ROM manager or thru recovery. You can even flash alternate recovery (RA 1.6.2) from rom manager.
This is stupid easy!!!!
I just did these exact steps about 10 min ago and it worked flawlessly. No messing with RUUs.
Not sure if boot-patched.zip should be flashed afterwards like in the original 2.1 root. Someone else please chime in on this.
NEW VERSION ADDED
confirmed this works.
question...
I've rooted my Evo , but now tryin to help a buddy root his hero. New to this. I'm curious about some specifics of this. At what point can you nand backup and wipe? As I've noticed most peoples problems rooting come from not wiping data, dalvik cache, and factory reset.
Also, you need to do the 2.1 update before doin this, does it matter? My buddys hero is still on 1.5. Any extra info, specifics, technical info much appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Looks great, and thank you.

Yes you would have to update to 2.1 for this to work, but since your 1.5 why not just root from there?

The app has a 1.5 setting (I HAVE NOT TESTED THIS), but I would recommend doing the 2.1 update first as you will get a newer radio etc....
The point where you do the nandroid backup and wipe is after you install a recovery image. Once you have recovery image installed, you boot into recovery (all stuff you can do from rom manager) and then you do it from there.

Hmmm. Ok. I just started lookin into this for him last night. This appears to be the easiest root method I've ever seen. Is there a root method or exploit for 1.5 that's as easy as this? Hard to imagine so. I've seen a 9 step root from 1.5 so far , but if this works from 2.1, it seems it'd be easier to update to 2.1, then do this.
This provides full root, recovery, and nand unlock, though, huh?
IDK if there's some other method that you know of that's easy, AND reliable, it'd be much appreciated. Don't wanna jack up my buddys phone. I'd never live it down.
Thanks though.
And @ swapped, thanks, I missed your reply before I posted this.

anyone else confirm?

In case people didn't know the Universal 1-Click root works for the CDMA Hero even if it's running the latest RUU. I managed to root and install a custom recovery and custom overclocked kernel in about 15 minutes after flashing the RUU strictly "over the air" using no terminal commands.
Step 1: Download UniversalAndroot_1.6.1.apk from here
Step 2: Download a filemanager from market. Explorer works fine.
Step 3: Open the filemanager on your phone and navigate to where you downloaded UniversalAndroot_1.6.1.apk
Step 4: Install UniversalAndroot_1.6.1.apk through the filemanager (if you get errors about Unknown sources then go into settings > applications and make sure Unknown sources is checked)
Step 5: Open Universal Androot and click root
This will root your phone and install the latest Superuser.apk
Step 6: Download RomManager from the Market. Allow it su permissions and either install ClockworkMod Recovery or Amon_RA recovery.
Step 7: Download whatever Roms you want and flash away
If this has been discussed somewhere else I'll take it down. Hope this helps people with brand new Hero looking for a quick root with no terminal commands required.
Nice this should be a sticky.
Right on that's awesome! I agree definitely needs too be a sticky
ok how did u confirm it was rooted it said it was rooted but no root apps would work

Incredible-S-Inc Alpha Rom Issue running on Dinc

I downloaded and installed the Incredible S Beta rom that is listed somewhere on this site for the Incredible. My issue is I want to revert to another ROM, HOWEVER, now my Superuser keeps force closing and will not allow ROM Manger to flash. I try to reboot in HBoot and ONLY get the start-up screen when doing Vol- and Power. Any suggestions on how to get into Hboot or another way to flash a different ROM when SuperUser will NOT allow permissions or Rom Manger wont reboot into Recovery (because superuser forecloses and wont let me flash Rom Manager
BTW-The Incredible S Rom works great...just NO pic/video (As it states in the description.)
Editing to take away some of the clutter (my clutter)
I am not sure what happened. As stated above once the ROM (which is great!) was installed, Rom Manager was no longer granted superuser access (was trying to reboot into recovery via Rom Manager). It wiped the Recovery Version from the phone and would not let me flash a new recovery. Everything else seemed to work fine (superuser permissions, ie. SetPC, etc.)
I tried plugging the phone in and reflashing Unrevoked directly to the phone. Unrevoked stated the root access was denied and asked if I had a "newer firmware".
I also tried uninstalling superuser (to only reinstall and see if it fixed the issue), however, Superuser was included in the ROM and would not let me uninstall.
The only way I was able to get back into Recovery was to re-run Unrevoked Flash and UNPLUG the phone when Unrevoked managed (somehow) to get the phone into bootloader. From there Clockwork ran fine.
Installed a different ROM and all is good.
The only thing I can think of is: In some post regarding the Incredible S being not branded to a certain carrier. When the ROM was installed, it showed "EVDO" in the notification bar (which leads me to believe it is for Sprint), I am not sure how THAT would affect anything being on a Verizon phone...again..only thing I can think of.
Just reboot the phone directly into recovery.

It wont let me. I dont think...I tried the Vol-+power...nothing..just reboots. Tried booting into recovery via Rom Manager, but since superuser no longer is granting persmission it wont even do that...is there another way to flash a different ROM?
I just tried reflashing Unrevoked directly to it...it failed to access boot, something about the firmware being too new...???

Oh, HTC Incredible.
I went into Rom Manager (and against ALL I have read) am trying to instal and reboot using Rom Manager...instead of going into recovery mode...phone is just sitting here "thinking" right now...nothing YET about being denied root access...fingers crossed...
OK, not sure this was SMART...Hooked phone back up to PC, ran Unrevoked flash kit again...unplugged phone once it came up in recovery...have access NOW to CLockwork...wiped data..installing different ROM as I type...hopefully this will work..
YAY...close call...sorry to waste everyones time..lol. So..If your installing the INcredible S Rom onto your incrediable..I have learned two things...1.) Unrevoked failed to push recovery due to the firmware...2.) you may lose superuser ability....

rooting!

just installed gingerbread on my htc desire hd. and now my root has gone. i know VISIONary wont work on this yet so is there any other way to gain root access??
Hard to say. Sometimes official updates are designed by the carrier along with the manufacturer to disable any root access. If it was an update that required a wipe first, then definitely root will be lost.
Sometimes it's better to find a ROM that has a great reputation for frequent updates and stick with them, however, if you've lost root thanks to the latest update then you may be waiting a while for someone to figure out how to root this latest update to your phone unless you made sure to get something on there like RA that will let you wipe the phone and restore from a previous nandroid backup.
Gingerbreak...
hey could u please explain to me how u installed the gingerbread on ur htc desire hd...i have an unrooted one so idk if its possible to install the new gingerbread RUU but my downgrading process keeps failing (CID Error). I've got my phone running on 1.84.720.3...if you could please help me I would really appreciate it.
However, I've read around the forum and people are claiming that you can reroot your phone with Gingerbreak. Im not sure exactly how..im really new to this but im sure you can find out how to use gingerbreak by searching for it...

Anyway, can someone PM me or reply to this? I need something quick and easy.
Starting from Rooting and finishishing at CM install.
My current device is an LG Phoenix, so... Big Upgrade!

I would start with this thread:

It will unlock your bootloader, add CWM, and root your (arriving) phone (in that order). If there are any dead links, I should be able to help out (except for the drivers - you can either try ADBSetup or use Linux to unlock the bootloader).
I would skip Juopunutbear unless you are planning to flash every other week . I did it, it's no big deal, but the best I got out of S-OFF was to change the start-up logo (before the bootanimation).
Hope this gives an idea.

So what if I don't have Admin privileges on a computer? Will Fastboot and ADB still work? I don't know about the drivers...
And I had the original myTouch 3G and I installed the Visionary (the one with the yellow triangle with the lightning bolt hitting a guy) APK file. I was able to flash CWM Recovery after Visionary rooted the device. Is it possible to flash ROMS using CWM instead of unlocking the bootloader?

Probably not. I haven't seen a situation where drivers can install without admin priv.

That would be gaining root through an exploit. If I recall correctly, all of those have been sealed in future OTA's. The only way that makes sense (that is, not trying every rooting package out there) is to unlock the bootloader first. It's really not that bad.
Confusion

The MT4GS I'm getting is running Gingerbread. If I use GingerBreak APK to root the phone and install CWM, can I still back up the stock OS? And for future reference, how would I keep the baseband once I'm ready to flash ROMs? Like the IMEI and stuff like that?
And the guide that you directed me towards is slightly complicated.
Is there an APK that can turn S-Off? if so, how reliable is it?
And for future reference (I like saying that) the ETA for device delivery is Wednesday on the East Coast of the United States.

Getting out of my comfort zone here, but that should be possible. CWM will be able to back up system and boot, effectively the stock OS.
Haven't heard of people losing their IMEI's with this phone, nor of any backup to protect it, so that should be fine.
When I went through it, I found the guide a bit daunting as well, but you get used to it (alternatively there is below, which I never used).
There is no APK to S-Off (too complicated for a user app, and your phone would be upside down half the time thus making the screen unreadable), but there is this that can speed up the process:

This can root as well. It's no APK, but should get the job done.

*cringes* Windows admin priiivveellleges.....?
And can we just talk about this through PM? the XDA site is destroying my data. The app is better.
s-off has gotten easier. juopunutbear (or however you spell it) is no longer needed. rumrunner s-off is by far easier to use. this is what I used combined with the windroid program to root.
I bought one from a liquidator online. Brand new, out of the box, with the plastic still on the screen and stuff. Unmarked battery, though. Charges a bit too fast. Was labelled as "refurbished" but came in the original manufacturer box with original PC sync cable and chager. I found a way to root the stock ROM without S-OFF, just with CWM. All I had t do was flash a 2.3.6 ZIP that had the SU binary and the .apk file for the Samsung Galaxy Admire. It works on the really stupid Huawei model, too. Which, I installed the Raspberry Pi variation of SliTaz on it, and it works great! But as soon as I came back to my apartment from work I unlocked the bootloader(HTC model), installed CWM, flashed the ZIP fro 1.4 DS, and then did a backup of my old non-functional broken peice of shi...Yeah, and then then flashed the boot image through fastboot, and then restored my backup. My point is, though, my Minecraft PE and my Ravensword 2 installations diappeared after restoring the backup. Any ideas of why this happened?
