psfreedom on the new kernel [RESOLVED] - HTC Aria Android Development

is this a thing? does anyone still care? =D
i found this thread discussing the topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842358
which eventually points to this
http://www.klutsh.com/2010/12/30/htc-legend-mytouch-3g-slide/
i mean, sounds like a good plan to me. i'd like to try the jailbreak but i'm absolutely not downgrading my phone, even if i could find an old rom
i'd try to do it myself, but i'd need pretty straight forward direction

hmm, maybe i'm out of my league xD
i'm using liberated froyo fr008 and the default kernel. can i flash an old kernel?
i mean, without effecting the current rom/system?
anyway, i like liberated but i'ma check out cyanogen now and see what its like =)

I believe the default kernel for liberated let's you overclock and keep your trackball wake and WiFi hotspot also. Previous kernels you would lose all that. Maybe I'm wrong?

lol just kidding, im pretty sure i know what you meant.
is there some sort of problem flashing directing from the psfreedom enabled kernel back to your preferred one? Does that break wifi and 4g or something? If so then I understand the middle step of flashing the psfreedom disable file, but if not it seems like a useless extra step.

It brakes 4G & WIFI with psfreedom from what i know
sent from htc evo 4g
a little unnecessary....
you dont have to use the disable and then flash the kernel. If you are using a rom that doesnt have a dedicated disable.zip made for it (Fresh and Baked Snack have one) then all you do is need to flash the kernel you want of top. This is how I've did it since day one without any issues or lost data of anything. I usually do a Dalvik/cache wipe before flashing the kernel but im not certain that its necessary. Im glad some one made a thread to at least let people know that a nandroid backup isnt needed, cause those take forever...
where can i find the fresh dedicated disable hack, thanks!

Its somewhere in the original Psfreedom for evo thread. start and the back and work your way forward and you'll find it.
all this does is avoid the nand restore by flashing back your original kernal. The reason i didn't include this in my thread was because everyone has their own kernal. Sure many use the same but to make it a one step no mess up without people who can't read posting OMG OMG, just nand restore...done. But ya, i chose not to include a "disable" which is essentially a reverting of the kernal.
Hey theres a PSFreedom recovery now! Hopefully well get one for the EVO 4G like this one...

so when u jailbreak the ps3 with the evo. do u need to plug it in again when u turn off the ps3. does it require the phone everytime to see the install package files icon?

Yep. Every time. Small price to pay though if you ask me. Ive backed up 2 games so far and they work flawlessly. No glitches, lag, nothing. I'll plug my evo in a hundred times for that.

I meant do i have to redo the whole re flashing of the zips. Because i dont mind pluging the phone into the ps3 every time. but reflashing the phone is the tidiest part.
U have to flash the psfreedom kernel every time.

i guess thats the price we have to pay. hopefully in the near future someone will come up with an app. on and off switch for jailbreak. or maybe do a dual boot switching kernels . i can dream

Go to clockwork recovery and wipe and format everything except sdcard.

If you actually complete a GSM port of THIS! Wow that'll be amazing. I am curious though, since the mods frown on "coming soon" threads, what is your definition of "soon". I might actually enjoy sense if it was GB fast. Thanks for working on this! I know *some* devs have said they want this, but I don't know if you've asked them for help/teamwork. Not a bad idea, there's only a few devs left anyway, send some PMs maybe you will find some nice help

Actually im going to but the link up by today for people to test out. My phone is a jerk though and for every sense rom that isnt eclair only goes to htc boot screen and stays there (probably because of my ext3 partition or might be because im s-on) but im sure it will work for others and hopefully I will fix my Hero's problem.
Hello,
So are we talking this evening yet? It has been a long time since I was willing to drive sense! Thumbs up all the way...

Hey if you're gonna port GSM roms it takes kernel work, why on gods green earth are you s-ON !?!?!?
EDIT: also, if I read that correctly, you are not able to boot? I hope I misunderstood you...........
EDIT 2: I now reread your posts, and remembered your earlier thread posts today "I don't know how to port a GSM rom" and your last post in that thread was about 2pm, this OP at about 5:30. I sincerely want you to drop this ROM, but I now doubt you ported a GSM rom in a few hours. I really hope my suspicions are wrong, but if you don't post a bootable ROM, well.............................
I need to flash something. This may hold back the shakes & the slobbering tonight.

based SOLELY on this post, I will not flash whatever you put up - unless of course others do and it works - but it won't I'm sure. You don't flip a frakking switch to go "off" And you just confirmed you have a zip that will do nothing. Booting up a ROM has NOTHING to do with the security state of your bootloader. Man this kinda reminds me of "webOS on heroC"......... Prove me wrong, please.

Dude calm down. And .zip does install and you can boot what im saying though that you cant seem to understand is that NO SENSE ROMS AFTER ECLAIR BOOT UP FOR ME. For me is the key word but for YOU (and others) its different. I had the same thing happen to me to with PMGRANDS Espresso rom and that boots up for others.

Well, again, proof? I have a few thoughts that may help you. First, get s-off. Then, these froyo and GB sense ROMs are HUGE and may actually need custom MTD partitions for a larger /system (see firerats). Third, booting a beast that big will take a WHILE. Still, proove me wrong.

I would recommend the eng-spl method, as it allows fastboot commands such as "fastboot erase system -w" which may help you flash these things after a clean wipe. How big is the ROM.zip ? That should tell you how large your system partition needs to be. I think the stock system partition size is 160mb. I remember in the beginning of the froyosense port it needed to be around 200 or so.....

ok..i'm not familiar with task29 but a quick romp through google gives me what I think could be a general idea. basically a memory wiper of sorts? I think you're looking for clockworkMod Recovery friend. head over to the android dev section and do a search to find what you need. I hope this helps.

It's not. Task29 is erasing everything. Then reconfigure/reparytition NAND then that's the time for CWM.

I believe partitions are baked into either the recovery or hboot partition. To rearrange or resize partitions will require a flash of one of those... never messed with it too much with my G1 but there was quite a bit of development in this area. Not sure if its the same on other phones.

Yeah. But at least, we know that when flashing a new rom, there would be no left overs.

That sounds like the kind of thing you would need ADB for. Maybe NVFlash.

I guess. Because if we can have programs like the Task29, we can assure that there will be no leftovers from previously flashed rom. Eventually, lesser issues when flashing new roms.

[SOLVED]How do I update my CWM to the newer version?

How exactly does one upgrade the CWM from 3.1.0.1 to 4.x.x.x?
I am trying to install Petes 2.3.5 and I keep getting an error Status 7, I read in that thread that I would need to update my CWM to the newer version. I do the install of CWM from the app, but its the same version. I even downloaded the image file from the CWM website (not that I would know how to install that anyway) but that version is 3.1.0.1 as well. I am kind of at a lost here. Any tips would be highlly appreciated.
1) Download the image file (4.0.0.2 I'm assuming you want, it's in the dev section).
2) Boot your phone to the bootloader
3) fastboot flash recovery imagename.img

I appreciate the quick response, but I am a noob, just now getting comfortable with ROMs and what not. Is there a way you can give me a better step by step guide, or point me to a thread that already has one (Im sure there is one, although I searched already to come up empty handed). Thanks so much.
Those pretty much ARE the steps. You need a very basic knowledge on how to use adb (to reboot into bootloader, its the easiest way) and having a general understanding of how to use DOS commands on a PC helps too. I would reccomend reading this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078213
PM me if you need more help, I might be able to just take care of it for you remotely... it just might be easier then trying to explain it in every detailed step

Rooting on 2.3 using GingerBreak?

Does anyone know if this is possible? It's supposed to be as simple as one click and it roots the phone (which is what I wanna do.. keep it easy). For some reason, it was taking a while and it didn't work. I'm just guessing, but is it possible it might not work since 2.3 is relatively new? If that's the case, do I gotta go back to 2.2 for this to work or something like that? Or is there another app I can use that'll work just as easy on 2.3?
Any response is appreciated.
Thanks.

no you can not root 2.3.3 at all. you will need to put recovery on and flash a prerooted rom from the development section. all instructions are there.
