hi, im looking for a blackberry function in my android.
the ability to keep a set amount of days of sms messages.
email is linked to gmail, and only the inbox is synced, so that keeps that synced.
but i dont need to see over 1000 sms to my lass, nor do i wish to delete the entire thread, nor do i have the time / patience to delete the messages separately.
i dont care about backing them up, i just want the old ones to be gone!
function / app / hack?
thanks!
anyone? at all?
also appened to me

Hi
I have an xda 2.
I recently carried out a hard reset to clean up my xda 2.
Unfortunately when I tried restoring my back up (from active sync) there appears 2 be a problem with old sms messages.
I had created a number of sub-folders where I had moved my old messages.
I can see the old sms messages in the folder but I can not open, read or forward them. There are no problems with new sms messages.
Has anyone come acrosss this before and can you advise me on how to retrieve these please?
Thanks.
Salim
....No response...does noboby love me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I've had a look through the forums and have foubd similarish problems but nothing seems to help
This is wht I have done so far
1. Downloaded mobile vault to interrogate my back up - but this has proved futile as when I go to where I believe the sms messages are the ones I want are blank (even though I can see them in the sms folder but not expand them).
2. I downloaded Jeye Mobile companion and Jeyo Outlook extender
JMC did not help much
Jeyo Outlook Extender will let me read the SMS messages that are in my inbox (but not accessible via the XDA II). However, any stored in the other folders I have set up are not accessible (I don't seem to be able to see the folders I have set up on the XDA II).
3. I have performed more hard resets - and backups any sms in the back up (even in the inbox) suffer the same fate of not being readable (But I have now backed up mu more recent ones elsewhere).
Well I'm exhausting my options now.
Any help would be more than welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I have searched the forums but haven't had much luck - if anyone knows of a similar post that has had a reply then could they point me to it).
Any news
Has anyone ever found a way round this?
Similar problem - looking for a solution also.
I had to restore after my SPV M2000 hard reset itself and I cannot view Old or NEW sms messages (apart from when the message bubble is shown as a new message arrives). My messaging inbox, drafts, outbox and deleted items all show the number of messages in them, but I cannot view or access any of them.
Is there any way these messages can be accessed or deleted?
Help!!
Any solution yet
Hi... has anyone figured a way around this yet?
I've spoken to someone at o2 and they said it had something to do with the way the inbox is recognised/linked.
After a hard reset the system is given a new id...but the old messages are linked to an older id....
There must be someway around this.
If I can see the message headers surely there must eb a way of reading the messages!!!!!
HELP PLEASE
A work around if you're stuck
I use Sprite backup which caused this problem after a restore. After raising it with their support team they supplied me with the attached file which allows SMS messages to be received and read.
BE AWARE that all messages on the device will be deleted, but new messages received will work. This will erase SMS, MMS & any emails that are on the device, so use with caution. Make sure you have a full backup!!!
I've been using Sprite backup every time i reinstall a rom. And save my contacts, email and sms, call history etc. None of the system stuff as I like to have a clean start.
But every time I reinstall the backup, the contacts show up like usuly but when ever they call me, it shows up like a new number and ask me if I want to save it to a existing contact or new, if I choose existing contact and save the number it says I have to replace the one I got saved already because it the same number. And after i do that if the contact calls me he shows up. So its like sprite backups the contact but still doesnt really save them or something?
Anyone please? Cause its really annoying. Same with email. I get all my mails and can receive emails and send. But if I choose to edit the account. There isnt any email adress saved.
Thanks for the help!

PIM backup restorals do not work well with Manila.
It is better to use a virtual backup like Microsoft My Phone.
I'll try it out! Thanks alot mate!
The Touch2 displays the latest sms message and the latest email message. Is there anyway to remove this, or add the keylock onto it so people going through the phone can't see your message/email?
I would really love an application to block all my sms and emails too.
I want to lend it to my friends to show them my new phone but i dont want them to go thru my sms
try this one
Code:

Love the new phone so far with one minor problem. Is there an easier way to delete text messages from the device? As it is now I have to press and hold on each message, then click on delete from the menu that pops up.
Not normally a big deal but if you get alot of sms notifications from various message boards/ texts / etc... its a royal pain to have to manually delete 20-30 messages one at a time like that.
if you go back one screen to the list of contacts instead of the list of individual messages, you can delete all messages from a single contact by long pressing.

Thats the screen I was referring to. My problem is that all of the forum notifications that I get come from a different "number" for each message/thread so they dont get threaded together. When I had my iphone 2G there was a delete all ap that cleared all of the messages at once. I loved that ap and was hoping for something similar, or another way to selected multiple messages at once (with checkboxes) then delete them as a group.
SMS backup and restore in the market for free has a delete all. Also lets you back all up to an XML file and restore, no root needed.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
i would suggest using a different mms client. i prefer handcent.
I'm having a couple problems with the email program. First of all the counter (in the folder selection box) that shows how many unread messages I have shows -1 (minus one) instead of 0 when I have no unread messages. It's no big deal but it's a bit annoying. The second problem is that when I get a new message notification and I go check my emails there are no new messages but one or two old messages will briefly appear in the message list for a few seconds then vanish. It gets annoying because it happens each time the program checks my MSN account for new messages. The fix so far is to go into my MSN account via Chrome and delete the offending messages.
Any ideas?
