Greetings All,
I am trying to import some ebooks to my Kindle and Nook app and they won't show up on the list of books. Perhaps I didn't install the books in the correct folder. Also, I noticed that there isn't an option to point the Kindle or Nook app to the import folder. Could someone please tell me how to import the books? Thanks in advance!
Rachael
You need to put the files in the Nook's "My Files" folder for the Nook app to see them.

Nook (and most other book readers) are epub, NOT PDF. You'll need to get something else to read PDF.

The guy above me doesn't know what he is talking about. All three major(Kindle, Nook, Sony) E-ink readers can read PDFs natively now. Just side load PDFs to "My Documents" folder. Nook can only read files in that folder.
Is there a way to read ebooks that I have saved on my sd? They are in epub format

*facepalm* This is a thread about the Nook for Android APP, not the Nook device! The person you corrected was right.

Thanx a ton!!
Mayb I forgot to mention, I have X1 and I have Droid Froyo ported on it...now this My Documents folder, where wil it be located and how to i trace it through Nook?
Hey..i tried the my documents, but nothing...how do i trace it FROM nook??
I've been having the same issue...I can't seem to figure out how to get the nook reader to recognize my books that I already have download from other places...and barnes and noble tech support was useless

Slight Hack
The only way I was able to read a non-BN book through the nook app is to replace the "Welcome to nook forAndroid.epub" file under the nook/MyDocuments with a different ePub. That way you can read a different book.
Crappy "hack" but it worked for me to read another book. Not sure why they have a MyDocuments folder if it does not read files from there..
Rick
Well its not the best method but it gets sh1t done ... I really hate apps that cripple features or selectively forget to add them

Is there any method (without sideload books with TouchXplorer in the Kindle-folder) to add own books to the Kindle-App?
nop i've been searching all day.
If you have a Kindle account on Amazon.com, you would go to the Manage Your Kindle page and add your phone to the list of authorized devices. Make sure you have the Kindle app loaded on you WP7 phone. If you dont have a kindle account, you can set one up on that page and start your reading experience.
I have already done this on my Focus and it is working fine, in addition to my Real Kindle.

I think ur missing the point. I presume the OP wants his own ebooks which he's got from other sources to be available within the Kindle App. I'd also like this feature.
I believe I did miss the point. I am not aware of anyway to move others books into the reader. If the file manager works, try that but I believe that Kindle uses their own format for their books and non Kindle books may not work.
Keep us updated.
Kindle book sideload instructions
nvr mind you wanted to do it without sideloading Alternatively, you can email books to your Kindle for free through a Wi-Fi connection by emailing the .Mobi file format to [email protected] (replacing youraccount with your actual kindle account name).
This only works if you own an actual kindle as well. which is a bummer
I use sideloading and that works fine for me
The problem in your point ist that you need a "real" Kindle to have this mail-adress. I've no Kindle, I'm using the Kindle-WP7-App and Kindle for PC only. So I've no @free.kindle.com - adress.
Sideload a book with TouchXplorer
For everybody don't know how to sideload books: load the ebook (from gutenberg.org for example) in .mobi and mail it to yourself. Then download the attachment and try to open it. After that copy the .mobi-files with TouchXplorer or Advanced Explorer from "My Device/ApplicationData/Volatile/EmailAttachments/Attachments..." to "My Device/Applications/Data/48195FB4-...-...-...-.../Data/IsolatedStorage/kindle". But this process does only work, if you tried to open the file. If you don't WP7 won't copy the files in "EmailAttachments"; I don't know, if the "number" of the Kindle-folder is the same everytime.

Thanks for the tip and it works. However when I do this method the Cover Art for the book is incorrect and instead the first Picture in the book is being shown instead. Any tips to correct?

Great stuff, clear instructions, thanks!
No, sorry. For this you gotta edit the .mobi files.
why don't you all just use Freda which is a free ebook app that allows you to read ebooks that you got from other sources well aslong as they are DRM free
I like the Kindle-App much more, but that's subjective.

Yeah, but that's a problem with Windows Phone 7. TouchXplorer and Advanced Explorer can't do this. But the easy thing is: Reinstall the Kindle-App. If you do this, the whole folder will be removed. But if you do this, you gotta recopy all of your books.

Thanks for mentioning Freda! Two points to note:
1) Freda reads EPUB (also TXT and HTML) formats, but doesn't handle MOBI. So if you have an existing MOBI/Kindle book collection, you'll need to use various technical tricks to convert it into DRM free EPUB format.
2) There is a new version of Freda coming onto the MarketPlace in a few days, which offers some GUI and stability fixes, and performance improvements. Though I admit the thing still does look a bit like an engineering prototype .

After the update, I'll test it again. If it's better then the old (the actual) version, I'll use it.
I noticed that the inspire has a ebook reader app built in. i was trying to find the folder in which to add my personal ebooks to it. My first question is where is the folder for the reader app and my second question is what type of file formats does it support?
Place your ebooks on the folder 'Digital Editions' which should be there (use a file explorer like Astro).
As per the formats, I've only tried epub which work great. Not loving the included reader to be frank. Aldiko is MUCH more fun.
Can someone please pull the .apk and post it here?

Aldiko? There's a free version in the Market
How do I add epub books to MyLibrary?
It looks like the default Alice in Wonderland book is just sitting in the /sdcard directory. It doesn't see my /sdcard/eBooks folder. Do I have to to dump all my epub files in the root of the /sdcard directory? Hope not, that'd be a mess.
Once you connect the tablet to your PC, add the files (i uploaded in the download/ebooks folder) then you should be able to see them in the uncategorized bookshelf. It auto scans for new compatible books. I just uploaded 50+ books and it detected all of them.
I've tested epubs with no DRM in the /sdcard/ebooks folder, and they show up with no issues. Not sure about anything laced with DRM, though - I suspect that they would not work.

Hmm... none are DRM.
I tried using a Rescan Media tool, no luck. Rebooted tablet, still no luck. Wonder why it doesn't like me.
Doh. Figured it out. I have a .nomedia file in my eBooks folder, think Aldiko put it in there. Deleted it and now MyLibrary sees my eBooks.
Thanks!
Some advice please my EPT arrives on Tuesday and the wife wants to use it as an e reader, what's the best format to download to get themvisible on the book shelf,I don't understand this epub/ no drm stuff.will the bookshelf see any format of book
LEEDROID DESIRE HD using XDA PREMIUM
I downloaded some books in Google Books. Any way to get them to show up under My Library?
Seems dumb to have 2 separate "book" apps that can't see each other.

Epub or pdf. Easiest thing for you to do is just download a free program called 'Calibre' and just convert any files you have to epub.
I am looking for a good app that can handle all my reading/book needs. I want it to be able to load ebooks that I manually put on it, and integrate with Google Play Books/Kindle/Nook, and I want to be able to manually paste in text of short stories that I find online to create a mini ebook within the app itself. If there is a simple way to create a ebook file off of plain text, thats fine, if i can then load it into this app. The ability to load audiobooks(just large audio files, often mp3) would also be good, but I can also just do that through Google Music if necessary.
Does anyone know of any such app? Am I dreaming too big?
Dreaming way too big.. lol.
The only way to get access to the major services' books (Google/Kindle/Nook) is to use their official apps. I don't think there are any 3rd party apps than can access their servers. Google Play does allow you to upload .pdfs and .epubs to their servers, but i believe only through their website IIRC.
Moon Reader is a nice app you can use for files on your device.
I don't know of any apps that can create .epub. But google and you shall find.
yea thought so
your information is really helpful. i had no idea i could upload pdfs to play books, thats a huge helper thank you.
Calibre may be of some help to you. It is a computer application that can import ebooks from many sources (paid-DRM/free) and convert e-formats. You can access on your device from anywhere with Aldiko Reader--maybe others, too. Once I buy a book from Amazon or Nook or Kobo, I import it into Calibre. I can also import texts that I create through a word processor. The program does much more than I ever use or will use. You do have to have a computer.

+1 on Calibre! No matter where my ebooks come from I import them into Calibre, convert them and upload them to Play Books so that they sync across all my devices.
