[Resolved] [Q] Android 2.2 Add Widget Screen Question - General Questions and Answers

A ridiculously stupid question but one that is annoying me none the less. Can anyone tell me why when in this video the guy adds a widget only the widget itself comes up with a 2ndary screen for the options & not all options? ie. You have to press Desktop Visualizer to get all available options. Mine (Legend w/ Stock 2.2) just shows all options which makes it very cluttered. Any help appreciated.

Is this what you're looking for? I saw your post on UltraLinx.

GENIUS!!!!!!!!! Thanks man

Yeah, no problem.

FYI - while this installed no problem and did exactly what it was meant to it keeps Force Closing all the time. It turns out from reading the thread for the App that you have to move the app to /system/apps rather than install. To do this you obviously need Root access (which I don't have). I'm assuming this is the issue. Thanks anyway!

Yes, you have to place it in /system/app. I assumed you were rooted. It doesn't force close at all once it's moved to the proper location and everything. Have you considered rooting? I've been rooted for a quite a while and it opens up a whole new world for you.

Since I've started customizing I've certainly being 'tied down' by the fact that I'm not rooted but rooting for the Legend with 2.2 is not easy as you have to downgrade the ROM. To be honest other than having it for this & WidgetLocker customizing I'm not really that anxious to do it. Plus I haven't a fricking clue either!

Yeah, I know what you mean. They haven't created a root for the Legend running 2.2? Haha yeah, I had no idea what rooting really even was when I did it, I just wanted it. Especially after 2.2, my phone got...so...slow. It was ridiculous. I didn't know there were two recoveries either.
(there are two for the Droid 1)

Same thing I did...and I would assume you didn't make a NAND backup...just like me. Only solution you have is to reflash...sucks. Grab titanium backup from the market. It will put most of your stuff back. Only messes up a few widgets for me, and taking the off and putting them back on is easy.
Good luck!

I wonder if the lockscreen layout is setup for a higher resolution device (HVGA) instead of the Hero (QVGA). If that's so, then you could theoretically replace the XML layout files related to the lockscreen from a ROM where the lockscreen is displaying correctly into this ROM.
-Daryel
have you tried pushing HtcLockscreen.apk back to /system/app and rebooting ? or if you go to one of the modded DC roms regawmod (sp?) there are several customizations including the espresso rosie which if they did it correctly should include the espresso lockscreen so you can just flash it and get the stock lockscreen back. as far as how to get the vanilla android lockscreen going I can help with that.

I think I understand wht you are describing ....this lockscreen worked fine on DCv1.0 after removing the htclockscreen.apk and i was wondering if we could remove the correct file from there and port it over to this rom it would be fixed .......but i am just guessing, and would not know where to start
Just trying to not get this post buried....... I hope someone is willing to help see if there is a fix for this lockscreen.....I think I officially diagnosed myself with OCD....LOL
And do really appreciate any help.

I guess either too much going on....... or no fix........ I know this must be an issue for other people... has anyone got a suggestion or a "It cannot be fixed "
Thanks again for all the hard work and dedication!!!!!!!!!! Please help

I have yet to use the lockscreen that everyone wants simply because a. I had no idea it existed and b. I have no idea how to get it. if someone figures this out I am all over it lol. Wish i knew how to help.
the stock android lockscreen will not display right on new sprint 2.1 roms this has been stated in many forums already there is no fix
Guys, just use Android Commander. It does all the ADB commands in a GUI. Useful stuff, it is. If you know where to push/pull stuff and know to backup things before you delete them, you should really only need Nandroid to save you from being unable to boot (stuck on HTC screen, not bootloop).

I f you remove the htclockscreen.apk in this rom you will have this lockscreen with the same problem as it seems that it is setup for landscape or widescreen mode...... forgive me if i am wrong but i have a hard time think this cannot be fixed with all the awesome things that are being accomplished.. I will do whatever i can to help!
thanks a bunch!
I'm interested in this as well. I haven't messed with Android too much but I develop for a living. Does anyone know if the stock 2.1 lock screen is controlled at the source code level or via a configuration file such as an xml? If someone could point me in the right direction, I'll see if I could come up with a solution...
I am living with my deformed lock screen untill someone has a fix.. i hate that htc lock screen.

[Q] Some annoying issues regarding the phone.

Hey,
I just got my myTouch 4G Slide, and I have a few annoying issues. It could be due to the fact that I bought it in China (it even has some apps with Chinese names).
I don't like the "genius" button - I won't use that, and it doesn't work whatsoever. Is there a way to replace its function with, say, search button (like I had on my previous Android phone)?
Music: firstly, I don't even have a music application - I have to open it with the File Explorer (so I can't multitask). Could be because it's Chinese. The main problem is that the music is played from the speaker in the back of the phone. I like to sometimes listen to music without earphones. Is it possible to play music from the same speaker I use to talk?
When I scroll the applications menu, it "jumps" rather than scrolls smoothly - kinda like the difference between scrolling with the mouse wheel, and hitting "Page Down". Is it also a Chinese issue?
Pictures: so far I'm loving the camera. The only issue is that the pictures it produces are named IMG001, IMG002 and so on. That's really annoying. Is it possible to have the pictures named like on my previous phone, which was simply the time it was taken (yyyy-mm-dd hh-mm-ss)?
Thanks a lot for all helpers!

The music icon in the app drawer is one of the apps hidden by Rosie (Sense Launcher). /system/customize/MNS/default.xml has the hidden app list in it.
I don't know if it's possibly to play music through the front-facing speaker at this time, though there's no reason why it can't be. A fun project for someone.

Yea, that's the way it's supposed to be. I don't like it either. You have to edit the Sense launcher directly to change it.
I just spent all day digging around in a decompiled Rosie.apk (Sense launcher) pulling out Kidzone by it's teeth. I've been fixing that kind of stuff since before the sun came up today, funny you should post those questions.

Dunno about this one. I don't think it's a native option, but don't see why it couldn't be written in after the fact.
Thanks for the reply.
Firstly I think we can be sure all the things I posted in OP are solvable - simply because (I think) Android is a Turing-complete machine
As for the "genius" key, I suppose it requires root etc.? Well I guess I would have to root it sometime
For music, how do I un-hide it, then? It really makes no sense to hide such a basic application!
I hope you'll keep me and the rest of the forum updated with the other stuff mentioned. Best of luck!
Have a nice weekend,
Ron.
Can't you get google music from the market? If not, download a room, pull the apk and install it. And this phone is much much much much better rooted. Thanks six btw, enjoying the rom.

The music icon is in the media room icon, along with video player, slacker radio and a couple other items. It took me a while to find it when I got my phone last month.

You have to... i dunno wut da fuhhh T Mo did with this "OS Overlay?"
So, are there any available solutions to the presented problems (except for the first one)?
In addition, I think that when I firstly got the phone and got a call, I got two circles (accept/reject), which I had to drag to a ring (a bit similar to the lock screen). Now it just gives me the standard accept-reject buttons. I couldn't find anything about it in the settings - what have gone wrong?
I believe the answering screen alters depending on whether your screen was locked, or unlocked, at the moment you received your call. Correct me if I'm wrong...
Anyone knows why they removed the Stocks app? Or it is hidden? If hidden how to enable it?

ok
i will try (but I don't want root my device! )
I try the second... but I can't understand how I can hide the button bar!!
The second app (Button Savior) is to toggle show/hide a set of unofficial soft keys, it's used after you've hidden the bar already with the first app (GestureControl).
What you wanted was to hide the bar, which is done with GestureControl and requires root. I suggested the second because it makes things a lot more fluid to use than the unhiding, pressing the needed button, re-hiding cycle.

So... i need to wait for ICS ?
If you aren't going to root and use rendler's GestureControl/Button Savoir method or install Honeybar (it's great for hiding the bottom bar for movies, books, comics) you can hold your breathe for ICS, but who knows when that will drop. Rooting isn't the end of the world if you don't start installing a bunch of stuff you don't need or editing files you don't understand (that end up causing system instablility/boot loops). Just my 2 cents though.

The problem is "root" ... and not the 99cent!!
If you aren't comfortable with rooting your device, you may well never get rid of the bottom bar, even with ICS. It seems that only certain custom ROMs/firmwares have the ability to hide the bar in ICS (the framework changed from HC to ICS where Honeybar or Hidebar do not work, rooted or not).
So, good luck with finding a better solution than the ones already mentioned.
I would suggest just making the jump and root the darn thing. I edited my gps.conf with the standard server upgrades plus a few other tweaks, totally worth it. Even if you don't delve that far into the guts, it's totally worth being able to make proper backups however you'd like.

I don't understand people and their ultra-paranoia sometimes. Are they afraid once they root their device, an alarm will sound off in Samsung HQ in Korea, and a massive Samsung satellite will fire a laser beam to vaporise their Android tablet, or what?

You can go back to stock android 3.2 unrooted at any time when ICS gets out
thanks!!
But I will remain with no-root device (and I hope that ICS will came before september!!!)
I do recommend that to you too. If you can live without root, don't do it.
But if you are curious, root will do you any harm by itself. It only put a binary called su on your system and set permissions.Almost every linux box already has it and its purpose is to change the current user to another, for example, the root AKA administrator. Normally it asks for a password, but the one we use, does not, for simplicity.
So actually, when you do "the root", you are only putting one tool of linux, that was ripped from us, back. That tool does no hacking or modify your system, it only allows you to be the user root that already exists on your system.

Widget Secure Lockscreen Customization

Hello!
First I'd like to say that I am new to the forums, even though I spent a good amount of time lurking around and reading all of the awesome articles of root customization!
Anyways, I tried to research this on my own before I made a thread to avoid clutter and repeats but I can't seem to find a good answer, so I thought I'd ask!
(If I posted this in the wrong forum, sorry!)
So what I have is an AT&T Note 3 rooted with towelroot (I'm still new at this so I can't say if this is "complete root"...?) running on NOVA Launcher.
I've been trying to customize my lock screen while secure but I can't seem to find a simple app for that.... Now mind you, I've tried WidgetLocker Lockscreen by TeslaCoil Software and I just didn't like any of the options it had... I liked the fact that I could add my "iHeartRadio" and Shazam widget without having to unlock my phone but I didn't like how it also made my phone feel "cluttered" if that makes any sense to anyone. Bottom line is, I didn't like it. (even though I paid the $5 for it... ._." )
So anywhoooo, I was wondering if you guys/gals had any recommendations for me? i've tried googling and came up short... and I've also searched the forums coming up with nothing.... Please let me know!
Sorry again if I may come off as unclear.

Thanks! Hella noob question but with no user interface, how can I customize the widgets I want in my lock screen? I have security to swype and have "multiple widgets" activated. I soft reboot my phone when I installed it.
Thanks for the help!

disable app drawer

Hi guys,
it is my first thread so please apologize inconvenience upfront, thank you.
I own a Pixel 2 since a couple of days and I really like it. But since I'm coming from a Huawei device and need to use iOS devices in my company I'm really familiar with the 'no app drawer' thing.
Yeah, I know that this is something most of the people love, but I really can't get used to it.
Is there anyone who maybe know how to disable the app drawer?
Already tried different launcher and the only one that I've found was the Mi-Launcher.
If there is the emui launcher somewhere outside, I would prefer this but I've looked already day after day for it.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thank you all.
cheers

Give it some more time. It's really nice to keep your home screen clutter free and all apps sorted alphabetically in the drawer. You wouldn't want all your computer find at work sorted randomly on the desktop, would you?
But if you must change it, I'm sure there are a bunch of iOS themed launchers in the play store. That's the beauty of Android... Choice!
You could use Nova Launcher. Just disable swipe app drawer and hide the drawer button. Make sure the setting "place newly installed apps on home screen" is enabled.
