[ROM] DJ20 Cellular South Showcase Pick-n-Pack 0.2 ROM - Samsung Mesmerize

******This ROM is for the Cellular South Showcase only******
***Haptic feedback/vibrate functions have been fixed***
With the help of Agpilot!, I was able to get a basic ROM up and running for the Cellular South Showcase. It is stripped down, but fear not, I do not remove dependencies. If it's missing something from the stock set that you want in it, there is a pack of Addons that you can download and flash pieces back in to the ROM.
So that you understand, I do not have a Showcase myself. I am a Mesmerize user. Therefore, I cannot verify any of this myself. I was only able to get this far with the help of a brave tester. As with anything that I do for the Mesmerize, I strongly encourage you to make a backup before you flash anything. I also recommend Titanium Backup to save apps and settings to make things easier after you flash. As a warning, I am not responsible for anything that you do to your phone or the carnage that may result if you go on a rampage because something does not work properly. I am also not responsible if you pee your pants with joy because everything works and you are overjoyed.
Requirements/Recommendations: You must have Clockworkmod Recovery already working to flash this ROM. I recommend you have Quick Boot installed, as it helps boot you into recovery with the touch of a button.
On to the good stuff. I recommend you download both the ROM and the Addons at the same time. This way you can quickly add packages if you want them without having to wait on another download. Put the Showcase_beta_0.1.zip on your sdcard. Unzip the Addons pack and decide what you want to add back in. Put those zip files on your sdcard also.
****IF YOU HAVE VOODOO INSTALLED, DISABLE LAGFIX FIRST****
****IF YOU HAVE VOODOO INSTALLED, DISABLE LAGFIX FIRST****
****IF YOU HAVE VOODOO INSTALLED, DISABLE LAGFIX FIRST****
YES, YOU CAN ENABLE IT AGAIN AFTER YOU FLASH. This is just a precautionary step.
**In CWM Recovery and Voodoo Recovery, use the power button as select**
After you have everything ready boot into recovery. (If you get into stock/blue recovery choose apply sdcard:update.zip) Choose install from zip. Choose zip from sdcard. Choose Showcase_beta_0.1.zip. Choose Yes. Once done, flash each of the zip files that you have chosen from the Addons. After you have finished with all of those, reboot. Your first boot will take longer than usual. If for some reason it sticks at the boot animation for longer than 5 minutes, pull the battery, use three button method to boot back into recovery and choose wipe data/factory reset and reboot.
Apps in the Addons pack.
Allshare
Amazon MP3
Asphalt 5
Buddies Now
Car Cradle
Daily Briefing
Days
Desk Crale
Dual Clock
Email and Yahoo Email (single pack)
Facebook
Free Games
Galaxy Help
Live Wallpapers (pack)
Market
Memo
Mini Diary
MySpace
Samsung Weather, Stock, Calander (pack)
ThinkFree Office
Touchwiz Calander, Calculator (pack)
Voice Commands
Write and Go
Everything else was left in. I do not take anything out from the dependencies so anything that isn't in the Addons pack should be there. If you have Titanium Backup and do a restore to an app that isn't showing up, it should magically reappear.

I am also happy to let you know that I have partially ported two themes to go with this ROM. I have gotten permission from the developers to port these themes and I have recently done so for the Mesmerize. These are only partial ports, as I am very new to the porting process and have not gotten the whole process down, but it is a start. Thanks to jabbawalkee and dena994 for the original themes. If you would like to see pictures of what I think they will look like, remember I don't have a Showcase to test or take screen shots, take a look in the theme section for the DI14 Blues and DI14 Galassia Themes.

I thought I would also add a zip of the icons that I personally made and use for the Blues theme with ADW launcher with 5 icon dock. They are "word" icons for Phone, Contacts, Apps, Messages, and Internet (for Browser).

Thought I would upload some screenshots of this rom with the Galassia theme

If you use the ADW launcher with 5 icon dock enabled, the Phone, Contacts, Messages, and Browser icons look really good in the dock.

Yeah thinking of trying ADW EX looks pretty sweet, I need to revamp my homesreen, its too busy ha

Haptic feedback/vibrate fixed
With a brand new build and the testing of Agpilot! again, we have fixed the vibrate functions!!!
So now everything is working as expected.

Awesome I've been waiting for a rom and this looks great thanks. Is there a way we can port the fascinate unlock screen to the showcase? Its a puzzle unlock always instead of only when a called is missed on the showcase.

No problem. I'm hoping to bring more options as I get better at what I do. With our phones being so close internally, it doesn't take much to do the same things in both. So you can bet, if I do something on the Mesmerize, I'm going to do it on the Showcase, too.

Got cwm backup working. Still need radio baseband backup and a nandroid backup since I bricked my other galaxy. Phone aint cheap to replace. User error.......

Now that you have that part done, go into ROM Manager and flash the Fascinate recovery if you haven't yet. Then you can do nandroid backups from ROM Manager or CWM recovery.

Is the nandroid backups the same as the cwm backups. Just wondering since I killed the other phone hahahaha

Same thing. I prefer to do mine from recovery, but you can still do them through ROM Manager.
If you have already flashed the voodoo kernel you need to disable lagfix before you do your backup. I assume that you haven't, but just to be sure I thought I would put this warning in here.

very nice rom!

This rom is based on nfinitefx45 stock deoxed rom. It was rooted and came with apps2sd, i felt this was a good base and I wouldnt have to extract the RUU myself. I then made and added some features. I also added a few scripts and features from fresh rom.
This is my daily rom and it works very nicely. The reason I felt it was ok to upload is that I optimized the apks and combined features. It is more original then many roms that have been found here. The battery life is also very good, Iv gone a full day with moderate use and never went below 70%.
Much more to come and will try to keep updated.

slightly themed - The images i used came from other themes, sites, or I created. It is original. (bottom dock bar is from VirusXrom, A Evo rom) thanks to him or who created it
added percentage in battery - thx to JsChiSurf
remapped bottom rosie (phone - apps - messages) thx to JsChiSurf (see above for handcent rosie)
Much more to come...
The bottom bar is from an Evo rom VirusRom. The set up of the this post is also similiar to the VirusRom on the Evo threads. I wanted to put something similar to that on here for the Hero forums. The Hero forums are lacking in roms and style. So here is my attempt at it. I was impressed with the way Virus presented his rom.
Thanks to nfinitefx45, flipzmode, JsChiSurf and the Evo guy XxXViRuSXxX. Also to toast and darchstar for there work with the hero.
I have been using cyanogenmod for the past 5+ months and recently switched back to sense. So please don't tell me that you prefer or think its better. They are two completely different roms. I also am not new to this and not new to these forums. Just haven't been very active past couple months.
Here are the screen shots. The notification bar (charge, usb debugging) isnt as red anymore. Also the phone app isnt messed up. It was me deleting the numbers with photoshop.
I changed the notification drop down background.. Let me know if it looks better know. I dont have the hero to take screen shot right now.
Whoa. Not often we have new ROMs around here. Excited to see what you've got in store!
please post screenshots
May have to download and give this shot

Awesome...looking forward to it...sounds like a new rom to try! Thanks for your work.
Does Zen's any kernel work with this as well? I am running aloysius with it and setcpu right now.
Downloading and will be flashing shortly. I'll report back with my findings.
Another question, can i flash the rom and then a kernel back to back?
Idk about zens kernels. You can always try. If it doesn't boot then reflash the rom without wiping and it will replace the stock kernel. Also you can flash any thing back to back. Just do the rom first.

Um... well just to see if you needed to wipe or not b4 you install this updated rom, I installed it over batman 2.2.7 and when I booted I kept gettin g-talk errors. I suggest wipeing but the good thing is that the setup wizard is back and will pull your applications from the market for you.
anybody else lose their dialer. No phone icon on the dock or in applications folder...
Never mind!! I downloaded from my XDA app the first time and I guess I did not get a piece...worked fine with a computer download.
LOVIN' THIS ROM/THEME!!!
Hey how about instead of making new threads over and over and over for the same rom, you just edit the first post?
The next thread you make for the updated rom, I will close and redirect back to this thread as it will be considered SPAM.

Also I would like to say I'm bringing back in version 2.2.9 the 1% increment blinking charging battery icon, I liked knowing what % it was at when it was chaging.
Update: please install 2.2.8 b4 using this update.

With that said, when I flashed Batman, my GPS went awol so I went back to Supes...

Try redownloading I'm in the process of switching servers because mediafire isn't the greatest, also do not download from the xda app there is a problem with the downloads on here it misses bits and pieces...
Also I gotta say I love Mammons work his rom's are always so stable and I do not have the time to produce anything to the even compare to his caliber of work right now, this is why I have borrowed his rom as a basis for this project.

would it be better to just make these into themes if they just basically on top of mammons rom?

They are not just mammon's rom's I do change certain things to my likeing... And I did just post a framework theme... If you want to make it a theme go right ahead and pull all of the apk's you need and make it an update it is super super easy...
pull from /system/app in the original rom zip
Contacts.apk
DialerTabActivity.apk
TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
pull from /system/framework in the original rom zip
framework-res.apk
twframework-res.apk
pull from /system/media/video/shutdown
all 60 of the pngs in this folder.
pull from /system/etc
PowerOn.wav
pull from /system/media/audio/ui
Power_off.ogg
shutdown.ogg
these are all of the themed apk's and files so far, I believe...
then download the 2.2.8.2 update zip I made place these in the same folders inside the zip as the original rom and viola a theme/update zip that you can test out on any rom you would like.
Also you might have to make a new folder or two for the shutdown animation, PowerOn.wav, shutdown, and Power_off.ogg inside the update.zip...
I know this theme works with this rom that is why I do it this way and I in no way recommend doing what I have suggested above, as I have no way of knowing if it will work with any other rom... I will say that it will most likely work with Mammon's...
O'yeah and it will change the build # in the about phone section to Superheroes 2.2.8.2 Batman (that is if anyone attempts this)
Also if you attempt this please let us know what roms it works with and please make sure there are no bugs b4 you post that it works with another rom...
I'm sorry I figure if you are going to risk even soft brickin your phone that I do not want to be respossible for it and you yourself can attempt this...
yea, I'm just gonna stick with this rom, thats a lot of work LOL.
is there anyway to fix the rotation speed? thats the only thing that sucks now, waiting 3 secs for the phone to switch from portrait to landscape. my wifes stock epic switches instantly.
True quadrant score of 1095 with this rom (no silly i/o hack)...
I just installed the latest version. I didn't wipe, everything seems fine but behind the keypad, there is some image, is that normal

[ROM]PORT-NEW LUNA CM 6.0 for the MESMERIZE!!

I HAVE BEEN WORKING VERY HARD THE LAST WEEK TO GET THIS OUT TO YOU ALL AS A X-MAS PRESENT HERE YOU GO...
This is a port that I really like in all respects its Cynaogen 6.0 that I ported to the MESMERIZE it has a BLUE and BLACK splash/moon Theme. This is just the first of many to come from me....I found it here>http://luna.anthemofthesun.com/
This is based on JT's Clean Rom and has no Kernel attached you will not loose anything you have installed and AS ALWAYS DO A NAN-DROID BACKUP FIRST BEFORE YOU FLASH...This has only been tested on a voodoo kernel and has not had any issues if you find any please let me know ASAP as I have tested everything I can...
IMPORTANT>12/24/10: MAY BE AN ISSUE GOING FROM PICK-N-PACK TO THESE I WILL SEE FOR NOW FLASH CLEAN 2 AND THEN VOODOO IF YOU ARE RUNNING VOODOO AND REBOOT THEN FLASH THIS AS IT IS BUILT OFF OF THE CLEAN ROM>>>IF YOU ARE NONVOODOO AND PICK-N-PACK JUST FLASH CLEAN 2 AND REBOOT AND THEN FLASH THIS AS I KNOW THIS WORKS AND FIRST BOOT TAKES A MIN. BE PATIENT HANGS FOR A MIN OR MORE MAKE SURE YOU REBOOT BETWEEN FLASHES....IF YOU ARE VOODOO YOU HAVE TO FLASH KERNEL OVER TOP OF CLEAN 2 BECAUSE THAT ONE HAS A NONVOODOO IN IT AND WILL MESS WITH YA IF YOU DONT YOU CAN DO THOSE 2 AT SAME TIME JUST DO THE KERNEL LAST AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO DISABLE LAG FIX AND YOU WILL BE FINE THAT WAY....THIS IS ONLY IF YOU ARE PICK-N-PACK THAT THIS APPLIES FOR NOW TO BE SAFE......UPDATE>12/25/10: PICK-N-PACK IS OK TO USE BUT EVERYTHING ABOUT THE FLASHING OF A NONVOODOO OVER VOODOO STILL AND ALWAYS WILL APPLY.
INSTALL NOTE:TO PUT ON SD AND FLASH THRU CLOCKWORK-MOD RECOVERY NOT ROM MANAGER....DO A DALVIK CACHE WIPE AND THAT IT FLASH FROM SD AND REBOOT...FIRST BOOT TAKES A MIN OTHERS WILL BE NORMAL...

While they're fixing it I'm using a different theme/ROM.
My signature gives links. I love this theme (in this thread) I just want the MMS to work. I send 10-20 pics a day, so I kinda need it.
This is not a rom, just a theme.

Tried to boot to this ROM...got to the splash screen and hung there forever....looked like it was in a boot loop. Tried flashing it twice...same thing.
Lesson learned.

This is not true, the SECOND link the OP gave is a .ZIP that includes a fully functioning ROM that is themed as shown in ADW. I just flashed this onto my new mesmerize last night and it worked wonderfully (after a learning process that I'll detail below). you may have clicked the first link that simply links to the page about the "luna theme" itself
I'd like to share an experience I had last night trying this process so that others may be informed prior to trying this.
I rooted my phone with Z4 root a few days ago, and also installed the Voodoo kernel with the lag fix. This was all I had done to the phone prior to finding this post and deciding to try out the ROM.
First attempt I followed the instructions well but for whatever reason I completely forgot to disable the lag fix and clearing the cache, so I went right into recovery mode and tried installing this .ZIP from the SD card.
The process was successful so I rebooted. I had the problem i4get75 has, it hung on the splash screen forever, and I instinctively "freaked out", pulled the battery and reverted back to my stock rom (using recovery).
Going back through the instructions I knew right away what I did and so I went ahead and disabled the lagfix through recovery mode (go to Voodoo, then disable) Then after reboot i again skipped a step and went straight to flashing again, after that succeeded I realised i forgot to wipe the cache so I went ahead and cleared the cache and flashed it one last time.
After that the phone booted, hung on the samsung screen for a few mins, then like magic the beautiful luna themed ADW popped up.
For some reason when I reverted back through recovery though, after boot i was missing many apps including the marketplace and my file manager, I'm not sure how this happened but thank god you had a file manager in your rom or I'm not sure how i would have gotten market and my other apps back on there (I'm really new to flashing and working with android, my first smartphone was the Motorola Q, didn't have this problem). In the end I was able to reinstall titanium backup from my SD card and restored them from there since the phone kept the backups
Many thanks to androidman78 and JT and all others involved for your time and talent!
I guess why I feel that this is just a Theme and not a ROM is that when I finally got it working I was seeing all my other apps and even my same wallpaper I had before the flash. To me, that's not a ROM but just a theme.

#1 - did you download the FULL rom? or just a theme
#2 - did you do a FULL wipe? if not then you need to do it right... do a full wipe then flash the rom, not the theme.

[ROM]PORT-DARK GLOSS MOD ported to the MESMERIZE!!!

Here is my second X-MAS GIFT to you all why stop at one since I've been working hard.....
This is based on the DARK GLOSS MOD THEME from the Fascinate and has been PORTED to the MESMERIZE.. THANK YOU TO THE ORIG. DEV OF THAT ROM THATDUDEBUTCH and MERRY X-MAS to you all enjoy.....PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS and FEEDBACK on any issues as it has been built on JT's CLEAN ROM and is without kernel and has been tested with NO issues to report...
IMPORTANT>12/24: MAY BE AN ISSUE GOING FROM PICK-N-PACK TO THESE I WILL SEE FOR NOW FLASH CLEAN 2 AND THEN VOODOO IF YOU ARE RUNNING VOODOO AND REBOOT THEN FLASH THIS AS IT IS BUILT OFF OF THE CLEAN ROM>>>IF YOU ARE NONVOODOO AND PICK-N-PACK JUST FLASH CLEAN 2 AND REBOOT AND THEN FLASH THIS AS I KNOW THIS WORKS AND FIRST BOOT TAKES A MIN. BE PATIENT HANGS FOR A MIN OR MORE MAKE SURE YOU REBOOT BETWEEN FLASHES....IF YOU ARE VOODOO YOU HAVE TO FLASH KERNEL OVER TOP OF CLEAN 2 BECAUSE THAT ONE HAS A NONVOODOO IN IT AND WILL MESS WITH YA IF YOU DONT YOU CAN DO THOSE 2 AT SAME TIME JUST DO THE KERNEL LAST AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO DISABLE LAG FIX AND YOU WILL BE FINE THAT WAY....THIS IS ONLY IF YOU ARE PICK-N-PACK THAT THIS APPLIES FOR NOW TO BE SAFE... Update:12/25... Everything is okay with the pick and pack rom But everything still applies about flashing a nonvoodoo kernel over a voodoo kernel as it always will..Thanks
INSTALL NOTEUT ON SD AND FLASH THRU CLOCKWORK-MOD RECOVERY NOT ROM MANAGER and as always DO A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST...This has the wire mesh drop down I love so much

Truthfully, over the past few months I have had almost every single issue happen to my phone and would be more than happy to assist you if you encounter any problems. Issue resolved....sorry about that Thanks thatdudebutch for coming up with the original dark black mod so that I am able to port this to the mesmerize this port is good but I am going to put more in this port to make it better ....will post updates to this as they are developed.....Thanks and merry x-mas to all.
After a check and a recheck, this will work just fine with the Pick-n-Pack ROM. Originally when I thought I tried flashing this, I was actually flashing the DJ05 Fascinate files that I had downloaded. It pays to watch what you are doing. I didn't realize that I had already downloaded it looking to start a port myself.
Again, all works well with the Pick-n-Pack. Well, all except the mms.apk, but this has nothing to do with the ROM. AOSP mms.apk has an issue on the Mesmerize that jt is still looking in to, trying to find out why picture messaging isn't 100% functional.

Could I take the mms.apk out of the pick-n-pack rom (as it's working for me) and replace it with the mms.apk in this ROM?

We've tried this in the past and didn't have luck with that, but I cannot say for sure with this one. I know that I did try just installing the stock mms.apk over the aosp version and it didn't work. It's worth a try, though.
Just installed and it works great!
Battery life?
Noob warning ! This is my 2nd rom (Dark Gloss/voodoo) and I think I'm not getting as good battery life as my 1st (Pick a Pack/voodoo). It is better than Pick a pack without voodoo. I think power configuration is the same.
Should I re-flash? Can I enable & disable Lag-fix in the recovery menu correctly?
Lastly can a backup made without Lag-fix enabled be restored to a Lag-fix enable phone? and of course any ideas about the battery issue? Thanx,Scott
_________________________
I re-flashed back to pick n pack/voodoo, battery noticeably better now. Don't know why.
Figured out the recovery lag-fix options (default) duh!
Still wondering about backups and restores, but I guess I'll only use lag-fix backups on lag-fixed hardware, and regular backups on regular HW.
Just wanted to say that I'm running the new voodoo kernel and this flashed just fine through the following steps;
boot to recovery;
do backup (it will reboot)
boot to recovery;
disable lagfix
reboot, hear robot chick
boot to recovery
clear dalvik/battery
install zip from sd
reboot (takes a few minutes to load, don't freak)
wa-la beatiful rom, scored 900 with lagfix disabled
enable lagfix, more robot chick
reboot - done.
1423 marks+badd ass sound+awesome looking UI
Thanks everyone!
Does anyone else use this theme?
Just wondering because on mine some of the notifications (for example the weatherbug weather notification I receive through FancyWidget and the Lookout ongoing notification) the text is a dark grey on black background and the only way to read these is to hold your finger on them (they are then highlighted which reverses the colors)
Hoping this is just a setting on my end but I've been through them and nothing seems to be telling those to be that color So i'm wondering if that is just built into the rom (and if someone could be so kind as to make an edit).
Yea its just how the theme works out. I think that the color of that text must be difficult to change, cuz that's the way the retrokid revolution theme is too, which I what Im using.

NO.. Freeze what u want from TB.
It looks very nice, I like the simplistic approach. Thanks for taking the time to work on this!
One thing I'd like to know about Bravia Engine: did you have to do anything to port it or did a ported version from another device work on the A2?

It's supposedly makes pic's and video's make look better... Who knows. So I just threw them inside the rom. No Harm.
Good deal. I've ran your roms on the captivate and the infuse and they are good stable roms. I'll be flashing this once my a2 charges up. Thanks for making one for the a2.

EDITED- BEST ROM EVER. The issues I had must have been something weird. Bad download, shady install... I don't know. What I do know is the second time I installed this ROM its working beautifully. Appologies to the Dev. You obviously took your time with this. Great work! This is the first ROM I've used where I actually like the stock launcher. This ROM is very battery friendly and everything I've tryed so far works as advertised. Including CWM on boot + GPS.
Thank you Googler_1976! Very nice work!

On the positive side... I like the notification screen, phone pad dialer, the whole system seems very smooth and quick. I might take another look at this when I have more time. Thanks for your efforts! You will make a lot of people happy with this.
@cogeary,
Thanks for the sequence on the Play Store. I'll give that a try next time I install this.

I think I like enough tor use. Couple things... Google play store keeps force closing. I deleted cache and data and I'm getting force closes still. I repaired permissions as well. CWM on boot doesn't appear to be working. Not sure why. Is the lockscreen supposed to have an almost double image of a lock and unlock? Seems like it shouldn't? Keyboard is throwing up weird images of keys and freezing spuratically. Sorry for my spelling.

Had to cancel download so I haven't been able to download and flash yet so I don't know about the lockscreen or keyboard. However, I know that the market/play store will FC if you flash /system without clearing data... to fix it just clear cache+data, uninstall updates, then leave it open for a minute or two to update.
How do you make roms? Do u use the android kitchen? Im interested in making (yet another) rom for the a2
