[Q] Wired headset issues.......is it FROYO - HTC Aria Android Development

I have a quesiton for those of you who know more about this stuff than I do. Ever since I have installed a custom FROYO rom on my aria, the wired headset will no longer open voice dial when I long press the button. It opens the music app instead. Not even my stock HTC headphones will open the voice dialer. IS this an issue with FROYO? was it created this way intentionally, or is there a way I can fix it? TIA for any help you can offer

I would think that this would be a configuration setting that can be modified. They may have changed the default setting to launch the music player instead of the voice dialer, but you may be able to change this via Settings.

I think I am getting to the bottom of this.......
From what I understand......the phone itself is choosing to prioritize mixzing over voice dial.......From what I understand you can use an app called autostarts to adjust the heirarchy within the phone...however, I am not brave enough to attempt it as i don't really have any script writing abilities, nor do I understand them. If anyone could talk me through it I would be grateful. I also downloaded choice dialer.....long press will open that, but it also still opens mixzing at the same time so it doesn't really run smoothly...why apps don't have options for button presses on single button remotes is beyond me...of course I have never created an app so I probably shouldn't be throwing around suggestions without first knowing the difficulty involved.

What ROM are you running? I have ran liberated and CM6 Roms and havent have this issue with either. It could be a bug, by now we would have heard this more often.
Except for my Supertooth, I use the OEM wired headset without any issues. Sorry.

Couple ideas/requests

Figured I'd post this where some developers might actually see it. Please let me know if anything already exists to do what I'm looking for.
I Just got a new 8525 (USA carrier: Cingular, slightly modified HTC TyTN) and love it so far. BUT there are a couple things I'd love to change...
The FIRST is disabling the flashing notification LEDs, there's two around the front earpiece, the one on the right flashes green for cellular network connectivity and is on solid when charging (orange then green when charged). On the left is one that flashes blue for BT but green for WiFi.
There's already an effort at MoDaCo BUT it also disables vibrate. Need to keep vibrate and ideally would like to keep the ability for the phone to use the LEDs for notifications (voice mail, call missed, etc). Even in my shirt pocket the flashing is always catching my eye.
Next, I'd really like a way to send all audio to a simple BT earphone (i.e. not an AD2P stereo jobbie) for listening to podcasts, audio books, etc unobtrusively. There's something out there called BTAudio, but it doesn't seem to work on this device. When I run it there's noise audible in the earphone, but audio through media player still comes out of the speaker, not the earphone.
Seems this would be useful for all HTCs (and any others?) with slide out keyboards: a way to disable the popup of the onscreen keyboard. An example: I'll open something that requires text entry, the keyboard pops up, I slide the phone open, the onscreen keyboard goes away, I enter stuff into the field then go on to the next one, and the d_mn onscreen keyboard will often popup again, which is very annoying because if covers much of the screen especially in landscape.
--Maybe a way to link disabling the popup to being in landscape?? Would just as soon keep the on-screen button for the keyboard though, with it's notifications for shift and blue dot...
Well, is there any hope?

Did you read my related article ( http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1398&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 )?
Bluetooth Audio is reported to work with the Hermes / TyTN. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=278778
BTW, do you want me to relocate the thread to the TyTN forum?
I figure it applies to more then just the TyTN, which is why I put it here. These forums are so segregated now...
I think I FOUND a solution for popup onscreen keyboard annoyance:
http://personales.ya.com/beemer/dow..._WM2003_WM5.zip
you don't need any new soft to disable popup keyboard. first of all, it disappears the moment you start typing with slideout one, and stays gone until you manually activate it. another thing, also found here without any effort tells you about a registry tweak to disable it permamently. search.

Yeah, the popup goes away, then pops back up as soon as you move to the next field, possibly covering it, then goes away when you type, then comes up again next field... Especially annoying with the gmail midlet (which has problems of its own relating to selecting fields in the first place).
Would appreciate a link for the registry tweak, haven't seen it in any of the Hermes/TyTN tweaking threads, and there doesn't seem to be a way to set nullKB to be the default.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=918794#post918794
try this out for the sip problems... personally don't know how it does, as im fine with ignoring the virtual keyboard;]
I'll have to try that, thanks Banannq.
So I came up with a few more things I'd like a way to do or would be eager to help somebody beta test
The first two relate to being able to unlock and show off the phone to friends and co-workers while keeping some things private...
1: Except maybe for replying to an SMS I really would like a way to make it so I have to enter a password to run the messages/email program, or even better to enter certain folders within it. Love the way Hotmail works on the PPC, but without some way to keep my private email private I just can't use it.
2: Ability to set a default filter in contacts, for example I'd use the 'no categories' filter, but others have many other uses for this. Not sure if I'd want it to apply to quick dialing or caller ID in the phone app, but an option for that too would be nice.
This is just a general one I've heard many ask for:
3: The ability to set the Calendar application's default opening view, for me it'd be 'month'.
Any of these things possible? Anybody else have some small changes/options they'd love to see added?

[Q] Searching for hack/app "Next track" button

Hi,
I've been several days with that "issue", and I'm not finding any proper answer..so, here we go:
It's simple. I don't like to pull out my phone to skip next track, or skip next recorded FM station, using wired headphones, of course. Is there any hack (or app, or homebrew app) to achieve this?
Thank you.
PS: I know Samsung phones can "doubletap" to skip song, but I love HTC
Sorry, could you explain what you're actually trying to do? I get what you don't like (pulling out the phone) but not what you're asking for, app-wise. "Some way to switch tracks while the phone is in my pocket" is a little bit vague.
Hi,
I'll try to explain myself. If you're listening music, and you wan't to skip to next song, usual procedure is to tap Volume Button, and tap in screen the icon "next song". But, in order to do that, you have to pull out your phone of your pocket.
If you make skips very often, it's very annoying. In my older Android, if I press twice VolUp in wired headset (which I have for my HTC), it skips to next song. That's what I need. I don't have to pull out my phone, and tap in the screen.
I want that behaviour also to FM radio, to skip between stations.
In Samsung Focus/Omnia (WP7 phones), things work like that.
So, I can see a few options ahead:
- An app/hombrew app/registry tweak to change the behaviour of the buttons in my wired headphone, so when I click twice, it skips next song/FM station
- An external FM radio app and/or music player with that option: click twice and skip song
If none of the above is possible, I'm thinking of developing one, but I'll like to know if it's feasible (I'm not much in app paradigm in WP7, maybe it's impossible to circunvent button behaviour).
I think it's all.
Thank you very much for your time.
Ignacio Siles.
Just click twice and it will work.
Also you can click triple and seek to the begining of track.
Well, It doesn't work to me...
If I click Play/pause wired headphone button, the song stop/resume twice, but I can't get to next song.
And if I click VolUp wired headphone button, I can only raise volume.
I'm testing WP7 in a HTC HD2 Twilight ROM 7.008, before buying an actual WP7 phone.
So, does it work like you said in HTC HD7? Which build?
Thank you.
Ignacio Siles.

Works on my Optimus 7 with 2 types of headphones.
Yes. I've read that works with LG and Samsung phones, but no luck with HTC.
Please, can you confirm that double click can change from one FM preset to another?
Maybe HTC it's not the best choice with WP7...
What do you think about my ideas? App/hack/registry tweak..maybe flash different ROM, from Samsung or LG
Works on my HTC hd2
@chorl:
HTC has the best homebrew currently, although Samsung isn't far behind and is catching up. HTC also includes some neat "functional" apps, like Hidden WiFi and Sound Enhancer. However, if this feature is a big deal for you, it might be better to go with a different OEM. Alternatively, it might be coming in an update.
Flashing a ROM from a different OEM will NOT work. ROMs include drivers, and given the hardware differences between devices, you'd be very lucky to even get it to boot, let alone work right.

Yes, indeed. I know the risks about find different ROM, but...it's so frustrating...
Well, I think Samsung it's a good OEM, but you know about Mango update issues...I'll try to improve this a little further..
Thank you GoodDayToDie.
I've read on other forum info about Samsung headphone hardware related to the capability for "double click".
Maybe same headphones with HTC hardware may work properly...
Would be nice if someone can take the test

Surely there's a solution

I've searched here, google, etc... and the solution still escapes me
How in the world do I launch Google voice search (rather than S Voice) via bluetooth when the phone is locked? This is for bluetooth dialing and navigating (push and hold BT headset call button, say "CALL ......" or "NAVIGATE TO ......."
I don't want to flash a new ROM for this, but I'm willing to consider it IF:
- Above function works
- GPS locks are just as fast as stock
- Stability is top notch
- Battery life is as good or better than stock
- UI must be smooth
Stock ROM is great!!! I'd hate to deviate, but I hate even more not being able to use the BT dialing (S Voice SUCKS and rarely works!!!)
I have to have my phone locked (exchange server rules for my employer email)... it's a good policy anyway.
I am currently Stock Rooted, bootloader locked (I can unlock if necessary)
I've seen suggestions to use the Bluetotth launcher app, which works, but not when phone is locked.
The stock ICS has this feature. I hate the Samsung forced S Voice without giving us the alternative to go back to the google apps (which is MUCH better).
I have no clue. How about random ideas?
Try clearing defaults for S Voice and Google Search in the App Manager
Check the settings in both apps (I'm fairly sure I saw an option regarding launching S Voice from the Home button in it's settings)
Try disabling/uninstalling S Voice

I've frozen S Voice with Titanium Backup. All that did was completely remove any ability for voice dialing through bluetooth.
The settings you refered to is a good suggestion, but only disables the home button (pressing it twice) from launching S Voice
Google Voice Search has no usable settings and I'm unable to use it as a default rather than S Voice
Have you tried to disable S voice from the applications settings menu? Certain launchers will allow to to assign actions to buttons. Not sure if BT is included.
And don't call me Shirley.

Freezing in titanium is the same as disabling in the applications menu.
I feel like i read somewhere that synergyROM had this feature of google now replacing s-voice when you froze it. Ill try to find what im talking about for you. Thats the only solution i can think of.

[Q] Odd classic voice dialer intermittently when using wired headset

Folks,
Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.
Running stock 4.4.2, rooted, Franco Kernel, w/ Xposed ( GravityBox ) and Tasker
Has anyone else had problems with a single button wired headset intermittently launching a classic looking voice dialer versus the new voice search stuff when using the headset's button?
I basically have a Tasker profile that unlocks and wakes my phone after I plug in my headset. This all works fine.
Problem is, when trying to actually use the headset to call someone, this classic looking (and I say that because it's a black background with white text, nothing fancy) voice dialer comes up but no matter what, can not make out what I am asking it to do.
If I hit the back button and try the headset button again, it will then sometimes go to the new voice search and work completely as expected. Not every time. Sometimes the classic dialer wants to hang around for 2 or 3 attempts.
Anyone seen this before? I was hoping to find a way to just disable this 'classic' voice dialer because I'm essentially trying to have my phone be more hands free if the headset is plugged in and know the new voice search works just fine.
Thanks,

Could you try starting your device in safe mode and not running any apps you've installed to test if one of them is causing the problem? If you don't experience the problem while in safe mode that's a good indication that an app you've installed is the source of your issue.
I'd appreciate it if you could let me know how your safe mode test went after you get a chance to give it a try.

Joannn,
Thanks for the thoughts.
I tested safe mode and the classic voice dialer does not come up at all so it definitely has to be some sort of app or weird way my system is calling something when using the headset in normal mode.
I tried the following with no success in normal mode:
1) Disabled Xposed and all modules - rebooted - no change
2) Disabled tasker and tested with just plugging in the headset and testing the button - no change
3) Switched from Nova launcher back to stock launcher - no change
4) Uninstalled a headset button control app - no change
So, I'm not sure why the phone randomly thinks this old dialer is the correct one to launch, nor do I have any idea where it is coming from. It doesn't appear to be a separate app and even when I look through the system apks, I see nothing that looks like it references this classic voice dialer. Not sure what's triggering it.

I've got to assume it's something related to Tasker or the Secure Settings plugin for it. I uninstalled every single app I could think of that may have had the ability to make any calls of any nature, and in Settings>Apps I don't see the Voice Dialler at all, even before I started uninstalling things.
Without Tasker being used, I haven't seen the bad dialer come back again.
Was really only using tasker to get around the fact that the headset button is ignored if the phone is pin locked. Guess I'll try and find another way around it.
Thanks for your help,
bambam2k3
Okay, I'm going to take that back.
It's got to be stock somehow. I read some other posts and a quick google image search shows other people with the same dialer, especially when using bluetooth headsets from the lockscreen. I've pretty much removed everything from my phone aside from the stock apps. In the varying posts I've seen, the spelling is incorrect in 50% of them, and I don't know maybe if that has something to do with the language settings of the phone.
I also tested a bluetooth headset that had never been paired with my phone before and when the phone is locked, I get the odd dialer, when it's unlocked, I get the proper google voice search.
My next step would be to completely wipe and reinstall. But, I think I'm going to keep trying to figure this out before going to that length.

the spelling incorrect is not google. and if it was google, it would be spelled incorrect for all, not 50% of the people. the next question is do you have a mod for your lockscreen? whatever it is, it is not googles app that you screenshoted. and you wrote that in safemode, it didnt appear. which also indicates that its a 3rd party app.

Simms,
Figured out the 'spelling mistake'. Since I'm Canadian, I was running my phone in English (UK) versus English (US). When I changed it back to English (US), now Dialer is spelled correctly.
As for lockscreen mods, I do have GravityBox running with some Lockscreen tweaks, but in my previous testing, I totally shutdown Xposed. That's all I've got. Had the same problem with it totally disabled.
Just came across this post on Android Police with a lot of comments with the exact same problem I'm having. Seems even with using Tasker and Secure Settings to disable Pin lock, turn off keyguard, wake the device and take it to the homescreen, the phone still thinks the screen is 'off' and brings up the old dialer.

so it seams then that you either need to update your google search or you are using a samsung device and not a nexus 5.

Question Is there a Magisk module that allows different apps to have different volumes?

I get so tired of not being able to hear my Assistant when I trigger it with the screen off and would really like a way to make sure that my adjustments to volume don't impact Assistant. I seem to remember something like this existing in the HTC days where volume could be controlled on a per-app basis but I haven't heard of anything recently. Is there such a tweak? You would think with how hard Google pushes their Assistant that they would have done something about it themselves.
They should have had a volume mixer for Android a long time ago. Similar to windows

Agreed. I swear I used to use custom ROMs with this on my HTC devices but I never needed such functionality. Now that I have a Pixel that actually works with the trigger phrase (my OnePlus 9 would just randomly stop working so I mapped long press power button to Assistant instead), I want to use it, but when I use my device, I turn the volume down lower than it would have to be for me to be able to hear my Assistant from a distance so I end up having to pick my phone up anyway :/

It used to be that you'd edit several lines in (I believe) build.props (or some props file) in a terminal app that would bypass the volume limit. That may still work, it's just been so long, I can't remember anymore but I might try searching old threads in old devices and see what I can find.
