I had been waiting for this Otterbox for a LONG time!
Was looking forward to the Seidio Active X case, but NOTHING that Seidio makes is even close to Otterbox quality.
Just ordered my Epic Commuter case for $24 with free prime shipping! I'll post a review when it arrives!

Damn this a good looking case. Hope someone reviews it when they receive one.

Nice, I am going to pick one up as soon as get on Amazon.

The Otterbox Q&A section says the keyboard is accessible.

i wonder if its thin enough to use with the dock... probably not.

No case will work with the Samsung Media dock. It was made for a case-less Epic!
Plus, the Otterbox Commuter cases are similar to the Seidio Active X, where they have the silicone inner layer and hard plastic outer shell. They are bulkier than most cases......

Wish they had gotten this out sooner, with a holster combo.
I'm a big fan of Otterbox...
dropped a Bberry from my roof to the concrete below once and it didn't even leave a mark on the case let alone harm the phone (defender series on an old 8330).
But I've already settled into my active X combo now.. Perfectly happy with it.

active x
I too am a fan of the otterbox cases, though not necessarily the prices they charge, however the new commuter style case looks like it will be pretty sweet. I had just ordered a seidio active x case 2 days before the otterbox became available. It arrived this past monday or tuesday and all I can say is wow! It is an awesome case, even though i am one who has been vary picky about which cases i choose for my epic due to thickness/bulk concerns. To my surprise though the seidio active x doesn't bother me at all, it simply makes the phone look and feel more like the high-end device that it is. I've read so many reviews where people compare the evo and the epic and they always mention that the evo feels more like a flagship device than does its 4g cousin the epic. But this all changes as soon as you put an epic in the seidio active x case. I can only hope that the otterbox commuter case is as good and hopefully better than the active x. Regardless though, i guess i will have both so it doesn't really matter which one is better... i just hope that the otterbox is designed well and does not create the screen wobble that so many badly designed cases do with the epic - you know the "wobble" that is created when the clips that hold the cases on the epic are to bulky and create a permanent space between the screen and the keyboard panels.

I just got confirmation that my Otterbox Commuter case from Amazon has been shipped today and I should receive it by Friday!
I just checked amazon again, and sadly they have raised the price from $24 + free shipping to $34 + shipping!
I hope everyone got one when they were cheaper! I will post a full review when i get it!

I paid $29.95 on ebay after I noticed amazon raised their price.

Me too, should be here tomorrow.

Update:
So I just received the otterbox case today in the mail. It is nice but I am still trying to decide how I like it compared to the Seidio active x case. I will say that I do not like the top piece that clips onto the screen. It feels and looks kind of cheap, plus it doesn't fit that well because it kind of hangs on the case when closing the keyboard. However, if you are like me and decided to order the seidio active x case because you didn't like waiting on the otterbox to get in stock, then the top piece from the active x actually fits and looks better with the otterbox bottom than the top piece that comes with the otterbox case.
anybody else try this combination and come to the same conclusion?

I too have both cases and while I do agree that the otterbox top piece "feels" cheaper I do like that it is slightly recessed near on one side so you can easily access the keys on the number row of the qwerty keypad. I tried using the other piece from the seidio active x case with the otterbox bottom and while it does LOOK nicer I prefer function over appearance any day.
All in all I think both of the cases are quality products I think that the Otterbox case will hold up longer over time due to not nearly as much stress is put on the rubber pieces because it's covered more by the hard plastic. The Otterbox Commuter is also slightly thinner than the active X case. However the Seidio Active X case would win in a beauty contest any day of the week.
Otterbox
Pros:
+ Comes with screen protector (can't comment on quality of protector because I'm using my Realook one)
+ Thinner than Seidio Active X (Feels closer to thickness of Seidio Surface Innocase)
+ Recessed portion on side of trim ring so you can access number keys easier
+ Flap covers headphone jack when not in use
+ Better Warranty compared to Seidio (1 year vs 6 months)
+ Longer and thicker clips appear to be able to hold up longer
Cons:
- Feels "plasticy" and cheap
- Although the surface on the back is textured it is still slick and your phone would slide if you left it on your dash
- More expensive than Seidio Active X (comparing using current amazon.com prices)
Seidio Active X Case
Pros:
+ Soft Rubberized coating makes the case look and feel superior
+ Case is molded to fit in your hand without slipping
+ Less expensive than Otterbox
Cons:
- No screen protector
- Thicker than Otterbox
- Shorter and thinner clips hold case to phone are easier to break whenever you have to remove the case

I just got my Otterbox today, and I actually like the way the rubber case from Sprint felt in my hands, I feel this case will slip easily just typing since their is no rubber grip besides the buttons.

I'm actualy glad you posted your feedback. I beieve I was a little hasty to render judgement on the top peice because I too noticed how the active x was thicker and while it provides better screen protection, anyone with an epic has littl to worry about thanks to samsung's use of corning gorrilla glass in the galaxy s series of phones. I've been using the otterbox top all day and I do like the slimmer profile it provides. I'm sure ill switch off between the cases from time to time but both are top notch quality. I haven't had any problems yet with the seidio soft-touch starting to peel off like others have noted but I will keep a lookout for it. I will comment later on the screen potector if I decide to put it on, however if its anything similar to the one that came with my ipad case then it is top quality with zero screen distortion.

I'm definitely interested in this case, but after previously dealing with Seidio, I'm not sure if its gonna be worth it!
If the clips are designed differently from the Innocase, I might consider one, but if they are the same, I will wait for OtterBox to make something nice.
Wow, that actually looks pretty good, and they sell the case/belt clip combo for 49.99. Look at the picture of the area of the case that goes near the microphone, it looks really ill-cut..hopefully it will be more refined when they are released!
yep, i have it in my seidio wish list cart, and have even emailed them to hurry up last week. Looks like the best case i can find. Although if otterbox decides to make one, i might regret this purchase. But otterbox doesnt make many cases for sliders. Hopefully this one.

This is not true! Otterbox makes many sliding phone cases, including cases for the Droid, Droid 2, Palm Pre, Samsung Moment, etc. They make the Commuter case, which is more or less like the Seidio Active case.
But people, I recommend waiting until Amazon has the Active cases in stock.
I bought the Seidio Innocase for $29.99 from Seidio, and a week later, Amazon had the exact same case for $23 with FREE 2 day shipping. :\

i meant in comparison to seidio, they make fewer slider cases. Sedio does almost any phone, otterbox... just the hot ones.
Seidio Innocase Rugged
I received a survey from Seidio developers yesterday asking me if I would be interested in buying an Innocase Rugged even if they weren't able to make it fit with the sliding keyboard feature. I responded saying that the Sprint Epic 4g was the only phone in the Galaxy S line in this country that had a keyboard and that it is one of the main reasons anyone would buy a Galaxy S phone from Sprint versus any other carrier. I recommended that if they can't build it so that we're able to open our sliding keyboard then they should just focus on making a huge extended battery for us instead
The only issue i have is that they need to make good tabs especially for the bezel. When i first got the official sprint case with the grip on the back i loved it but the tabs broke the second time i took it off. I recently got a replacement and the tabs are perfect. The only issue i have with all these cases is that the bezel is always some plastic round crap. I have a great idea that would help out for a rugged seidio case and prevents the thick bezel to influence the keyboard. If you just look at the cases available for epic and think really hard you can get a game changer for slider phone case. But companies stay generic so eeehhhh.
Id prefer themmaking it easier to remove

Good to know! What's the difference between this and the Innocase? Is this more durable?
The Active cases are similar to the Otterbox Commuter or Casemate Tough.
A rubber skin with plastic shell outside. I'm considering the blue active once they show up on amazon.
I'm wary of Seidios quality though because the active case my friend got for her Evo has been shedding since she got it. The active case plastic shell seems to break easily at the corner apparently also.
posted from a EPIC4G.
Yeah between the Evo innocases damaging the phone, and the Epic innocases not fitting properly, I'm expecting to be unpleasantly surprised =\
BUT that's why Amazon is the best, its so easy to return stuff =]

Otterbox Commuter, Fishbone, or Seidio Active x

What case did you choose and why? I'm about to jump into the epic world in the next couple of weeks and looking for some insight...I know the otterbox isn't out yet, but I didn't know if anyone had any info on it. I have an otterbox on my Hero right now and love it.
Thanks in advance and look forward to the epic community!!!
Well, the otterbox commuter is still listed as "coming soon" so that one I know nothing about. I have had two of the black cases from sprint (they always take the box so I don't know what brand) and it was a complete piece of ****. Money down the ****ing ****ter.
Looking into it, the Fishbone cases seem to have a lot of really positive feedback and they're super cheap so I am ordering one once I get back from my holiday.
Bulk wise the non-active x Seidio is the smallest followed by the Fishbone and then the Active X.
I have the X on my Epic and its pretty dang solid, the rubberized coating is starting to wear, but I do put the phone through a lot so I cant imagine what the phone would look like with out it.
Get the fishbone...it is affordable and the build quality is top notch...and it offers the protection equal to a ottebox or active x.

Plus it looks sweet.
i love the fishbone and everyone has commented on the look of it with my phone
well since i was the first person on the with a epic to buy and review the fishbone case, I think that my opinion is well noted...the reason i didnt comment on the look of the case is because beauty is subjective, everyone has different taste and if the op was interested in looks, he could go look at my fishbone review and look for himself..I am glad that the fishbone has become so popular because it is a very nice case at a great price.
Which one would you guys recommend? the Active X or Otterbox Commuter
<chant>fishbone fishbone fishbone fishbone</chant> its a sexy case...
I went ahead and ordered a Otterbox thru ebay, I will give my review and opinion once received.

I went with the Active X, because I want a holster, and I think it offers better protection than the Otterbox because the plastic covers the corners.
Blue Active X Combo for $33 on Ebay. Didn't see it for less than $40 anywhere else. CA sales tax though =P
I wanted to add that the otterbox case for the Epic 4g actually covers the corners better than the active x. Infact as far as protection goes I think the otterbox actually does a better job than the active x because, while each have a silicone and hard plastic layer, the hard plastic covers the entire back on the otterbox while the active x only covers the "clip arms."
Sent from my SPH-D700 (Bonsai v2.0) using XDA App
Ah, I see. I'm wrong about the plastic then. I saw the tech specs and assumed they used pictures of the Epic in the protective layers graphic.
Anyway, I just got my Active X, and it's great: beautiful (blue and black!) and good fit. I like how the silicone covers the buttons. Holster is solid too. I would have gone with the Otterbox if it had a holster though, from their reputation.
The only cons of the Seidio for me:
High lip around the screen makes it harder to use the touchscreen near the edge. It does offer more protection though.
Back shell seems to come off a bit easily. However, it hasn't come off on its own yet.
Which case is the slimmest? Can't really tell from the pictures given on each product's website. The Epic is already pretty bulky as it is so I'm not really looking for anything that oversizes it even more.
The Active X case makes the phone noticeably thicker - maybe 2.5-3mm all around. However, these 3 cases are all two layers, giving extra protection.
If you want thin, then go for something like a skin or the Seidio surface case. But you get less protection. Can't have everything
After much diliberation between the otterbox and seidio I have gone ahead and bought the seidio active x as it seems to be much more solid.hopefully getting it today.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I got the OtterBox Commuter pre-release from my OtterBox rep. It is, in my opinion, the best case for the Epic. The silicon layer covers the entire back, then the hard plastic goes over the silicone layer. The front of the case feels a little less bulky then all the other cases that I have tried as well. I have had no issues with sliding the keypad, either. Definately worth it to wait for it.
My OtterBox Commuter just came in today and based on my first impression it is pretty good. It looks very sleek and feels rather sturdy. My only semi-complaint is that it feels somewhat slippery on the back. Other than that it is pretty much perfect though. I have it paired with a Ghost Armor screen protector which is equally awesome, so now I'm set!
Well, I also just got an Otterbox -- have not tried the others, but wow - this sucker makes my (kinda) fragile Epic feel like a damn tank.
Still don't use a screen protector, really do not see the point on the Gorilla Glass, my screen still looks brand new since I've got it in September...
Actually the whole phone still looks new, before the Otterbox, but I'm not really rough with it.
It's not very thick, but it does add girth - I'm a larger dude so it's no skin off my back.
It actually makes the buttons better to use, and it has a bit of a seal around the edge.
The textured back doesn't help much and it's still slipperier than stock, but it's not so slippery as an iPhone.
9/10
I had the sedio and just got the otterbox. The otterbox is MUCH better in my opinion.
In all honesty though they both have good and bad points. I like the back to the otter box much better than the sedio but the front if the sedio seems much better. The sedio front is much deeper and I like the rubberized plastic. I found that the tabs on the front bezel protector of the otterbox hung up the sliding action of the phone where as the sedio didn't. One person said they just cut a few of them off but I don't like doing that.
So I mixed and matched cases, I have the otterbox back and the sedio front bezel protector on my epic. Another nice little thing I found was that the phone will fit into the sedio belt clip with the otterbox case on. So those of you who like the otterbox but need a belt clip just buy the sedio belt clip... it will fit.
I bought them both on eBay for 15 each so it cost me about the same as a brand new sedio case. That was with the belt clip too.

Sensation Otterbox vs. Casemate Tough Case

Hi - was wondering if any one here could shed some feedback on their experience, etc., as to which case to get among these two as I think I've narrowed it down to these two.
I've bought one of those $5.95 Amazon cases which is alright, do I gain anything by buying either one of these.
Thanks

I also own this case and I will say that unless you want a little bit of extra drop protection then you have nothing to gain. The button design and cutouts on this case are perfect. The case is not bulky and gives the phone some traction so it doesn't feel like it's going to slip out of your hands.

If you are looking for the best case with the best look, protection, feel and all that, check out the case mate pop. Its a tight fit so taking the phone in and out take some practice. It gets easier with time though. I have the white one.

waiting for otterbox to come up with a defender case. although might be difficult with the shape of the screen
The Tough is awesome. Good protection, good grip and the fit is nice. Just don't expect it to be pretty. If anything, it reminds me of a tire because of the hard shell's texture lol.
Haven't seen the Otterbox in person, so can't comment on that.
I have the otterbox and the case mate and they are both nice but I prefer the case mate because of the textured back which adds TONS of grip to the back opposed the the slick plastic on the otterbox.
They look the same

CASE MATE is my favorite I have 5 cases but the Case Mate Tough Case never leaves my phone(unless i am swapping battery or memory card ). Also i have had quite a few (high) drops and it is still running perfect.
what i like about the otter over the case mate is that the ports are all coverd in the otterbox

I purchased the body glove when i bought the phone, let me say worst 20 dollars i spent ever. The thing broke from the hinge in my pocket. Either one of these to options is better then the BG
Along with amazon, I find ebay to be even cheaper.
Saw and felt the Otterbox Commuter for me its a good case. It has good all over protection of the phone, However the back side of the otterbox is kinda sleeky than the back cover of the sensation.
I personally have the the Otterbox Commuter case for the HTC Sensation, so I cannot comment on the Casemate. I like the Otterbox for the design to protect the phone between the impact case and gel case together for protection, plus the headphone and USB port covers. The hard plastic impact case is not the best for grip, and the gel part of the case is a major magnet for lint from your pocket.
Hope that helps!
Edit: OK, missed something myself. Wanted a charging dock that supports a case, so I bought one. But it won't work very well if there is a USB port cover, so just something extra to consider!
Does anyone know if they updated the Case-mate tough case design, where originally they had the mic above the camera lens covered? I could have sworn I saw a thread where Case-mate said they were going to update their case and just uncover for that one hole. Just curious if anyone has bought it lately and knows.
I got mine in January I think and it still has that hole covered up. Is that hole supposed to be the noise cancellation mic? I'd have to ask my wife if my call quality has gotten worse since getting this case, but knowing her she wouldn't notice anyway lol.
If anything, it's probably not hard to just drill a tiny hole into the casing.
I have the otterbox commutor, and its sad to say. It is the first Otterbox ive owned that im disappointed in. Due to the top and bottom being rounded. After alot of use in your pocket the rubber on top and bottom loosens and sags. I bought the Otterbox the day it came out and overnighted it. I have yet to find a decent replacement.
In no way would i bash Otterbox on this one product. I have owned other cases for Iphone 3gs, Mytouch 4g and Nook Color. ALL cases were some of the best i have seen. Quality if usually above the rest. I think it is the design due to the large about of exposed rubber on top and bottom.

Slim case

I love the design of this phone so I want the slimmest possible case I can find. Can anyone recommend a very slim case?
same as you, didn't really want to cover it up too much since the design is so nice. I went with this and I think it will be a good match. I have the white phone so I ordered the white case:

You could get the official ones by HTC. They take minimalism to a whole new level bit the downside is its so expensive for a flimy piece of plastic. Or the feather cases by Incipio.

i ordered the black & gray ROCK cases and the case mate barely there case. the ROCK cases look nice but are definitely made for the International X. although they fit the One XL, the camera opening is about1-2 mm lower at the top. not a big issue for me at all. however, the case-mate fits perfectly and looks best! i like how the sides are angled for a perfect fit, e.g., fits the One XL's angled sides like a glove. the obvious downside is the limited protection, e.g., exposed top and bottom.
i sold both ROCK cases to a friend who has the International X and kept the case-mate. i added a couple of pics that (hopefully) show how slim and form-fitting the case-mate case is...
im going with the amzer tpu luxe arigle case had it with captivate and like it and did its job and looks good

I liked the case for the whole 5 seconds it lasted me
Funny part is that I was planning on spray painting it black cos that case only comes in orange/blue. And while i was taking the case off it snapped on me. Good thing is AT&T warranties out accessories for a whole year. I have a feeling im going to be using that warranty a lot.
You get what you ask for looking for a slim case. They don't offer any protection at all. Which for me is fine. I just don't like how hot the phone gets without a case. I ended up getting the full body zagg.

i broke my orange version of this case too. if you like to swap out cases every other day (like me) this case may not be for you because you will eventually break it, no doubt about it. i've been luckier with my blue case as it hasn't snapped on me yet.
Just ordered an Amzer Shellster case found here:
http://www.amazon.com/Amzer-AMZ9380...PA1Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338902558&sr=8-1
It's not the most "minimalist" case out there but it seems sturdy enough for repeated application and removal (which is important to me since I use multiple cases). It also comes with a holster, which most slim cases do not. It also looks like it offers great protection for the camera.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMdD2Q35_XA
I'll put up some pics and do a "mini-review" if anyone is interested.
So the case-mate barely there doesn't specify on amazon whether its for the international or att version. However I have heard that it fits ours just fine. Can anyone verify?
And also does it come with a screen protector?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Received my Amzer Shellster yesterday. I can confirm that it fits the AT&T version of the HOX.
Pros
Accurate Fit
Cutouts line up perfectly
Protects camera
Front lip keeps screen from touching when face down
Comes with a holster
Cons
Minamilistic case means it provides less protection than traditional cases
Does not cover top and bottom
Soft touch finish can be a little slippery
While the holster uses "pressure" to hold the phone it does not have an actual mechanism to secure it
Overall, the case is really nice for what it's meant to do. It is advertised as a slim case and it provides all the protection that it entails.
I have included some pics in the attachments showing the cutouts and fit, as well as the holster and front lip.
I got the case mate barely there. Overall I really like it, I wish it was a little thicker because the camera still sticks out a little.

Purchased this as well. Very small and seems to do the trick. I wish it had a stand though.
I recommend the cruzerlite. Only $10

I found something that will look sleek for my new phone. I was looking into cases, and this Ultra Thin just caught my attention. Placed in my order from Cretouch store. The price is decent and they offer free shipping too!

Are you talking about this?

"Will the Ultra Thin Air fit the AT&T version of the HTC One X?
We don't recommend the Ultra Thin Air with the AT&T version as this case was originally designed for the international version. The AT&T version of the phone is slightly longer. While the case my be compatible, it may not be a perfect fit."

Thanks for the pics and review. How long did shipping take? Your review should have its own thread, those photos and review is great.
Plus was it really only $14.99?

You're welcome . Shipping was pretty fast, I bought the one that is "sold and shipped" by Amazon. And yeah, I got it for $14.99.

Tired of Commuter, Any suggestions?

Ok so ive had the blue/black Otterbox commuter now for a few weeks and I did like it at first but now im just sick of it, makes the phone a little to thick for how often i use it and just has gotten on my nerves, anyone able to recommend something with about the same protection maybe a little bit more thin?
also, ill probably ship this one off to someone when i get a replacment
Felt the same way with my commuter. From what I've red its the thinnest one of that type of case. The tridents look cooler, but myself I just got an incipio feather shine and I love it. Provides more drop protection than you would think, but looks way cool
Same protection? Get the Incipio Silicrylic case, looks tons better than the Otter box.
If you want a sleeker case overall, get the Seidio Surface case, with kickstand.

yeah i been eyeballing the seido....hows the grip on it?, if the commuter had grip i could deal with the thickness
Pretty good, not a glossy finish and the kickstand doesn't add a weird bump like with the Seidio Active. Lmk if you want pics comparing the normal Surface with the Surface kickstand.

sure
Had a Best Buy gift card so I grabbed that platinum series case/holster combo and I like it. Pretty protective and slimmer than the Commuter for sure.
I used to use the Commuter on all my iPhones, but the one for the One X is just too hard to get on and off for me. I wanted a slimmer case that didn't leave the camera lens hanging out the back (and I didn't want to break the bank either). I found this one on eBay and it's fantastic. And only $7.95, too. The seller ships super fast, too (from California to Kentucky in 2 days).

Incipio NGP here. I like the softer feel and the decent protection around the edges. The included screen protector is rather lousy, but you can use the coupon to get XtremeGuard for next to nothing. You will have to cut it down a bit to work well with the ngp and not lift at the edges.
i havent gotten mine yet for the One X but i ordered the Barely There case by Case Logic, i had it for my Inspire 4g and another for my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, cant wait to get mine for this phone, they are thing light and stay on, they arent going to protect from drops like the commuter but they will keep it from getting scratched to hell on the back.

Have you noticed the the silicone on the silicryilc to be loose at all? The top and and bottom worry me because they lack the plastic coverage.

Will not protect the lens cover at all. If you are worried about "scratching like hell" you might want something more substantial.
really cause the other two i have had were fine even the Inspire which had the lens that flared out like the HOX kinda sucks now ill look into another case maybe the incipio feather? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZT4UWI/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 or this as from the pictures it looks like it helps with the lens.

I ordered both the feather and the ngp from Incipio. Sent the feather back to because the protection was too minimal. Love the ngp so far. Not too bulky not too flimsy. The provided screen protector sucks big time tho. Incipio has versions for both hox models make sure you get the right one. Order from Incipio direct, indirect same price

Graced with a sleek painted aluminum finish on a durable hard shell exterior and fitting both World and AT&T versions of the phone.....
I wonder how that works or fits?????

I am more worried about the side of the case being so flexible. Compared to my old HTC Sensation's otterbox case which was more rigid.
Apart from that, i like the case.
I dropped mine and cracked the screen, it was seriously the smallest drop ever for a phone and still broke. Most fragile phone I've ever had given how many other of my HTC's have been used like a football.
So once its fixed/replaced, I wont be taking a 2nd chance despite hating cases.
Thought about the Incipio feather Ultralight but based on the comments, sounds like it won't offer any decent protection. Might order the NGP Semi-Rigid Soft Shell Case instead. But from the photos, does the case sit over the buttons or are there cut outs?
What are the other options as far as minimal size but decent protection? I'll take my chances breaking it again before using some bulky ugly case!
HTC - NGP
Pretty sure there is only a single NGP that fits the international and AT&T version. The case covers the buttons but all are functional. I purchased the Nillkin Scub first which is very sleek but didn't offer a substantial lip around the screen. The NGP offers good protection without being bulky. Because it's designed for the international version the cutouts don't line up perfectly (microphone and speaker) but all the buttons and ports work fine. Had to make a small cut to get one of my power cords to fit.
