Have you installed anything like ROM Manager and Clockwork Mod etc?
What were you trying to do in recovery?

take the battery out and put it back in and that should help. are you rooted at all? i would also like to know what you were trying to do in recovery???
Mine did this last night, when I turned it completely off and then plugged into the wall charger. I realized that you can't have clockworkmod installed and have connect to pc set to "disk drive" - connect to pc must be set to "charge" when the phone is turned off or it enters recovery mode automatically. I also noticed that the center button has a red light flash in it once, when you plug it in with the phone completely off and connect to pc has "disk drive" selected...

Hi everyone,
I've got a BIG problem
I have a Galaxy Ace. A friend of mine played with it and Since then the phone is kinda dead
When I press the On/Off button, a series of vertical color bars appear on the screen (filling 2/3 of screen) [See attached]
Screen reduces the brightness in 5 secs
Then nothing happens and phone does not respond to any key combination
When I combine volume down with power buttons, the same thing happens although this time the phone camera flashes once!
Using the Volume up button gives me two flashes!
By the way, Odin recognize the phone on a COM port, but I don't know what I can do with that?
I also tried ADB REBOOT RECOVERY command in Android SDK as recommended by someone in here. It says DEVICE NOT FOUND
Does anyone have any idea how can I restore the phone to a normal state?
Appreciate your help

any Ideas? I'm very worried about the phone
Try holding homescreenbutton and on key. Recovery menu should turn up. Then perform a hard reset
I just bricked my ace today and there was no way I was able to fix it, the closest I got was getting the device into a 'connecting' state in the samsung kies software but didn't got any further, no screen no nothing..
Eventually I went back to the store and they replaced it without asking too many questions, I told them it died while doing a factory reset.

Yes looks like the ACE still got problems, my friend's ACE also hangs alot.
My problem is that I can't see anything on the scree (see pic above) I dpn't know what state the handset is in!!!
Any one has a link to a recent firmware for ACE that works?
Weird, don't know if the resistor trick that works on the Galaxy S could also apply on this model ?

Rom manager? If so your phone is dead. Do you honestly think selecting software meant for another device will work? Rom manager does not support the galaxy ace, yet. You've now ruined the partitions and so far noone has managed to get a successful unbrick. Make up a bull**** story and hope you get the phone fixed in warranty. Tata.

cant i do any thing now with my phone???? aint there any way 2 unbrick my phone nw?????
Hi,
My Inspire is now stuck in a cm7 bootloop after I messed up flasing cm7 to it, and I can't boot into recovery now. I take out the battery and restart it with power + vol- down, but it just loads back into the bootloop and there is no way for me to access any recoveries or the main screen. Is there any way I can completely reset my phone from my computer? It seems like that is my last resort now, so if that is possible I would be completely willing to start over from the beginning with rooting and flashing. Any help is appreciated.
Also, my volume rocker has not been working for the past few hours, and I have no idea if it was broken originally (I doubt that) or if it was broken after a bad root or something. This is the main reason I need to reset it from my computer.
Also, my phone is not being recognized by my computer when I plug it in. The more I think about it the more I realize that I'm probably screwed, so any advice to the contrary would make me love you forever.
try with the power cord attached, holding the volume up,power on until the red led starts flashing, then remove the battery put the battery back in, press the power button. for me this got it into recovery. good luck
Thanks for the help, but it didn't work. At this point I'm just looking for a way to reset it from my computer and start completely over. I don't care about any data or apps I had on there, and I don't even care about the root I had. If anyone knows ANY way to reset my phone back to factory settings (or if AT&T does this) please tell me.
If you vant get your computer to recognize your phone then you cant restore.
Some att stores can do it, but remember you have voided your warranty.
What recovery version are you using? If its an older version then you can plug the phone in while it is off, and it will boot into recovery.
How long have pulled the battery for?

Recovery is volume DOWN plus power for 5 seconds, bootloader its volume up plus power...
Try putting CM7 or any other ROM on your SD card via your computer, using a card reader. Then boot into recovery (volume down plus power), wipe data/cache/Davlik, then install from zip. That should get you up and running.

I recently started looking into rooting my phone and was trying to use Odin to flash Clockwork Recovery mod into my Sidekick 4g. In the middle of downloading the program shut down. I unpluged the phone from the computer and got a black screen with an image of phone+!+computer. So i rebooted into download mode, opened odin, and plugged the phone into the computer. Clicked start and it reset. Then it went into a reboot loop, alternating between the boot up logo and a white screen with 2 blue lines. I thought i could reset it again with odin so i did, and now i have a black screen that only has the back light on if i press the power key or plug it in the computer via usb. Now odin wont even recognize my device. Neither would adb devices. If i hold volume down and power key for a few seconds the back light flashes on and off once then completely off. Can anyone please Help?

it sounds like there is a chance your device is bricked beyond repair i did that to mine by flashing the wrong stuff with Odin, and i had no choice but to get a new one. all i could get was a slight backlighting when pressing buttons, no DL mode, no boot logo, nothing.
btw, Odin isn't used to root the phone or to install Clockwork Recovery(at least as far as i know). Odin is a tool to use if something goes wrong somewhere and you need to restore your phone from a soft brick.
also, just so you know, this post should go in the General section of this forum.
try an alternate way to go into download mode:
take the battery out
connect the phone via usb to the computer
while pressing vol down + power + trackpad insert the battery
try it a couple of times, if it doesn't work, sorry

I vouch for the effectiveness of this method of getting into recovery. Saved me last night
Also if you can get it into download mode you can most likely recover it. Follow the instructions below:

I think this goes in the general section bro.
had VERY similar issues 2x.
I had to repartition with Odin, then drop the image.
The image drop didn't work, but after I reparted, (repart failed at the end, but it was good enough to redrop the image, after restarting the whole thing over again) all was good.

My phone also showed the "phone - ! - PC" icon so I thought it was done for as well. Between these two threads, specifically tweeklulz post above, I was able to recover my phone!
Prior to starting the ODIN process, power on your Sidekick to that wretched brick screen. From there plug your phone to your phone via USB then immediately remove the battery. That horrible brick screen will still be there, but just run the ODIN process anyway.
Thank you all for your input! This saved my phone and I am a 9million% NOOB to developing and mods. LOL

When i press power, dimmed lights come up on the background and when i connect it with usb, same thing..
Look back at the Odin threads again. I doubt your phone is (permanently) bricked.

We do have UnBrickable Mod on this device now. You just remove a resistor, create a bridge and then use the Ultimate UnBrickable Resurrector to upload Download Mode to the device any time you want.. It takes a bit of skill, but hey.. Nothing to have a heart attack about.

Hello, I am trying to help my friend unbrick his phone.
All I know is that he was trying to use a one click root program and after several reboots the phone would no longer boot. It vibrates three times and flashes an orange light.
If I plug the phone into my computer, clockwork mod recovery with the words "ace hack kit" will show up. I tried wiping data, cachce, etc. and installing Android Revolution HD.
On my computer, if I type "adb devices" then it will show H13142452345 recovery.
If I type adb reboot bootloader the phone will vibrate three times and flash the orange light.
When the phone is plugged into my computer during the blinking orange light, then my computer says "device drivers not found for Qualcomm MSM"
I have also tried booting the phone with the sd card and SIM card removed.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.
**************SOLVED******************
The problem was that my volume buttons were broken. Once I destroyed the ribbon cable connecting the volume buttons to the motherboard, the phone booted up just fine.

First, you shouldn't have used a root program that does not support your device. The only efficient rooting method to the moment is the Hack Kit. Anyway. Try reverting your phone to stock using the hack kit. You shouldn't have wiped data also as you have probably disabled USB debugging. If you can't revert it to stock with the hack kit, then your best choice is to hit the IRC channel and ask for help. The guys there know the business and might be able to help. Hope you.can sort the issue out.

Thanks. I'm not sure what program he was using to try to root the phone, my guess is that he was using the ace hack kit because the recovery on his phone says "ace hack kit" on it. Thanks for the tip on going to the IRC.
You've bricked it, I believe the phone is now in Qualcomm's Diagnostic dload mode.
Confirmed, you're in Qualcomm's Diagnostic mode.
My suggestion is to try and find a PD98IMG file that flashes everything to stock, use a clean FAT32 sd card, put it in the phone, and then try to see if it'll flash it when you press volume-down and power. Apparently that should give you five vibrations, then after 5 minutes, press volume up to let it vibrate once, then spend about another 10 minutes before pressing volume up one more time.
Thanks for the reply Hunter. I've tried a variety of button combinations and methods to try to get it to boot into the five vibration green light mode. Unfortunately, no matter what button combination I press I can only get it into 3 vibration orange light mode.
Did you attempt the Hack kit ?
Help please
Im in a dire situation, what do I do. Could some one give me a step by step explanation??
Thank you that would be a big help

When you connect the phone to the PC, if you can get it to say QHSUSB_DLOAD, then you can try the HTC sensation unbricking project: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23078349
Generally, flashing ROMs for other phones will result in a brick... So I guess you learned your lesson the hard way.
By the way, can you boot into bootloader at all? (Remove battery, insert battery, volume down +power button)
If you can boot into bootloader, then you have hope.
Also, do you remember if your phone was s-off before this happened?

Hold volume down and power button to enter the bootloader. Then choose the recovery option with the volume buttons and press power to confirm. When the recovery didn't load press volume up and power. Now you are in the recovery. Do a backup and wipe to factory settings.
