[Q] Flashing single files - Galaxy 3 Android Development

Hi,
So, I have seen lots of people talking about flashing individual files from different firmwares to solve some problems.
Here's my question:
How do you flash the individual files of a .tar file? E.g. modem.bin into PDA/phone/csc? ?
What's a Unix compatible tar?
Thanks in advance

You can manipulate a tar archive with total commander or izarc to create valid archives. Today i flashed only the kernel from jpb to my jpa firmware. But also i had to do this as one package cause odin put up an error when trying to flash it as pda.

Odin checks the filename, when i get home i will check a multi file package template using a multi package for i7500 that uses the same Odin version.

Need Help using ODIN & Tar file

Need help. I am trying to restore my Skyrocket to factory. I down loaded the necessary files
-ODIN
-SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane
The thing is that when I open Odin, click PDA and browse, I don't see the tar file(SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane)? Do I have to convert the file to tar?
The SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane is in the download file and I see it but when I use Odin to browse, I don't see the file?
Am I doing something wrong or am I missing a step?
I am using Window's Vista. Does it make any difference?
I have read instructions many many times and I can't figure it out.
anyone out there?
Sorry bro. I would help you but seeing as I have yet to have my SkyRocket in Hand and have not gone through the rooting and ROM process on THIS device. I am not comfortable giving advice. Best to wait for someone who has more experience with the SkyRocket than I.

the .tar file is INSIDE the file you downloaded. the file you downloaded is a .7z or 7zip file. 7zip is a free archive/extractor. unzip it with 7zip and you will find your tar file.
i find it always helps to have your WINDOWS configured to show file extensions to keep confusion like this to a minimum, since you would have actually seen the file extension type.
careful! this method trips the ROM counter. why are you returning to stock?
I figuered it out. I bricked my phone trying to update to 2.36.

You know there is a cwm flashable rooted zip for 2.3.6 right? Its here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361144

What are the different ODIN files in package?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus Wi-Fi only GT-P6210 that I want to flash back to stock ROM using ODIN. I have found two packages at this thread. (I can't post to the following thread because I'm a noob)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367478
One package has only one file that I know is the PDA file. The other package has 3 files:
GT-P6210-MULTI-CSC-OXEKK1_RST.tar.md5
P6210_APBOOT_P6210XXKL2_CL583761_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
P6210_CODE_P6210XXKL2_CL583761_REV02_user_low_ship_16G.tar.md5
The CODE file is the PDA file, correct?
The CSC file is the CSC file, duh.
What is the APBOOT file?
Can you also explain what the different files are? What is a CSC file? What is a PIT file? Why does the other package only contain the PDA file?
I've never ODIN'd before so I want to make sure I know what I'm doing and flash the correct package.

I have the same question my self but didnt know where to look... Hopefully you get an answer soon cause id like to know to, my tab got screwed up and i dont know how to get the original firmware back and no clue how to properly flash the odin with out screwing it up more, so hopefully this works

Can anybody who have 5100 compress this file to tar and send it compressed cwm6.0.1.2

Can anybody who have p-5100 compress this file to tar and send it compressed for us to use cwm 6.0.1.2 for p-5100 as i wanted to compress it but afraid that parameters used in compression to tar or app used for compressions to tar would make the file unflashable or brick our p-5100 tab2 10 inch tablets the file has extension img and i asked codworxx about flashing it in odin and he says that the file should be compressed to tar before flashing with odin or we could flash it directly via heimedall so as some of us especially windows users are comfortable with using odin not heimedall so i think a file like this compressed to tar with correct parameters and program will help us alot to update cwm from 6.0.1.0 non touch to 6.0.1.2 touch

Don't waste your time, install Mobile Odin ,and rename recovery to recovery.img (exactly, not recovery6.0.1.2 or another way) and flash it thru Mobile Odin recovery option.I did it many times on my tab2 ,without problems, but there is it a catch, first you need root to be able to use Mobile Odin.
Cheers
As i know mobile odin is a paid app and in my country Egypt i can not buy apps of market yet

ROM extraction

How to extract full ROM from Tab 2 & can we flash it via odin??
As i know the tar file is extractable via winrar 7zip etc you download firmware from www.samfirmware.com and you will find a big tar file that could be extracted
Take care if you flash it not to screw things up as modifying file could cause brick of tab if modification done incorrectly

Best ROM format/way for flashing using ODIN

Hi guys,
Recently I've downloaded the last firmware from Vodafone Spain for the SM-G920F model using the wonderful SamFirm windows exe. The first time I got a ZIP file containing all the partition images and the second time ("Binary Nature" selected) I got the typical four files for the four ODIN'S fields.
Now, here comes the doubt, which of them should I flash? I mean, does the four files format include the PIT file for example? Or there are no differences between doing it using the ZIP file or four files format? Which is the better format/way to install it completely clean?
Thank you all!
So...
The four files firmware contains pit and will erase your data. That's the main differences. The four files is more through, so it's better for clean start.
