ok since there are 5 threads right now on the first page about how to do it and there shouldn't be, this is what you do, i will not link anything to anything because you should be able to find everything pretty easily(they are all stickies)
so all of you that messed something up on your phone and need to get it back into warranty this is how, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
NOTE: if you have flashed a custom splash screen to splash2 then you will need to erase that before step one with this code
plug phone into usb in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot erase splash2
After that you will have only one splash screen and when you flash the .nbh you will be fine
1. Get the original SPL for your phone, get it here
2. Rename it to update.zip and copy it to your sd card. /sdcard
3. Download the DREAIMG.nbh from here.
4. Place DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card. /sdcard
5. Go into your phones recovery. [Hold the home & power button]
6. Push Alt+S on your G1 to flash it with update.zip
7. After it does its thing, gettig back to your home screen.
4. Start phone in bootloader. [Hold camera+power button]
5. Hit power to start the update DO NOT INTERRUPT!! i can not stress this enough.
6. Click on the action button(track ball) and your phone will reboot.
7. YOU NOW HAVE STOCK FIRMWARE, it will update on it's own in a little bit, or *Settings>About phone>System Updates*
MODS PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU TO STICKY THIS POST OR AT LEAST THIS ONE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364
so that people can stop posting: how can i unroot my phone or can i revert back to stock firmware like theres not 10 different posts about it.
Mods sticky
Hey man you got my vote it was drivin me insane tryin to find this and thank you!!! Also, just to amke sure that it worked, what is it supposed to say on "About Phone". Thank you man
Just wanted to add one point - I followed this guide, but there's one bit that might not be obvious.
DREAIMG.nbh will restore your phone *mostly* to stock. There's one thing it won't change - the second splash image. If you've changed your splash images, you might want to restore them to stock separately before following these instructions.
Wouldn't be an issue for most users, but in my case the keyboard bit the dust and I had to do a return, and once I set it back to stock I couldn't re-root (and was left returning the phone with a custom second splash image).
i followed all of these steps and as it was applying the dreamimg rc29 for me it said failure... what do i try now? it seems that now my phone will only boot to the multi-colored screen and everytime i try to apply the update it fails about 3/4th of the way through... my phone doesnt work... any thoughts on how to fix this?
found the problem, sorry for my ignorance i didnt format the card completely so there were other files in the root and all i did was reformat and just copy the nbh file back over and it worked just fine sorry guys
one question...do i have to find the stock rc30 and rc33 to update also?? aren's there somethings required to update to cupcake? (like radio??)

you don't need to find the RC30 or RC33 files because when you have the stock RC29 your phone will update on it's own after a few hours. the only thing needed to upgrade to cupcake is the cupcake image. the radio is a choice and you ocan choose not to flash it. i still use the original radio that came on the phone with RC30 simply because i have been too lazy to get the latest radios
bump. good info

I rooted my fone for the first time today and played around. In the end I decided to unroot, because I need steeel and chompsms too much.
I went back to RC7 (my phone was previously RC9 before I rooted). How long should I expect to wait before my G1 auto-updates?
Thanks!
this should be a sticky... thanx
the greatest thing about the thread? well since making it i have only seen two people post that they need to unroot their phone and don'w know how. woo hoo
how long does it usually take to upgrade on its own? its been over 2 hours now and nothing..
its been over 24 hours since ii brought mine back to "stock" and i still havent received the update, what the f is going on? is this normal? sorry but im a newb.
same here I am back to the orignal RC29 but have not received any OTA like RC33???
to all of you that haven't recieved an update yet, there is an option in settings that will allow you to check for updates. or download anycut and create a shortcut. if you do not know how to follow the instructions in this thread you probably shouldn't have rooted your phone. i have reciueved many PM's about how to do this and as much as i am willing to help you, i expect you to have SOME common sense, if you do not i will not help
sorry man, didn't mean to piss you off, i stated im a newbie, i have the firm belief that nobody learns unless they try it themselves, albeit some help from others never hurts, + the version checker is on rc33, not rc29, hence i cannot take that route, if not i already would have. i guess ill simply continue to wait, phone works fine, just does not load any apps that have to be paid for on marketplace, i work for t-mobile, so im hoping that they may have stopped ota's of rc33 since we are launching 1.5 soon. quick question for those who know, is the build number supposed to be TC4-RC29 115247? this is the one i have. Thanks man!
+ I followed your instructions to a t. and have the classic "rainbow" android boot screen.
What happend to the sticky?? I culd have sworn this was stick yesterday.. PS thanks for this thread as i had to unroot my first g1 now i might have to do my second one .. argg..
Alternate way to revert to stock firmware without waiting for update
Hello,
This is my first post. I have been using an alternate way that I figured out to return to stock. This also works when you try to install an official update and it rejects the package due to invalid keys or device checks. You MUST already have root on your phone for this to work.
1) download official firmware image (whatever version you want)
2) extract recovery image from package to root of SD card
3) rename downloaded package to update.zip and place in root of SD card
3) reflash recovery image from terminal on rooted g1
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd sdcard flash_image recovery recovery.img
cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img
4) Restart phone in recovery mode and proceed with update
5)Profit! Well, stock g1 without having to flash to RC29 and wait for an update.
I feel this is a more straightfoward way to flash back to stock. YMMV.
Im running Android Revolution and now I would like to flash the recomended radio. However i do not have eng s off so fastboot flash radio radio.img does not work for me.
After reading the effen manual, what i understand is that to flash a new radio I need to
1. rename the desired radio zip file to rom.zip
2. place it in the romzip folder
3. open hack ace cmd menu and select to install my own radio
Heres where im confused. When I follow the link provided to here the instructions seem to conflict each other.
Ive studied this as much as I can over the past two days but havent found much solid info.
I also tried using visionary b4 I even flashed the AR ROM but it did not work.
Could someone confirm that it is as easy as stated above or if im wrong please help a brother out. I just need to flash the recommended radio and havent found a solution im confident with. Please and Thanks to anyone who can help me out.
I personally go by the instructions from the link you provided. Just rename the zip, put it in the root of.your SD card, and flash via hboot. And that's it.

no no no
this is how it's done for me, minus the links needed to flash the radio, as they are not mine.
You should also flash the matching RIL file (radio interface layer) that HTC pushed out with this new radio. Here are the steps to do all of this:
Below is a link to my dropbox folder containing the P98IMG.zip file containing the new radio. Download this file to your computer. Now we need to check to make sure the file didn't get corrupted during the download process (extremely slight chance of this happening, but we don't want to flash a corrupt file to your phone and risk bricking it). Download md5.exe from below and run it, and browse to the P98IMG.zip you downloaded. The MD5 hash it displays should match this number exactly:
33BAEBAD8B1E7A20F4603AFF0BA66468
You can paste this number into the MD5 program so you can compare them.
Now that we've verified the file is good, copy this file to the root of your SD card and reboot your phone into bootloader mode. Once you're in the hboot/bootloader screen, select bootloader and wait a few seconds and it will automatically find the .zip file and then prompt you to proceed. This process is what flashes the new radio, it takes about 20 seconds or less. Once it's done, reboot into your ROM like normal. Go into settings>>about phone and check your radio version; it should now show 26.06.06.30.
Now we need to flash the matching RIL file. Download the file below and copy it to your SD card. Don't worry about checking the MD5 hash. Reboot your phone into clockwork recovery mode, and then select install zip from sdcard>>choose zip from sdcard then select the RIL .zip file and flash it. Reboot back into your ROM. We are done! Let me how it works for you. You might give it a few days before making any decisions, it seems like some ROMs need to adjust to new radios/RIL files before the battery life settles down to normal (that is my experience anyway).

My goal is to flash the radio recommended for AR HD. I did so by moving it to root of sd and hboot. But i dont think it took becasue baseband does not match up. It stayed the same after two tries. I would really like to follow the devs instructions for the radio. However I cant seem to successfuly flash it.
NARRRRRRRRRRR did you even read what i typed?
direct instructions
Dude my bad man. Is this the radio for AR HD...radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 ? the numbers did not match up. I dont see a link for your dropbox though? I really apologize for being dense if i am and I really appreciate your quick reply and patience. thank you
We are going to need more specifics on what you did. But following wdkingerys instructions are exactly what you need to do
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
What I did was
1.rename the radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 (radio recommended by dev) to PD98IMG.zip
2.boot into hboot it found it i got the progress bar on the right had side it took about 5 seconds or so
3. Then i went into fastboot to select power down and then i turned it back on
I want to follow your directions but I dont see the dropbox links. Like i said earlier I really appreciate your patience
Ok I checked out the AT hd thread and yes 12.54. Is the recommended radio. Wdkingery mentioned the stock ATT radio. When you check the radio/baseball in about phone what does it say? It should match to what your trying to flash
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
Thats what I thought but it doesnt. I went in the IRC (dont remember which) and have gotten a copy of everything wdkingery said and will follow his instructions. It currently says baseband# 12.28b.60.140eP_26.03.02.26
-i think the problem was that the AR HD recommended radio is for a DHD not sure
I've flashed dhd radios, so that shouldn't be the problem. Though in my case the dhd radios were never as good as stock. Again that was me as plenty of others have gotten better results with other radios. It more of a trial an error in my opinion and flashing radio does have its risks so I tend to stay away.
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
I think your right, apparently that radio required eng s off and again thank you.
Im now rockin 06.06.30 and about to load the RIL. Will follow up with results
Got the RIL installed and im good to go speedtest.net app shows 3 down 1 up. Not great but im gonna bet thats more to do with the tornados that just came through here. The network has been iffy throughout the city anyways. Also ill follow the advice given to wait a couple days b4 makin any real judgments. Thank you again to both of you guys. I think ive managed to get my head wrapped around this a little better.
Glad I could help . I think I might have figured it out . I downloaded the 12.54 radio and compared it to my stock zip. The AR ZIP does not contain Android Info text file. This is the first time I've ever looked I.side the zip, so.this is new to me. I believe this file is needed in the zip. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
So from reading the flashing radio thread. They state to replace the radio images (with the one you want)so the txt file is probably important and hence it not working for you.
You should try out the stock like you said, and see if it works for you. If not I with this new Info, we should be able to get you on 12.54
On a slightly different note. Eng s-off is not needed. And is even riskier than hboot, trays why many devs prefer the hboot method
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
Great thank you. I might still want to try 12.54 in the future so ill keep that in mind. I would like to know exactly why one radio is better than the other anyways so for now im happy with this one. I was in the AR HD irc for a while but couldnt get anyone. Ill get to the bottom of it sooner or later. Thanks again
Hi,
Apologies if I am in the wrong forum but I am a 2 day old Desire S/Android user looking to check my understanding and get a small push in the right direction on a few things.
I have 2 initial objectives with my phone:
1. Remove the T-Mobile branding (e.g. at start-up, etc)
2. Install the Android-RSAP app to enable me to use the phone with my in-built car kit
If I try and sort out the branding issue first...
I'm assuming that the T-Mobile branding means that I have their branded version of the generic HTC ROM, so to remove it I need to place flash the generic unbranded ROM which is located in the Developer forum? I'm not at this stage looking for any custom ROMs, just the generic HTC one will be fine whilst I get to grips with Android.
If I am correct in needed to do the above, I've got the phone S-off and installed the Gingerbreak exploit which has created a Superuser app (not exactly sure what I need to do with these now if anything). I have also downloaded ROM Manager but again don't know what to do with it yet.
I have had some great support off MarylandCookie (big thanks) so far to get me where I am now but can anyone confirm that I am going along the right lines with the above and what my next steps should be.
Any views much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Damian
Yes, you're right. Get the ROM from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506 . I think that the last one, WWE is the one you need. Since you're already S-OFF and rooted, all you have to do is open ROM manager, flash the ClockWorkMod recovery. Then go to INSTALL ROM FROM SD CARD and flash the WWE ROM.
Thanks - I'm guessing that it is the one below that is the generic one:
RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.1_Radio_20.28b.30.080 5U_38.03.02.11_M_release
Can anyone confirm?
Thanks

You're right. This is the unbranded ROM - see this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13614583&postcount=38
Thanks for the clarification.
Where can I get the zip file need to flash this ROM via ROM Manager. I've download the .EXE but this seems to be to install via PC only and I can't seem to get to the zip I need to put on the SD card to flash.
Or is it easier to just install via the .exe and forget about Rom manager?
Any help appreciated as I'm keen to get to the generic stock ROM.
Thanks,
Damian
Hi,
Can anyone advise on whether it is best to install the generic rom via the installer or somehow get the zip file and install via ROM Manager.
Is one a safer approach or is it if you use the installer you need to re-root, etc.
If it is better to use ROM Manager, does anyone know how I can get the zip file from the .exe.
Many thanks,
Damian
How did you get your phone s-off, did it just come like that?? or did you use the XTC clip.
Thanks
Make sure your Phone is connected to the pc than:
Start installer
Click next
Click next
Go to your temp folder
Sort folders on date
Pick the most recent and look inside one of that folders for rom.zip
p.s. this is from my head, so not exaclty sure if its rom.zip but i thought it was, GL
not my words, found this on the link to the rom you need in the second post
I would do it with the method described in post 4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078497
Gold card method worked perfect for me. Now happily running stock 2.10 with Sense 3.0.
Hello, first I would like to apologize as I am clearly a noob and have very little idea of what I am talking about.
I'm sure my problem has been asked before and that if I had any idea what the problem was, I could find the exact solution I need here on the forums. Unfortunately I don't even know what to search for. If any one would like to complain go ahead but please..just help me.
So I decided to root my HTC Sensation, which I believe I did without any problem, I followed the guide on this site. Nothing went wrong and as far as I was aware everything was working fine.
I then decided to flash a new ROM onto the phone. I chose the Android Revolution HD as this looked to be the popular choice. I got it from here and I believed I had followed the instructions on how to install it properly.
However, after installing the ROM I came upon a problem, the phone would not start, it would just go to the HTC boot screen and stay there forever. At first I couldn't even get back to the hboot screen, but after inserting a new and better charged battery I was able to get there, but every time I do it attempts to update and says " CID incorrect! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot." and I cant do anything but get stuck in this continuous loop.
If I take the SD card out I can access the HBOOT properly, however trying to do a recovery at this point doesn't seem to work.
I have no idea what to do and would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I would be happy to just have my phone back to the way it was originally.
Thanks
Might wanna try a RUU? not sure but hopefully it should do..

First off your MAJOR issue is that you flashed a rom for the Desire HD section(As soon as I clicked on your link, it said Android Revolution 7.0.2... I was like wtf? There is no 7.0.2 on the sensation forum) ... I think that's the prob... for now! Flash the correct rom and stay in the right section!
Second, I don't see why you can't get into recovery. Remove your sd card, power on the phone by holding vol-down +power to get to bootloader, select recovery and flash the right rom. I would also recommend that you delete the P58IMG.zip off your sd card as well. I'm assuming you have it on there for the ICS firmware but flashed the incorrect rom. You are far from bricking it, but keep this up and it might turn into one!
Thanks, your post is certainly reasuring though I am still not sure how to continue. Also it is possible I gave the wrong link to the rom I used, though it definitely was the same name.
Anyway what Im thinking I have to do now is 1st delete p58img.zip file from my SDcard and put the right rom on there, could you link to one?
So by removing that file I should be able to access the SDcard again and flash the new rom?

Here's the right link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
This is an ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) Rom
So you need:
1) SuperCID (so that you can flash any firmware)
Instructions
2) Flash the ICS firmware (otherwise you can't use the ICS roms)
http://goo.gl/RcbMy (and make SURE that there aren't any errors - errors such as not doing the SuperCID process correctly, therefore it can't flash - I say this because it seems like many users think the firmware is flashed and then find out their rom won't start, so don't be stupid and check whether or not an error has occurred just incase!)
3) Pick a rom
Revolution
Elegancia
Insert Coin
4) Flash the 4EXT recovery, I'm sure you already have clockwork mod on there but I think that's a bit buggier... so if I were you, I'd go for the 4EXT touch recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377759
5) If you wish, you can also flash for example: tweaks and addons by awsm devs which make our phone much better if you wish!
6) you're good to go! It's that easy.
Yeah, all you have to do is remove that P58IMG.zip from your sd card and your bootloader won't force you to update or w/e. You'll be fine.
And don't forget to md5 check for roms you download !
Sent from my HTC-Z710a using xda premium
Thank you very much. It seems I hadn't performed the SuperCID part. Once I had done that I installed Elegancia and it is working perfectly.
Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me.

I updated to ICS over the air through vodafone so i didnt have my phone rooted. I then came across the wifi and bluetooth problem so i thought i would unlock using HTCDEV method.
My phone is now unlocked but im unsure what to next!
My aim is to fix the wifi problem so what do i do.........
* UN UNLOCK MY PHONE THROUGH HTCDEV SO LOCKING IT BACK UP(IF THIS IS POSSIBLE) AND WAIT FOR A RELEASE THROUGH THE BETTER ROOTING METHODS FOR 1.27.0000
* PLACE A ROM ON MY UNLOCKED PHONE SO I REMOVE WIFI PROBLEM?
ANY OTHER OPTIONS.
I AM COMPLETLY NEW TO THIS BUT FAST LEARNER.
THANKS
You are not able to put another rom on you phone, as HTCdev dosent give you a complete S-off. You can however root it and put either Ext4 or Clockwork on it, and then root it.
Htc has allready put a patch out for the wifi problems, this you should get via OTA update.
For proper S-off, so that you are able to install custom roms you will have to wait untill Juopunutbear is released.

there is a new update 15mb one released by HTC itself to solve wifi issues and all..so we'll first try that or then we'll go with custom recovery method
here is the link where the update was available
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24841388&postcount=65588
its a flashable zip..so for that a custom recovery is required
have you got any custom recovery on your phone now?
(you can check it by going to boot loader(HBOOT) by pressing power + volume down button after switching off the phone)
you'll get a white screen which is HBOOT
and then choose recovery by using volume up/down buttons then press power
(just like enter) if there is an exclamatory mark with inverted triangle then you got stock recovery then you need to temporarily boot through custom recovery
first download the zip file to the root of the sd card
then
1.follow the steps from this guide to setup adb/fastboot
guide to install adb/fastboot
2.once that is setup get the recovery.img from 4EXT thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377759
try to get the smart flash on one...which is the one for you
3. then follow the steps from this sub heading "[ Update ] Alternative Method to Flash Boot.img for Custom Roms" (ignore the last 3 steps in the sub heading)
which is present in the earlier thread ive provided
4.flash the zip file that you've downloaded and kept in sdcard
using recovery
Hopefully the patch helped with your wifiproblem. However, if you want to go further you can install another rom, as long as it complies with the firmware, that you cannot change.
If you want to go further, you can take a look at this ( my post at the page)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298&page=35
as a supplement to TRKAAA's wonderful work
WiFi Error and Custom Roms
•S-OFF devices will not have that WiFi error . the following is for members who used htc dev to unlock bootloader instead of doing Revolutionary S-OFF .
•Unlock Bootloader using htc dev Unlock Method ( may or could void your warranty ) or Super tool ( if it is legal to use it ) and ( use htc drivers v3.0.0.7 )
•you can use a Custom Rom that uses a Custom Kernel ,and solve WiFi error ( while you still on htc dev unlock method , i.e NOT S-OFF ) by installing the Boot.img ( includes custom kernel ) bootloader
•if the Custom rom uses the Exact same version of htc Stock Kernel ,you will not have WiFi Error
•Wifi error is usually happens because of the kernel ( in your case it is because of kernel mismatch )
•in htc Method the Boot.img is still locked , Note that the Boot.img includes the Kernel
•the kernel is located inside Boot.img , and Also the kernel components ( when you install a rom ) are located in System \ lib \ modules . the Module Folder is a Kernel Folder . if there is a mismatch between kernel and kernel components you will have WiFi error
•a sample case , the Boot.img is still the htc stock Boot.img ( i.e it includes the stock htc Kernel ) , and you installed a custom Rom that includes a custom Kernel
•When the Custom rom is being installed it will not be able to replace htc Stock Boot.img ( i.e the Stock Kernel , because it is locked ) , But will be able to install kernel components System \ lib \ modules ( because it is Unlocked ) , and Here comes the kernel mismatch and the WiFi Error ( the Kernel is still the htc stock kernel , and the Kernel components are for a different custom Kernel )
I think this is what i need to do to get my wifi working again.
Only thing is i havent a clue where to start. I have unlocked through htcdev but that is as far as i have got.
were do i find the custom roms with the kernals needed to fix my wifi problem.
Please any step by step info into how to do all this and were to get downloads from would me much appreciated.
Please somebody could you tell me what to install and where to install it, these step by steps are confusing me!!!!!
