[Q] File Explorer does not start - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hi,
I have a problem - File Explorer and Bluetooth Explorer does not start on my Touch Pro
Is stock ROM, no mods on it.
Had File explorer extensions, that maybe made this problem, but i've removed it, restarted and still can not run File explorer. No error is shown.
Maybe someone had the same problem?

Re-install the extension; it must've jacked up some registry keys when you installed it the first time, and now you need the extension. It doesn't take up much space, anyway.

thanks, but it started working. havent done anything. dont know how.

[Q] ASTRO File Manager Problem

I am using Astro File Manager on Droid and my .APK files do not have a thumbnail attached to them any more. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling but nothing seems to help. I have verified that the "Show Thumbnails" is checked also. I am not rooted and running Froyo, would I have to reinstall Froya? Is there a fix for this?
Sounds like you might have to delete the file and then reinstall it and see if Astro will pick it back up. I had this issue when I did the manual update with 2.2 FRG01B for some reason but just deleted it and then reinstalled and it picked everything back up... now using FRG22D and no issues once so ever.
Cheers
I am having the same issue but its on my G2 and its stock ROM not rooted. I have astro 2.5.2 from market and it does not create thumbnail for .apk files although it does create thumbnail for pictures and stuff.
I see you say to delete "the" file, I don't know what you mean by that? Do you mean delete all the apk files and put it back in from my back up in the PC? or delete something else?
Please help because this is working fine on my Vibrant and they are the same files that are in the G2 now.
thanks!

problem installing APK

I'm a HTC Desire S owner. I've problem installing APK files. It shows "There is a problem parsing the package" when trying to install apk files in ES File Explorer. It only happens when the apk files are in SDcard. It don't happen when install apk files which are located in my PC thru WiFi with ES File Explorer. It don't work with ASTRO file manager either. But I can install with AndExplorer and can install from PC (with DroidExplorer). I mostly use ES file manager and wanna install with it. I'm currently using latest version of ES file explorer. I've already checked "Allow installation of non-market apps" in setting. It did not happen with Stock ROM. Happened while using Saga3D, I don't know what I accidently did. I change to new rom 'Virtuous Quattro (ICS) and it still occur. Now I'm on Hyperion and it is still happening. Please help me.

I cannot tell you the reason for this issue, but it's well known. just download the apk on your Pc and put on Sd card then.
And Sometimes you are downloading an corrupted apk, simply download the app somewhere else.
Sent by my fingers to your head.
They say this error is likely attributed to:
1) Some strange apk not fit for the device. so, try downloading compatible apk.
2) Problems with Dalvik cache. try wiping cache & dalvik cache.
The reason for this is that the app is not downloaded completely. The download may have been interrupted on your phone due to some reason. On PC, the apps are downloaded uninterrupted, so no parsing error.

Thanks. Good to know

This occurs in case of corrupted downloads, where the file is shown as completely downloaded but actually some bits are lost while downloading. Very common when the downloading is done on the phone itself. Try downloading via PC and then transfer the apk to the sd card and you should be fine. I came across this when downloading an apk from the xda site itself (in the app development forum i think) and everytime i tried downloading on the phone, i got a parsing error... but as soon as i downloaded on PC and transferred it to phone, it installed right away!
I'm sure APK file is not corrupt. I can install with AndExplorer but not with ES File Explorer. I reinstalled ES File Explorer, but still not working.

Well then i guess you can say goodbye to ES File Explorer and stick to AndExplorer if this solves your problem!
Whatever works for you man! At least you found a workaround...I used to go crazy when i got these parsing errors!!!
Or try a different memory card. I have a Kingston micro-SD which gave me sleepless night awhile.
apk Problem
Have tried to check your Android Minimum SDK Version you have at your Program ??
Check this file and check your device
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="19"
android:targetSdkVersion="20" />
I have faced this problem with old versions , and resolved it by changing the appropriate minSdkVersion

APK installation Astro File Manager issue
For me, the APK installer in Astro File Manager doesn't work atm.
I see a brief scanning popup window but then it disappears.
Until they fix it, it's best to avoid launching APKs from Astro File manager.
If you think your APKs installs are using Astro File manager as the default app, you need to clear it.
On a Samsung Galaxy S7, I had to
1. Settings > Applications > Application manager
2. More (Reset app preferences)
3. If you have Samsung Kids Mode installed, you need to run and reconfigure it (if you don't you'll get annoying popups because Kids Mode app is now unstable until you reconfigure it)
4. Return to ES File Explorer and launch the APK (if there are still issues, continue to step 5)
5. Go back to Application Manager (i.e. repeat step 1)
6. More (drop down menu on top right) > Show system apps
7. Scroll down and locate Package Installer
8. Set as default
9. Try again

[APP] CM9 Modified MMS apk

EDIT:
Reported as not working. =(
Hello,
scrolling through the forum and found this. Quickly read through it and it should work for most phones. Ill give it a try in a bit on my skyrocket with ICS.
Must have a Deodexed Rom installed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583232
trying it now
Make sure you do a back up before. It hasnt been tested w/ the skyrocket yet. I am doing a nandroid then applying it.
doesnt work, it opens, but crashes almost immediately, a freeze, then in 30 seconds force closes...it looks sooo nice though!!
How did you get it to install. I tried to copy it into the system/app folder and it wants to replace it, i hit yes, and it doesnt replace it... Getting frustrated.
rename the old Mms.apk to "Mms.apk.bak" and then paste the new "Mms.apk" onto /system/app/ and it will install, then reboot...
Trying to rename it and it keeps saying i dont have the rights. I used Root Explorer and when i hit the Ro/Rw button it wont change it to RW. Then i used ES File Explorer and i clicked the option to enable RW on /system but it still wont let me rename it. Using the ICS NexusMod BETA 3.
your system isnt writeable, flash a different rom, or different kernel..
Trying this on MHX 5.0 will report back shortly. Nope.
issue seems to me is that there are related files not just the apk, like for the VVM i pulled for someone else, they needed the jar and xml files i gave them too. we need someone with a nexus to go a search for mms in root explorer and give us everything.
Has anyone on Nexusmod tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574675
Uses CM9 framework... For some reason i cant get the stupid file to work. Keeps reverting back to the stock when i paste it. I fixed my permissions issue.
did you remember to change it to RW from RO in the top of root explorer?

System "semi" Writable?

I recently Wiped my Phone completely and decided to Re-Flash Viper 1.2.1.
I noticed a problem prior to re-installing but thought nothing of if since it wasn't crucial at the time.
In Root explorer, I am able to delete [i normally delete boot animations] system files but not add where I need to add. Example, I wanted to add a ringtone to my system/media/ringtones folder. I normally [for the last six years] could just copy and paste such files using a root file manager.
However, when I any these files to for example /system/customize/resource/ it doesnt add it. BUT IT DOES rename the file and save it under a dif folder.
Example. Tried copying-copy to-moving to "androidtwirp.mp3" from sdcard to /system/media/notifications and a message pops up saying"notificationsandroidtwirp.mp3 successfully copied-moved to" and it saves notificationsandroidtwirp.mp3 to /system/media/ and it stays there. retrying from that location only results in "notificationsnotificationsandroidtwirp.mp3".
So not only does it rename the file but it saves it in the wrong location. I am at a loss for word. I tried the basics to tryand fix this but i cant seem to hit it on the head.
Thanks!
Edit: Not updating Super SU app, file explorer seems to have worked. Will attempt to duplicate problem to see what actually caused.it.
FOUND IT!
Updating my ES File explorer broke my system writing ability. DO NOT UPDATE is because when you do...
Any file you move, copy/paste to the system will not work properly.
This first happened when I tried to copy and paste a boot animation after I updated ES root explorer. It would rename whatever file i was trying to paste/move/copy over and save it under a sub folder.
example.
copying a ringtone [i.e. androidtwirp.mp3] from SDCard to System folder, the path is /system/media/audio/ringtones/ and it would rename it "ringtonesandroidtwirp.mp3" and save it under /system/media/audio/.
So basically not only was it renamed [which i didnt want it to be] but it would save it to the folder before the actual folder i needed it to be in, plus it would corrupt the file deeming it useless.
moving "ringtonesandroidtwirp.mp3" into the correct folder would only result in "ringtonesringtonesandroidtwirp.mp3"
this happened across the board with all files being moved around
The ES File Explorer version 1.2.1 comes with works flawlessly so don't update it.
I uninstalled ES [also any folders in SDcard related to it] and downloaded JRummy's root explorer and everything is back to normal except i have to reboot the phone to see files [like ringtones and notifications] that i added to the system.
I think it has something to do with our devices having an unlocked bootloaader, but still S-ON. There's S-OFF in the Dev section now if you really need to write to the system folder a lot.
I came from the Vibrant so I know what you're going through
Yeah, im on a low hboot so s-off might not be in my plans since I can practically flash what I want but it was ES file explorer, when I updated the apk the root permissions broke when writting to the system. I emailed the dev and they said they'd have it fixed on the next update.

Question Cant copy files in to Android/Data/

Hi All,
Just got my pixel tab and I need to push some config files in to Kodi's app data folder but am getting permission denied and cant use any file explorers on the tab to copy, same issue.
Have googled a bit and tried some of the workarounds, set my file explorers to allow system modifications under the app info page and still no dice.
Anyone have a working workaround for this? I primarily bought this thing to run Kodi on, so if I cant do something as simple as this with it... I wont be happy.
TIA
EDIT: Managed to use Kodi's internal file explorer to copy the config files, but question still stands if anyone has an answer, sure I will need to do something similar in the future.

Unless you're rooted, the only app that can access an app's data folder is the app (Kodi in this case).
