Hey guys,
You know how laggy the Galaxy Tab contact app, music player, and browser (especially the browser.. it's such a pain in the butt) can be, and I was wondering if it was possible for you to use the Galaxy S apks for those??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712594
someone uploaded every single galaxy s apk here, so maybe if you download it to your tab, it could possibly work??
it should work but im not 100% for sure.
i know that the email.apk from the galaxy tab works on the galaxy s. so why not reversed
Im using music player 3.0 on tab and sgs along side standard, ill add apk now for ya to try out. You want browser aswell?
Sent using my Galaxy TAB via XDA App
Sure, that'd be great! Thanks a million
ive put you contacts 1.0 from sgs and music player 3.0.... i know music player works cos i have it on both tab and sgs but not tried contacts (tab uses 2.2 but sgs is 1.0)
if you want any other sgs apks just ask and ill extract for you.....
Contacts just FC, but the music works..
Yeah i wasnt sure what would happen cos i dont use contacts on my tab as its sin free so i just tether from my sgs and share data connection but i know music player works a treat....

I really dont have any issue with all of those apps.
It is none the less related to the fact that I'm on JMC firmware.
It is not the APKs at all but more related to the firmware.
The browser in JMC is silky smooth compared to the stock firmware's browser.
Instead of trying to port these apks not designed for the tab flash your tab to a better firmware and never worry about looking back.

Do you know where I can get the JMC firmware? And also, would that affect my warranty? Sorry -- I'm such a noob lol.
Does Music Player 3.0 have notification bar controls?
If not is it possible to get 1.1.1 on the tab?
I tried installing it but it fc's before loading anything...

Hey, I'm trying to find a way to set default useragent to desktop in the stock browser. I saw the thread regarding this for Samsung Galaxy Tab, but entering about:debug doesn't work for me on my SGS II. I don't really like dolphin browser so much and I'd like to get this working on the stock Chrome browser without having to go through about:useragent every time... Any ideas?

what stock apps are not good?
I was told to upgrade internet browser. I heard the best choices are either "opera" or "dolphin." Never used either of these on my computer. I use Firefox and it's the best. But it looks like the Firefox mobile is poorly rated.
What about the music player?
any others you suggest?
I am rooted.
anyone suggestions???
Anything a stock phone comes with, that isn't removable, or can't be replaced, isn't good. Usually. The stock browser on ICS, however, is wonderful.
I've read that opera is good, but I use DolphinHD. Much better than stock.

doesn't a different launcher consume more battery life?
also I am froyo 2.2.2 if anyone needs to know.
bump for more suggestions
I recommend using ADW for a launcher and Handcent for a messaging app, they're both loads better than the stock apps.

What Stock apps are not good? Totally depends on you, whether you use them or there maybe some rom apps we don't even touch at times. You can remove them by rooting your phone and using some app like Titanium-Backup for removing those.
Well maybe launchers consume more battery but if you wanna get a new UI look its definitely a worth adding app.
And about the browser. Well I'll suggest you to go with DolphinHD or Opera.
Though Chrome will be my preference but Its available only for ICS4. So for the meanwhile you can go with DolphinHD or Opera.
there are 2 versions of both opera and dolphin, both highly rated on android market. Which is better?
I have froyo 2.2.2 and I am rooted. I will upgrade to stock gingerbread when I figure out though. if that helps.
My suggestions would be DolphinHD, go with that!
And I assume, your phone Optimus 3D has got Gingerbread 2.3 update rolling.

it does but I was hesitant to move over. People said it was buggy.
now looking at the forum everyone says it's amazing.
I am rooted and I need to get unrooted. I want gingerbread now.
looking for more suggestions!
I use the fire fox mobile browser because I use it on my PC,I like having my bookmarks synced.

My recommendations
Well I use Opera for movbile sites and Dolphin for any diesktop site i need to access on my phone !!
For music app u can use the MIUI app ! it is amazing
but if u r froyo go for song bird !! i just love that app
ok I got dolphin HD. It is a million times better than stock one and seems a bit faster.
I also got winamp for music player, but honestly I see no improvement over stock player. The album art on both winamp and stock player is low quality, when the actual images on the phone or my computer are HD. That annoys me. sound quality / speed no difference. probably will uninstall winamp.
I also got Go Launcher. I googled a few threads between go launcher, adw, and launcher pro. I will test this one out if I am happy I will keep it.
thanks
For browser try Dolphin or Maxthon. Dolphin looks better but Maxthon's tabs are better than Dolphin's.
For music player, player pro is beast. MIUI music player is good too.
For launcher, go launcher is the most customizable of all that I've tried but is bloated and slow. Alternatives are adw and launcher pro. The ones that I like though are Nemus and 360 launcher. Both are light and smooth. I'm using 360 right now. Take note though that it's still in beta if ever you try it.

Why?
Why do manufacturers put stock apps which users cant un-install?
stock apps too much using ram , so your rom will be laggy
Hey there,
for music i use the mort player. good for music and audio books.
my internet browser is opera. i use it on my pc so a can link the browser on my phone with the one on my pc

mini-app is a unique thing to the Galaxy Tab 2, so it would have to be developed as a mini-app.Right now, the only mini-apps that are available are the Samsung ones. because it is a proprietary of samsung (like the IR blaster) so the only thng you can do is port it. but it requires touch wiz ux frame work so the whole rom should be ported and it is a difficult thing.
It'ss impossible because it need Samsung's framework that' diferent from Android original (CM9 one)
Could always DL equivalent min apps and use something like sidebar launcher to launch them. Tiny apps has a few like floating apps like calc, notes, and music controls. Also their is floating browser, popcorn player, and many more.
Screen with sidebar launcher, and some floating apps running

for the galaxy s2 there is a multi window mod. Maybe we coud install it also on our tab 7+. because it has the same exynos chip.
i could´t test this because for my wifi only tab 7+ is no jelly bean yet.
but if it does not fuction maybe a dev can port it also to the tab 7+.

+1 for this. Although apps like Overskreen, Floating Browser and etc exists, it would be great if it was integrated to one app(MultiWindow).

Is there a lot of interest for this, or are there alternatives?
Is there a lot of interest for this, or are there alternatives that people/Devs are preferring?
I like the Multiwindow function on my S3, and would really like to see it or something similar on a Galaxy 7" tablet. I want to use it to run a GPS routing App & a Music App at the same time, while running WaveControl in the background. It works great on the S3, but I feel that ~half the screen is too small to be used well for GPS. So, I have had a GT+ for a while, but sold it until I can find which of the two (GT+ or GT2) will get MultiWindow or similar.
I have seen the Overskreen, but that's Browser only. I've seen the floating Apps, but that seems to be specific Apps, and part of the main App gets covered up by the floater. So neither seems to be able to replace Multiwindow, unless there's a way to make any App a floating App.
Any thoughts/ideas?

All your options are really not going to happen, but one day, in the future, after we get full stable releases for more models of the 7+, someone will port over the multi-window stuff that is form the Note 2 / S4 that is in custom ROMs for the S3. Lets get stable stock ROMs for all the G+ models first
.Android currently is not built to handle floating window, its a real hack just to get a browser to float.

Alright, sounds good. I'm hoping that we do get multi-window when the stock ROMs are fully fleshed out. I was also trying to gauge what ROM developers were going for, whether Multi-Window or Floating Apps were more relevant to them. Supposedly there was one ROM that had Beta multi-window, but the developer seems to have dropped that in favor of the floating option. I just don't see it as a viable replacement, at least not yet.
Apart from my 7 plus tab I own a Samsung galaxy grand that has 1 gb of ram and a 1.2 ghz double core processor (like our 7 plus), and it has multi windows option out of the box (jb 4.1.2), which means that it's doable for our tab. It's a matter of editing the main flashbar.apk, and some framework files.
Easier said than done, yes, I know...:silly:
I just pulled the main flashbar apk and the multi windows related frameworks and permissions from my galaxy grand and pushed them into my tab (p6210 running pa 3.15).
I rebooted, the apk installed, and I saw on my task manager that it was on, good sign.
But (there is always a but) I had nothing to trigger it. On the galaxy grand there is a multi windows icon next to the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS etc icons on the status bar, but obviously no such icon on the tab.
To get one such icon one needs to edit some jars in the framework folder, and maybe the system ui apk as well. I could do it if I had plenty of time (because I'm still relatively new to those things) but unfortunately I don't have much time in the moment.
If anyone wants to do it just tell me and I'll upload the files here...

Thanks for trying! By the way, the ported multiview on my Sprint Galaxy SIII is activated by holding down the back button. Could you try that? I don't know if it will work since on the S3 it is basically a hardware button, but just in case.
I tried, without much hope because I'm on pa 3.15 and as you may know the multi windows app works only with the TW framework (pa doesn't use TW ui). And guess what, it didn't work. I tried as well to trigger the app with smart taskbar, multi windows manager and a couple of other apps but nope, no fun...
I had a closer look at my galaxy grand and in some drawable folders I found the multi windows icons and triggers. One would need to add these files to the G plus systemui.apk and framework.apk, and add/remove some lines to some jars and stuff.
It's doable and I probably could do it, but I won't, for the sole reason that I own a p6210 and that jb hasn't been released for that model yet, sorry...
If you know how to decompile/recompile then try this, it works on the S2 and it may work on the G plus:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024227
But don't forget to do a nandroid back up before, in case something gets messed up...
Maybe this is working on our tab
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34891499
Is sombody able to do this and give a report?

Its not a full rom just a flashable mod but u do have to be on a DEODEXED version...it is completely safe just makes it easier to change theme & mod but as always please read the instructions carefully and be sure to backup your device before flashing. Since I'm assuming u own a P6200 then u will need the original MC3 firmware as well as chrisrotolo's deodexed MC3 zip installed before u flash the multi window mod. Yes, tethering works & the phone function does too BUT u may have to download another dialer from the play store(i'm using ex dialer & contacts) if the samsung phone app wont open
