[Q] Help - Need to Root Archos 101, firmware 2.0.71 - General Questions and Answers

Anybody out there been able to Root their Archos 101 with firmware 2.0.71?? I have a windows based phone and need to run the Ad-Hoc Networking hack to get the tablet to recognige my phone's 3g cellular internet connection.
I know that you can do Bluetooth tethering, but my phone and tablet will not pair up correctly(I think it is a windows mobile 6.5 thing)
If anybody has figured out how to install an older firmware, I would go for that too. I think the 2.0.54 was rootable.
Thank you

I was wondering the same thing z4root does not seem to work even for a temporary root .
I wabt 2.0.54 back i am sick of my tablet running at 800mhz

You can actually set your Archos in 2.0.71 to 1Ghz without root.
Click on setting, about device, power management.
Click on Overdrive.
It will then be clocked at 1Ghz
It makes a HUGE difference in performance, and the battery life is still good.

[Q] Boot android Honeycomb on standard laptop - is it possible?

I have done some searching but couldn't really find any good answers to my question.
I would like to know if it would be possible to have android honeycomb as the main boot os for my laptop which I would want to then link directly to my TV for the picture output.
Has anyone ever tried anything like this?
How do i go about it if it is possible, I have read about the android live CD boot for PC's but these look old, will they work for Honeycomb, and wouldn't it be better to have it directly running from the harddrive.
Another concern of mine is would honeycomb os on a PC use the mouse and keyboard inputs with no touchscreen being possible / available, and would the USB / cdrom, TV outputs, wireless and network cards etc all be recognised and useable by Honeycomb?
That's a very good idea, I'd like to know more about this

For such purpose (Android as TV set top box) I would rather use some Hardware like i.e. BeagleBoard. There's also an Android port available (http://code.google.com/p/rowboat/) which is currently running FroYo. I'm sure there will also be Gingerbread, Honeycomb, etc. in the future.
I would rather not purchase new hardware if I don't need to. I have this laptop doing nothing and want to put it to use this way if possible.

I would like to know the answer for this question too
i'm a fan of bigscreen
i plan to purchase acer iconia 6120 dual screen laptop if somehow i can manage to get honeycomb installed on standard laptop
or maybe later with windows 8
hmmm, yummy
I think Honeycomb still needs to use the touchscreen now and then, even with a keyboard and mouse. You might want to try Chrome OS, since that's designed for laptops.
err, acer iconia 6120 is a dual touchscreen laptop
you got laptop hardware but both touchscreen with virtual keyboard
thats why i brought up honeycomb, since its touch based
and windows 8 prolly in the future
Since a view weeks there is an Acer Aspire One with Win 7 Starter and Android as dualboot.
Maybe it is now possible to get Android on standard Notebooks?!

iam realy interessted in this, so umpup:
is it possible to run a honeycomb as main boot on a laptop? because why booting win and co if u just wanna check some emails, vistit some websites and i dont know ( yeah i know u can do this all with your smartphone, but wouldnt it be exiting to have it on your laptop too ? )
I have an old laptop and would love to have Android running on it, also my TV is running a customized version of Linux, i wonder if it would be possible to incorporate Android OS into it too. It's a Philips TV and some of their newer models are Android based.
Last weekend I got some Toshiba netbook (Nvidia Tegra chipset) on my hands running Froyo. A normal screen (no touch) and a keyboard just like normal netbooks. It was a pain in the a** to work with. I don't think Honeycomb will change that, since it's optimized for tablets. However, a combination of a touchscreen and a hardware keyboard would be nice, though.
Anyway, it should be possible to run Android on x86 devices, too, but I don't see any point for doing so. Why not just install Ubuntu?

[Q] USB Tethering - Android phone to Android Tab?

I have a Tmobile G2 and may be getting an Android tablet soon, a Toshiba Thrive is at the top of my list.
Is it possible to tether an Android tablet to an Android phone, by USB cable for internet access? The goal is to avoid being charged for tethering, and I think it should work the same way for Tmobile & AT&T - USA. I assume WIFI tethering is more of a problem - avoiding the tethering charge.
Thanks!!!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I don't know if you can use the USB tethering, but I do the following:
I've got an Creative ZiiO 7" which doesn't support 3G. So when I'm in a area without WiFi but with network coverage, I connect my ZiiO with my Desire Z via the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
I don't know if it's a useful data point, but I just got a ASUS SL 101 running Android 3. So far it is refusing to work with USB tethering, though the WiFi tethering is working most of the time. Both of these are with an HTC Aria (which is a different sad story, but my contract still has a year on it). I don't yet know what is the problem with the USB tethering. I checked with salesmen in several stores and they thought that USB tethering would work with Android tablets, but they might be wrong, or there might be something wrong with the ASUS device. I regularly tether the phone to Windows 7 and XP and also to several versions of Ubuntu Linux. The phone has problems, but the tethering usually works okay.
P.S. By the way, overall I am not that favorably impressed with the ASUS SL 101. I hope I'll grow into it, but...
P.P.S. I looked at the Toshiba Thrive you mentioned. It seemed to have some nice points, but I just didn't like it that much. The store where I made the purchase had about 10 different tablets, and as of today, I rather think the Sony might have been the one I should have gone with.

[Q] Versus Touchtab 10.1 DC info needed

Hi Gurus,
Does anyone have any information about the Versus touchtab 10.1 dual core with android 4.1? I have just ordered it and am waiting for delivery.
http://www.johnlewis.com/231888577/Product.aspx
It has a pretty decent spec including the RK3066 SoC and 1 GB ram with a IPS screen.
I was wondering if it is possible to root it or even better flash it with cyanogenmod??
I understand it is a generic Chinese tablet that has been rebranded as Versus and I think also CnM touchpad. Does anyone know the "master" tablet model number?
Thanks,
hopoffbaby
Hi,
Yea that'd be great. I really love the performance of this tablet for be the price but would love to get a custom rom on it. Have you noticed any issue with wifi when the screen has been off? Mine doesn't like to reconnect. I have to toggle airplane mode to get it connected again.
Thanks
Hey,
I just picked up the 10.1 touchtab from Maplins yesterday, I've also noticed the issue with the wifi not wanting (or taking a long time) to reconnect after the screen switches off, the wifi also seems to be considerably weaker than on my other devices!
Samuel
Hi,
I don't notice an issue with wifi strength and but it often won't reconnect. I have sent them an email regarding this so if they come back to me with a solution I'll be let you know.
Thanks
Thanks, do keep me updated!
Just incase anybody is interested, I'm 99% sure the CnM 10.1 touchtab is the same as the versus touchtab so some useful downloads can be found here: www_kmscomponents_com/cnmlifestyle/products/touchPad10DC.htm#down
(apologies as I cant yet post links)
Nexus 10
I think the best 10" tablet is the Nexus 10, and it's not bad prized i think you should consider that option.
Granted the nexus 10 is a nice tablet but it's twice the price of this tablet which I already have so don't think I'll be buying that. I already have a galaxy nexus phone which does me nicely.
Ideally would like to root this tablet or flash custom rom. If I don't manage to get the wifi working properly though it might have to go back.
Hi.
Great thanks for the files. Hope you u make some progress with rooting it. I don't really know how to manually root these things. I generally just use tools other brain boxes have written Lol. Would really like to get a ROM like cm on it though
What is the sort of processes you'd normally follow to root something with no tool available?
On another note I still haven't heard back about my WiFi issue however I notice if you go into the advanced WiFi settings you can set it to never release WiFi when the screen is off which seems to have fixed the issue so far.
Cheers.
Hi guys,
I just had a reply from Versus (CnM) stating that upgrading the firmware should solve the wifi issue. I'll give this a go tonight (hopefully the flash tool likes windows 8) and see what happens :fingers-crossed:
Hi there,
There is a new firmware on our website www.versusuk.com if you follow the instructions to upgrade your tablet this will resolve your problem.

Quick Versus root tutorial
I just purchased (yesterday) a Versus 10.1 DC from Maplins to and want to use it as a media player when I go away. With so many films in MKV format being bigger than 4GB, the only way I could see films this big was to root it to be able to read NTFS drives.
I followed the same route to root (pun there ) as zoranuk [cheers for that] but started by follwing the guide to install the right drivers first as supplied by user154 [cheers for that too]
So here's what I did and it rooted 1st time:
Installed the correct drivers as per the Vesus Touchpad - USB Debugging Setup Guide.zip earlier in the thread by user154
I then looked at the link supplied by zoranuk
I downloaded the Chinese Android manager application as mentioned on the page above.
Now here's where it can become confusing as it is all in Chinese!
Do not connect Versus yet but have USB Debugging already selected on tablet
Run ZhuoDaShi on loading
it will bring up this window
View attachment 1796599
click where the arrow is pointing
that will bring up the next
View attachment 1796600
again onto
View attachment 1796601
now attach the usb, after a minute or so then click
View attachment 1796602
again click the link
View attachment 1796603
this will root your Versus
I am not taking any credit to this just putting it all in one place, and hopefully get others rooted
cheers
Ian
yes that rooting works great..thanks

I carried out the firmware update on the 8DC and now it won't. It just gets stuck during the root process. So unless anyone has any other advice, give the new firmware a miss if you want to stay rooted.
On another note, has anyone had their ZhuoDaShi update to a new version with a new icon automatically? It also installs some other rubbish as well if you let it!

[Q] android noob please help

okay so here's the deal. I recently bought an off-brand tablet that i have never heard of, it is a maxwest 7370 tablet. I have a joke about it i call it a samsing lol. It seems like a good deal, it came with a 7" screen, 1.2 gigahertz dual core ,800 some odd mb of RAM, 8 gigs of storage, HDMI output, microSD slot, and Flash support, it runs on jelly bean 4.2.2 It was only one hundred and seventy dollars. And I'm happy with it so far but on the other hand I have had no success even finding this model of tablet on the Internet. Today I attempted several times at rooting this device with no success. I use software downloaded on my laptop one called kingo root the other was one click rooting. the only thing I was planning on using the rooted tablet for was supporting interface with my playstation 3 sixaxis controller. If anyone can help me figure out how to root this or just pairing my controller it would be greatly appreciated. I don't know much of anything about Android or rooting them but I would love to unlock more potential out of this thing! I use it mostly for fun but maybe some listening and learning will allow me to do much more.

CustomROM for my tablet

Hello guys, I would like to know if anyone could help me.
I have a tablet that I received at school once. But Android of it bricked, and I do not find the original ROM of it, but wanted to arrange a way to make it work again, even with a custom ROM.
Every time I turn it on, all system components start to stop working.
His model is Multilaser MLX1, he owns an android 4.2.2, he does not have 3G, just WIFI. Its processor is a dual core 1.2GHz.
It has 1 GB of RAM.
