[Q] Forums for Viewpad 7/10 - General Questions and Answers

I have recently been looking around for a decent community forum to take part in that focuses on the Viewsonic's Viewpad 7 and Viewpad 10, I am mainly interested in the 10 as this is the one I own, however they should probably be in the same section.
The viewpad 7 is a 7 inch froyo tablet and the viewpad 10 is an intel atom based device that dual boots win7(i realise you dont generally deal with devices with this os) and android 1.6.
These devices have only been around a short time and already have some development activity, Al sutton has put together a version of froyo for the viewpad 10
So could we get a new forum for these devices please?

viewpad 10
Does anyone have one of these?? My wife has one and would like to know what development if any has started on this.. like getting 2.2 as the android operating system instead of 1.6.

did you read my post?
I directly linked to the current 2.2 android froyo build for the viewpad check the link in the original post.

viewpad 10
Hi guys good day anyway i just bought a viewpad 10 and do anyone know how to remove the android os from the viewpad cause i only need the window os ??

Since you guys have bought one, I have a doubt.
Does the GPS works in Windows or atleast in Android ?
Does the Viewpad 10 has 3G ?

i have a viewpad 7
Hey guys, it would be great to have a dedicated forum for viewpad 7/10.
I have the 7" froyo since 2 weeks by now, its great!

I would love to see an android x86 forum (typing on viewpad 10 right now).. I love the pad in Windows mode but limitations android 1.6 on atom processors is awful. There is a clear need for xda-devs to embrace tablets as the two techs converge.
To answer the question of how to remove Android, I would boot into a linux live environment and delete the android partition, then increase the size of the windows partition. Obvious need to back up data beforehand!

Hi, how are you supposed to installed Windows 7 Service Pack onto the ViewPad 10.
It only has a 16GB hard drive, and the Windows 7 requirement is 16GB of free space.
After downloading the service pack I have 30MB left!, The pad cannot install the service pack.
Is this an oversight on Viewsonic's part?

try tiny7 http://www.davidtan.org/tiny7-tiny-windows-7-unattended-activated-iso-cd/ it is only 2.4GB installed, SP1 will likely make it a little bigger but nowhere near 16GB

Found forum on Tega site
On this url you can find some talks about viewpad 10 same as Tagav2.

Hi there
It seems to me that a dedicated forum on the viewpad is a good thing.

I just got an Azpen X1, which seems to be the same as the Viewpad 10. It has an Atom N455 CPU, and Win7 and Android 2.2 installed. The 16GB hard drive ran out of space when I did the first update!!
I too am looking for some place to discuss this tablet. I opened it up and took some pics of it. They can be seen here:
http://s563.photobucket.com/albums/ss71/aquacephalous/Azpen X1/

Yes they look really similar from the inside point of view. Changes should be upgrade of memory and upgrade in space disk. Could it be possible to insert a standard SSD inside ? Cheaper and bigger...

Not sure that it would be much cheaper, even if it would fit.
I found an exact replacement, but 32GB and 64GB sizes.

http://buy4ssd.com/shop/80-kingspec-sata-ii-motive-ssd-mlc-nand-flash-32gb.html
The 64GB one costs $162, where a standard one sells for $140 at NewEgg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139286
The sizes of the two, to compare:
Kinspec SSD Module:
W:1.5" x L:2.1" (39mm x 54mm)
Kingston 1.8" SSD:
W:2.1" x L:3.1" (53.1mm x 78.7mm)
I ordered the 32GB version from buy4ssd. It seems to be coming from Hongkong, so I hope that I actually get it!!

Honeycomb 3.2-x86
For those that prefer to use Android, there seems to be a 3.2 version for x86:
http://code.google.com/p/android-x86/downloads/list
It is listed as being for the Tega v2, but that appears to be very similar to the Viewpad 10 and Azpen X1:
http://www.tegav2.com/
My tablet has a 1GB partition with Android 2.2 on it. I'm not sure if it it is big enough for the 3.2 version.
Edit: I burned a CD and booted it in Live mode. It seemed to run pretty good on my Azpen X1. I used a USB CD drive to boot it.

Do you want to use the Android partition for Windows? You would need to do that inside of Windows.
I don't use Windows, so I can't help much. Look in the Administrative Tools section for Disk Manager. Windows doesn't support the filesystem that Android uses, so it will be listed as "unknown", or something like that.
Edit: In the Windows menu, type "Computer Management" in the search bar. When that comes up, select "Disk Management" on the left. Choose the partition you want to delete, right-click and select "Delete Volume...". Then right-click the Windows partition and select "Extend Volume...".
Make sure you don't delete the wrong partition!!

[Q] Future G-Tab possibility question(s)

So for a bit I've been looking into tablets, and the G Tablet seems like its the right one for me (great hardware, already a great amount of work from the Devs here on the system) so I think I'll be picking one up after the holidays.
My question though: I remember reading a week or two ago (when doing my initial research) reading somewhere that the G Tablet could run Windows 7 in the future. Is this true? I originally strayed away from Win 7 tablets because I know how much of a hassle they can be, and after putting Android onto my HTC Vogue I went towards a droid tablet. But I also realised that if I could get a Win 7 boot on the tablet also (like one of the other tablets out there with a dual boot) then that would be great to possibly run some of my graphic programs.
So, does anyone think/know if setting up a dual boot on the G Tablet is possible? Has anyone started thinking about developement on it already?
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to getting this tablet and getting it setup, and just wanting to get to know a little more about its future too.
Viewsonic is suppose to be coming out with a DIFFERENT tablet that can dual boot, but not the Gtab..
The Viewpad 10 is what they were coming out with. Don't know if it still is. The big issue for me is there is only Android 1.6 right now for the X86 cpu's. You also have to deal with fans, and the extra weight. I wanted a Windows 7 tablet but not so much anymore.

Yeah I know about that one, but strayed away from that because it was pretty much unavailable and more pricey (if memory serves).
I swear I remember reading it somewhere that the G Tablet would be capable of running Windows 7 in the near(ish) future, and I'm just trying to figure out if that is true or not.
Only if Microsoft rewrites Win 7 for the ARM processor and reduces the Bloat.
:-D I am sure at some point with all these Tegra 2 tablets someone will port Ubuntu onto the G-tab! This would be amazing considering all the tablet support that they have built into the recent netbook remix.

Now this interface on the g-tablet would be amazing!

Once we have kernel source, we'll be able to do it....
Ubuntu is a definite possibility since it runs on ARM and the Android kernel itself is Linux based. But, just like any kernel change, the devs would need the source so that's the biggest obstacle.

VPAD 10

I just won one of these things and it will be here tomorrow. I saw it only has 1.6 for android on it. Is there anyway to move it to honeycomb or at least anything newer then 1.6? I just want to know before I open it cause if not I will just take it to the store and get credit for it for a diffrent one.
First, this isn't the place to be asking this.
Second, the reason that the view pad can dual boot is because it has an x86 processor. I believe there may be x86 ports to froyo, gingerbread, etc but that's not what that tablet is about. The viewpad is a windows tablet that also dual boots android.

So android on this tablet was more of an after thought then? Ugh, windows on a tablet just sounds....weird I guess. I never thought of it as being friendly with it. But I will look into it more, sorry about posting here I saw another one here about the v10 and thought it was okay.
One questions, so your saying all the newer androids builds are x64?
no this forum is for the tegra 2 Viewsonic G-Tablet the arm based processor architechture.
Can I lock or just delete this then? I don't want to bug you mates in the wrong place.
since this was moved, can anyone help or point me?
We have 2 of them. They are decent devices for what they are. Nothing to write home about. They come with 1.6 but if you check out the x86 google group, there is a 2.2.1 for it. Looking for 2.3.x or 3.x myself. If not, I may have to make it myself.
I like it.

[Q] Windows 8/8.1 on Android tablet?

Hello everyone. I am new on this forum.
Is is possible to install Windows 8/8.1 on the Android tablet with 512 GB of RAM, 1 GHz single core/dual core processor?
I have full MSDN subscription which gives me both original Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 and I want to put them in the use. Since in the moment I don't have enough money to buy Surface RT, I want to buy some bad tablet that will be for me only for debugging Windows 8/ Windows 8.1 applications and to go on the internet.
If there is a way, please tell me.
REPLY
I have never heard of porting Windows to an android device. I really don't deem it possible with the specs you have described. But nothing is impossible. Right?

No way i think because totally diffrent os and kernels

ya, never heard about that at the moment
but for those devices which can use dual boot, it might works but not confirm
Maybe I won't be able to use Start Button because Android tablet doesn't have it, but I can use start from the Charm bar.
Also, I believe that those hardware specs would be ok if I turn of some processes and services so that tablet could run faster. As I have already said, that tablet would be only for the internet and the debugging (connect tablet with the PC and run the application on the tablet) and nothing else.I was thinking about USB booting, but I don't know if low end tablets have USB ports.
If those don't have USB ports, can I run the installation of Windows directly from the Android?
My tomtect excellent 10 has one full size usb and one otg usb

[Completed] windows desktop on phone

I'm looking for a phone I can buy that I can either dual boot or convert to run windows desktop - It can be xp, win 8.1 or 10. I have one desktop app I want to run on it. Prefer the screen not to exceed 5 inches. Can you direct me to the product and threads on how to do this?

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
In theory, many devices have the capability for this, through the QEMU emulator - a prerequisite is having a device that can meet the specs (particularly enough RAM - 3GB or more - and storage - 16GB device or better). Ultimately, this will be slow, and often (if not everytime), you can forget about sound or graphics acceleration like done through DirectX. So if your desktop app is a game, well, you will be out of luck.
I am aware of a phone for sure, but the screen may be too big for you (mind you, due to the bezels, it's a small 5.5" device). I came across the thread after I bought one myself. It's the ASUS ZenFone 2 (Z00A/551ML):
> Asus ZenFone 2 > ZenFone 2 General > ZF2 Running Windows 7, 8 & 10 using KVM
The ZF2 is an Intel device, so things run a little more natively than say, a Qcom device (performance should be improved as a result).
Any questions you may have about this device against the Windows VM can be asked in that thread.
Edit: There's this too, which would be a generic solution to other high-end devices (although the guide caps out at 32-bit Windows OS'es)
Finally, I should mention, that these are all band-aid solutions. The best solution is to find an Android-equivalent app to that desktop app you want on the phone. These days, depending on the purpose, it shouldn't be that hard.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Install new OS on unknown iPhone 7/8 plus clone

I recently bought a phone that I thought was an iPhone 8 plus. Turns out it was a clone, but has the case and 1 button of an iPhone 7 or 8 plus. I am trying to make the best out of a bad situation and put a good OS on it to see if it works better. TWRP seems like my best option (I'm open to other suggestions).
I don't know the manufacturer, but after plugging it into a Win 10 computer I was able to get Keytak 6580_weg_I. From what I understand that means a MT6580 chip, but I think I need to know the manufacturer to chose the right OEM. The phone is sealed and I can't open it to look at the inside for more details. Whats my next step?
I am extremely new to this world and don't know much about how to do any of this. I've done a lot of research but couldn't find any answers. Any support you can offer would be appreciated. Thank you.
So I've made some progress. I've rooted the phone and found that I have 1.5 gb of space, 4xARM Cortex-A7 @ 1.3 Ghz, Revision r0p3 (don't know what that is). Trying to figure out my manufacturer, but have come to a standstill. Any support is appreciated. Thanks.
