[Q] Just put Android 2.2 on my Captivate and... - Captivate General

and it is working fine on my phone (I used a AT&T release of it) I got 3 questions that I have:
1. I am on Rogers in Canada and since 2.2 hasn't been officially released here in Canada, when it does would I be able to put theirs on it no problem, or is it going to cause some issues since the phone will see that I already have 2.2 on it.
2. Has a way to remove the AT&T splash screen logo on the start-up been developed?
3. If I do a factory reset of my phone will it go back to 2.1 or will it stay on 2.2?

Please tell us exactly how and where you got Android 2.2 from AT$T since they have yet to release an official version as of yet.

More than likely referring to the 2.2 leak.

Yeah, that's what I figured, which is why I want him to clarify. I'm getting real tired of seeing posts about "official" Froyo releases that aren't.

Yea sorry it was the leaked version of it. And when I was saying offical I talking about the offical release in Canada

from the wiki: "Be aware when installing AT&T Firmware 2.2 and trying to recover to Rogers stock, you will have a short AT&T display on boot up. One way to remove this is to flash the phone with firmware from a Samsung I9000 model and then reflash it with the Rogers Firmware. This will remove the AT&T logo. However, there is a chance that this method may, in certain circumstances, leave a seemingly random pixlation on screen upon boot-up for the time the AT&T logo was meant to be displayed. A very minor issue and doesn't affect the phone or boot process."

[Q] Upgrading Android on Unlocked Samsung Infuse???

Hey,
I have a question. I have Samsung Infuse that I bought recently, it was locked on At&T but I unlocked it with no problems. The thing is it still has all the things from At&T, even the Software Update runs on At&T.
Is there any other way to upgrade to the newer version of Android without going through At&T? Because every time I try to search for update after 1 min of searching it says that it can't connect to At&T server. My firmware version is 2.2.1. (if that helps in any way).
This is my first Android phone and I'm still learning everything about it. But I'm going back home in Europe and I need everything to work perfect there.
To delete every setting and restriction that at&t put on my phone I have to re-install the software?
Thanks
how did you unlock it?
go to the Samsung infuse section in the forums and you can probably find stock gingerbread to flash to your phone.
well I unlocked it with a code of course.

[Q] Updating a rooted Samsung Replenish

I bought a rooted Samsung Replenish last week off Ebay. I had trouble activating it, so I had to call in to Sprint to get it activated. After doing a factory reset on the phone, it finally activated. But now there is an update available and I have found conflicting info as to whether or not updating it to GB would brick it. Does anyone here have any firm answers on whether or not attempting to update it would brick it?
Additional info:
I think it has a custom ROM on it, as the About Phone specs are:
Android Version 2.2.2
Baseband Version S:M580.06x.ED23
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
Build LeafRom 0.2-Beta
When the screen comes up, it displays 4 penguins and has "ShabbyMod" at the top.
Any assistance is appreciated.
not sure how to update for you, but LeafRom is a custom rom, google that and look into it, maybe there is an update?

Any updates?
did you try the OTA update? did it work?
LeafROM is a custom ROM possibly still Beta, I think at this point it was released almost a year ago and since the current Replenishes are shipping with GingerBread 2.3 it may be a tad behind.
I found mention of it HERE
also try ACS they have been doing some work on the replenish, looks like there may even be a CWM for it..

Help a Noob

Hey guys, im new.
Got a question if you dont mind? (hope this is the right place to post)
I have a Galaxy S2 GT i9100, im on the network 3 in the UK, and the phone is unbranded and unlocked.
i recently flashed the Polish version of the official ICS because i am impatient. (3 released their version 3 days later )
so, i began the process of flashing an older rom, KE7 to be exact, just so Kies can accept my phone to back up and to receive the latest official UK release of 3s ICS. I have successfully flashed and kies recognised my phone, but the version it is suggesting to update to is KI4??
Do i need to update the firmwares previous to ICS before i can actually get ICS?
Any help will be appreciated.
thanks
You need to flash the 3 branded firmware in order to get the recent 3 update. If that's what you did then I don't know what's wrong. If you didn't do that then go get the correct firmware from here...

Thanks for the reply,
foolishly i never checked what the original firmware was, but i never had a '3' logo on the boot up of the phone, i didnt buy it from '3' either, i got it from an online based contract provider on '3'.
So i just assumed i could reflash a sim free firmware then kies would recognise my number as being a '3' number - or is this not the case?
Do you think i should download the KI4 and see if it recommends a futher update?
Cheers
will do, il report back.
Officially updated through kies to 2.3.4 KI4, but no update to ICS. hmm, not sure what to do next, try another base firmware?
Any suggestions?
If you have an official 3 firmware then it should be offering you the update, as far as I'm aware. I suppose the fact that it came from a non-3 supplier may make a difference.
The alternative is to just download and flash the latest 3 firmware yourself, which you can get here...
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=1
Just scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see LPQ for 3 customers.
ahh, that was going to be my next question 'would the fact i got it through a third party vendor determin whether i got ics through 3' i cant find a clear answer for this.
so if i take the bloatware on the chin and get ics through odin on 3, would kies recognise this and enable me to back up?

Need help with galaxy s2

I have a galaxy s2 Sch-R760 that I would like to root..the problem is that my original carrier was Appalachian wireless. I went to the website b/c there was a software update for my phone..I download everything and do it step by step..Thinking it worked I turned my phone on and us cellular pops up? Never happen before.. Changed the baseband version to-FL26, build # to-Imm76d.fl26, and android version-4.0.4..
Well the really weird and messed up thing is my wife has the same exact phone. She done the update first. And it worked.Didn't change her carrier or anything..her baseband version went to-gb28,build# jz054kschr760X.gb28. And android version to-4.1.2. How did this happen? I have tried re-downloading the upgrade 2times..done a hard reset more than once.. And I had the phones on a contract.there not currently "hooked" up but will be..but I have wanted to root it forever..can I flash it back to whatnot was before and then root or what? Sorry if this was to much but I can't break it down any more.. Please help

Are you talking about the update from Samsung's website?
If you're talking about just upgrading an Over The Air (OTA) Upgrade, it should be able to be done from your "About Phone" settings. It should upgrade your baseband and android version to the proper versions that your carrier and phone manufacturer provide.
If you're talking about rooting and a custom rom, XDA has loads of files and guides to help you with rooting the phone, installing a custom recovery, and learning to flash ROMs and modems and such to your will.
I hope this helps you, but I don't know too much about your carrier.

Is it Safe to Take 4.4.3 OTA Update on Stock?

Hi, i'm kinda new to Rooting HTC Devices, but not to rooting android devices in general. I was wondering if it was safe to take the OTA Update to get the Latest Firmware / Radios Etc, and then Install Viper One 2.5.0. I haven't touched the Firmware at all and i heard from Team Venom that you had to update your firmware and so far i haven't found any RUU's that work properly and whenever i try to flash Viper One 2.4.0, i get VERY long boot screens and sometimes it hangs on the HTC Logo, like the post suggested. Is there any way of safely doing this to a Verizon Phone without loosing S-OFF, Root or an Unlocked Bootloader? Considering they said:
Notice: at the time of writing, both T-Mobile US and Verizon’s 4.4.3 Updates were not available yet, but announced.

which i think its not true since people are already running 4.4.3 and Viper One Running on the latest Firmware, and they also said
While the Verizon and T-Mobile US guys need to wait (with “method #1″), the TmoUS folks could head over to my thread (linked above) and set their phones to S-OFF and flash an international firmware as a shortcut (it should be ok, not sure on the impact, maybe losing some WiFi calling functionality which can be restored by flashing TmoUS Firmware once it becomes available), going by “method #2″. However, Verizon: do NOT flash an international GSM firmware! You would regret it badly! Same goes for Sprint by the way. No INT firmware for you ever!

Yet on the Verizon Post on Xda, they point you directly to it like i'm supposed to do that, and when i try "Method 2" which is also on their Website's Post that Links you to their Special Firmware Thread here , They Say:
I will cover GSM PHONES ONLY - no cdma / sprint firmware except when i wish to do otherwise.

which makes no sense considering they basically told me to go there from linking me in their Verizon Thread. I mean i'm totally confused how your supposed to flash the newest Firmware and it doesn't help that NO ONE has a tutorial online for this. I'm sorry if i'm coming off as a noob, but Normally Verizon OTA Updates have a tendency to Break Root and Lock the Bootloader and i don't know if this is any different.
My Device:
Verizon HTC One M8 (M8_WLV)
4.4.2, 1.55.605.2 Stock Sense
Rooted, S-OFF, Bootloader Unlocked
It's really easy to apply the radio and firmware. Just follow the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2824882
Also you are correct that taking the ota directly will cause you to lose root. Once you have applied the firmware you should be good with the ROM
