removing boxes on zen.

can anyone help me out here? i flashed the zen rom, and i love it. the only problem is those tacky ass boxes around the widgets. i flashed that update.zip and it worked but only for the default "mode". if i try and change the mode/theme the widgets go back to the default "bubble-style" widgets.

well i could be a smart ass and say read the thread cuz i personally posted a way to get rid of them but I won't. The best way to get rid of them on any version is to open up com.htc.resources.apk find container.png and either put a clear mask on them using gimp. or change them to something else or delete them then adb push the com.htc.resources back to /system/framework

[Q] Boot animations i9000

Hey guys, I have been told to post this here as I have not made enough posts..
I tried to change my boot animation, by placing the bootanimation.zip file in both /system/media and /data/local and all still plays the Samsung boot logo although with no sound.. So searched through the forums here and everyone tells you that you need a custom rom to get it to work if your phone has the /system/media/bootsamsung.qmg file...
I then cooked a package from romkitchen and installed that but have the same issue, even though I can see the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media/ I can also still see the bootsamsung.qmg as well.
I have only just got this phone about a week ago, so have searched thoroughly, in case I was missing something but i don't think I am..
Can someone help me with what’s going on?

Hm you should easily be able to change bootanimation with the rom kitchen.
Remember that you can not change the white text at the beginning of the boot.
I think the files stay there, they dont get removed, just another one gets used if its present, if not the stock animation will be used.

I'm not sure if this helps, I have cooked a new one today and applied and it said to keep this log incase I have issues.

I can see the file is in the folder, it just does not seem to take affect.
I am assuming that people have got these working on i9000's before and it's just me..

I still have not managed to get this working, starting to think that I am tripping..
All it seems to do is kill the samsung boot sound.

Do you use a stock rom?
This probably doesn't work because your android is not looking for the bootanimation.zip.
Custom ROMs have a modded start up script which tells the system to look for the .zip file.

I am using a rom from rom kitchen..
I have changed it again since I made post above but still a custom rom..

Did you try downloading a new wipe rom with a different bootanimation build in from start?

Yes, wipe rom, Hardcore's Kernel, boot animation, and everything else is prittly much the default setting in rom kitchen

I have tried selecting the bootanimation from RK, and also downloading one from elsewhere and replacing the one that is there.
Both have the same effect..

Weird,I had trouble switching mine too. The only way I've been able to do it is using the app called File Explorer. It's like 10 dollars on the market, but I found it for free. I put the new zip on my card, then file explorer/system/media, delete the boot animation zip,paste the new zip & rename it to the name of the zip that was there. It's worked every time. Flashing a new splash screen is a little different....

Just to clarify the splash screen is the white text right?
I am not trying to change that just the colored samsung animation.

The splash screen is the first screen you see when you turn your phone on. It doesn't move, & most often just says the name of the phone. Then the boot animation comes on, it moves & plays some kind of music. Do you have file explorer? If not, don't buy it,I can help you get it for free.

I have Root Explorer that I use to access that location.
I have tried another bootanimation from this spot -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538
I tried both of the sizes for the AndroidParticles2 and set the permissions to rw-r-r
(Renaming to bootanimations.zip and placing in system\media)
but still the samething happens.

Sorry typo, I don't have the s on my i9000.

Well that's how I change mine. I did download a particle ring android (blue) and couldn't get it to work right. Seems to me like you're doing everything right. There's one other option I know of. Download a free program called android flasher.

You should be able to flash boot animations & splash screens with no problem. It is a .rar, so if you don't have the program you'll need to download winrar or something similar to extract & install the files. Google it, the program is free.

help with custom boot animation

I can change the boot animation with np thanks to imnuts for his kernel. where im having issues is I cant get the dots boot animation to work on my wifes charge. you can find dots in the uot kitchen under boot animations. its labeled uot kitchen and is second from the bottom on list. every time i try to either flash or just replace files with root explore the boot screen goes total black. i change back or change to a different custom boot and everything is fine. Is there anyway i can fix this or can anybody offer any suggestions on how to get it to load right?

make sure you have the .zip placed in /system/media Also the file needs to be renamed to sanim.zip

i think you miss understand. i do that and my boot screen is black the entire time. using the dots boot animation. i delete file adn phone returns to normal or i change to a different boot animation im fine. im just having trouble getting the 'dots' to work right. but ty for your help

make sure permissions are rw-r--r-- for the sanim.zip file. If that doesn't work there might just be something wrong with the .zip file

You should be careful in using bootanimation on the Charge, some don't work and may even bootloop your phone. I have learned this the hard way. If you found a custom bootanimation design just for the Charge then it's safe to use otherwise look around to see which one ppl suggest to use or have used.

i understand that i could boot loop the phone but that is easy fixed. when i say screen goes black i dont mean boot loop. phone will boot just with a lack of any animation.

endless! your awesome thanks bud. been working on that theme too. i got a lot of images done but keep messing something up when i recompile. its still work in progress. But thanks for your help. here is the file im working from. Im sure im over looking something simple.

Here's the fixed animation, it's a little choppy, but that's just how the images are positioned. If you want to try to speed it up go ahead and change the frame rate to 45 or 60 instead of 30. And what type of errors are you getting when trying to recompile your APK's?

thanks again. i got your ver to work fine. what program are you using to edit and make the animations and decx file? i just tried to take your file and open the decx file and change 30 to 45 to see how it is and it just black screen boots on me again.

Just used winrar to extract the file then to repackage. Make sure you use 'store' as the compression type when placing the desc.txt back into the zip.

Changing boot animations

I have read the information on manually changing the boot animations, but has anyone used a tool to do it? Rom Tool Box and a slew of other apps have change boot animation functions. I was just wondering if anyone has successfully used any stand alone app to accomplish this? also boot logos?

I tried Rom Toolbox but it doesn't chance animation on mine. I don't know nor can find where the settings or the directory is on the tf700 is to change it in Rom toolbox. If you know... please share it or a link to the answer. Thanks

I've copied an LCARS one to /data/local and works perfectly.
How To Change, Customize & Create Android Boot Animation [Guide]
So you have found a boot animation that you want to install on your phone? Created one of your own and can’t wait to see it in action on your device? All you have to do is copy it at a certain location on your device. There are two locations you can copy it: /data/local and /system/media, and both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages of copying it to /data/local is that you will not require root access for it and it should work for all non-rooted devices without running the risk of changing anything in the /system partition. Furthermore, if a bootanimation.zip file is found in both locations, Android ignores the one found in /system/media and gives priority to the one in /data/local. A disadvantage of this method is that upon a hard reset (also called a full data wipe or a factory reset), the new boot animation will be lost.
Copying the boot animation to /system/media/ is possible only if your device is rooted and you have read+write access to the /system partition. An advantage of this method is that upon a hard reset, the new boot animation will still remain and there will be no need to apply it again. A disadvantage is that it requires ADB or a root level file browser such as Root Explorer or Super Manager.

Thanks for the info. I saw that and tried it but no luck. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Tried to change it with ROM Toolbox pro also an doesn't work. Am rooted and unlock but no JOY. I did find the /system/media/bootanimation.zip file but it just doesn't load.
Update: I copied the animation.zip files to both /system/media and also data/local. The only thing that loads is the White Asus sign for about 5 sec then a Black screen for about 20 sec then boots normally. Theres got to be a setting that directs the bootanimation file to load but can't find what file the boot looks for to load where to find bootanimation.zip.

This, to me, looks like the animation is corrupt or is not a boot animation. Check out this tool. Restore the original animation to /system/media and then use the one in the link of my previous post and put that in /data/local.

Thanks. I checked out the program and tried it but got errors pushing the file. to /media but it worked going to /local. tried previewing with romtools pro but not working. I'm stumped. Found a bunch of treads for this problem but nothing. files are not corrupted. I can get the boot animation files to run outside of android on a pc ect but not while trying to get them to animate inside there folders.... /local or /media. Somewhere in the boot process it's not loading. Need to find out why the White Asus animation works for a few seconds and where it is. It used to turn Brown/ Goldish and rotate but no longer. Anyone else with any guess's?
Also: Forgot to mention am using the JB bootloader.

That is not the boot animation of Asus, it's a still image embedded in either the bootloader or something close to it. It's not mean to be customized, the metallic ASUS logo with the light effect and then the circular progress indicator are part of the default bootanimation.zip

Yes of Course I'd be willing to share it. As I said I can view it outside of the floders on a Windows PC running the boot animtion progam. The one I was tring to install comes with RomToolbox Pro. The droid Peeing on an APPLE... need a few hours sleep as am to tied to keep messin with this. will get back to you... OH... I deleted all animation zip files also and still get the ASUS screen. non animated. whereever that file is it's corrupted I think.

Sorry for the wait. I have no way of uploading the animation file in question here. Looking for somewhere to upload it so you can look at it but as I said the file is not the problem. I need to reinstall the bootloader which is 9.4.5.30r01 Not sure how to just do that as I haven't looked into it. The 9.4.5.30r01 came from the nvflash tread in this forum. I need to research if I install a jb bootloader if I still have nvflash "JUST IN CASE" Have a nice day.

No problem, I have ROM Toolbox myself and got the animation. While playing around (copying animations to my tablet from my NAS) I figured out what might be wrong on your side.
Make sure your bootanimation.zip is in /data/local and set the file permissions to rw-r--r--.

Thanks I already tried that. I found that in a post days ago but no luck. permissions where set right. Since my last post I updated to the 10.4.4.18 the odex version and I got bootanimation back. I backed it up using trwp 2.3.1.0 and tried changing it with Rom toolbox again. I set the paths to data/local in the settings. I installed the new bootanimation.zip file and rebooted. It would not boot up at all. Got past the white asus and went blank and I waited 10-15 min but noting. I rebooted by holding down power button for like 10-15sec and still would not boot up. Had to go back to trwp and reinstall my .18 backup and it started right up. Am going to give up for now till I can find out what is causing this for me and not others. Theres just something I'm missing and haven't pinned it down. Thanks for your time and effort. really appreciate it.
Update: 10-22 @11:34 pm. I got it working... Installed CleanRom 2.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919851

I read all the treads and info I could find. I used Rom Toolbox pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro&feature=search_result and changed settings to install it in /data/local as everywhere I read suggested that directory. If you've read what I've tried in the past I already did that over and over. Checked the permissions of the file and all. the one thing I didn't do was remount the zip file after copying to the directory. I didn't think I would have needed to since toolbox would have handled that... I though. Thats the only thing I can think of why it wouldn't load on boot is because it wasn't remounting. Anyways. I got it working but to be honest I still don't know why and I actually wanted to know why... A learning experiance if you want. One more time... Thanks a million for your time.

The reason why it don´t work is that Asus maybe has integrated a check of system files in some asus app or in the kernel (don´t now)
Changing Bootanimation does only work for me with a cleanrom and cm10.
as you sad when you change it in the stock rom it wont boot anymore.
So Asus dont want that someone removes their bootanimation i think

You don't have to remove/replace the Asus bootanimation. Just place your own in /data/local set the correct permissions and you're good to go.

[Q] can't get new boot animation to work using rom toolbox

Hello, I would like to install a new boot animation.
I rooted my S3, installed Rom toolbox pro and went through the different boot animations. I previewed several of them. Installed the one I liked (actually changed the size to the max size as well, hopefully this isn't the cause of the issue I'm having). and even viewed the current animation (which it actually showed the one I choose).
I then rebooted as I couldn't find any other options for confirming that I selected a new animation. However my phones original animation continues to show.
With this I did a little digging and on a youtube video someone eluded to having to move the animation to another file, but gave no direction on how to perform this task.
I can't seem to get the animation to actually install or become my boot animation. What am I doing wrong? Please help
Edit: I've looked through similar threads on this forum and while at least 1 of them had the same issue, I couldn't find a solution that fixes this issue. (unless I just completely missed it of course and in that case please just point me in the right direction)

Ok, I'm really pulling my hair out here. All of the videos and instructions I have found have looked really simple (just click this button "install" and it works) whereas when I follow their "insturctions" nothing happens.
I know this is a simple process here but I am missing something.

in system/media there should be a file named bootanimation.zip overwrite it. fix permissions to match the folder/old one :good:
so the easiest way to get them from romtoolbox would be to download and move like i said. not the safest to let it install on its own.
also, half of the boot animations on there are not even in the correct dimensions. there are plenty of places on XDA and other sites where you can find WAY more , and probably in the correct size. hope this helps.
another thing : in the themes and apps section, there are even flashable boot animations. saves some of the hassle.

Thank you so much for the reply, however (as I am newer) I am stuck.
I went into system > Media and found no such file as bootanimation.zip.
I have seen this solution before, so I know others have had success with it. However it isn't there.
I have root access and I'm access this file system through rom toolbox, root browser.
There are no .zip files in that folder at all. The closest I came to is bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg
Now, I did check out the theme and app section but couldn't find this same issue there.

I downloaded Root Explorer and found the file you were referring to. Another thread suggested to rename the file bootanimation_bak.zip. I thought that route was a little less evasive as it didn't really get rid of the old boot animation. However, when I did that and copied the new animation in it still registered the original animation.
So, with that said, should I follow your first instructions as to overwrite the original file or is there something else here that I'm missing?

Try renaming the original bootanimation file to bootanimation.zip.bak then move the boot animation you want to system/media and name it bootanimation.zip. If that doesn't work it might be that the rom/kernel doesn't support custom boot animations.

No dice.
I thought you were on to something here as I found the system/media folder and had to change the permission to r/w and placed the boot animation.zip into it. However my old persistent one keeps popping up.
Now maybe I'm totally skipping a whole step here that everyone is assuming I'm taking. Do I have to have a custom Rom installed? I haven't done that yet, as none of the videos I've watched had instructed to do so. I'm rooted, that's it at this point.

Yes, the issue is the kernel not the rom. Your stock kernel is overwriting the boot animation. Considering you did do everything as the other user instructed you to do. You renamed the stock boot animation to .Bak and you renamed the one you want to play bootanimation.zip and placed it in the same folder?

Ok here are a couple screen shots of what I'm working with. I have followed every instruction through this thread.
This first shot is of the System/media folder. I pasted my new bootanimation.zip file here. Originally there was not a Bootanimation file here at all.

This second screenshot of the Data/local folder. This is where the orginal bootanimation.zip file was located. I was instructed to rename it as Bootanimation_bak.zip and paste my new Bootanimation.zip file here. Then was suggested that I change it from "_bak.zip" to ."zip.bak". Neither suggestion worked. Then it was suggested to move my new bootanimation.zip from the Data/local folder to the system/media folder. I did so and I changed the original name back to bootanimation_bak.zip. And this is where I currently am stuck at.

Now, I haven't done anything with my bootloader. I'm wondering if that is my issue, if I need to unlock my bootloader. I didn't want to get to involved with things that I didn't understand to fast and felt that replacing my boot animation seemed simple enough. So, do I need to unlock my boot loader?

As another user mentioned the stock kernel you are using doesn't allow you to use a custom boot animation. You will have to unlock your boot loader in order to flash a custom kernel that allows you to change the boot animation.

Ok, thanks. I just unlocked the boot loader. How do I know which kernel I should flash? Any suggestions?

Just make sure the kernel you flash is for your carrier and either touch wiz or aosp. If you're stock rooted it will be touch wiz. Just look through the development forums and find what works best for you. Right now I'm on bonestock rom with stock kernel but I really like Zeus kernel as well.
