So I rooted my captivate with the one click root and downloaded rom manager, but no matter how many times I try or in which ways I try to I can NOT download any roms the latest being Nero 3 so WTF????
After rooting, did you get the superuser icon in your apps?
Yes I did I also gave rom manager the ability to be a superuser
Was it the testing version of Nero3 from Team Whiskey? I don't think they have an official Captivate version yet ... maybe it changed the ID on the phone or something, might want to ask in their forums.
you are trying to download from ROM manager? or you are trying to flash another ROM?
downloading requires the premium version, you have that?

dont use ROM manager to DOWNLOAD the roms...
download them from the forums here and flash them through recovery....
I got it.to root then downloaded it and it bricked my captivate now I'm stuck with a crappy aria because there won't be any captivate in stock till tues
...how did you brick a Captivate?
Did you try to go into download mode? Remove your battery and then while holding Volume Up/Down , plug in the usb cord to your computer to get your phone into download mode, you should be able to.
Look at the sticky in the Android Dev section on how to install a custom ROM

The easiest way to enable sideloading is to flash a new ROM. You can download all you need directly on the phone.
When I was using the stock ROM, I used android side loading wonder machine from android central.

I dont have a computer any more. So everything i try is going to have to be through phone. The link someone posted is for oneclick done on the computer. Which i dont have any more. Also if theres away to sideload without having to mess with roms. I like what i have and dont want to fart around with roms. So if rooting phone will let you sideload is there something on market i can dl? Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Other than flashing a ROM I don't know a way to enable sideloading directly on the phone. Rooting would definately be required if there is an app to do it. Rooting would not be required if it is done through an update.zip. Rooting itself will make no difference in sideloading.
If you are running stock FroYo you cannot do anything without a computer, update.zip's wont run on stock FroYo (3e recovery).
If you are going to flash a new recovery to enable using the update.zip method then you may as well flash a new ROM, its the same amount of work, and mostly the same steps.
If you like the stock experience give Cognition a try. Its what would have come on the phone originally if the Samsung developers were actual end users. Its fast, stable, and full of features like sideliading, root, tethering, and many more.
And if none of this makes sense ... don't do it. If you don't understand what you are doing you will have a paperweight instead of a phone. All the info is in the stickies, this section or development section.

I understand about flashing. Well sorta lol but you need a computer to do all this with right? If i had my computer i wouldnt be on here because i use adb to sideload but sence comps down all i got is phone. This sucks. Going to have to see about vetting desktop up and running again i guess. O well thanks for the input.

What are you running on your phone?
If you are running stock 2.1, you may be able to do everything directly on your phone depending on if your phone will support 3 button combo. To test turn off your phone, then hold both volume buttons and power, when you see the third white att screen release the power button while still holding the volume keys. If you get a recovery menu, 3 button combo is supported, and you are good to go. You can download all you need to flash a ROM. Basically the clockworkmod update.zip and the ROM of your choosing.
If you can't get into recovery I think you need a computer to enable 3 button combo.
If you are running stock 2.2, you need a computer, period.

You probably dont have drivers installed. They are included with samsungs media companion- kies. Search "kies" on google. Shouldnt be hard to find.

Hahaa nice i was same place as you where... I had Fuze and then Touch pro2 running energy roms... Well man you could try an older version of super obe click but.. The new one never gave me trouble.
And if as you say, you want to root to possibly flash a GB ron later the possibukity of Odin flashing a pre rooted Rom its still a good choice if super one click keeps giving you trouble, it will basicly leave your stuff like pics music etc intact and flash a rom with root included ill add you a few thread links when i get to my pc.

Thanks for the links koriotto. I went with an earlier 1.9x superoneclick for now, but I will get thos links bookmarked!
I do have a question tho. Your links are for ultimate unbrick, right? So basically that is a staock rom for users to flash back to if they go too far down the rabbit hole?
- Thanks, Kevin
It works fine if you don't use zergrush as the exploit.
Zergrush kept hanging for me with latest superoneclick version.
Switched exploit to psneuter and it worked fine
So I bought a Captivate off of craigslist. first mistake, i know. but i inspected the phone meticulously and everything had checked out. That is...
Until I got home. I had seen that CM7 nightlies were posted and I use them on my Inspire so i didn't waste anytime rooting and installing CWM. I then downloaded 2 ROMs, one normal 2.2 ROM and CM nightly build 13. I read about cm7 and how it replaces the EFS file system, so the only way to change ROMs is to odin back to stock.
Here's the funny part. Everything I did up up to and including installing CM7 I did WITHOUT using a computer/USB whatsoever. So I install samsung USB drivers on my 2 PC's (win7 and xp) and I go to connect my phone in download mode. no dice. everytime i plug it in, both of my PCs say the dreaded "usb device has malfunctioned"
2 additional details to note:
1. my friend picked up a stock 2.2 captivate at best buy tonight and i threw it in download mode on the same usb port and it connected fine and installed drivers, + odin saw the device. mine still says malfunctioned.
2. I know USB connectivity works because if i go to the CWM recovery I can mount USB storage.
SO what are everyone's thoughts? did i not read a special instruction? am I missing something really stupid? or am i stuck on CM7 nightly builds for the rest of forever? haha.
Edit: found this in the cm7 nightly post:
**Warning : Not for new users, flash this build only if you know what you are doing !!! Make SURE you can get into Download mode using only buttons (no other method, Download mode from just buttons is essential).**
I didn't read that^ whoops. I cannot get into DL mode using only buttons...does that mean i am stuck on CM7?

Correct me if im wrong but cm7 flash requires nexus s usb drivers(or did at one point). Your friends new phone would be detected with the captivate drivers while yours would not.
If you just have the wrong drivers installed you can get the right ones from the android sdk. Uninstall current usb drivers.. reboot... install nexus s usb drivers.. reboot... plug in phone.

Super one click no longer works on the G2X GB rom. The exploit was patched. Google purposely left the exploit in the Nexus One GB rom since it is a developer phone and they expect it to be rooted. Right now the only way is to flash CWM recovery with NVFlash and then install a pre-rooted rom.
I've been lurking for a while, and I saw others complaining about the camera after updating. Is there a pre-rooted rom with the LG camera on it, and where would I find it?

I beg to differ. Ever since I got my 2.3.3 preloaded G2x from T-mobile, my computer does not even recognize a new APX device was connected. I've ran the procedure following step by step to the T several times, and it never pops any "S/W Upgrade" on my phone's screen anymore and does not show windows finding any new APX device. Can someone please tell me how I can make windows force install the APX driver without recognizing that the device is there? Is that even possible?

I flashed back to stock so it is brand new Infuse, debug mode, keis mini downloaded and drives downloaded, mass storage checked, run super one click and it gets to "running pneuter" and stops, waited an hour on this and it won't go further.
PLEASE any suggestions would be amazing!
download gtg return to stock(ucke3) it is in the super thread in dev section it will give you root and mod 3e then down load community kernal flash it with sgs kernal flasher let your phone reboot it will take about 10 to 15 min. so dont panic this will give you red clockwork recovery then follow the instuctions in zeus op
