Is there any app for background video recording in loop? I want to record last 5-10 minutes when driving in case of an accident, but I want also use a navigation. I didn't find anything.
I have HTC desire HD.
DRV, AutoGuard, VideoRoad...
There are quite a few...
DailyRoads Voyager can do what you need, I use it together with other background stuff, while navigation is in front.
The only problem I have is that the system kills user apps relentlessly when memory is running low
But this will probably not be an issue on your phone.
Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking.
Wow, the timing coudn't be better Just yesterday I was thinking about the exact same app...
Thanks for the tips and I wanted to ask whether someone has already tried one of these?
I have AutoGuard Free, VideoRoad and DailyRoadsVoyager installed (for testing) and I have the same problem with each of this app - no autofocus on my HTC Desire... The video is out of focus and cannot be adjusted...
Does anyone else have this problem?

Hey, might be a very limited market, but I was wondering if anyone knew, or could code an app that overlays the video camera (or is its own video camera) with GPS information.
In theory it shouldn't be too hard to do, poll the GPS for speed, the compass for direction and stick them at the bottom of a video overlay along with the system date and time on top of the camera, then record the total image/video to the SD card.
I got thinking about this after picking up my car dock and having a play around with it (inadvertently managing to record a drivers eye view of my journey home!). It would be a great app for trackdays etc, you could even output the GPS NMEA data to a KMZ file and import it into google earth, or given some fine tuning make it into a very basic GPS data logger...
Anyways, thinking out loud here If anyone can do it let me know, I can code basic stuff, but something like that is way out of my league...
Cheers
Sounds like a nice application. To take it even further: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgXzdUb_fug I think this is an even greater use of camera + gps.
The only thing about making it into an augmented reality nav system is that it will still require mapping information, and the prob with that is that the free ones have pretty mad amounts of errors, and the paid ones need megabux spending (and they still have loads of errors).
With my idea, it's not an A/R system - it's simply a video overlay of info that's already in the phone. The major problem I see would be polling it, interpreting it, and writing it to the video at 30fps or whatever the unit captures at.
I do like that app tho, but it's not really what I envisaged with this
So you want to record a video similar to this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdAIaIOySoA for afterwards playback only? If so, I think this is possible only to store video + gps information in seperate files. The recorded video will be recorded as a normal video. The gps data can be stored using a kmz file with a sort of timestamp. Afterwards these 2 files can be played back with a application on the android device which reads these two files and overlays the video playback with the data from the kmz file.
I guess it will be to hard to create an application that records video and embeds the recorded gps data into the recorded video. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the android API can say something about this?
yep, got it in one... Although it would be for playback on the PC rather than on the phone.
The standard format is .3GPP, which is nice and small (comparitively speaking) and good quality too, and plays on a PC through Quicktime / VLC no problem.
I honestly think it would be perfectly doable... I just can't do it!!!
It sounds cool, but is it useful? Will anyone actually read the data/time/lat/long on the bottom of the screen during playback?
On top of that it will make the cpu work extra hard putting the text on every video frame.
Another idea is to use the timed-text stream (subtitles) in the mp4 file. (more)
Dont know how much work is involved.
It is a pretty specialist app, however I reckon people would use it for timing laps etc.
Look at how many in-car videos there are of trackdays on YouTube, and the ProVida system that is in use in the video above... there is a definite use for it imho - even if it's just used to show off people's VMAX on the autobahns etc!!
Must admit, I wouldn't see a point in the lat/long info - all I was guessing at was a simple overlay on the video with speed and direction bottom left, date & time bottom right so as not to distract from the actual video.
Hep hep hep
Don't put this idea underground (please). This app could be REALLY interesting for a bunch of freak I know (I'm one of them too :-D)
I'm in a very big forum of EV and there, such video is really really researched. The fact that it has to be processed afterward made by a separate soft is no problem...our main target is to upload a video with speed, altitude...etc for comparison or simple burning thing like "Yeah I've the freakiest e-bike..ever" X-)))
This is interesting for e-bike but also for EVERY (on the road, in the wood...etc) people which are searching performances and want to share them
Hope someone like the idea. If not I make a thread on the endless-sphere forum that the guys come "show their motiviation" here
Cheeeeers and do it ;-)
Grüß,
H.
A lot of people have been waiting for this for a long time, but I don't think its possible on android yet.
Lets hope it will be on 3.0.
A friend said that one guy will release a update to his track logging app, for the iphone 4 within a few days that will add this functionality.

Looks like there is something out there and its FREE! :

I've seen a couple in the Market but they don't look very good based on the reviews. I just want to be able to record hour long lectures to SD card in a decent format. Is there something "standard" that is usually included?
Thanks!
On the backflip the Sound Recorder does not show up in the apps menu, but you can use Anycut to create a shortcut to it.
Sound Recorder is in the list of activities you can choose.
I don't know if this applies to other phones or if it will meet your needs.
How large would a 60 minute sound file be?

Sorry I should have mentioned - I am running Android 1.6 Myn's Warm Donut on an HTC Vogue.
WOW how strange - Anycut worked exactly how you mentioned. Thanks. Question now - is this part of the internal Android software? So strange that you need anycut to make it initially, and then you can uninstall anycut
I think maybe I had better find a real full recording app, because this one seems to stop as soon as you switch apps.
PS Thanks Anycut is awesome anyways, I bought Bettercut I liked it so much
I think that the built in sound recorder is intended to be used by more full featured apps. I have not used it much. Please post what app you find that works for you.
Ok - you made me curious. Look at Rehearsal Assistant it will continue recording if you change to another app and it offers compressed and uncompressed recordings. The price is right, it's free.
Ok sorry for the delay, but I wanted to report back on my testing of EVERY recording app I could scour the market for. I still have yet to find a single stable app. Every single one I've had a problem like recording halts without so much as an error message or indicator. Perhaps it is a weakness in something within Android. Really hoping I can find some kind of solution - I need a voice recorder for the fall, and I would hate to buy one when I have an android device with an 8 GB card... Oh well.
My conclusion: There is a STRONG gap when it comes to a stable recording application.
Dictadroid - new recorder app
Hi,
I stumbled across this post and wanted to mention that there is a new app available on the Android Market called Dictadroid.
I developed Dictadroid with the goal of making a simple but powerful voice recorder.
Please download Dictadroid and let me know what you think. You feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Boris
Hi all ,
I really hope I'm not duplicating here, but I've had a look and it seems like no-one has had this exact problem. Please accept my apologies if there is someone with an absolutely identical problem and I've just not seen it. I have looked on various different forums however, and to no avail.
Background - I got my shiny new HTC Sensation at the end of Oct. Fell in love with it, and Android, quite quickly, as it gave me the customising ability that I could never get from my iPhone.
Issue - Every 6 days since I got it (a pattern I've only just noticed) the lock screen freezes. The ring and shortcuts are there, but no background - just black. No touch input works, but if I call it, it rings and the status bar responds, I just can't get into it. The only way to get to it, is to take the battery out and do a factory reset. This is obviously incredibly annoying as, even tho I have a good backup system, I still need to do all my widgets and shortcuts and blah blah blah. The reason I've only just worked out that it seems to be a 6-daily cycle, is that my provider have already replaced the handset once, and it still does it even on the new one. The latest episode was on Friday night just gone.
Current situation - On the advice of my provider, I am now using my phone without the SD card in it, and without any apps apart from the the stock ones. Then, if it's still running after a week, they told me to put the SD back in, and then get my apps back on in batches of 2 or 3. This is going to be a very lengthy process, and will therefore be a massive inconvenience.
Question - Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I'm a total droid noob, but I've read lots of stuff and spoken to a few people and I've come up with the conclusion that it might be an auto task killer that is messing with a process, or it could be something that tries to update every 6 days, but causes a massive conflict somewhere in doing so. I'm really just guessing there, which is why I have come to what seems to be the best source of info on smartphones, to see if any of you guys and gals might have any ideas on this issue.
Thanks so much in advance for any help anyone may be able to throw in my direction.
Mike
a reset wont work? are you ROOTED? or Stock? if anwsered these im sorry its like 48 hour day for me right now and reading and even typing is putting me to sleep,
but back to your problem it could be something updating and causing the issue, if it happens every 6 days, on the 5th day go into phone and turn off background data, this will stop anything that wants to update in background, and see if that stop the problem, then you know it is something that is running that causing the issue
or possible as stated a auto task killer,
what apps do you usually have normally, a list of what you install on your phone can do eliminate of process
Hi ilostchild,
Thanks so much for your response.
In answer to your questions:
Not rooted. I really want to, but because of this issue, have not done so yet. So it's got HTC Sense 3.0, and lots of apps that I have never used and will never use from my provider, Orange.
Here's a list of downloaded apps:
Apps:
Dropbox
Tappin
Evernote
Es File Explorer, Task Manager & Security Manager
AVG antivirus (free)
Viber
Bump
IMDb
Ultimate Guitar tabs (Purchased)
Backup Everything
Dolphin Browser
Tune in Radio (Purchased)
Perfect Keyboard (Purchased)
PowerAMP full (Purchased)
Soundcloud
Zedge (I have "auto change wallpaper" option on)
ebay + paypal
MX Video player
Kindle
Skitch
uTorrent Remote
App2SD
Applist Backup
Various google apps (goggles, night sky, g+ etc)
Games:
Contract Killer
Drag Racing
Non market games:
Gameloft - Asphalt 6 Adrenaline; N.O.V.A. 2; Eternal Legacy
I think that's everything.
So, at the moment I am using my phone without the SD card, on the advice of my provider, to see if it is the SD card that is causing the issue. Could it be the SD card that is causing the problem? It doesn't make much sense to me as I can't see how a corrupt or problematic card would be causing such a time-related issue. However, as I said in my first post, I am an Android noob, so I'm not basing that assumption on anything apart from what I know about PCs.
One thought I did have, was that it may be my Zedge app. I had it installed on both the original handset and the recent replacement one. Plus, I had it set to an hourly wallpaper auto-change, and when the phone freezes, there is no wallpaper visible on the lock screen. Again, that is purely guesswork.
I hope that info is useful for you. And thanks again for taking the time to answer my post.
If you need any other info I will be more than happy to provide it.
It could possibly be that app zedge, ans no can't be sdcard if it was it would fail on the spot , also could be avg virus scanner , I suggest clearing phone and just installing zedge and see by sixth day, if it doesn't try avg, I only can see those 2 causing the problem
Thanks again for your help.
I'll try your suggestions. It's good to know it's not the SD card. I can start taking pictures again!
I wouldn't say it was avg I got it on my senny and its ok try the other app 1st how often does it change ur wallpaper and how many are there

Evenin' squire,
Thanks for your input.
I have it set to one hour intervals (I bore easily!) and there are probably about 20 wallpapers that it cycles through. I'll give a go for a while without that app - although I've had a look for any known issues with it and I can't find any that are similar to my issue. I guess it could be a conflict with something else and I'm just unlucky enough to have the exact config of apps that creates that particular problem!
Thanks again mate.
Im not a dev, but i thought of this, what you could do is when it freezes up you can plug it in computer and get a logcat, maybe someone who can read it will know what happen

That sounds like a really good plan, only problem is, I have no idea how to do it.
What do i do after plugging it in? Do i need any software on my PC?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
adb/fastboot/sdk installed, and when it happens just plug phone to computer,
go to adb directory(unless you have it set in windows enviroment)
and do adb logcat and it will output bunch of stuff and copy and paste it here
Thanks man.
Well, I'm on day 8 now with no issues (really hopeni haven't jinxed it now!).
I haven't re-installed Zedge or the avg antivirus and I've kept auto-sync off.
I will come back if it happens again, but in the meantime, thanks so much for your help with this. It's so good to know that there are actually people out there who don't mind helping out a fellow human.

Np, man glad to see it working, i suggest try it with auto-sync now without the app
see what happens, but glad its working good for you
Hello guys!
Is it possible to force WP7 phone - in my case HTC Mozart - to record video in background? I would like to use my phone as a car navigation (in foreground) and car video recorder (in background) - to have an video evidence in case of some accident (hope not!)...
Cheers!
It would be extremely difficult on a stock ROM, although people are working on that. On a custom ROM, yes, this should be possible, but I don't think the software to do so has be written yet. Note that this would have a mildly disasterous effect on battery life.
The catch is the "in the background" part, as the official APIs for background tasks are much too limited for this. On a stock ROM, that would mean either finding a way to make an app elude the watchdog that limits background tasks, or or finding a way to run an EXE. Both are possible, at least on some phones, but neither is easy. On a custom ROM, the native EXE option would be pretty easy, although I don't think anybody has written a fully-native program to access the camera stream yet (shouldn't be hard, though).
Seems that I should offer a prize for developers...
I have used several applications and tried to install some modules on magisk to try to record the audio of the video from the video call conversation. None successful. Our researched the Internet several places did not find. I find that for certain situations quite useful so I am trying to find some way. Does anyone know the way the module way? My phone is a moto g8 Plus. I think with another cell phone it would be easier to get. I hope someone can contribute. I look forward to it. Get. The amazing thing is that you are recording normal and with audio, just press the red button on the video recorder, which is automatically silenced without mercy. What a ****ing thing! I hope someone has any suggestions or solutions. Thanks
Please help me
Have you tried a screen recorder app?
Some Android device comes with a built-in screen recorder. In case, your smartphone doesn't ship with a native screen recorder, then you can download some free Screen Recorder app from Google Play.
I've done this several times, I've downloaded the entire play store basically, none of them worked. That's why I'm here trying. I've used modules but I haven't used the correct one, I believe.
friend did you find something that records with audio?
