[Q] ViewSonic "Favorite Links" Page - G Tablet General

All:
We've posted a links page for our more inexperienced GTablet owners to get Flash and other goodies on their GTablet. Any other links or sites you'd suggest for those less technical than you?
http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/favorites.htm
Thanks!

How about a link to taobao for the docks since you guys havent brought out any actual acessories.............

Thanks for participating.....we do appreciate it. I would suggest that you not post sites like fring as their video chat software is not working with the gtab....this will lead to customer frustration with the device. There is not a functional video chat app that really works with this device yet.

Dang, that's harsh...he's trying here, lets not scare him away yet
I think a link to the root of the gtablet section would suffice.
We started a wiki that needs some work here: tegratab.com(managed by bekit)

Thanks for posting here! It's refreshing to see a company engage their user base and actually take suggestions. Having worked in engineering for the largest PC maker in the world for many years, I've seen first-hand how hard it is to make changes, so I applaud you for taking these steps.

I totally agree. I have to say that I've never really seen this before. You know what would be cool, if they Viewsonic gave XDA Developers all the rights to their G Tablet and then releas a G Tablet - XDA Edition. That would be SA-WEEEEET!!!

I would also add the Nook reader to your ebook section. The Nook reader for Android is very nice on this tab - it even has a "landscape mode" that makes it look like you're really reading a book with two pages!

Where did you find the Nook Reader ? B&Ns site keeps trying to direct me to Market.
Speaking of which...can you add some links to the Google Apps (gmail, maps, calendar) to those favorites?
Oh, and thanks VS!

They didn't put in my favorite Android reader app, FBReaderJ...

Including the XDA G-Tablet forum is already more than enough. Many thanks for that

Thank you for joining us here.

awesome
Thank You!!! I applaud your company for actually caring about the users experience after you have our money.

Nook
I agree that a Nook app link would be nice. B&N does not seem to have it posted except for on appslib and the market. The only other place I have seen it is here:

Thanks Viewsonic for listening!

It appears that appbrain has the Nook AP for free download.

I think you still need market access to use Appbrain.

I have been following this forum for the past couple of weeks trying to decide if I wanted to take a chance on this tablet. My only concern was VS dropping support. Now I believe VS is in for the long haul. I have been to Office Depot twice just to play with this thing. Now I going back to buy it.
Thanks Viewsonic.

Thanks for listening Viewsonic. This will certainly have a positive effect on your Gtablet sales and your company image.

A little off subject but OVS are you rocking the gtablet ? Also thanks for participating with the community.

I don't think we'll be seeing Nook on the Gtablet anytime soon - there doesn't seem to be a link to the APK anywhere - but it looks like VS did include FBReader on the Favorites page.
New OTA update coming today, and I suspect the source code will be released soon.

LoL, this is why Microsoft wants to review apps that are sent in for their marketplace. Have you published this one on the Android Market? I'm very curious if Google will react on this.

New Users: Another Good Resource

Just remembered this for those who may not know:
ViewSonic.com has several pages of information and resources at
http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet
You will find a row of tabs at the top that will provide everything from sales info
to specs, to support info to "Favorites."
Favorites is my favorites tab because the list a bunch of links to commonly
used software and some sites. Click and you're there. Convenient.
Worth a look.

The Favorites links point to APK downloads that you should be able to install on any device, so it shouldn't matter if you are rooted and modded.
For at least one of the apps they link to (Android System Info), the version they link to is quite outdated, and the market has much more recent version, that works and doesn't crash all the time.
sstair,
That one has NEVER worked worth a hoot for me!

I think the Gtablet Favorites page is primarily for users running stock ROM who don't have Market. As such, links are to APK files hosted on third-party sites and often the latest versions are not available.
Another good resource for off market apk's is 4shared.com and then search for .apk Tons of great apps that you may be looking for
Everybody has probably already noticed this, but I think its cool that Viewsonic links to XDA on the favorites page. I don't have 8 posts so I can't link. Just go to the link in the 1st post and look under the developer resources heading.
I agree, that Viewsonic linked to XDA was one additional thing that encouraged me to go with the Gtab. How many other companies do you see encouraging Dev's?

Not many. I think Viewsonic is the only company I've seen that is pretty much blatantly endorsing devs. If Viewsonic didn't like what people were doing with their devices, that link would not be there. Its a nice change from all these OEMs trying to stop devs or at least slow them down.

Pretty much every company that doesn't wanna deal with the development, as well as troubleshooting and support, themselves.
Yea it would be kinda cool if it was a "Hey, here is XDA, you should check them out if you don't like out development stuff", but it wasn't, it was more of a "We're not doing development, so you might as well try here and see what you can get".
i cant go to recovery mode can you help me?
thank you i am new user.

My GTab video blog is up and running... I have about 5 or 6 videos so far... the first 3 are the basic clockwork mod rooting, flashing a rom (Vegan 5.1) and flash/market fix. I also did one showing the hulu fix... and I will be posting a new one soon on getting swype running on the GTab.
I have plans to do Rom reviews, apps, and games in the future.
Short quick videos... all in one place.. with XDA forum links to follow.
If you have any suggestions... any good tutorials from the forums that you want me to made a video for... Please visit the blog and let me know!

Nice I bookmarked it. Thanks and I like the site design. Well done!
Thery useful video blog. Thanks!
Sweet, i'm getting my GTAB tomorrow so I'll definitely be checking out your site.
very nice!
Thanks
Thanks for adding to the mix.....
Outstanding! Thanks for the extra work, I'm sure many of us will benefit from it.
I plan to follow advice found on XDA and do the following:
1) Open and run the device stock for a bit.
2) Do the OTA update and evaluate. I may be purchasing one for my mother and I think the updated stock will be plenty for her to check email, do facebook and check the weather?
3) Look at Vegan 5.1 and Supplement as well as Clemsyn's kernel.
4) Look at TNT
5) Have fun with it!
Nice blog. My gTab should be coming in tomorrow so get to play around with it.
I'm a stickler for written directions, but a video to follow is even better! Great work!
Suggestion: Any chance of getting a vid up with setting up nvflash, getting the tab in apx mode, possibly pulling/pushing files from/to the tablet?
Thanks again!
You all rock... thanks for the kudos!!!!
@Dueces99: NVFlash is my only hurdle right now... I consider myself tech savvy but for some reason, I couldn't figure that one out... YET... I'm sure I just need to do some more research, but if anyone knows the best how-to on that I would really appreciate it... because lets face it... the Viewsonic Birds have to go... I've seen that logo over a decade ago...
Thanks again everyone... pass on the good word and I'll keep posting videos!!!!
I just checked out the site. Looks great, good work.
Very nice!
Before I say anything, you know that your site is awesome and that you are awesome.
That said, you're no Steve Jobs. When Steve Jobs first presented the ipad in his conference, you could tell from the videos that he tried very hard to present the strengths and cover up the weaknesses. For instance, everytime he pressed a soft button, he always gave it about half a second for the ipad to respond. In your video, I noticed that you kept pressing it really fast and then having to repress the screen.
Yes, your videos are awesome. But if I were you I wouldn't quit my day job to become a salesman LOL
Excellent site- thank you for your hard work
hahaha!

Very true... This is just a hobby and I do every video in one take... Its more about function over form... I'm sure I spent more time on the logo and intro music than I did the composure of the videos... but for what its worth, I will try to rehears a little more so I don't look entirely like a noob!
When my Gtab comes in tomorrow, your site will be on my list of 'have to learn from'. Thanks, my man!!!
Very nice work, thank you!

Android 3.0/Iconia A500 Market Workaround

Dunno if this is relevant for any other tabs, but on my Iconia, some apps show up, but when I go to their page it pops up with an error. I assume due to the device, either being Acer or 3.0. If instead of clicking Ok, you use the tabs software back button, it leaves you on the page and you can download and install the app. Tried it on 2 devices with Amazon Kindle and it worked. Maybe this will help someone else.
Error..... Ummmm.....
Wrong forum?
A picture is worth a thousand words.
Is it possible that maybe he was trying to help the people who cannot seem to download from the market? ( full market access)
First sentence even says "Dunno if this is relevant for any other tabs" Folks we're one of those tabs.
Ok, my bad.
With the issue of the market, it's already been addressed that for some devices right after you apply market fix it will take a few minutes to adjust itself during the first download. Some people don't have the patience and so they click on the back button and cancel the process. I suggest just try to download a free app from market and let it sit there for a while. Just let it do its thing.
No, I have a gtab as well as an Iconia, the iconia tab is in it's infancy. I also realize other members cross read differing forums.
Just sharing what I've found with the subforum I was most frequenting prior to getting an A500 :-D

I wouldn't mind getting an apk of that multimedia app/widget off your Iconia.
Looks like goodintentions got as far as the original post's title before print screening, jumping out to paint, and drawing up a corrective (not unnecessary and mean spirited) diagram.
This sounds like the issues I was having on an un-partitioned TNTLite. I found that the apps suffering from this issue could be installed via the android market web interface without any problems.

[UPDATED 11-13][INFO] [1035+ APPS] Ultimate List of Tablet Apps - Updated regularly

If you guys like the site, please hit the Google Plus one button the top left corner of the site so I know
Tablified.com - [tab * li * fied] -verb. 1. apps that have been specifically made for Android tablets.
Well, after days of working on the site, its finally here. It's not perfect, but I think android tablet owner are going to enjoy this.
One of the biggest flaws with the Android Market is that there really isn't a dedicated section for tablet apps. Phone apps get thrown in the pile with tablet apps and its just impossible to find tablet SPECIFIC apps.
Many developers say their apps are "optimized" for tablets which, at first sounds great. But sadly, most of the time the app is just adjusted to fit better on a larger screen without adding any new features or tablet specific UI elements.
This is where Tablified.com comes in. Each app is tested to insure that it really is a tablet specific app. While I want to give credit to XDA and the Xoomforums for providing me with a list of apps, I found out that many of those apps aren't really tablet specific. There are currently over 50 apps on the site and more added every day. If you have an app, please use the "Submit an app" link on the site and let me know what the app is; if it meets the requirement, I'll add it to the list.
Tablified.com does NOT allow you to purchase the app. I simply links back to the Android market for you to complete the transaction. What I do is list up as many apps as I can find, after testing each one of course. I am very critical about which apps go up because I want users to only see tablet SPECIFIC apps-that's why games are currently not available. Until I see the same version of "Burn the rope" that's available on the iPad for Android tablets, you won't find it on my list-this goes for many other games.
We have a couple of people working on the site and are recruiting people to help. If you know how to use wordpress and would like to join the team, then please PM me. I apologize if there are any errors on the site. I did my best. If there are any errors, please leave a comment on the app and I will fix it ASAP.
We have big plans coming soon. Can't same much now, but I think its something to look forward to. Sorry for making this so long, but I hope everyone enjoys the site. Ads are there to help pay for the hosting-sorry, no ad-free version
Cool Site.. I love what you are doing with it. I'll be sure to keep this page in mind when browsing. Maybe set up an RSS feed when a new app is added so I can see it on Pulse.

Maybe I'm missing it, but a top downloaded section would be nice, maybe a top downloaded for the week, most popular list, etc. Or exporting the ratings from the market and displaying that.

thanks for your feedback. the only way that i can do a "top downloaded section" would be if people start voting on the site. this is accomplished by simply rating it using the stars icons . if you guys dont rate then i cant display the top rated app/game etc. I had a section for that kinda stuff but because the vote count was low and it didnt look pretty so it didnt seem worthwhile to keep it. so once you guys start voting then i can make a place for it. this is only the first month of the site being released so maybe next month ill put it in. in the mean time, you can scoll to the bottom on the homepage to see the most viewed app.
as for the rating, i dont think theres a way to do that. but each app has a widget at the bottom of the page that has the market link as well as the rating it received on the Android Market. if you guys like the app, simply rate it by pressing the stars just like you would on the official market.
please keep the suggestions coming.

Although Lotus looks ok on tablets, its not a tablet specific nor tablet optimized app. You can find more detail about the requirements on the FAQ section.

Can't find any decent gallery app, anyone seen any with super fancy effects similar to the honeycomb Youtube app?
Its not tablets its Honeycomb
I was excited when I saw a posting about this thread until I actually went to the site. It really isn't a site listing apps designed for the larger, landscape real estate of a tablet but actually a site listing apps that are fully integrated for Android 3.0+ (Honeycomb) instead. There are plenty of tablets that run Android 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 like the one I'm typing on right now. I would appreciate apps that are designed for a tablet as much as the nearest Xoom user.
Quite the disappointment :-(
