[REQ] Any App to backup and Restore SMS for WP7 - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
After couple of days searching on market and google, but I can not find any application to backup and restore SMS for Windows Phone 7.
Please can you give me an advice or link me to like that application.

currently there's no way unless Microsoft release an APP

You would think Microsoft MyPhone would work with WP7 I liked the way you could archive your SMS's and it would automatically remove them from the device

Myphone was discontinued I heard. So there will be no WP7 version of myphone i guess. This does not mean there will come out with something different. This time for money of course

I want to backup all my important SMSs before flashing costumed rom.

only contacts, calendar, and emails. basically everything that can presently sit on exchange. though sms should be able to with more exchange support, though we may not see that till late this year.

Is it really so, and there is no sms-synchronization software?

The answer is no; there is currently no application, official or third-party, for SMS sync.

Developer have no idea????

OK, I'm confused: how is it none of you have even tried searching xda-devs itself? There is an app, pretty much permanently in the top page or two of the dev & hacking sub-forum, that does *exactly* this.
That said, it's limited in what devices it can run on (requires interop-unlock, only works on first-gen Samsung and HTC and even then only those without the very latest firmware) but yes, this exists...

HTC should make FaceBook App

I deactivated my Facebook account because I didn't have time to use it and the microsoft facebook on my phone wasn't the best (why leave information up on a site that you don't have time to check/change?).
If HTC develops a Facebook app or a tab for the HD2 in the awesome way they do things, I probably will start facebook again.
I agree. I'm not hating or anything, but facebook has a much broader use than Twitter and it would be nice to be able to communicate people who actually matters to you rather than following some celeb or industry giant (be it Paris Hilton or Peter Chou).

if you check the topaz and rhodium threads you'll find htc have a facebook app just not like the twitter tab. its integrated into your contacts if you have a search you'll find out more. also if you go to x.faceboom.com you can access it via opera and it looks like the iphone version
I dont have either phone (TD2 or Pro2)... TF3D allows you just to check status of that particular contact... am I right so far??? also it will not allow you to comment etc.. on that status.
But what most of us will like is some something similar to the twitter tab, a complete status update of all your friends (most recent) and allows you to comment etc.. without the need to open an app or a browser... wishfull thinking maybe
HTC shouldn't be doing anything now except getting the WM6.5 rom for the Diamond 2 released.
yep. like i said though. best bet so far is the mobile site atm. the x.facebook.com is better than the m.facebook version.
ps it seems microsoft have updated the facebook app on marketplace. I check the version numbers of both and the new one is 1.1 but they both look the same to me

I just tried it in mini opera 4.2, and it's not recognizing the address. Is the domain still live?

Consider fring. It has a facebook add-in (although I don't use it so can't recommend). I do like fring for voip and integrating social networking functions in one place, though. Try it, you might like it.

Seems like whatsapp is serious into getting onto our phones

Those in the whatsapp beta for Android should update your software ASAP, because they just put in push functionality for everyone with a 2.2 phone. Is this the only software so far not from google to actually use the 2.2 push function? (C2DM and the likes do not count)
how is it different to what its doing now?? i shall update soon after i finish charging

It doesn't poll like the old version anymore, and after some testing, I am getting my messages a little faster, because there is usually a 10-20 second delay when the app is sleeping, but this time it's like a 2-3 second after my friend sends me the text via whatsapp.
ahh right so there would be better battery life too??
Is the beta app available? Have they mentioned a release date?
Thanks

Whatsapp is probably one of the most useful apps for someone coming from a blackberry and misses BBMs. The difference is the speed but the main upside is that it's crossplatformed. Also the app is good for people that travel and have an open wifi spot. Free messaging to friends back home is well worth it.

Nope, but it should be within the next few months, it's already very stable other than some of the extra stuff like backgrounds, etc.

Yeah, since I have quite a few friends with an iphone and BB, I'm able to send them messages via my data plan.
AppBrain's Fastweb Installer uses C2DM too for installation of applications from your PC browser.
Anything that uses C2DM is immediately interesting, I'll check it out!

It's not using the same type of 2.2 push unfortunately.
hows it different?
EDIT: also seems like there are sometimes big delays between messages. whatsapp keeps disconnecting in the new version
I had to revert back to an older verison I believe. Newest version yesterday kept logging me off also and messages were stalled until I sent one out then they'd all come in.
Looked on the changelog and they took off the "Push Notifications"
Currently running: v1.0.6138
I'm using whatsapp on 2.1. working pretty well so far. ... thinking of getting 2.2 but no sense UI ROM for hero yet.
can we have a link to the apps apk?
Aww man, they removed push notifications via C2DM and the reason was they need to give google a quota? I have no idea what that means.
http://beta.whatsapp.com/test/7/WhatsApp.html
* google push disabled -- we need quota from google
really, what's the difference/advantage of using C2DM. i dont understand what's going on in the background.
Yepp.... just downloaded the APK from the link provided above... You can download and install it, but when it asks for your display name, you will get a message that says "Unauthorized beta user, DO NOT E-MAIL US", or something like that.
That's too bad because I loved it on my BB to chat with my iPhone friends, you would think that it would be easier and faster to create an app for Android and it would already be out in the market !!
it works!! everyone gets that message just wait till tommorrow and try again and it will work. Heaps of people have had success using this method. dont give up so easily
updated yesterday and they've been approved for the push notification via GOOGLE's c2dm.
Only thing i've noticed is that the app unlike iPhone's version doesn't time out while it's in the background. So it seems like you're always logged in. This could be corrected by a task manager app to kill the app but once you receive a new message it auto logs you on and double check marks the message as read.

[Q] 3G internet-based sms client?

You know how tethering with PDANet allows you to use the sms client on your computer? Is there a similar app that connects via wifi/3g? When I'm at work I hate typing on that tiny-ass keyboard when I'm sitting at a full-size computer.
I use Google Voice when possible but I don't want my friends to need two phone numbers for me. I suppose I could just use GV as the primary...
Any ideas?
Look for smshare. I just found it three days ago, and it's awesome!

That looks pretty neat. No usb cable required?
No, no cables required.
The Data exchange is done over 2G or 3G Network.
But SMS isn't much data, so it won't hurt your Data limit.

Interesting... will check it out.
I have also tried bloove now, but i must say it is very limited if you use the free version.
No auto-Sync feature for the android app: You always have to start the app on your phone that the sms are sent. And also SMS are not stored if you have edited them on the webinteface.
The App has to be opened on your phone while you send the sms on the webinteface.
Smshare has all these features, but it's main problem is that the Addon is only available for Chrome right now, and until now it is not possible to send SMS directly from smshare's Webinterface. But according to smshares blog it will "soon" be possible to send SMS also through the webinterface. So i hope tis problem will be solved soon.

Yes, that is how things are working, we're going to add "always running" option in future versions.

[Q] Windows Live Messenger?

Hi everyone!
I haven't seen anyone talking about "windows live messenger", nor videos and just screens about a "future messenger".
Well, there is or there is not an oficial Windows Live Messenger?
Thanks!

Bwahaha so true. Mind you, it's alot better after the updates. Notifications seem to work fine.
I still cant get it to run at all, so also looking for an integrated "official" version.
i.e. at a minimum it should have the same integration Facebook does. I dont get how they can be missing that considering how "social" messenger is now.
Anyway. Fingers crossed we get something soonish.
(How can i skive of work if i cant pretend i am working from my phone?)
The lack of a first party Wlm client was one of the reasons i didn't get a wp7 device.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
This is not the Official Messenger app, it's just the only one at the moment. I know what miyowa said but they didn't say they were in charge of the official WLM but that Microsoft asked them to create a WLM app (certainly as an alternative until the official one is ready).
Trust me it wouldn't be called "messenger by miyowa", it would be published by Microsoft and it wouldn't be that ****. Also there would be a mention of it and a download link for WP7 on their official WL for Mobile page (you can select a device at the top): http://www.windowsliveformobile.com/en-us/windowsphone/default.aspx
The Zune HD version is functional but ugly so my guess is they went from porting it to working on a Live Messenger for WP7 similar to the iPhone one with social networks integrated.
As awesome as the Metro UI is, what's offered now just doesn't work with WLM (seriously check that Zune HD app, it's very ugly), they need to keep it close to the desktop version as people are used to it. I'm sure the official app will be there before the Mango update.

Bull. Even the high ranking MS execs I've spoken to refer me to the Miyowa client as official. I have no doubt there will be an actual usable client in the future, but for now it is the official one.
Microsoft would be stupid enough to let them use "Messenger by Miyowa"?
Wouldn't that be just "Windows Live Messenger"?
Even iOS has an official client. And it's not "by miyowa".
Yeah we need a proper one that can at least run backgrounded. I dont find it to be that bad since I usually leave my on at home and rarely need to log into it remotely

it does push notifications so you will know when you have a message. Never have been an IM kinda user so it doesn't bother me, but the one that's there does the basic features.
Microsoft teams have more faith in ios than wp7 it seems. Now there is even denote for ios. The reasons to get wp7 over an ios device if on att or Verizon... Well there hardly are any...

There's a new WLM app called Li'Messenger. It doesn't have notifications but maybe worth a try since the miyowa one is a bit rubbish.
I think its getting pulled out of the marketplace. So i suggest to go get it now before it's gone.

i read its going to be removed... i just installed it, works and looks a lot better than miyowa's version.
now it just needs multitasking to run in the background
why would it be pulled? given the amount of twitter clients about... i don't see what reason MS would have to remove it...

That was my initial reaction to the rumor also - but seeing as the app is free, what would he gain from this? Checking the app it also seems to be as well behaved as the developers claims it is, i.e. it sends data directly to Live. No intermediary servers involved so it's not like he's stealing account data either.
My guess is that MS doesn't like the fact it's using certain logos and/or Live API's, but rather than removing it they should in that case take it over as their official client as it's already much better than the other one.
Li'Messenger seems to be removed. wish I coulda tried this. looks really good. I hope for a better one than the current selection very soon.

Unacceptable losses of SMS

Wondering whether I am the only one with this issue
I SMS a lot and like keeping the SMS on my device. I had recently an extremely unpleasant surprise: my total list of conversations was back to... ONE conversation with my last SMS and... That's it!!! Thousands of SMS gone
I happen to save everything with mIQ and hopefully it's not lost. However I had the experience already twice in the past 2 weeks so I am wondering:
Is this a feature from Android? Big SMS file --> autoarchive? If then how do I disable it or how do I recover my SMS?
Is it a bug? In which case this is extremely severe and not serious for such an expensive device or for an OS that is expected to be a safe one
Is it from Samsung implementation? Or Android itself?
Please share your experience, I'd like to know if I am the only one and if there is any solution (My "old" Touch Pro 2 with WM 6.5 never lost a single SMS although having more than 30,000 SMS in the box)
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Am I the only one? Several years without any loss os SMS on different WM devices and I wiuld be the only one losing them on my shiny new device with the wonderful android OS?

Ive never let my SMS get to more than 500, mainly because I don't like scrolling through congressional. Never had this issue though.

you really shouldnt keep that many sms around anyhow with android, its likely to cause some issues but did you check the settings on the sms app? mine has settings to delete threads after a certain number and is set to 200 by default.
I use a program called Backup to Gmail. Works excellent.
It let's me delete sms'es on the phone while my Gmail account keeps them all even if I delete them on the phone.
It can also restore sms'es.MMS restore is not supported yet but backup works good.

Yes of course... Besides If I had it set at 200 I would expect to keep at leats 200, not 1
I shouldn't let many with Android ? So with WM6.5 it's ok to have 20,000 SMS but Android cannot handle them ? Hum... Somethng is seriously wrong

Thanks, I know a few of these. Without being able to restore --> kind of useless for me... Actually as far as I remember some CAN restore
I am already using mIQ that works ok (though a bit slow to handle too many SMS)
why would you even want that many, its not like you are going to read through 20k sms
It's funny like the answers are more about having less SMS or why wanting that many rather than why the SMS client or the OS Re broken...
Hey man why do u need a car, just take your bicycle!
I have more than a thousand conta ts I converse regularly with. Then add a certain number of sms per conversation and u get there
Anyway I do not even have that many on my Tab... Far less than on my previous device. And this disappointing device/os/client combination cannot even manage them... What do you expe t me to do or say? Go back to my TP2? Honestly this is ridiculous

give handcent a try and use their backup service, ive never had a problem with the stock sms app, currently theres around 300txts for 20 contacts, and 50 or so for the rest.
No problem here as I don't keep a lots of sms. But had a problem with new sms going into the wrong contact profile. So, have to be extra careful not to reply to the wrong person.
Anyone faces the same problem?

Deleting would help more than the purchase of an iPad, as that uses the 3g chip to get a data connection, while both the texting and voice service are ignored.
That said... I never got this issue, but my brother has a relatively similar one: long messages tend to be split, mixed and (why not, since we are at it) partly deleted. That is on Eclair using an Xperia X10 mini pro.
Never had this kind of issue when i was at my peak of sms usage: store on the MMC, and there you go, thousands of sms on a puny Nokia 3650.
