I find the official AIM app to be a huge battery drain!
Is Meebo or anything else better with battery consumption?
Trillian uses push notifications.
Anything free or is trillian worth it??
I beta tested Trillian on Android and loved it. Been a PC user of Trillian for about a decade as well.
eBuddy, Trillian, BeeJiveIM, Meebo
i use to use beejive on blackberry and loved it. anyone tried on android? its $5 to get it. IMO
I just want to reiterate that Trillian has push! hehe
Bought Trillian finally getting rid of my beta version. Works awesome.
I find trillian to be really buggy. Some times my contacts do not show up until an app restart id done, connectivity issues and a few minor things.
My favorite IM to use is meebo.

mine is running just fine. i know they had connectivity issues on NS release having to do with changes in Gingerbread, but those have been fixed (and rather quickly too)

I use BeeJive both on iPhone and here and I love it. Very nice, looks great and works well.
I always find Trillian to have disconnected itself or shut down after a while. Been using eBuddy and like it. It's easy on the battery and free.
Ebuddy is good for me

i like ebuddy but it drains the battery quick and sets your profile pic as their logo. i use it at home when plugged in
I've used Trillian since the beta, and it's always been great.

Imo.im doesn't seem to drain battery for me. Give it a try.
imo.im is the best

Trillian has always worked for me. Before that I used Hi AIM.

I use Trillian and like it, but I've never tried the alternatives, so I can't fairly say I think it's the best. Good enough that I haven't had cause to switch, anyway. Black theme, so that's a bit of a battery saver on a SAMOLED device. And since it suspends in the background and relies on C2DM push notifications, it uses close to zero battery when it's not the active application. (Note that you have to check battery saving mode in the settings for this to work, though.)

I couldn't care less about chat, but it's nice to see the push notifications. Maybe their rating will finally improve now since most of the bad reviews seemed to be because of the lack of chat.
Thanks for the info!
Wow, great news. I was talking today with a friend how companies stopped givin' love to android apps while giving better stuff to iPhone users.
Yup cause iPhone apps cost money but android apps are free

Facebook's iPhone app ain't free?
BTW, does push notifications work on Eclair? I heard somewhere they only work on Froyo. And if they do work on Eclair, how do I activate em? I told a friend to post something on my wall and I didn't received the notification so I guess it ain't working on my phone and I have 2.1.

the android facebook app has been terrible until recently its finally starting to come around. thats the only thing i truly miss about my iphone was the better facebook app....
your post doesnt even make sense in the context of this discussion.
Oh im sorry I thought you said APPS in general not just this app. My bad

I been using tweetdeck, their notification refresh rate is faster. I think fb app is every 30 mins, and td can be refreshed down to 3 mins.

Wait, so push is not for notifications , like comments and stuff.
whats the use then really?
dammit
FB said push notifications on works on devices 2.2 or higher...... DAMM YOU SAMSUNG!
Roms, never wait for a rom, do it yourself.. there are 100's of roms out there, play with one
and brick ur phone XD
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
good thing i havent used an eclair ROM for a while already. push notifications work fine for me on the froyo ROM im running.
whats the best froyo rom?
mehh..
almost imposable to brick your phone.. you can for sure mess something up, but there are soo many ways to get into recovery mode to install another rom, install a different rom, or even go back to stock.
not to mention, Google made Android open source for a reason, so that people can mess with what they want.
anyways, i have tried lots of 2.2 roms, and I am glad i have, since Samsung will take too long to update to 2.2 on their own. can't wait for 2.3 and even more battery saving.
Best froyo rom for me its Ddpj6 Doc.03 no bugs at all with themes addons.

Im curious but as an example if I have twitter, plume, tweetcaster, and Seesmic all on my phone, and they all check twitter do they drain battery more then if I just had one twitter app.

Do you use the all? Unless your using them all at the same time for some reason it seems unnecessary to have them all running. It's ok if they are all installed and you pick and choose which one you use depending on whatever but its when they all are tying to access resources that you will run into batter issues.

I use them due to the different layout looks and feels and am trying to figure which one has the best functionality.
I know they all do the same thing, but it wasn't until now that it hit me, they all devour battery everytime they update themselves
I don't know why but I had this assumption that since they all dip into twitter they would kinda share the gathered info

Hi,
It depends on the app which you are installing. If you will install more animation based apps and more images based app then the battery will drain soon.
I did that at first too. I guess I was always good about removing the unnecessary apps before battery drainage was a problem. As far as a Twitter app goes I've been using twidroyd pro for quite a while now and I love it. The widget really pulls my home screen together. I switched to seesmic when Twitter banned twidroyd but I didn't like the widget. Is that a weird reason not to use an app?

Probably the only complaint I have about my new phone is the lack of a 100% working Facebook experience.
The Facebook app seems to periodically just stop updating/issuing notifications for periods at a time.
TweetDeck works for awhile but then suddenly loses my settings.
Seemic doesn't automatically update/issue notifications at all plus I don't like the fact that the updates from multiple services aren't integrated in one stream like Tweetdeck does.
Not sure what other options I have at this point.
Mine seems to work fine

One of the things that worked super well for me on my old phone was "fim" but sadly, I dont think that its available for android, just winmo. Hopefully the devs decide to port it
If you go Settings->Account and Sync, is background data/auto-sync turned on?
also down where it says "Manage Accounts" make sure it's turned on also.

yup and yup.
I actually have two facebook items listed here.. the first seems to be for that social updates its called Facebook SocialUpdates when I go in to its details. I have that turned off. When its turned on it generates session expired errors and when I gave it my login it won't accept the password (I've verified the pw is correct).
The other just says Facebook in its details and that is on.
edit: maybe there's another app its conflicting with... frustrating.

Are you running stock? If you're rooted, what I would try is making a back up of your apps using Titanium Backup and then uninstalling all your social networking apps that could be conflicting with it and then reinstall only facebook from the market and see if that helps. Again, that's just what I would try. Good luck
I'm running stock, but I think I'll take your advice anyway and uninstall all the social network apps... can't hurt.
I would have to agree with you, DarienA, of all three OS's, facebook for android is the worst. I mostly speak about the options available in this app version. I am a little biased as my previous phone had FB 2.0 and it was very nice, plus the push notifications were almost instant. Just my two cents on facebook for android.

It'd be nice to be able to tag photos. I don't think you can do that with the iphone FB app either though.

Well upon further investigation, you can only remove posts or comments that originated from the app...at least that's what I've seen so far.

I am curious what IM app people are having success with on their Sensation. I have used Trillian in the past but even with C2DM active I am loosing about 9% of battery per hour. I never had this issue with other phones. This I am curious what IM apps you have been successfully using that do not eat battery life. It needs to support AIM and Facebook.
Thanks!
Try Ebuddy.... i havent used it on Sensation as of yet... but on my DHD, it worked perfectly...and about draining battery... well the smartphones have oversmart batteries.... it used to drain everytime.. dont know if it was ebuddy or Whats App... but for sure it was HTC HUB and Friend's stream
I use the IM+ free and work great, dont have the battery problem, because you have the notification mode and when you go out of IM+ you have still the mesage....

imo.im - Doesn't drain battery to me, and no silly account registrations.
Trillian!! have used it for computer for years, great on android as well.
I say imo. Very stable and battery drain is minimal

beejive is pricey, but it's great and uses push notifications to save juice.
Hey, for those who uses trillian, any idea how to "reset" the groups? It seems that it is not following the groups i have within msn, and using its own contacts grouping system.
Use Trillian. It's IMHO best on Android.

I use Trillian, and I don't have any battery drain issues. Actually today my battery went 5 hours at 100% battery lol, I thought it was broken until it finally start decreasing.
Trillian also works very well for me!
I did a search in the "infuse" forum and couldn't find a thread.
What is the best app out there to lock, clean and/or find your phone? The best one on the market looks to be "Lookout Mobile Security". Any ideas?
Lookout is what I run, its pretty nice and it works. I have the free version but there is a paid one, I believe it has one or 2 more feature. The free one with give you app scanning, lost or stolen phone location (tested and works) and a quite nice feature of sending a siren noice to your phone if you happen to misplace your phone while on vibrate.

I've got SeekDroid on my phone.
Phonelocator pro. Everything it's done by text command, nothing running in the background. Battery life has no affect unlike others. Also if your rooted copy the apk to your system and u could auto enable GPS.
Samsung Infuse 4G
i love lookout mobile security. you can track your phone on their website. and you can make it "scream" if you cant find it, even if its on silent. it also has an "antivirus" which im not sold on (its linux, its not a window "virus"). it has more advanced features too if you pay for them.
I'm using SeekDroid. I was using Lookout before but felt like it was using up my battery life.

Actually its not really antivirus, just similar to anti-malware, like rouge apps
Phone locator pro is the best out there. It even turns gps on if you have it off
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
well it's a three way tie between Lookout, Seekdroid and Phone Locator.
I run Lookout as it does a pretty good job of anti-malware, keeps a running backup online so you can restore from a specified date, live tracks your device, "screams" the device to help you find it, and gives you the ability to remotely wipe it from their site.

Don't just look in your device threads for what would be a universal android app. You will have better results and more options. I can't give thoughts on any of them though as I don't use them, never lost a $600 dollar anything.

We do not which one is better for android has huge various devices.
And no app can cover all of them.
We have try this app with Galaxy S3/S4/Nexus 5, maybe you can download and have a try...
