Update just got pushed to my D2G.
Find it here on megaupload ... I can't post URLs yet, so sorry about the format.
www[dot]megaupload[dot]com/?d=R7THKZ2V
Blur_Version.2.4.29.A956.Verizon.en.US.zip
(I guess the name of the file is the currently installed one. The date of the file was today, and the contents mention 2.4.330)
I had root when I updated, and the update succeeded ... however I lost root after the update.
z4root re-established root.
Versions after update are:
System version: 2.4.330.A956.Verizon.en.US (new)
Android version: 2.2
Baseband version: N_01.48.05R (new)
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-g9e2c63d (new)
PRL version: 52169
great thanks for that i have been looking for this bc i cant get the update over wifi only afaik, have you tried using z4root after the update?
Yes - z4root works fine after the new update.
I just downloaded the update OTA and tried to install it, i got an update failed message not sure why. Do you have to restore the phone to factory settings (unroot) before you can install the update?
I watched my phone try and install it this time and an icon appeared on the sceeen that looked like a cigarette box with an arrow coming out of it.. what does this mean? haha
i wouldnt think you would have to do a hard reset before you do the update

Mine was rooted, but I had not changed any of the standard packages.
The only thing I used root for was to underclock it for slightly better battery life.
If you have removed/replaced any packages on the phone, you probably need to restore them back to the system default again. A device wipe might not even fix that as the packages will still be the replaced versions.
Hmm i froze a bunch of programs with titanium back and up and renamed a few things with root explorer , perhaps this is why.
Official OTA update from VZW will always fail if you have changed anything at all in the system directory. The updater script has checksum routines for all parts of the system and must be completely stock or it won't work.
This is true for all new Motorola phones from VZW.
^^^ that is exactly the case! Restore all stock and try again.
Being rooted will not fail the update, but altering anything in /system will.

Ok hmm i have made various restore points with rom manager since starting, im just not sure how to restore my backups? Where do you go within the rom manager directory?
I deleted some stock apps would a hardreset restore them? So I could do the update
No, hardreset will not bring the deleted stock apps back. You need to manually restore them.
Hmm anyone on how to restore your old back ups using rom manager? .. i cant seem to find a decent guide
Anybody noticing lower call volume since the update?

with koush's bootstrap recovery it's just reboot into recovery. go to backup and restore and choose your backup to restore. If you only have Rom manager you might be out of luck because afaik it's recovery doesn't work on the D2, D2G, or DX.
My wifes droid 2 global had lots of apps frozen. Update installed fine from OTA. Lost root, havn't tried to reroot yet.

I'm having some trouble restoring backups. I recently reflashed my phone. All backups were verified. I have used the help button and redownloaded busybox. I have rooted my phone and given root privileges to TiB. I have usb debugging mode enabled too. When I batch restore, the batch completes as if there wasn't a problem, but none of the apps are installed. I thought that there might be something wrong with the backups even though they passed verification so I moved them off of the sd card. I downloaded some random apps from the market and backed them up. They won't restore either. Same error. I tried restoring my phone to stock and going through the same steps and I have the same problem. I've used TiB for awhile now and haven't had any problems up until now. Does anyone have any ideas?
happened to me once.
reinstall from the matket of TIBU fixxed everything.
The first debloat guide posted for the captivate falsely stated that TiB restored the app
When I was attempting to revert to stock firmware for the recent OTA I discovered that TiB only saves the app's state and not the app itself
I think all of the original APKs are listed on the cognition download page
I got it fixed. I tried reinstalling TiB from the market. It didn't work. I was trying 3rd party apps. Not ones cooked into the rom. I ended up having to do a master clear with odin. It's kind of a brute force method, but at least its working again.

Back when the pimp my captivate was written, TB was not able to restore what it backed up. It does now. I reverted back to stock after the OTA update and since I was in the "try to break my phone mood" I went ahead and did the Cognition 2.1.6. Right before I started messing with the phone, I backed up everything and anything that TB would allow me to, did a nandroid as well. WHen the time to restore came, everything I had before is right back where it was before I started. Albeit reading all the oops, TB can't restore jack, yadda yadda I wasn't too worried.
I have the same problem. I recently flashed to froyo 2.2 and the TiB won't let me do the restore...I tried to redone the OneClick Rom but It didn't work on 2.2 so I still need help here.

As far as I know, u can restore apps within the same "version", not between versions. You can restore the apps, but data can't be guaranteed.
I did the update just now and thought everything went well. This is my first time. Someone else put infused 2.1.0 on phone and everything that goes along with that. I followed the directions in beginning of post to manually do the update. Now all my root apps are telling me i'm not rooted. I rebooted, took battery out and back in. I have read entire Infused post and no one has had this issue? Before i started i went into ROM manager and made a back up first.
Not sure what to do now??

Just do a reboot, all your app will work after that

I did reboot. I have NO ROOT after this update but everything else is fine. All apps are there...but my root apps say i don't hve root. I d/l root checker from mkt and it says it;'s there but the binary isn't up to date or installed incorrectly. within SU i tried updating the binary and it fails.????

ok. i uninstalled the update to SU. rebooted. all Root apps still don't work and say i'm not rooted. NOW though. SU doesn't even come on and say denied. ....
Rooted just means you have the su app and can give su permissions to apps. If apps are asking for su permissions and not getting them it's the same as not being rooted as far as the app is concerned. Go into you super user app and see what has permissions and what doesn't, try to reset the settings.
update 2.1.0-2.2.3 LOST ROOT???
Just a recap...i was rooted running infused 2.1.0 and had and used rooted apps. I did the update 2.1.0-2.2.3 infused update then all of a sudden i couldn't get into titanium backup or any of my rooted apps. every time i open one SU denies it. I d/l root checker from mkt and it finds SU 3.0 on phone but says im either not rooted correctly or not at all. it gives me a log but i can't make heads or tails of it..so , if someone could I can PM you the log. I checked my SU permisions/settings...it should work...doesn't ands won't allow a thing. How did I lose ROOT? I followed the manual instructions in post.
All of this is related to me updating to 2.2.3 infused ROM. however, i have read the eintire forum front to back twice and no one has lost root because of the update...I even tried installing busybox but it fails because it says i am NOT rooted. I uninstalled the update to SU 3.0..that didn't work.
GTG-- I PM'd you days ago asking for your input on the upgrade but didn't hear back...upgrade done...issue...lost root....any ideas??
upgrade infused 2.1.0-2.2.3
Anyone out there with an idea? I haven't heard of anyone losing root having done this upgrade. Could i possibly still be rooted but maybe a setting got messed up somewhere? a file moved??
Still looking for answers...thanks
I have been through this many times before, you can do two usually the root access comes back after a reboot, since it didn't for you here are couple things you should consider to do
1) uninstall superuser than download again from market. Or
1) flash the rom again from scratch

well, since SU came from root and is a system app and apprently i am not rooted so i can not remove a system app I can uninstall the SU upgrade i did from mkt...which i did and rebooted, no luck. are you or anyone familiar with the "root checker" app? i can send a log if anyone can make sense out of it.
maruf010 i earlier post i said this is the first time i have tried anything like this with my phone ...i had soneone else root and install infused 2.1.0...i only attempeted the upgrade so...wonder if you can PM me and if you can maybe walk me through your second option?
I'm running out of ideas bro, I consider my self a "Rom flashing junky " flashing from one rom to another since my first captivate! let's do this again step by step, hoping this time it'll work..... make sure to transfer "titanium backup " folder to your computer before doing this. You can use it back later.
1) run gtg's back to stock using Odin
2) root the phone using super one click
3) drop all three the the new rom(2.1.0),
update v2.2.3, and the community kernel
4) download sgs kernel flasher from market
5) flash the community kernel, wait about 10 min let it do its thing till your phone comes back to live
5) power off the phone
6) using 3 button combo go to RED clockworkmod
7) install zip from SD card (flash the actual rom 2.1.0)
8) flash the update ( from 2.1.0 to v2.2.3)
8) finally do a wipe/factory reset
9) install titanium backup from market
10) restore your "missing app with data" only.
I know you did everything what i just said but my suggestion is to you ,do this again.

upgrade 2.1.0-2.2.3 LOST ROOT
Well, lesson to all. make a back up no matter what you do. Shouldn't of had to with an update but....since i did do a back up ..I AM BACK to 2.1.0 where i guess the saying is true...if it aint broke don't fix it. all is well..root back!. If I try going back to 2.2.3 i will do full install.
Thanks to everyone who had an opinion. weirdest thing ever...still bugs me why the ONLY this wrong with the upgrade was i seemingly lost root.
Glad u found a fix bro!
upgrade 2.1.0-2.2.3-LOST ROOT
Thanks!!! I'm all happy again. If anyone else has this issue...i really do beleive it is SU. Look at it on the mkt..since the 3.0 upgrade there have been many issues. I uninstalled the 3.0 SU upgrade and now i'm back to 2.6.3.1 BUT my binary is 3.0. I have yet to trythe infused upgrade again...IF (and when) i do it may not work because of my binary BUT all is well back on unfused 2.1.0!! No way to uninstall binary upgrade to SU i guess.
IF IT AINT BROKE--DON'T FIX IT..YEAH RIGHT ! LIKE WE ALL WON'T KEEP ROMMING!
upgraded infused 2.1.0-2.2.3 lost root
I am still having this issue when trying to upgrade infused from 2.1.0-2.2.3!!! Can someone answer this? The upgrade goes fine but then SU thinks im not rooted and then i can not restore any back ups cause titanium won't work. I haven't tried full zip only because i do not want to have to fetch all my apps again...zzz. I t looks like a lot of people have moved on to MIUI but i want to conquer this first..hahha
NOw, in the CWM instructions it says if you have a voodoo folder on your sd card delete it..well, that is for first time install....if i am trying the upgrade should i still delete the voodoo folder on my sd card? then move on to steop 7?? I reallly doi not want to delete something i may need. Inside that folder it is a log folder but in that log folder there are some CWM-recoveries..???
oh, and not sure if this matters all all but whn flashing upgrades or full ROM does it matter what you have your file system mounted as??
Anyone out there?? I just tried the update again and same thing...SU won't work...tried going into CWM and , download rom, super user, and i d/l SU from ther but then it says press ok to boot into recovery and finish unstalling...i press ok and nothing happens. I manually go into recovery...then what? Where did the download go and how do i finish installing SU??
PLEASE anyone...also, there is an option in recovery to "apply the update" Never used that one before...i just install from SD then pick the update...do i have to "apply update" after install then reboot?
I installed CWM 6 then tried to restore an earlier backup which only partially worked (I couldn't use Google Play anymore so wanted to go back to the beginning) and now my Transformer is currently un-usable (now stuck at "eee Pad" screen).
When I did a restore to before I started messing with it, it says it can't find the .android secure file that I apparently need and bombs the rest of the restore out. It looks as though it's hard coded to only look for a specific directory for the file so it never finds it on the Micro SD card.
Any way to get this running again?
UPDATE: Got it running, used a later backup. unfortunately that means that the Google Play store does not work. How do I fix that?

Make sure that you can log into Talk, I think it is required for Play Store to work. If you are not able to log into Talk successfully, then you may need to wipe completely with something like the Superwipe Full script from Revolution thread or formatting partitions in the CWM mounts option. I had this issue before where Talk wouldn't log me in and therefore Play Store wouldn't work properly. As far as your backup goes, there are only 2 or 3 recoveries available, this being one, that can also back up the boot area which includes the kernel. Is it possible that your old backup was one that didn't backup the kernel also?

How would I be able to determine that?
AFAICT I don't have Talk installed (I might have un-installed it at some point) so maybe I can re-install it and then play might work?

You said you went back to stock HC and Talk is part of the stock ROM, i.e. not normally uninstallable. What recovery did you use to make the HC backup? Also, you would have seen which partitions were being backed up before you allowed it and may have had to choose 'boot' along with 'system' and 'data' to get a backup that when restored would be the proper system setup, i.e. HC ROM with HC kernel, etc. If you uninstalled Talk you would have had to do it with Titanium backup or some other root app.

If you can find an nvflash version of whatever ROM you want, then that would be the best choice. You will lose your data because everything on internal will get reformatted. It requires you to be able to connect to a PC through adb and in APX mode. I used a tool from BRK (his latest I think version 8 or something) that will let you take whatever ROM or firmware you want and it will fix it up for you and nvflash it. It has the necessary drivers for the PC also and can do a custom recovery and give you root also. I did it with Asus stock ICS 9.2.1.27 and all went well. His tool applies an older recovery though which you will want to update right away to something newer. You can choose to do everything stock first including recovery and then root later when you have stuff working. Here is the link to brk's tool:

You can download the latest firmware from Asus.
Unzip it to get teh 2nd zip file from inside.
Flash that with CWM recovery. After it's done you'll be on stock, unroot with stock recovery. Just start over with the root process but you'll be up to date with the latest available ROM from Asus.
Another option is Easy Flasher.
Hey - I've seen a ton of different posts with respect to OTA updates, and I'm a little confused...
I'm a droid n00b (don't kill me please, i'm still on iphone until my contract is up). It was a LONG time ago since I rooted my GF's charge. She's been getting the annoying update notice from vzw.
I know how to disable the update notice...good there
1) My question(s) is (since she does what to do the update) is it easier to bring the phone back to stock, update and root again.
OR
2) is there a DEV root update to do?
If she uses Titanium back up and backs up her stuff (i'm not sure what that does and does NOT back up) she can restore it again via titanium back up online or does that create a file on the phone that needs to be backed up? Sorry, I just never used that app before.
I rooted her phone using ODIN and the rom Charge-Eclipse-v2.0

it might be a good idea to do a full backup via TiBu, but I don't think it is necessary. when installing Eclipse FP8, you can do it via CWM (do have that installed, if not, then get it). then, when in CWM, mount system, wipe cache, dalvik, then flash.

Hello,
I'm a Canadian user (6045i) that installed the US firmware (7SR4-UE40) a while ago. I'm rooted (flashed SuperSU in Recovery mode).
Today, I finally decided that I wanted to get the latest firmware update (5.0.2-7SRA-UEA2). I did a full unroot with SuperSU, rebooted, checked that the phone was indeed without root access and tried to get the OTA update. Every time I try, it says my system is up to date. Why is that? What can I do to get the update?
Thanks.
So, I'm the only one with that problem?
Download UEA2 and install it like you did with UE40? That's what I've done to get the latest US firmware. We're not going to see the US OTA updates through a Canadian carrier. We have to install these ourselves, manually, just as you did with UE40.

I thought of doing that, but if I recall well, someone mentioned that doing this, you were missing some of the stuff that was installing while doing it with the OTA. Can someone confirm this?
Did you notice some improvement with your phone since you installed the latest update? As for me, the double tap never really works well (well maybe i out of 4 times), this is something I'd like to see improved...

As far as I know the firmware's posted here by users are the "exact" image you would get if you did a OTA update yourself. Improvement, a bit I guess. The double tap can still be an issue once and a while. I find a reboot solves the issue, but only for a while. The Chinese rom was the best performing firmware all around, but changed too much internally (files system) for my liking, so I went back to stock UEA2, with root.

Hope that helps.....
Thanks! If I were doing this as an OTA, I won't have to wipe my device and start all over with the apps. Is there a need to wipe everything with this update? I did wipe everything when I installed the US firmware (from the Canadian) the 1st time, but I'm not too crazy to start all over again...
Try without wiping apps/data, should work fine. If not, you'll have to wipe everything. As your rooted you should have Titanium Backup installed, and doing routine backups of your apps/data. I have my apps/data backed up every night on a automatic schedule at 2 in the morning. It's always there on my external sd card should I have a issue. Makes swapping roms / firmwares a non issue.

I do have Titanium. So, yes, I'll be able to come back to where I was quickly if I have to wipe everything. I was not rooted when I installed the US firmware at first, so I had to reinstall everything. Didn't think of Titanium before asking this time....
Thanks again!
