ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0? - Captivate General

Hey, I read that the new CWM is up to 3.0 and adds some new features, it is not yet available on ROM Manager, but should be soon. Has anyone fared to try it?

Maybe if u could post the file here, I'll give it a try.

Well I'm not too familar as to how the recoveries work. Just cause it is out there does it mean it will work with any phone?

Nothing special for us that i can see.
This is my captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Adobe Flash 10?

I'm running Gumbo 1.5c right now.
I've been wanting to upgrade to a 2.1 Rom for some time but I've sort of hesitated until the Sprint Release happens. This, of course, looks like its going to be another month before it comes to fruition. So, I figured I would go ahead and take the leap. I do have one question though;
Do any roms support full Flash yet? I would like to see flash work in my browser.
If our browser will not support flash can we port one over from a phone that does once we load 2.1? The NexusOne has flash, right?

Oh, one more quick question!
Can I use SetCPU with the ROM? Or do I need to flash another kernel?

Best thing to do is just try it i'm running darchlegendv4-2 and it is fast and in my opinion probably just as good as the 2.1 update
Ah. Rather than make a new thread I'll continue to post in here first:
Can someone link me to the news/weather widget APK that the NexusOne has. I know someone ported it over for 1.5 and I really use it a lot.
Thanks!

Flash works, but streaming is problematic. It works for some sites/applications but for the most part even when it does work it's like watching a slide show. I'm afraid that the Hero just doesn't have enough horsepower to stream flash video via the browser.
i think the current clock speed probably doesnt have enough power but if we can OC it then we'll probably get somewhere

Full flash or just flash lite?
How would I go about adding full flash to my Rom?
Full flash is useless on this phone... Like waiting for a stripper that shows up 2 hours late and then is fat and ugly to boot.
I dont know why people want flash, You get a more robust browsing experience?
Well a slower one too i suppose.
i thought we werent supposed to use SetCPU for the newer ROMS cause it has a built in power manager

That is correct. You beat me to it. I also heard that SetCPU is not compatible with the latest jumbo kernel in these CDMA Hero 2.1 ROMs anyway.
So I assume that flash is something that must be cooked into a rom, not something that can be put in retro actively? Is this correct?

However long it takes you to get an Evo? If you can figure out how to overclock this phone Flash might have a snowball's chance of being usable on the Hero.
My problem with flash is that it is processor intensive and just sucks the battery out of the device. I just turn it off, no matter how feature complete it is. Also, If I have to overclock my device to get it even run "at-par", this will suck my batter down even more.

Hello All
This ROM is a compilation of my last week. So many hours were drained on this sucker but here it is.
**currently this is only available at it will be out to the public in 3-...CLOSED AWAITING PUBLIC RELEASE VERSION OF ROM
I don't hate you!
Do we just install this through custom recovery then?
OH I see, so what if we dont go back to stock with odin?
I see two different versions here.
Can you tell me what's the difference in two? I know one is over clocked one by the name but I want to know what does other one does..
Thanks,

The other one has the Andromeda Kernel.
im really hoping we get something soon like the htc's have......(get roms via rom manager) and not have to go thru this backdoor route for a custom recovery image!!!
mmmmm, think I'll wait a few days more....not sure I want to create work for myself just yet on my fresh stock rom w/root....

All you have to if you are on the stock rom is extract the zip and run the bat script and you are good to go. It is very easy to do. And restoring from odin is just as easy. It is what I recommend but it should work without

Hey Hero, just wondering if your kernel gets along with the new update that came out today?
Do you have full rom for members or this kernel is it?If so does this kernel change theme also? And whats the difference between andromeda posted on xda and the one you have posted on here?
Thanx in advance.

lol there is a lot of differences. it is faster has better battery life and overclocks to 1.2 ghz. the frameworks have been optimized for more performance and battery. also there is a lot of theming to remove samsungs ugly colors. it is not just a kernel. it is a rom that instead of flashing moves files in place.

(REQ) stock tmo us 2.3.4 rooted

since there seems to be so much confusion about this update for those of us that are on stock 2.3.3 rom and are rooted and s off revolutionary , i would like to request a rooted stock version of 2.3.4 since i don't know what would happen if i try to apply this ota update with my situation. thanks
No one has it yet. Most of the people posting links to download isn't even the full ROM.
Install a custom ROM!

Full ROM isn't needed to make a rooted version of an update.
I've had a Nexus One and a Nexus S, they're quicker over there.
simple request, maybe its useless for you then don't read it ****...I don't want a custom one, I like stock and I'm sick of people like you on these forums that criticize people for wanting a stock rooted rom and don't want all the extra tweaks. Worry about what your running and not everyone else

Amen to that, about the custom ROMs...You custom ROMers are just pushing us stock ROMers further away. The only custom ROM, aside from having this one tailored to us noobs with S-oFF, CWM, and root, that I want is CM7.
Enough pushing already! We know where to go if we want a ROM. Seriously, I dont understand this peer pressure BS? Is there money involved? WTF is it? Why do people here give a crap about whether or not someone has a custom ROM over stock?

As you said, peer pressure. They must think that their way is the only way; hence, the pushing.

I agree. And those people pushing us to use custom roms must think that they're cool just cause they're using custom roms. Funny, when you go to the custom rom threads that they're pushing us to use, they have tons of issues and problems too! A lot more than the stock rom ones. And yet they tell you to install custom roms when you post having issues with the stock one, like they don't already have their own. I myself use custom roms every once in a while, I admit. But for reliability on the gps, camera, MMS size etc., I always go back to my nandroid backup. Custom roms are just for aesthetics and not too reliable as some of these fanatics are claiming. Also, my nandroid sensation with bloat removed is just as fast or even faster than most of these custom rom ones. And more reliable.

[Q] How to choose a ROM?

This is what I call a "high class problem". With so many ROMs to choose from, how does a noob like me decide. Aside from stability, we all probably have different wants and needs.
Can anyone who's checked out the majority of the available ROMs give the rest of us a rundown on the pros and cons of each ROM?
For myself, I'm looking for:
1. Basic
2. Reversible
3. No known issues with wifi, sms, battery drain, ciq, marketplace, etc.
Which one should I pic?

Like u said. To each his own. None of the roms here have major issues that I have flashed. All work and run well only issue is if there using da G's kernel which has Sod issues. Other than that flash away bruh.

you can change kernels easier than changing roms. even if a rom has his kernel, you can flash whatever kernel you like in place of it....

Other than doing a complete Nandroid backup, is there anyway to just backup your current kernel prior to flashing a new kernel? SGS KERNEL FLASHER doesn't work on the Skyrocket, and i'd like to backup my stock kernel in case I need to reflash it.

its close. if i have time this weekend you will see something drop. i have a few more tweaks i want to do before i consider it ready. internally, im already up to beta8, lol. i hope to have beta10 release as an RC1 for everyone.
From what I seen so far I seen no reason to try them though somebody has to or they never get fully debugged.
Some of the ROMs are AT&T only ..... sorry got SGH-I727R
Some of them do have Rogers ROMs but I read of Sleep of Death and losing LTE connection..... sorry too buggy and I NEED LTE or I would of got the Galaxy Nexus.
Finally what I really want is ICS and NOT ICS themed ROMs
None of them are for me but I check everyday when a ICS ROM comes out I will try it.
Finally I recommend you NEVER try Roms if you are not sure that you can restore.
I have backuped my ROMs, Apps and Data, APNs I am 95% certain I can recover from anything.
For that other 5% I have Odin and the orginal Rogers ROM
Just to agree with everyone else, you've got to try them out. There's no harm in it as long as you've done your nandroid back up, you're pretty safe when it comes to reverting back to your previous ROM and settings.
Reading the features and change logs for each of them helps alot... but it still doesn't give you a full grasp of what it has to offer until you flash and test it.

ROM that's similar to stock + improvements?

As per title, ive just bought a One S and im looking a for a ROM that is similar to stock but has improved performance features. Ive done some research and I have Trickdroid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637102 and Android Sense Stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065357.
Are there any others that I may have missed?
Also as both of these are JB roms, i presume there is no flash? Does this mean if certain sites have youtube or flash content, they will not work? Is there a workaround for this?
Thanks

Not too sure on ROMs as I use CM10. However, you can install Flash manually from the APK provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931671

Thanks for the quick reply, I found this link with the archived versions for android, http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
Hopefully the "newer" ones will also work.
The ROM zip-file for trickdroid contains com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk at least. I havnt flashed it so I dunno if it works, but it should...
