I've got a Calendar WTF question... - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Pre-amble:
Windows Phone 7, configured properly and 100% working with Exchange (e-mails set to sync back 1 month)
So, today someone asked me what day I met with someone back on December 2nd (today is December 20th).
That day I had a Calendar entry, and it IS (I confirmed) on my outlook (also setup with Exchange). I went on my phone and the Calendar item wasn't on my Calendar on the phone...
I double checked all my appointments for the past week were both on outlook/phone and they were, but it seems to get blury before the 2nd.
Anyone have any idea why some of these items are disapeering?

Did you check how many days back it will keep items?

I'm not a bonehead, but I can't find a setting for how far back the calendar goes! I can find it for e-mail (which is set to go WAY WAY back), but not for the calendar...
( I know WM6 had the setting, but can't find it on here)

Well the answer clearly is you met with them on december 2nd
now on a serious note. just looked at my calendar and went back to july and all my meetings and what not are all still there. (just in case i have no idea how exchange works) but my guess is for some odd reason you erased it from your calendar on your device.

all my calendar items are still there.

no need for people to be hostile... it could just merely be a syncing issue. this might sound a bit of a reach, but have you tried removing the exchange account and readding it?

haha, sorry about the typo, I had a few glasses of wine before my original post.
(I meant to say they asked me what time I met with someone that day)...
Anyways, the issue is still there, reconfigured the sync and absolutely no change. I've kind of narrowed it down though. It appears it will only sync the calendar back 2 weeks into the past exactly....
Is this a default setting on WP7 we can't change? (Please keep in mind inside of my e-mail sync settings on the phone, I have it configured to go back a month).

Did you go to settings/email accounts and make sure the sync calendar box is checked?

Uhh yes...
As I mentioned originally, The Calendar is syncing, and items are staying up to date (I have at least 6-8 items per day that have to be updated, and they are staying updated, theres no problem with these).
The problem is that after 2 weeks, it just removes the items off the phone (they stay on my Exchange mailbox, and stay in Calendar), the phone just removes them...
E-Mail is setup to sync a month into the past, so I'm thinking the e-mail sync past feature only applies to e-mail on the phone. I havn't been able to find a "how far back to sync" option specifically for the Calendar.
In my last post, I mentioned that I got rid of the Exchange sync, and reconfigured it. This removed everything, and re-set it all up.... The calendar still only goes back 2 weeks...
The only items that are in my Calendar before the 2 weeks are appointments which are configured as re-curring. Any other type of appointments don't show in the past further than 2 weeks into the past.
I don't beleive this is anything I'm doing wrong. I'm just wondering if this 2 weeks into the past thing is hardcoded into the phone, or what...

Just wondering if anyone has found a solution for this 2 weeks thing?
I find it very annoying that only recurring appointments/reminders are kept longer than 2 weeks!
I want my Calendar to store all my appointments and to keep them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It has always been so with me too, and many others as I've read on other forums. I hope this will change in the future.

I know this is delayed, but it's great to know this is happening to someone else and not just me!

Well, I know it may be a bit cluncky, but as my lovely place of employment does not support Active Sync for Windows Phones, I have been using "Google Calendar Sync" on my laptop to keep my Outlook Calendar in sync with my Google calendar (and thus my phone) and have not "lost" any old appointments in my Google calendar.

for exchange, go to settings email accounts outlook and change how many days it syncs email
For hotmail and facebook there isn't a setting but i can go forward and backward months on the calendars and see appointments.
What calendar / account are you having the issue with? I don't have a google calendar to test.

[Q] Sync'ing Google Calendar FROM Phone TO Web

Ok, I've searched for this and the few solutions that I have found do not make any difference for me, so either, something fundamental has changed at Google, or I have set something else wrong.
The Problem;
I have one Google Calendar and one Windows Live Calendar set up on my Windows Phone. (HTC 7 Pro).
Until 2 weeks ago (approximately) every thing sync'd correctly both ways.
Now, events entered as Google Calendar Items on the Phone do not sync with the Online Calendar. Events entered on the Online Calendar sync as expected.
I have tried changing the "Automatically add invitations to my calendar:" setting to "yes" or "yes, but dont send event reminders....." as suggested in other threads, but this does not have any effect. i am aware that this fix will not work on events created before the setting change. It does not work with events created before or after the Setting was changed.
The Windows Live Calendar syncs properly both ways. There is no issue with this, but could it's presence be affecting how the Google Calendar behaves?
Any further advise would be appreciated.
Have you considered that it can have something to do with summer/vinter time. check that you phone and gmail account have the same time zone and both are updated to summer time.

I've had the same issue on my Samsung Focus since I pretty much bought the thing. I gave up and finally just moved to the live calendar. I guess I could try again now that I have Nodo to see if that fixed it.
There's nothing for NoDo to "fix" on your phone. I've been using Google Calendar on my Focus since day 1, and it has always worked (both pre- and post-Nodo) once I got it properly configured (using the "Automatically add invitations to my calendar" setting). I just tested it to make sure.
I wonder if your Google account on your phone has become corrupted somehow. Have you tried deleting the account from the phone and recreating it?
But, I am puzzled that you say that the events were syncing correctly before. If you didn't have the "Automatically add invitations to my calendar" setting enabled, I don't see how that could have worked. WP7-created events are only sent as invitations to Google, and without that setting, they can't show up in your calendar.
Thanks for responses.
I'm fairly certain that this is not a DST issue. I have checked clocks and all seems correct.
Apologies for confusion, robodad.
I switched the "automatically add invitations..." setting to NO about the time it stopped working, but didn't notice until the last couple of days that it had, stopped working.
On noticing, I researched and discovered how this setting should be set to YES due to the way that Google handles new events from WP7.
Now that this is switched back to YES it is still not sync'ing.
A response to the same question on Google's forums has suggested that the ICS is broken. I do not know what this means but it appears that this is at Google's end.
Hello,
I've exactly the same problem with my Trophy 7.
i had the setting on " yes, but don't send.." , the appointments came into google calendar with a question mark.
All of a sodden it stopped working, so i changed the setting to "yes", but it doesn't make a difference.
The strange thing is that it does work both ways on my iphone, so there is no problem (i think) from googles side as you suggested.
This is very frustrating because i use google calendar as my main calendar, i hope someone has an other solution.
Thanks for any help.
Monique
Update
Well, from the Google Forums where this has been posted (OPs:-Am I allowed to link to that from here?), Google have now taken some sort of ownership of this and are apparently looking into it.
They have contacted (seemingly) everyone that has posted on their Forum for details as to the problem.
Maybe something sorted out soon.
Latest from Google
This posted on the Google Help Forum as a work around.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for keeping us updated here with what's worked for you and what hasn't. Andrew has been working with me off-thread and has been super helpful, and we think we might have a workaround for now. Do you guys mind trying this out and letting me know if it works for you?
1) Delete the "Google" account on your device
2) Add an "Outlook" account
3) Be sure the email address is correct the first time it asks you
4) Device will say "Check your information and try again" and give a more
detailed form
5) Be sure that both email address and username are correct in this form
(domain can be blank or a dummy value like "goog")
6) Device will give "We couldn't find your settings", choose "Advanced"
7) This time device will give a field for server, enter "m.google.com"
8) Now it should sync.
9) Configure the account as desired and you should be able to add a
calendar event successfully
10) Keep using this account or, optionally, delete this account and add a
"Google" account (either way is the same)
Cheers,
Alice
This appears to have had limited success. Certainly hasn't worked for me. But does appear to have worked for at least one other contributer there. If intermittently

Can you please tell me how did you sync your phone calander with windows live account? I can not do it.
Latest from Google Forums
This from Andrew who seems to be doing a lot of work on this.
"I've spent quite an enjoyable an hour on the phone with a mobile-software chap from Google, who has access to sync logs. What's happening in my case is that although I set up the sync with my gmail address, the phone is sending events with my live.com address as "Organizer", and those events are being rejected. This happened again when I connected with a test Google calendar account as well -- my phone used my live.com address.
Steve then tried to sync his phone with a test Google calendar account, and events created on the phone were synced correctly. He then tried his phone with *my* Google calendar -- that is, set up my gmail account on his phone -- and the event was created with his live.com address (and consequently was rejected).
So: the issue can be reproduced using my Google calendar account and any phone, or my phone and any calendar. But no phone should be leaking live.com addresses to Google.
Investigation continues. I'm now going to look for a way of reporting the problem to Microsoft..."
I fear that this may be bringing the issue back full circle to NoDo. We shall see.

erfansaberi,
So far as I am aware, i never had to do anything other than set up the account, to sync my Live Calendar across from Phone to Desktop to Cloud.
I use Outlook Connector with Outlook 2007. This syncs the Desktop.
To be honest i don't use web apps at all (other than Google where i have no choice at present) as I am invariably on a Mobile Data connection and at least Outlook only transfers the relevant data, and not all the gubbings required to render a web page, in a browser.
I also have this google thing problem... It is quite annoying.
Did anyone here try to delete the account and create an outlook account trick? Does it work? I guess it also removes the contact list, doesn't it?
Work around?
Not sure if someone has come up with a good work around yet, but this is annoying as heck! I actually lost some calendar events after creating events on the phone and syncing to google calendar. Darn you google!
Anyways, after playing around a bit, I think I've got something that works (for me anyways). I created a contact with my own google email address that I use with Google cal in it (it happens to not be an @gmail.com address). So this is pretty much my own contact card with my google cal email address. Now every single calendar event that I create, I have to go to "more details" and "add someone". I add myself under "required" and making sure to select the google cal email. Strangely, after syncing with google cal (manually or just wait a bit) it will show up in google cal.
The setback is that you'll get an email notification in gmail and all the events will have a little "?" next to it in google cal since you're supposed to confirm you're going or not to that event. But at least now we can backup our events to the cloud instead of losing every god dang thing if our phone goes to the crapper.
SOLVED (well sort of)

I have been having this issue for the last month and have found something that works for me:
On your Windows Phone do the following:
1. Open Settings
2. click email & accounts
3. click your google account
4. Under Content to synchronise make sure that Email is ticked (this was not ticked orginally for me).
5. Add a new event to you calandar
6. go back into Settings -> email & accounts and click and hold you Google account until the menu appears and select synchronise
7. you should now see your newley created calandar event in your google calandar web
]
This seems to work for me, I do not have to re-sync from the settings>email area either as it happens automatically.

[Q] Double calender items

I have a nice brandnew Desire S, no custom rom (yet) and all original.
I'm experiencing a calender problem I can't find any info about on google.
I have both a google account with appointments, and an exchange account with appointments. When I make a new appointment in outlook, it get's replicated okay to my phone. A moment later the appointment also gets replicated to my google account, and therefore appears 2 times in my calender app (HTC).
Also when I make a new appointment in Google (on the phone or on PC does not matter) it first shows on the phone once, and later it seems to get replicated to my exchange account and it appears also in outlook and twice on my phone.
I dont want replication between the calenders, I just want to be able to look at both calenders.
Anyone an idea about what I am overlooking?
Thanks!

m.google.com/sync error with birthday calendar

Dear all...
I really need an hand..
I have a samsung omnia w and I would like to add to my calendar the other calendar I had on my google account.
So I go to m.google.com, I put the tick on the 3 calendars I have "Birthdays", "Weather" and another one...Well now I can see them in the Settings on my wp, but if I go in settings, email and account, I see that google account can't sync!!!..
I have an error...like 8600050C...
I have this error only If I put a tick on "Birthday and Events Contact"...with the other 2 calendars there is no problem..
Why!??!??!?
Please help me!!
Thanks
same problem here, really annoying!!!
Add another one with this problem.
same problem here on lumia 710.
birthdays were syncing until yesterday just fine and stopped approx 18 hrs ago. no google content (contacts, emails, calendars...etc) would sync today until i disabled the birthday calendar. hopefully there will be a timely resolution...because i don't find the workaround to disable the birthdays a long term solution.
It looks like whatever the issue was, it is now fixed. Once again the birthday calendar syncs without problems.

Outlook Exchange Calender events missing in S Planner

I have the following problem: I am using S Planner to sync with the MS exchange calendar and some events are just not appearing in S Planner. These events do appear on my HTC phone to which I also synch the exchange calendar.
Does anybody have the same problem or an idea where this might be coming from?

Of course I have it selected to be displayed and synched. Most of the events I can see, but occasionally there are events that just don't show in S Planner, but they show on my HTC phone and computer. I tried creating events on all three devices and they synched to all others, so it must be an error that occasionally happens and then specific events won't be synched to S Planner. I even cloned an event on the PC that was previously not displayed in S Planner and the clone then showed up.
I'm still puzzled, more ideas?

Well, it could be because we have exchange 2007, I think. But I don't understand why only some events don't sync and there is no pattern to them. Also, everything syncs fine to the phone and even to the TPT.

Exactly the same here. Any idea? Someone mentioned a similar thread, but I cannot find it.
So the painful way for me to get my Note II and S Planner sync with Exchange working was to totally remove the exchange account (I use MobileIron) and delete the account from settings.
Then add/configure the account from scratch in MobileIron brought back all Exchange calendar entries and sync was fixed, I think its something locally on the phone that gets stuck and requires the account to be removed/re-added

Does Activesync Exchange (Corporate) sync work for anyone else?

I have a Microsoft Exchange account that I use for calendar and contact (I don't use it for email). When I set this up as a corporate account syncing just doesn't work. It synced initially although some of the calendar events were missing. I ended up erasing contact and calendar storage data to start fresh and neither the calendar nor contacts will sync from the exchange account, even when I try to manually sync them or reboot the phone.
I'm using a new phone that came as a replacement for my original phone that died. On the first phone I had this issue on 4.4. On 4.4.2 it completely failed to autosync but would at least sync manually and on reboots.
But on my new phone on 4.4.2 it won't sync at all.
I'm wondering if it has issues with some versions of Exchange or if this is generally broken for everyone.
It's hard to believe Google hasn't bothered to fix Exchange support going on 4 months now...
I have access to my exchange data through Touchdown but it has it's own sync bugs which they are clearly not interested in fixing as I reported them repeatedly over the last couple of years and it doesn't integrate well with the rest of the phone.
Works fine for me. Is sync set to push?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
No problems here.
Sent from my Nexus 5
Strange. Yes, I tried it on push initially then also every 5 minutes.
I did find when I created a new contact on the Nexus 5 then updated it in Outlook the update did sync back to the Nexus 5. I'm wondering if the account manager keeps track of what's been synced and only updates changes rather than checking for differences. In that case maybe by deleted my contacts and calendar data they become out of sync with the account manager and there's no way to restore the data except by deleting and recreating the account... I'll have to test that.
During the initial sync, though, I had 3 all day recurring appointments for tomorrow and only 2 of them showed up in the Nexus 5 Calendar. So something went wrong and the syncing is definitely not very robust to any issues that can occur.
I use my exchange calendar all the time with no issues... Updates both ways immediately.
Deleted and recreated the account. There's one recurring (yearly) appointment today which does not appear on the phone calendar no matter what I do (it does appear in Touchdown's calendar). Impossible to tell if that's a unique appointment not being synced or more likely there are others.
Added some test appointments and contacts in Outlook. They sync instantly to Touchdown. They do sync to the native apps but only if I manually force a sync through account settings. Otherwise they won't sync at all.
Changes I make on the phone's apps do sync immediately to the exchange server.
I'm surprised noone else is having these issues. Must not work well with some aspect of the server I'm using. But Touchdown doesn't seem to have this issue so I blame Google...
Mine works fine as well. I have two accounts set up. One on Exchange 2010 and one on Exchange 2013. Both account calendars, contacts, emails, tasks, and notes sync just fine. Could be the server that you're connecting to. Do you know the version? Are there any administrative restrictions or policies running? You can also check the Mobile Devices section in OWA and make sure you don't have too many in there. If you reach your limit of devices it won't let you set it up at all.

I checked the OWA options and removed some old entries but I don't think that's the issue or I wouldn't be able to setup the account at all. I'm currently well under the limit.
Strangely, it seems to be working better now. There's still that one appointment that will never sync but after I enabled email syncing (which I don't actually need) it now does seem to sync updates in both directions automatically within a few minutes of any change. I've also noticed when I'm in the account settings to do a manual sync after quickly passing through contacts and calendars the syncing icon lingers on email even though it wasn't checked.
I'm wondering if there's a bug where updates are tried exclusively to email syncing. If anyone has some time, perhaps you could try deselecting email syncing but leave contacts and calendar and see if when you make a change it will automatically sync.
I've also sent an email to our server's admin to inquire if there's any known issue with kit kat and our server.
Our server version is: 14.2.318.2
Will the native client sync all past appointments or is there a hardcoded limit? I'm wondering if the failure to sync that one appointment, despite it being an annual recurring appointment, might be because it was created too far in the past.
As far as I'm aware, you need email syncing regularly for calendar to sync

Is that a requirement from Activesync or Google's implementation? I realize my use case is probably unusual but if you need email syncing for any syncing to work then the UI shouldn't allow you to uncheck it.
Under Touchdown I'm not syncing any email folders, but I don't know if it's still technically doing an email sync to 0 folders...
Anyway, if that's the source of the problem I don't have a problem enabling email sync.
I appreciate everyone's help!
I've not had chance to test it on kk, but certainly on aosp jb on my s3, I had to have email syncing. I preferred to set email to manual sync just for when I was afk, but even then no calendar updates. It had to syncs regularly to get updates
Nowadays its force of habit to.let it sync without notifications. Maybe i'll test next week

If it's corp email then have you made sure your exchange admin hasn't restricted connectivity to certain device types? Or that they have EAS policies around PIN/encryption that you haven't applied or aren't supported by your device?
Because EAS works fine on the N5. And EAS is MS's documented standard which is often very badly implemented by certain vendors (I'm looking at you, Apple)

I've problems with only some of my contacts. They initially syncing all fine from the server, but changes on some contacts on the phone won't be pushed back to the server.
I use an Office365 account with exchange 2013. And it seems to work with contacts that have no birthday entry, but not with the ones that have a birthday. Maybe this is not the cause. But the only difference.
I use CM11 nightlies on my N5, but had the same issues on N4 Stock / CM10 and N5 Stock.
Another problem is that I cannot enter debug mode any more with *#*#36245#*#*. Maybe some has an idea how to enable this.
Thanks for any help.

As I mentioned above, after enabling email syncing I don't seem to have problems with syncing changes but I did notice several yearly recurring appointments will not show up in the Nexus 5 calendar app.
It's interesting that you mentioned an issue with contacts that have a birthday field as the appointments that are not showing up (at least the one's I've noticed so far) happen to be birthday reminders of contacts that have a birthday field. They have been edited but may have originally been created automatically from the contact birthday entry. In my case, the contacts with the birthday are showing up but not the related calendar entry. I haven't tried editing one of these contacts to see if there are any syncing issues. Perhaps I'll test that.
I wonder if there's a bug related to birthday appointment links?
I've noticed 2 other issues:
1. Despite having selected to sync all days only the last week of appointments sync to the Nexus 5. It's not quite clear if this setting is for email only or everything including calendar. I often find it useful to look up past appointments for reference of when I had a meeting or event but the calendar won't sync into the past and also won't search into the past using the server when online so there is no way to look up past appointments on the phone.
2. There appears to be a daylight savings time bug with recurring all day appointments. I've found that such appointments show up as 2 day events in the calendar on days past the daylight savings time change. When looking at one of these appointments they are scheduled from 11pm on the day they should appear to 11pm the following day. The shift of 1 hour back makes a certain amount of sense in terms of when the appointment should start relative to today's time (like a timezone shift) except while the hour gets shifted back 1 hour from midnight the day does not (if it were relative time it should start at 11pm the prior to the scheduled event not the day of). In any case, the display should be properly adjusted for daylight time so this doesn't happen. Also, recurring events that are not all day show up at the correct date and time and non-recurring events whether or not they are all day also show up correctly.
