Get the Swype Keyboard For Your Android Phone Now - Android Apps and Games

From Gizmodo
Swype has been my favorite way to type on an Android phone, but it's been kinda limited in what phones can run the keyboard software. Until now! All you have to do is register at Swype and download.
From Swype's website.,,
Beginning on December 20th, we'll be opening the beta for a limited time.
Head over to http://beta.swype.com to register and join the fun!
From what people are saying you get the download immediately...

Swype came with the Samsung Captivate (not sure about other Galaxy S phones, but thinking yes)
It's installed as a system app. - What would happen if I wanted to try and update it?

I've read that your suppose to back up your current Swype files and then uninstall it and then install the beta but I couldn't tell you what files to back up

is it for all droids?

this is legit! finally a legit version!

Hmmh, which one is better, Swype or SlideIT? There's a bunch of Youtube videos of both of these, and all the SlideIT-users claim it to be more useful than Swype... can't deside

I got my version instantly it works great. Seriously is better than typing just have to get used to it, it is a little tricky at first, do it, it's worth it and even with out you can still type normal. The beta is working perfect check the screenshots I took

swype beta is free...

I personally keep going back to Shapewriter but I think eventually I'll move to Swype because Swype continues to develope it. Shapewriter was bought by Nuance and then nothing since the buyout.. Sad.. because I thought Shapewriter was more accurate. SlideIt is good too. I think a person has to try all 3 and then decide. A swyping keyboard is definitely the way to go for me..

How do you get the micro/mini install option? I have reinstalled using the installer but the option is not presented. Do I need to uninstall swype and the installer? A 2.5MB install would be so much better than the 10MB install.
Thanks

Ahhh perfect, I was poking around to see what I would need to do to bring the multitouch browser to H (I already have the Voice Search and Dialer) and I find this. Thank's dude.

Not 100% sure, but this loads faster on mine. I "overclock" to slow to save battery haha but I didn't notice a difference running hr3. I've been going back and forth trying to get what I need. The blue lock screen overlay is actually the MAIN reason I am doing this. Stupid, huh?
Key factor may be that I DID update the radio.
I did leave out superuser, spare parts, and anything else that can be installed normally for those who don't want them. I change my mind about apps hourly so I try to keep default installs as clean as possible to avoid troublesome adb commands.
This sounds very intersting. Does it include the Exchange integration from the 5.0H build?
This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for... soon as you get locked down which apps ur keeping, I'm on it.
Sounds great twisted. I'm in love with 5.0.2H because of the mail app and pdfviewer. Yesterday I stepped up to ADP1.5 and although it was fast, it's missing these key components that I use daily. I look forward to you app log.
This is really interesting. I can't wait to hear(read) thee results. Lol

It currently has the 5.0.2 exchange. I saw no point in taking it out. I don't use it but I know it's far easier to remove system components like that than it is to implement them once an update is installed.
So far I see no real difference in Gmail. Mail seems to crash for me in 1.5 with something about a Plus account - looks like 5.0.2 mail stays. Maps and Market will be updated because I see no reason not to.
Any thoughts on Gmail? Anyone see any updates worth having?
Can you put the H build camera in the build instead of the 1.5.3 camera? The HTC camera was far superior than the google implementation. That's all I can think of so far

H camera crashed when using the camera button. The one I'm using is the one from the "add features to 5.0.xH" thread. Seems to be the most stable and all you really lose is zoom. Forgot to take out additional HTCAlbum, though. Planning to fix this and some other updates when I get back to my hideout. If I can remap the H camera button I will get that in there, but that takes a little longer than just swapping apks.

Please allow me time to obtain all the information I need (and the conmplimentary copy of Paragon) before I begin posting parallel versions for those of you that require a2sd. Until then I am taking the advice of a pm and adding in the black vk. It is "slick"
Please feel free to follow me on twitter at the same name. Much as I have followed the trend of making one for such an endeavor.
Please excuse the fact that I edit my posts almost immediately. I view them from my G1 and while the logic may be flawed, I find them cleaner when words do not hang loosely into additional lines.

everything seems to work. not seeing the multi-touch...suppose to be there right. not a big deal, just testing out the version.
How is this going?
Still developing the build?
Looks great, and appears to fit me perfectly!
However, what is the difference between the two builds that you link to in your first post?
Is the 5.0.2hr5-twisted.zip the normal version, while the 5.0.2hr5a-twisted.zip is the Apps2SD version?

Sorry apps2sd is still coming. Having technical difficulties with getting both my G1 and computer to recognize the same partitions. The new version has the Andreoid keyboard included along with updates to youtube, maps, and market. The slider problem still exists for a day or two. Wanted to get the new market in place because I isolated the market download issue to have been cooperation between market and launcher. Now that the new market accepts downloads I can fix launcher. Expect updates tomorrow. I have a 4-hour block of boredom. Hehe.

Still isolating libs and such. JesusFreke redid the kernel so the program alone was not enough. Didn't think that far ahead when I was throwing parts together. I'm learning as I tear apart the 7 builds on my desktop. I just have to teach myself as I go.
Open source never meant well-documented.
Plans are in the works to go backwards from the HTC build, but like most others I need something to default back to when I'm not testing. Building this version was first priority with that being my next step. That is when the speed increases will occur with some new features. Can't say I'm not a dreamer, right?

How to install Swype and get it working.

Discalimer: While this has worked for me and many others, it may not work for you so be careful and remember to always back up your data.
Well after much searching for instructions on how to install Swype and get it working without the various errors and crashing i have decided to write up this little tutorial... 'Why do we need a tutorial?' you ask. well since my first attempt at installing Swype i have gone thorugh 2 hard resets and a new Rom.
I have also found a 'fixed' cab, after attempting to use a cab rip from the tmous version and screwing over my phone.
Some of these swype cabs are a bit buggy and can cause temporary errors in your registry that screw-up anything that is encrypted, this includes saved passwords for applications and more importantly the windows unlock password.
This may not happen in your installation but it's better to be safe than sorry and can be enabled after we have finished installing.
So before we even begin installation navigate your way to Settings > Security > Phone lock and then untick the box that says 'Prompt if phone unused for...'
Download the fixed-Swype cab if you have not done so already, i have to say thanks to whoever it was that made this, and is available here on xda-forums.
Cab:
Fixed-Swype-HTCBlackBird-3.9.10.10.5032.CAB
(No i will not put the fileup for public download, just search for it).
connect your HD2 to your computer and copy the cab over to the device into which ever folder you like.
now pick-up your phone and using your prefered file explorer navigate to the directory you just placed the cab in and open it.
During install you MUST make sure that you select to install the software to your 'Device' and NOT to the storage card.
Once the installation is complete your phone will prompt for a restart, select cancel and return to your file explorer.
Now navigate to the internal memory and then to the Windows directory in here will be a new folder named Swype, select it and then from the menu select copy.
Now go up out of the Windows directory but remaining in the internal storage navigate to Program Files.
Inside the Program Files directory paste the Swype folder.
Now perform a soft reset and swype should now be succesfully installed, to test swype open a blank message or word document, when the standard keyboard opens, click the small arrow next to the keyboard icon on the menu bar and select Swype.
Enjoy.
Great write up. Must admit i had many problems installing the v3.9 and had to hard reset to fix it. Your last steps about cancelling the restart and copying the folder is what is different.
Must admit though, i just installed the v2.0 from the Omnia and found it typed faster (this is compared to when i did have v3.9 working). Also with 3.9 the number selection when holding down a certain key hardly ever worked, works all the time with 2.0 so i just stuck with that. With a skin it looks not bad either even though 3.9 does have the better appearance etc.
may it also work for my touch pro 2 ?
Thanks in advance
There is actually a new version of Swype floating around... installing it seems to be pretty easy. And the bugs of the version which is mentioned above are solved, too. Just google for "IME_Swype_3_19_20_20_6343_0.cab" and you will find it.

I wouldn't like to say as i only have tried this on the HD2, but as long as you back-up and are prepared to re-enter all your passwords you could always try.

thanks for the info i may have to check it out if i get a chance.
There are actually 4 versions of swype floating around for use on the HD2.
The Omnia II version: works well but keys are small and just looks too plain.
The fixxed 3.9.10.10.5032 blackbird edition: Ripped from TMOUS. Much more pleasing to the eye. Long presses do not always work. (ex: holding for numbers). It changes your phone ID to T-Mobile_Leo. This it what locks you out of your phone if you have it passworded and causes you to hard reset. Disable password before installing. It also destroys settings for email and router pass keys. It also deletes passwords for installed applications like Resco and SPB. Also had to run through internet connection setup again. And who knows what else.
Another version of 3.9.10.10.5032 by LordYuz: This has been fixxed to not change your phone ID. Won't destroy your passwords or lock you out of your phone. Long presses still do not work well.
IME_Swype_3_19_20_20_6343_0: Also ripped from new TMOUS HD2. Again this version changes your phone ID and will cause damage as stated above. Not sure if long presses are fixxed with this version or not. Hoping LordYuz gets his hands on this version and fixxes it too.

I was of the same opinion but maybe its in my head but im sure it works better. It just seems to respond quicker, flow a bit better.
I also installed the Lessro skin, looks much better, better than the stock 3.9 in my opinion, dont even notice the keys appearing smaller and at the end of the day its a straight install, no special instructions required at all and the long key presses actually work so its practicality vs appearance..........i know what i prefer..............thats until of course they actually release a proper fully working 3.9 with all features working properly.

whilst v2.0 (omnia version) is floating around everywhere (google easily finds it), this is the newer released v3.9 by LordYuz which fixes the previous 3.9. works great. It is larger to install but go into the swype folder in the Windows directory, del the tutorial, its almost 10mb alone to save space
I used almost all of them including the fixed version ended up hard reseting twice, until I came across swype V.2 which I am enjoying it now a lot.
I have version 6343 with the Eleganicia ROM on WM 6.5.5 base. It works perfectly with long press, but the allignment is off due to the bigger taskbar. Any ideas on how to adjust it?

You probably used this version 3.9.10.10.5032.
Are you sure you tried the newest being Swype 3.19.20.20.6343.
Im using this no problem in terms of changing the phone ID, passwords etc and others have commented the same.
anyone has an ideea how to have romanian language?
So far, Swype is only 5 languages... to implement any other is not an easy job. Hopefully Swype will officially make an offer soon, with more languages. I think many people would buy it if the price is reasonable.

The omnia version does not lag when using htc messaging's conversation mode (with +50 message in a conversation). I installed the new stock ROM and this new swype version fixes the long press key problem, but it still lags pretty bad. My first question is, how do you check the swype version on the HD2? Secondly, does the newest swype version fix the lag problem?

Agreed, when i used to use the 2.0 (omnia version), it was simple and fast, just didnt look as good without a skin and the keys were a bit smaller.
Although in saying that, i have just flashed with a new aftermarket ROM which has the omnia swype already cooked in, v2.0 and it runs sweet.
Few days prior when i ran the latest swype i didnt have any lag on a stock 1.48 rom not sure why you got a lag problem. I also have hundreds of sms's but it worked good for me, i liked the new version as it just seemed built for our phones, larger keys, sound and vibration feedback, long key presses and even deleting words holding the backspace key down erased words etc. Overall very nice.
To check swype version, go to settings, personal, input and when you select swype, there is an about button top left. tells you there.
I have 4 questions...basically how to reset swype and how to guess which version is running.
QUESTIONS:
1.
how can I know which swype version i am running? from which menu? or settings or where?
2. How to install a dictionary, for example ITALIAN Dictionary? (I have the Italian cab, but installation does not work)
I have two HD. The old one HTC-HD2, NOT T-mobile (running an old 6.5.3 cooked rom) has a modified swype in which sometimes (50% of times) long pressing does NOT result in a number to be typed. But it has ITALIAN language.
My new HD2 t-mobile has probably a omnia version (smaller keys) and long press ALWAYS work. Unfortunately it only has only ENG and SPANISH dictionaries, NOT ITALIAN. I have tried to install Italian cab (following a thread here) but it is NOT recognized as a legitimate dictionary.
3.
How to reset swype? In fact after 3 or more months, the OLD HD2 has this problem: I have accidentally hit od and i3 and press space. these 2 mistyped words are now part of the ENGLISH dictionary, right? then what happens, every time i type OF I get OD (as default choice) and same for IF: I get i3...so I wish to reset the internal dictionary. How to do it?
4.
The NON-omnia swype, in the 3rd screen (click 123-SYM key 3 times), has an option "SELECT ALL", The Ommia-version of swype does NOT have this option. Is there a way to add in omnia-version of swype?
5.
The english dict has this word TYPO. Each time I swype TO the system ALWAYS enter TYPO...how to correct this behaviour? I wish to eliminate TYPO from dictionary. there are instructions on how to do. but these instructions do not work...
Thanks and waiting
Saulo
I have tried to turn back to defaults, under options, but no improvements...if someone knows how to reset to original settings, I would really appreciate...
Thanks
Saulo

[Q] Swype Beta No Longer Working on my N1

I am a part of the Swype BETA. So I'm not asking for APK's or anything like that. I'm just hoping for some help.
Here's what happen. Been using Swype for Months as I'm in the beta. I have the Nexus One. I was using the latest version and I had a friend email me a zip I could flash in Recovery that was the Vibrant version of Swype with voice input button and everything. looked different than stock swype also. I've used it for a while and LOVE it. But now I can no longer get EITHER his, nor the original, Official beta to work either. I installed SwiftKey and used for a few days and ever since then. I can no longer get Swype to work. Really upsetting.
When I resend the Beta Email, download and install I get the Error that install is for another device. I've tried all the fixes on the FAQ page with no luck. If anyone has any idea's or suggestions I'd very very much appreciate it. Or if anyone has a Swype with Voice Key.. That is what I want the most. It's been in Beta for like a Year. is it Finished Already? Geez
The latest fix involves clearing data and cache before uninstalling. Then rebooting and installing something called Swapper 2. I've done that and still wont work. The Swype forums said that was the final fix and would do it. but nope.
idea's?

A couple questions

I hope these don't come off too n00b-ish, I'm not new to Android nor to rooting phones. I had an Evo and was on Sprint when I realized that...hey, Sprint's service sucks, so I came back to Ma Bell since they finally got an Android device worth buying (no offense to others, but the Aria is way too small)
Anyway, my first question is do any of these ROMs up right now have sideloading capabilities yet?
Second, coming off of the Evo I had Sense 1.0 and it automatically linked my contact card to my Facebook through Facebook for Sense, but Sense 2.0 doesn't do that, is there a way to link my picture/contact card to Facebook?
Third, speaking of which, anyone else have problems with the Facebook App? It doesn't show my picture on my profile and half of the time doesn't load a lot of user pictures.
And last, HTC released Swype for the Evo, is there any plans of the I4G/DHD getting the keyboard too? I mainly use Better Keyboard but liked having Swype at times.
No one can answer these?
To my knowledge, every Rom here has sideloading enabled.
I only ran Sense for a few hours so I can't answer that. Sorry lol.
Facebook works fine for me.
Once you have sideloading enabled, search Google for the swype beta and install it. Bam.

You people and your damn AOSP. lol. Thanks for response, not sure what is wrong with my Facebook, it did come pre-installed, once I get rooted I may just need to reinstall it from the marketplace and it should work.
The facebook app that came preinstalled on my I4G wouldn't show my or some other pics either so I gotta say that it has to do with something that the stock rom had. I'm on CM7 right now but I remember that I was able to automatically see my pic anywhere that the stock sense apps had an entry for the owner's pic, like the messages app, contacts, etc.

Anyway to have the vibrant swype on the nexus s?

do I just need to push the apk?
Go to http://swype.com . Sign up for the beta, and they'll send you a link to the installer.
The beta works.
But if you need a language that's available on the SGS but not in the beta, like Canadian French from a Bell Canada ROM (which uses a QWERTY layout instead of an AZERTY one like in France)...
IIRC, I've managed to get the Vibrant version working by installing the beta first, backing up the license file, removing the beta, and pushing the SGS build, which is a bit older.
There is an expiry date in the beta license file. You'll probably need to go back and forth between the SGS build and the new betas as they come out to renew your license file.
I've attempted to modify the more recent beta build to include FRCA, but that did not work. Another attempt at a hex edit of the FRFR files changing the azerty reference to qwerty resulted in a force-close. The people at Swype have been unresponsive to requests for new keyboard layouts from international users on their own forums.
The program does pop up hints despite them being toggled off. Annoying.
Update: I ended up switching to Dasur's SlideIT. Slightly better interface but slightly worse recognition IMO. Also, languages are easy to add, just download the pack from market. There's an FRCA keyboard for me.
Ya that sounds like alot I just wanted.to change the way it looked like the one on the vibrant I still feel that screen is alot better then the nexus s screen I wish they use the same hardware on the nexus s
