Help! SMS Issue - Captivate General

Hello Everyone
After google and exhausting all options I decided to post this.
When i'm receiving texts the reply's are popping up on top of my msgs
IE:
Reply would be "here"
and my original msg would be "here"
Originally it would be like this

I look at the settings but doesn't indicate anything to correct this.
Please help..

What ROM are you running?
This seems to be a pretty common issue - I think I remember reading about how the timestamps are fubard from how they are received from AT&T.
You can see if the issue is repeated using a 3rd party app like ChompSMS or Handcent (my personal preference)
Haven't had the issue on my phone for quite some time now - but I've been running so many different custom ROM's and I switched to Handcent too.

Glad to hear, that I'm not the only one having this issue.
My Samsung Captivate was from Rogers. I loaded AT&T Rom from an accident when i was trying to load a Froyo but loaded AT&T(2.1.1) instead. Currently I'm using Cognition v2.8b as my ROM now.
Which didn't really cure the problem. I download Chompsms and hope for the best..

i think there is a small program to fix that, im dont remember the name right now ... i remember the app icon having a band aid

Multiple Icons for same application on CDMA Hero

Hey, not exactly sure about posting in the right sub forum but i have a little issue
i am currently using a CDMA Hero for Sprint and everything has been going well after fixing the battery issue with a different messaging app, but now a new little annoying issue has arised.
lately when i have opened my menu bar for all my apps i have been getting multiple icons for the same apps
Examples such as Bonsai Blast and Teeter have 2 icons right next to each other that are the same. They both work but its kinda annoying
also some of the applications names are incorrect. instead of ChompSMS its titles is now com.p1.chompsms along with Google Voice being voicemail.xxx... etc
i have tried searching the forums quite a bit and haven't quite found an answer for this issue and am not sure if it applies to the GSM version (thinking it might be a bug for Sense UI)
anyone have the same issue?
i have tried reinstalling the applications and rebooting and it still keeps happening. (not really wanting to hard reset...)
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!
you are not alone, yeah for i have two print voicemail apps one with a long com..... something same with google sky and google voice app its odd but hey hopefully we will get eclair soon
I don't think it is the Sense UI. I think it is Android. They show the long namsspace name for the application...and some apps show other weird names as well. It happens when you reboot the phone, at least for me. I think it has to do with the way the apps register themselves when the phone boots. Or it may be sloppy programming in the manifest files. Not sure.
Having the same issues. Google Sky will actually show up as the first application, and titled something with about an End User Agreement. When launched it pops up the EUA and only option is a force close.
Not sure what is causing it either.

I had that happen also. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it fixed itself.

I bet if you reboot your phone the issue will return though...try it!!!
If that IS the case, see my post in this CDMA forum about app versions reverting. what has happened is that your app, in this case google sky, has reverted to an initial version, without telling you.

Just tested this and you are correct! Google Sky maps and Google Voice are the ones that do this for me.

I've confirmed that this app version reverting issue happens with at least 16 apps, not just the two Google apps you mention. I have a support question open with Google, so hopefully they can figure it out soon. It makes people think something else is wrong entirely.

I really think this now too,
so far i reinstalled Flixster Movies and Handcent SMS and when my phone reboots i get some different weird icon for both that are not the original ones.
also with the reboot, one of my original problems happens with the names of ChompSMS and Google Voice with their com.xxx.etc names
it has to be something changed on a reboot.
Google Dev group is on it. No fix yet though unfortunately:

Mercado, would you mind also informing them that a reboot also is causing apps to revert to their older versions? I think the problems are related. Thanks!

Oops! Sorry for making it sound like I am in on the android developer work. It is way over my head. Just thought I'd share a link I'd stumbled across. If it's kosher, perhaps you might want to share the url to your version reverting bug with that group. Not sure how that works.
In any case, it does seem like this is all related (missing icons, duplicate icons, renamed shortcuts, version issues, etc.). Unfortunately, it so far HTC has not acknowledged their role in the matter. Hopefully as the bug reports add up, they'll do something about it. Or, maybe they'll simply release Android 2.0 with Sense built in.

Ah, no worries. I have no shame, I'll put it in there whether it's kosher or not
After all, without visibility, a problem will never get solved.

Handcent

Is anyone else having issues with handcent? Im sometimes getting force closes, then the stock messaging app starts force closing then all my texts get deleted. So anyone having similar problems?
Nope, running version 2.9.31 no problem at all.

No problems here either, running the latest one from the android market.
i did have a weird problem at the very start when i got my Nexus One and rooted it, installed the first betas of CM Handcent would automatically move EVERYTHING to blacklist (even my wife... well...) and for days i thought all my friends had deserted me.
I uninstalled Handcent and reinstalled and it hasn't done that since. -- maybe fix permissions helped too
Try going into settings apps and see if you can clear data, that fixes lot of probs with apparently IMHO
Uninstall/reinstall
I have also sometimes FC with the latest version of Handcent. Mostly when i'm doing something in the settings.

Any application that can read SMS' out loud (possibly through a bluetooth device?)??

I wanted an application that could do this but all I could find was the one from blueAnt which only works with their specific bluetooth device...
You could use Tasker and use this profile - price looks high but it's VERY powerful once you know what you're doing.
Comes with a trial mode for around seven days.
+1 for Tasker. Brilliant app.
I have my 'in car' profile set to read texts - on text receipt it pauses the music player, then reads the senders contact name, and then the body of the text. Awesome.
i was planning on getting the blueant Q1 (just found it for $25). are you saying it won't work with handcent in reading a txt message?
edit: forget it...answered my own question by going to their site. "Hear text messages read aloud on your Q1 when connected to an Android device with our Android application."
What about the vlingo application. It has an email and sms reader that reads the message out loud when activated, but I haven't managed to get it to read the message through the Bluetooth headset

Wondering why SayMyName hasn't been mentioned yet... works fantastic even with caller names, mail, Twitter etc.
see this is why a thread like this is good, we all network our own thoughts and experiences together and find out about all these new apps that we never knew about before...thanks all, keep em comin if you have more comments or anything

SMS Speak
Just stumbled across this thread looking for something else. But thought I'd chime in. I use SMS Speak (the paid one, not the free one - two different companies/products), and it works great. I can get incoming texts and reply, all orally. I'm curious about the other products mentioned, though...

[Q] t-mobile mms signature

ive searched for others with similar problem but can only find mms signatures regarding gmail and email. my question deals more with messaging?
when i chat with a gmail friend via text messaging (my number), it gets converted to mms. in my previous rom (virtuous inquisition), the only other thing that was sent with my text was the message "this was sent to you from a t-mobile wireless phone". i made the switch to scverhagen's cm9.1 r8, and now when sending these mms, attached at the end is the tmobile logo/signature which consists of several gifs (tmobile stick together logo, etc) and the message "this was sent to you from a t-mobile wireless phone". ive also tried remICS and its the same. since its a chat in a sense and the attached logo/signature takes a while to load on other end, its not very convenient. is there anyway to rid of this signature and revert back to only the original message("this was sent to you from a t-mobile wireless phone")?
if it helps, i noticed when sending mms with inquisition attached was smil.xml. now when sending with the newer ics roms, attached is text_0.txt.
thanks for the help.
I don't text so this is just a shot in the dark but isn't there a place in settings for your signature? If there is, that is most likely just the default. If you were to enter a custom signature it very well may override ALL of it & just end it with your customized one. Like I said....just a shot in the dark.
i don't think theres setting for signatures for messaging. if there are system settings for it, then i havent heard of them or cant find them.
i tried talking to a tmobile rep about it and he said it might be their mms interface and that they cant help me with that. so i tried switching back to a nandroid of inquisition. when messaging from inquisition, the logo/signature isnt attached alongside.

In the standard Messaging app for the stock HTC ROM (or any ROM based on that), under the General settings is where you can enable/disable and change the signature text. I know that Handcent SMS has a setting for converting long SMS to MMS automatically, but the standard messaging app doesn't have this setting. I don't know if it does that anyway or not.

is this option available in scverhagen's r8 cm9.1 rom? if so, cant seem to find it.
i dont seem to have this issue in the virtuous inquisition rom. will it be possible/compatible to pull a file from the inquisition rom and put it in one of the newer roms here? something like a mms file or something is what im thinking about. or would the problem be rooted deeper into the framework or teh likes?

Inquisition is a Sense-based ROM, so the apps on it would NOT work on any CM-based ROM as those apps need the Sense framework to function.

ahh, i seee. i must have been thrown off because it looks like its not sense. checking back on the thread, i see that it's senseless with most aspects of sense removed.
anyone have any thoughts of what i can do to resolve this? the lady/recipient hates this signature in the newer roms.

Since I've never seen a signature attached to any of my SMS or MMS messages, I reloaded my CM9.1r8 ROM and tried. No signature attached. I used both the built-in messaging and Handcent SMS (my usual message app).
Are you sure you're using messaging and not some other app? Maybe Google Talk? or Google Voice?

no, im using the standard messaging app (green text bubble with happy face). sorry if my explanation of problem is unclear. on my end, i only see the message. on the receipient end, they get the attached. in this case, my message was "screenshot and email me."
before they would only get the message followed by "this message was sent from a tmobile wireless phone". now it comes as seen in the attached.
thanks for the help so far. much appreciated.

.gif images not moving

Hello, I am running CleanRom 5.6 on my verizon galaxy sIII and everything is working great. However I have one problem. The stock message app works great but it does not allow for group test message to show up on one message i.e. you get individual message instead of getting one single message. I solved this by installing go sms pro or handcent. NOw the problem that I am having is that when people send me a .gif image file I can see the picture but it is not moving. I have tried opening under the stock text app, go sms pro, and handcent but no one them work. At have had it working a few time but the majority of times it does not work i.e. the image does not move. I have searched online a lot but there is no one consensus on how to fix this problem. I hope someone know what I am talking about and can help me because I am not the only one who is having the problem. Thank you.
p.s. I do not know whether the problem is being caused by an iphone user sending the .gif file or whether that does not matter.

Im not 100% sure here but pretty sure the Android OS doesnt fully support .gif anymore at least? seems like alot of people cant only get the first frame of a gif to run on their phones now.
