I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 that has been unlocked from the T-Mobile UK network. I'm on the 2Degrees network in NZ however the Internet data connection doesn't work.
I have changed all the APN settings to match the 2Degrees network except that 2Degrees says the APN Type should say Default however there is no option for me to type this in - the only options I get are 'Internet + MMS', 'Internet', and 'MMS'.
I have tried entering in all the different options I can including not setting the APN Type (it defaults to internet anyway) and nothing works.
Any suggestions?
Do a hard reset to the phone and then try again?
I assume you mean turning it off then back on again - tried that, no luck. You don't mean completely resetting the device do you? How would I do that? Would I lose any data?

You would loose data, are you using a stock rom or custom rom. are you rooted
Don't know what custom or stock rom means so I assume I'm stock, yes I rooted it yesterday trying to do something else.
The firmware was upgraded just before I got it but I'm told it used to work just fine once the settings were correct.
Anyone know the way to set it up correctly?
Did you ever get this problem solved? I've heard a few people report the same issue but have not seen a difinitive solution.

Okay so here's what's happened.
My phone is the LG-925g from Rogers, and it's unlocked to work with Koodo. It WAS working just fine.
Sometime around my update to V20c (I don't know exactly when, so I can't say forsure it's the update) data stopped working properly on HSPA. It didn't entirely stop working, just sustained connections.
Let me explain.
On WIFI EVERYTHING works.
On 3G I can browse, check e-mails etc... but I can't download anything. Market I can browse, but not download. Youtube works in the browser, but not the youtube app. Shazam doesn't work. Facebook updates work in the browser, but not the Social+ widget. Weather updates fail.
I can browse and check e-mail and that's about it.
so data IS working, just not properly.
Here's what I've tried....
-Formatting NV partition
-Formatting Cache Partition
-Formatting internal SD Card
-Complete Phone Reset
-Took my phone to a Rogers store, hooked it up to the rogers cell network on a store-sim and it worked great
-Took my sim card to a koodo store, stuck it in a demo android phone, worked great.
- Factory Reset of phone
- (phone was not rooted at time of problem) rooted to install and use networking tools
-went into hidden menu 3845#*925#
-went into Other Hidden Menu: *#*#4636#*#*
-ran every test in hidden menu and looked for settings that may affect this
-Installed APN Remover to remove all APN's except Koodo
-Verified (with a koodo rep) every APN setting and even tried removing some or messing around with them
I'm about to downgrade and re-upgrade my phone to see if that works. Any chance that may fix it? any other possible solutions? I'll even take crazy solutions at this point because netstats pings, etc etc are not showing me anything, I just get a lot of Syn_sent connections without ACK's.
HELP! (And sorry for the wall of text)
have you tried setting up your APNs?
APN's
Yeah, I tried setting and resetting them a few times, even with a rep from the cell company.
I'm losing my mind!
Thanks anyways though!
Im using 21d. Seems to have somewhat similar problem. Getting unstable connections.
My problem:
phone kept switching from H to 3G to G and H again. Speedtest app revealed very low and inconsistent speeds..Reception bar also kept changing.
Phone was previously froyo. Im not sure if it's because of gingerbread baseband. I have some suspicions on that.
Im from Singapore

I agree. I think it's a GB thing. I'm on v21a, and I have the issue where upload arrow keep blinking, and I get the H -> 3G-> H.
EDIT:
I'm having this on v10d too
I have double and triple checked the APN settings. No luck. I feel like a complete retard, but why cant this phone connect to the network?
It doesn't even appear to try. Any suggestions?
I haven't a clue why, but I've been told multiple times that the infuse won't be able to connect to Tmobile data services in any manner.
I'm in the same boat, when did you notice this? I ask because mine just started doing this yesterday. Here's a brief synopsis of what I've done:
- I was running stock GB 2.3.6, from the Heimdall One-Click...had no issues for weeks (only had it a few weeks); once I realized that I can't get anything higher than EDGE speeds due to the hardware requirements, I went ahead and purchased the GN. So, my neighbor told me that she went to T-Mo (same phone) and the gentlemen 'input some codes' etc etc and she now had 3G (can't verify, I didn't grab her phone). I had an idea that he went into the phone testing mode (by doing the *#*#INFO#*#*) and maybe changed some of the network settings in there. So I figured I would give it a shot before I put it up for sale since my GN was coming today. So I went in and tried a few things, all to no avail....and then realized that I had NO data at all.
So at this point I did a factory reset (no luck), flashed the firmware/modem/etc from the Heimdall one-click, reset the APN settings (multiple times)....everything that I know to do with it....and STILL no data. But I can place calls, get texts, etc with no issue.
What's strange is after I flashed the stock GB rom, I went back into the testing mode (I guess that's what you call it???) and was checking a few things:
- if I run the ping test, it comes back null (no surprise) BUT it also lists 'GSM Service: In Service' and 'Network Type: EDGE'...it does show GPRS as disconnected.
I tried my SIM in an unlocked iPhone and it didn't have data connection. But I also put my roommates T-Mo SIM in the Infuse and it didn't have data either. I haven't had a chance to see if my SIM works (data wise) in the GN, because I haven't gotten it yet.
Any ideas on what to do?
**EDIT**
For some reason the data began to work about an hour after I posted this. Maybe the phone knew I was asking the experts and it had no where to hide?? Either way The_Joe I would try to maybe do a factory reset and if that doesn't work, to try to re-install the ROM/OS again.
Ok guys, having a pretty weird problem here. Thought I'd try and get some help here.
I was on my HTC Sensation today and I was looking at a few of the settings under the 'secret' *#*#4636#*#* menu on my phone. Out of curiosity, under the 'phone information' bit, I selected 'WDCMA only' (from WDCMA preferred) to test the coverage in my area. And after that, I haven't been able to get a sodding bit of reception in any way. I reset the option, restarted, pulled the battery, removed the SIM, reflashed my rom, flashed other roms, tried reflashing and flashing other firmwares, everything. No joy.
Curiously, even though I can't make or receive calls, or send or receive texts, data still works (not wifi, data) - I mean, lolwut? And WiFi works.
And there's nothing wrong with my network because my SIM works fine in another phone I have, and I've talked to Vodafone (which was a frankly useless call).
Does anybody have any suggestions? I'd really appreciate any input.
Thanks!
Update: Now data doesn't work. Humph.

Already tried that. Turns out my phone has been IMEI locked. Hmm. Which is strange given that it isn't lost or stolen...
I remember this happened to me on my Nexus One.. that i couldn't set it back no matter what i did..
Always do a Nand backup before tempering with those settings. I dunno how i fixed it but possibly i reflashed my Rom. Try that without wipe..

Hi:
I recently moved an unlocked phone to a new carrier (Virgin Mobile, Canada).
The WiFi hotspot connects fine to other (Win7/Win8) machines, but no data gets through.
USB tethering works as it should as do all the on phone internet data functions I have tried.
I have looked at all the setting I can find values for in the APN menu, thanks to another poster in this forum) but all seem correct. The hotspot setup itself has not changed from the, previously, working one.
Tech support at both the carrier and the phone manufacturer are not able to help and now are pointing to the other side so I am on my own at this point.
Any ideas?

That is the problem in android. Somethings "something" will change, causing it to malfunction. I have seen a loot of those problems, even in real life and here on xda. I recomend if you have custom recovery to do a full wipe, and if you are willing to, install a custom rom.
So i recently flashed cyanogen mod 12.1 for my galaxy s5 ... Everything seems to be working well except for one major thing, that being mobile data...... there is a exclamation point in the Bar/Internet notification at the top, and I can't access anything on the web without using WiFi. This might be because I'm using the Sprint flash for my Virgin Mobile phone, but they are the same model G900P. I've tried in the mobile network setting changing the access point name to virgin mobile, but it still isn't working . I'm not sure if I should change any of these settings under the virgin mobile access point settings or what I should do. Please help someone before I resort back to stock Touch wiz

Did you do a full wipe and the dalvik also? If not, that might be the problem.

It's my understanding that although Virgin, Boost, Replublic, and Sprint all use the same network, the phones themselves aren't compatible with the other "carriers". It's interesting that regular telephony works, but this could be because you flashed the firmware, just like flashing phones from 10 years ago often worked. Sprint uses CDMA for telephony, so perhaps this is why this works, but data, which uses GSM, does not. It's also my understanding that the way Sprint determines network compatibility is by the ESN/IMEI. CDMA will also be part of the phone itself, whereas GSM info will be on the SIM card, so that might have something to do with it as well.
I'm doing a lot of guessing here, so take my "understanding" with the appropriate amount of salt grains.
Did everything work properly before you flashed CM?
I can change the carrier selection option under sprint to virgin mobile, but it still doesn't work... if that helps... and yeah, calls are fine but mobile data is a no no also yes everything else in the rom installed properly
No Sim card issue
Running Bliss pop 4 (cm12.1) on vmu g900p.
3g and telephony work out of the box but 4g does not. Lock screen says no Sim card. I have called virgin to verify that my Sim card number matches what they have on file. And searched low and high for solutions. Any idea?
Sorry to bring back a dead topic, but did you finally get a solution to your problem? I am facing the same thing with a g900p on RingPlus. (purchased from Freedompop) I managed to get data when i flash back to a the stock Sprint rom.
