[Q] apps in new app market??????? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi, I'm new here and I have questions. I have aon't ericsson xperia x10 with At&t.First, is there any way for m to do the android 2.1 upgrade without having to have a computer? Next, I was familiarizing myself with the updated market; I installed a particular apple, but when I went to access the app, I got that all too familiar error mag........your phone has Beeb set to block installation of apps, blah blah blah, outside of the market. I'm all confused now. Could someone please help me with this bloody phone? Pol

Sorry. I may have posted in wrong spot. I'll get better. Pol

It's no problem!
It's a pretty simple fix go to: Settings -> Applications and then check the option "Unknown Sources". That will allow you to install apk's from outside of the market.
===And now the Warning===
Please keep in mind that you are installing something that did not come from the android market, you could potentially get your phone infected by malware, spyware, viruses, etc. Be sure you pay close attention to the resources the software will be using before you install it. If it looks like it's using a resource it shouldn't be using then don't install it and if you need too ask someone here on XDA if they know anything about it.
Good luck and I hope that helps!

Unknown Sources option
Unfortunately there is no option for unknown sources. I've done everything I could find on the web and here.

Is antivirus must for Android

I'm seeing anti virus software for phones, are there any viruses around for android? Is worth wasting RAM and CPU on anti-virus program
I use to have it installed on my android but I have not yet heard of a virus for android platform. I uninstalled it.
Well, antivirus is probably not the right word but an app which will check what you install to see if a malware will be nice...
Lookout might be that tool but i don't know any malicious apps to test it
If you only install software from the Market, you'd probably be fine without anti-virus. And you'd have to make sure not to visit any 'shady' websites on your phone.
I believe it is necessary...
Check out the first Android RootKit:

.. I have Lookout installed for this purpose , and to find my device if I forget it somewhere.. LOL
Like tuxStyle was saying, Im sure if we grant wrong application to access personal information and internet, end result will be very bad.
Im little sceptical Google itself made us vulnerable by tempting to use everything on cloud basis.
One recommendation is when you install apps, check the allowed permission is really necessary. so far I couldn't find any application that allow us to limit in each application . but firewall apps are coming up. we need more.

Yes but according to the article anti virus cannot detect rootkit

[Q] Antivirus

I will be getting my transformer in a couple days. I am a complete noob to android (first device) and need to know if antivirus is necessary on this device. Specifically:
1. Does the transformer come with any antivirus built in.
2. Do you feel android devices need antivirus, if the user is careful, and
3. If so, do you recommend a specific program?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
No antivirus is included and I really haven't felt the need to find and install one.
I think we are mostly safe if we get our apps from trusted sources like Android Market or Amazon Appstore.
If you go out downloading APK files from shady websites I suppose you could have a problem.

Removing Unwanted Apps.

I have bought some apps from the Android Market which I no longer want to use. Is there any way to remove them from my "Not Installed" list on Android Market?
This is not a Galaxy Note related problem but a general Android related one. So in the general Android forum you will get much easier and faster an answer.

'No, there isn't' would've been a much shorter reply
This is the one Android annoyance nobody seems to care about doing anything to fix.
There must be some leftover bits and pieces somewhere to remove from apps that get into Not Installed. On my phone the only apps that have gone there are four out of the many pre-installed apps I had no use for.
I've never had any other apps, sideloaded or market downloads, go to not installed after uninstalling with the built in app management.
Using other tools like SDX Stock App Remover can cause that to happen. For some of those, using SDX to put the apk back then using root explorer to remove it fixed the not installed entry.
Searching for a way to remove all trace of Sprint's NASCAR and football apps, TeleNav and Samsung MediaHub.
Titanium Backup shows there's some database files for two of them but does not show the full path to their location.
When someone with a lot of Android knowledge gets annoyed by that, then we'll see a fix. until then it looks like we're stuck with junk we do not want on our phones.
The history is held on Google's server. If you do a wipe-data+cache on the market app, that's all you can do on the phone end, beyond that it's just pulling data from Google.
Have a look at all the junk on your market account on the website.

Google Play v3.9.16

Hey guys. Nothing to do with me, but I felt it was worth reposting the info here - if only because you can now delete apps from your "All Apps" list at long last.

I'm sure that people will post other places to get it from but just to get you going;-

Enjoy - I've just downloaded and will try it out now.
--------------------------------------------------
Update - seems to work fine (currently on Reaper v4) and removing apps from the list works. It isn't the fastest process in the world as you only seem to be able to do each one at a time, but after a couple of minutes they then disappear from the Google Play website list as well!! I've been waiting for this feature for 18 months now - well done Google.
Just one word of warning - try not to delete any of your paid apps/games as I'm not entirely sure what the effect would be - likely that you would have to pay again if you wanted to re-install them, just like it is if you delete any of your purchased media from Google. If an app is currently installed though you can't delete it, so that should make most things safe.
--------------------------------------------------
Now that Google have proved it IS possible to allow us to remove unwanted apps from our lists, I really really hope they put this facility on the web-site some time. I've spent the best part of two hours now deleting all the cr4p I've tried-out over the last 18 months and I'm only about half way there
--------------------------------------------------
Finally :victory: Now when I go to the "My Android Apps" page I have 6 pages of "Apps installed on ..." and only 8 applications listed in the "Other apps in my library!
Now I can keep the damn thing under control - if I don't like an app I can just delete it immediately, and when I install a new ROM I can actually find the apps I need to re-install quickly and easily.
New Google Play Update
I love the new update and I also noticed deleting apps from the list one by one could take forever, I did some research and discovered if you long press the app you want to remove you can then click all the other apps you don't want and remove them at once. Awesome!

How do you install this.....?
Mine keeps saying that it's not installed because a similar app is already there or something like that....

It should just install straight over the top. Make sure you have "Unknown Sources" ticked and post the exact error message if it doesn't work.

Have a look here
There is also a guide on the DS forums here
For me, the SABS Prime v8.5 Android Market v3.9.16 works beautifully.
However, the ICE DS v 5.3, unfortunately no new features.

[Completed] [Q] Random adds popping up on my android

I downloaded an app through a website on my android and when it had installed it turned out to be an app called 'FIle Manager'. Its now locked into my phone. Iv tried going to settings-apps and clicking on the app but its not giving me the option to uninstall or even forcestop. Iv run various malware protection apps but its not picking it up. And adds keep popping up on my phone. Im considering rooting my phone so i can use the bloatware apps.
Before i do that, does anyone know how i can go about removing this app?
My phone is Sony Xperia M2 Aqua and its running on version 4.4.4
Thanks.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. If you Harry a really bad app on your device is return it to stock and start all over. That way you'll be staying with a like new device. Backup anything like pics, music, sms, etc that you don't want to lose of your device first. If you have further questions see your device's specific fork here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2. They are the experts on your device.
