"Dungeon Defenders: First Wave will be released for Android on December 23."

Yay!

I just want to chime in and say for $2.99 you can't beat that price. I've spend some time away from angry birds because of this game.

this is definitely a great game and a must by; however I do want to say that I wish the controls were more responsive, it feels a bit floaty. It's hard to describe but in some games you feel movement instantly but in this game there is a very very short delay that you don't see but you feel it. Regardless that's a small problem and overall it's one of the best games I've ever played on Android hands down.

Great game! Love it

Please bring me ikaruga for droid!

I haven't really posted here before (just rather used xda for learning/issues mostly) so im sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum for requesting apps. I've done some reading and it seems a dreamcast emulator is still a ways off, but I'm not really worried about dreamcast as much as I am the game ikaruga. I only played this game a few times at a friends house but I fell in love with it. I think this game could run well on newer phones with good processors. I have a droid x and would be forever grateful to whoever could bring this game to the droid and I would totally pay for this if it were released. Just a suggestion..
I would pay for this as well! Definitely the best vertical shooter in my mind.

I agree. Not only was this game beautifully laid out and full of action, it was also a puzzle at the same time. You had to shoot the hell outta things as well as change the light/dark modes to avoid masses of bullets/missles/debri/etc...It was very hard yet challenging and you had to pretty much remember the patterns of each level in order to get further. Like you said, the best vertical shooter i've ever played in my opinion and I only played it a few times.
Ikaruga was fun. Although it wouldn't exactly be possible to do a direct port.. Especially as it's a commercial game where we don't have access to the source and DC emulation isnt great on computers. rRootage (concept based on Ikaruga, nowhere near as good) is open source I believe and was ported to the PSP a while back. Kenta Cho's games are awesome

Ya, I've read nothing but troubles with dreamcast emulation. Even though new phones could handle it, I know that the process is very difficult (even though I know very little about programming/development). Even a game like you mentioned thats based off Ikaruga would suffice. I want a vertical shooter thats not just shootem up but actually has a puzzle-like atmosphere where you have to you use your problem-solving skills as well as be very quick and strategic with your enemies. I was just enchanted by a game that was so difficult when you first started but got easier as you remembered where to switch light/dark as well as handle an onslaught of enemies (who were also more weak/resistant to each of the modes which added for even more strategy.). Almost impossible at first, but with promise to move further if you had good skills; unlike some games that are basically impossible to beat without cheats. You'd think I played this game a lot seeing how much I'm talking about it but I only was able to make it through the first 2 levels or so b/c it was so difficult and I only got to play it a few times at a friends.
Back to the subject though, someone pretty pleeease develop a game similar to this.

What type of games do you prefer?

Hi.
I have talked with friend of mine who has developed couple Android applications about making some games for android. We have worked together before on one game and we have working 3d engine that was successfully ported to Android.
My part in this will be to make up some cool game, and to do all graphics (2d and 3D).
So if you don't mind, I will love to hear from rest of android users, what types of games do you prefer or will like to play on your mobile device. That will help us a lot in this early stages to make some concept that will be interesting to more people.
Thank you all.
P.S. you can chose multiply types in poll.
Simple, addicting, and smooth.

Games that can be played with one hand. Of course good graphic is always good. Whenever I'm riding subway, I have to stand and have to play with one hand cause the other hand is holding a pole to hold my body. It sucks cause the only game i can play that's fun with one hand is Abduction!
city jump!
good one handed fun

yeah; it's a nice game; I was kind of suprised by it.
P.S. I don't wan't to sound inpatient or annoying, but I would like if more people had given their vote... Topic has over 170 views, and just 12 votes... It will be really helpful if i get more votes.
Thank you all once again.
I prefer single player RPGs like the Elder scrolls games, mmorpgs are always full of annoying kids and griefers.
I'm a big fan of simple games. What I would like to see the most is some kind on simcity like game. Something that I can play casully at work but has depth to it.

agreed but I still enjoy SLASH'EM on my N1
How do you select the poll using the xda app?
As for gaming, simple addictive and easy control, angry birds is obviously one of the best portable games, love pocket legends but it requires a good solid internet connection to play, not always available, wordsmith is probably my favourite a game played using minimal internet use online but at your leisure, basic scrabble really.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I vote for some good bluetooth/wifi adhoc multiplayer games, co-op would be cool, Golden Axe or BubbleBubble style, not internet multiplayer games as I have a PC for that.
I play quick games on my phone.
I go for a morning coffee and my mates are not there so a play a bit of angry birds, simple 5 min games. Nip to the loo to sit on the throne and the same there. more in-depth games i stick to the PC
But saying that I did enjoy playing The Scummvm games i.e. monkey island on my Palmtop, as long as I can end the game suddenly and pick up where I left off the next time.

It's amazying.
I made it to halfway through world 2- here are my thoughts.
This game is beautiful- it looks great, and the way it works is absolutely fantastic. I can honestly say it is one of the best games I've yet to play on Android- maybe the best.
That being said, it is way too big. 5MB should be the max before installation to SD should be implemented- this game is over 20. Either work on reusing more textures, or have it install to SD.
I was playing with the device laying down, and the gravity button was flipping out- switching every update cycle and just going crazy. You may want to have it display an X if the values aren't high enough to justify a gravity switch (I love the way this mechanic works, by the way!)
Fix these issues, and most standard prices you would ask for would be too low for this game- I would gladly pay for more worlds. (Though, if more worlds were added, you may want to work on the difficulty curve- if you want my thoughts on that, let me know). Again, great job!
Thanks that's huge compliment you give us there.. we are really appreciate.
We will work on the to SD feature.. since a lot of people had demanded it! I'll update it ASAP.
there are some reason makes us can't reuse texture though
first .. our artist is new in drawing texture for games... he just draw whatever he feels right and not considering about texture size and reusability. (we will do it better next time)
second.. in some device.. too many sprites makes game really laggy.. so we tend to use huge jpg file for background
i don't know anything about marketing on android app.... because we are totally noobies in this... Actually this game is not only our first game on android.. it's our first android app if you don't count "Hello World" as a app XD
After we think we learn enough to build this game. we go straight into it. It take us 5 months to build because we need to learn new stuff along the way
I use XNA mostly, and my brother use c++ and some graphic engine from his lab, neither did we use andengine before. and we love it!
We are thinking putting ads in it....and yet it's something we never tried XD, so I might need to check documents. After that we will release a clean ads free version for 0.99$ i think..for us.. most important thing is people can play our game. and feel it's not waste of time. those few hour must actually means something
Downloaded to my htc inspire 4G. I Am amazed by what you have created. This is awsome! I love free...but this needs to be a paid game. It is worth every penny.

This game is pretty awesome. Albeit I've had my phone for about 2 months, I've never played a game with these game mechanics. Very original and an amazing first app. I also just started learning android and will be developing my first app in the coming months, and I don't think it will be nearly as good.
thanks
thanks!I think you will do it great too! we just began java programming 4 months ago!
It's easy to learn!

it's a great game!
Just read about this on the portal. Downloaded it on my A100 and started playing, will have to download it to my EVO 3D later. Love it. This is definitely better than some of the games that other devs charge for. Excellent work.
Last night i try it on galaxy S, and work superb, thanks
I am trying to download it through market, but I am getting device incompatibility message. I am using Samsung Galaxy S GT I9003. Does it have region restrictions, I am trying from India
On the market it says my device is not supported

[Further Beyond Fighting] Xperia PLAY makes a nearly unplayable fighter playable!

If you haven't seen it yet, Further Beyond Fighting is now officially Xperia PLAY Optimized.
I remember playing this on iOS... and it was kind of a wreck... kinda >_>.
Looking at the reviews on both the iOS and Android versions, it's clear that "touch-screen" and "fighting game" just don't belong in the same sentence... this game got rated a lot lower than it deserves just from that.
Swapping between touch and physical controls, it's a MASSIVE difference.
Now it's all smooth-as-butter performance, WITH controls that respond

Graphics is great, but the gameplay is not that good.. There's no spectacular combo, I can't jump either.. there's also a random lag on my phone..

I had Street Fighter IV Volt on my 4th Gen iPod Touch... Capcom did alright with the limitations they had to work with, but compared to buttons it still sucked ass.
I'm hoping Capcom will release SFIV Volt on Xperia PLAY too so I can play it for real.
has very bad reviews.. bruce lee is even better despite its insane difficulty.. (just the memorize-all-combos part though)

Of course it does... people been playing it with horrible touch-controls.
Lol if I had to play a fighter with touch-controls, I'd give it a very bad rating too. It's not perfect, of course, but after playing with touch controls then getting a substantially more responsive experience on Xperia PLAY, this feels like a brand new game. This is why Xperia PLAY kicks every other smartphone's ass at gaming.
Bad reviews because of it being poorly polished, that is. Judging from the game's screenies and video, it looks mediocre. Half-cooked. That's why.
I'm kinda addicted now.. I just love fighting games.. Eventhough I can't jump, no touch pad support, no good combo, only few characters.. but i'm sure this will not take that long because of those issues..

I doubt anything will beat Tekken 3 to be honest.
This doesn't look good at all.
No, this game looks terrible. I mean if this game had better gameplay and graphics then it would be worth it. It seems like a bad game from a fly by night vaporware dev. No offense to anyone who enjoys this game.
Exactly. Nailed it.
Hey There!
Hi Guys, it's us from PJS-Coding - developers of Further Beyond Fighting!
First: Thank you TLRtheory for this thread. We're glad you're all discussing our game.
Regarding all your feedback: We plan to implement new combo moves shortly.
New moves are a top priority for one of the next updates. And if you have any feedback and features you want us to implement, just drop us a mail: support.android(AT)further-beyond-fighting(DOT)com
We're available 365 days a year and respect all the feedback we get. TLRtheory can confirm that; he was one of the persons who asked us to add Xperia PLAY support. And now it's here!
Stay in touch!
Now that's what I like to see from a dev.
I think its great that you are listening and participating through the Xda community. I wonder is or was there ever a demo release of the title? It seems that a round or two of the game would open the flood gates for areas of oppurtunites.

IMO a demo would be a better idea than a "free to play" version, I tend to stay away from free to play games or free games with in app purchases. As these tend to alway run in the background, and flood your notification bar with "special offers" Gun bros by glu is a prime example of this
I really loved playing Gun Bros but uninstalled for that very reason.

Good vertical shooters??

Anybody have any good vertical shooters they can recommend? Not a really big fan of bullet hell ones, just plain old shooters.
Try Radiant. Pretty cool retro graphics.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hexage.radiant.hd&hl=en
Yeah radiant is awesome, one of my favorites. I was looking for something more along the lines of RayStorm and RayForce on iOS. Or Darius Burst which was my absolute favorite shooter on iOS. That one is a side scroller though.
I'm replying since I'd love to find.one, as well. I would love something.in the style of 1943... I know I could emulate it, but I'd be happier with something designed for a touchscreen.

Have you tried Shogun (Market link)? My boss is a huge Japanese shmup fan, and he swears it's just as difficult as some of the arcade shooters he's imported. I've played it quite a bit, and it gets to be pretty insane.
Edit: Noticed that you're not a huge fan of bullet hell shooters. I'd say give it a shot anyways, you never know, you may enjoy it.

Yeah I had it on my iPhone. The first level was cool but it got insanely difficult real fast. There's just too much crap going on and too much stuff to dodge with bullet hells that at least for me, takes all the fun out of the game.

I was gonna come here and suggest exactly that game rofl. I'm currently ranked 50th in the world, 13th in the United States on the demo level leaderboard.
I can tell you that the best way to play is to pull up mid field and straddle slow bullets as they trail down the screen. Surf and ride the edge of the bullet waves hard and early.... Turn your hitbox on and set ship color to dark to help gauge your exact damage zone.
This grazing of bullets builds your shields/power bar. I power up the spread gun with my two initial shields at the very start of the level. Keep grazing, surfing the easy waves as much as possible. Build your gun up and send it into overdrive often as you can and you'll power through and get an insane score. Generally use the laser or the homing only for certain minibosses and boss formations.
Oh, and you don't know how truly difficult the game can be until you start doing flawless sections... there are hidden enemy waves and minibosses that only show if you are making perfect runs with skill. The bullet density and patterns adjust to skill on the fly.
Just saying that in case anybody is interested in that game, I know it can be a daunting genre but there is a genuine sense of accomplishment and reward when you get a high score on a shoot 'em up. :3
