[Q] google maps 5 for droid eris and/or sprint hero is bull**** - General Topics

I just updated to google maps 5 on the android market place with my droid eris and it does not basically have any features. I don't have vector based mapping, maybe I do, but it does not seem like it does. I don't have pre-caching because when I go to menu>more>cache settings I don't have that option! If anyone is getting this, please let me know if this is only for my phone or just that google is messing up.

Google Maps 5?

a bunch of sites and videos are already up of people running Maps 5 on their phones
however, i try to search for it on the market and it doesnt come up...
following this link
market://details?id=com.google.android.apps.maps
makes it say 'The requested item could not be found'
anyone else getting this?
looks like i need Market Enabler to get Google Maps 5 ....
I already have it but I can't rotate, any ideas ?
Motorola Milestone G.O.T. Froyo ROM
can you do multi touch gestures on your phone? like can you zoom in the maps...
Yes. All gestures work on other apps.
Milestone is identical to the droid except it's gsm.
And i'm running froyo... so i don't get why it's not working.
i have a feeling that this is something for the Droid-specific forums? my Galaxy S works perfectly fine with the new Maps...

[Q] The Maps app in Xoom Commercial??

Probably a dumb question, but what app is that in the Motorola commercial for the Xoom with the buildings displayed in 3d? Is that just Google Maps for honeycreams, or some other app Im not aware of? Id love to try it out if its available for Froyo/Ginger. Thanks!
I can do the same on my phone. Google Maps V5.2.1
I thought this was only available on Honeycomb.

Sweet! Thank you!
Edit: I downloaded the 5.2.1 but I still dont see the option to show the buildings in an area in the 3d look that it showed in the Xoom commercial.
Is there an option/layer Im missing?

[Q] Question about Google Account and Xoom

I have a new Xoom on the way. I have an OG Droid. Can I sign into my current Google account that exists on my OG Droid and access my apps when I get my new Xoom?
It would be cool to download all my apps from my current account but didn't know if I could access the account on two different devices.
Yes you can.
Both devices will then be listed in your Google account and you can actually log in and tell it which app's you want on which device.
If you didn't know (I didn't) you can access this "market" online using your Google credentials.
Yes. When you're in the Market and tap "My Apps" you will see (only) purchased apps listed on the left under your installed apps which you may once again download.
*Edit* Land Master types faster than me.
Thanks to both of you. I am looking forward to it!

They also have to be compatible with honeycomb as well, or they will not show up.

How can we get Google to develop a Honeycomb Google Voice app?

One of the main reasons I went with an Android Honeycomb tablet versus the iPad 2 is the deep level of Google account integration with Honeycomb. I was willing to overlook the lack of Honeycomb-based apps, knowing that Google would push it as they did O.G. Android (and that certainly paid off).
Oddly enough -- one of the few apps that you cannot even download for Honeycomb even though there is a pre-3.0 counterpart, is Google Voice. GV users on HC have to download an old, hacked version of the APK (to give you an idea of how out-dated, it is from before the GV app had push notifications).
How do we go about pushing Google to get HC users a working GV app, one that we can download from the Market??
I hate starting things like this, but the situation is dire (okay, not really, but still!). My plan is to tweet "Please @googlevoice push out a #Honeycomb compatible #googlevoice TODAY!" or "What does #Honeycomb and #iOS have in common? No native @googlevoice app!"
I LOVE Gvoice. Google has said they are working on it. I don't know what is taking so long, but if you search the forums you can find a newer modded apk that works with honeycomb.
I'm sure the official app for 3.x will be sick.
You don't even need a modded apk it works out of box. I just set it top sync every five minutes and it works like a champ

I'm pretty sure google has already stated that they're working on it. But, on a side note, I'm using the hacked version of Google Voice and it's not ancient / outdated afaik. If anything, there may have been one new release since the version I'm running.
I would definitely support a HC Google Voice version, I'm just saying they're *supposedly* already working on it
Yup, while waiting for Google it doesn't hurt to use the "hacked". The "hacked" I'm using is the latest version, at least for my N1 and TF both running (0.4.2.24)
The HC version better be great to make us wait this long. With an awesome UI. Probably split-screen like the Mail app.

Verizon (App Compatibility)

Why does it seem that a ton of apps are not compatible?
I can download all of them for my galaxy nexus but a ton of apps are listed as not-compatible and it won't even let me try to download them from google play.
It's getting pretty annoying.
Anyone else coming to the same conclusions and does anyone have a workaround?

Why not tell us what apps aren't working?
The Dark One
I'm pretty sure the only way certain apps are restricted is based on major android version releases (ie. 2.0, 3.0, 4.0). I could be wrong though...
The nexus had 4.0, and so does the galaxy so I don't see why some would be restricted (based on my original assumption).
Two apps I found that weren't available were google wallet and some app to help transfer music (supposed to be free from samsung). Both apps I found outside the app store but I had to root my phone for google wallet.
Verizon wants you to use Isis not Google Wallet. So why on earth would they allow you to use competitor's software on a device they didn't make?
You're asking for way too much here.
