HTC Magic to get Froyo from Vodafone - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Hey, I just found this at Reddit:
http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...-2-2-upgrade-915528?poll=result&asid=2ec5c031
May be useful for some devs.

Not sure but I think this will only apply to 32b and not 32a phones.

I though Vodafone sold 32A in UK ?
It would be nice to have it stock only with root/busybox

How exactly will this differ from the TMO update? :S

Not sure of this if the same as the us t- mo version and am not too keen to go back to stock so that I download another perfect spl
This was announced yesterday and this is the only thread about it I have seen.
Poor little magic hasn't seen the light of day since I got my dell streak and desire

French operator SFR also released an over-the-air 2.2 update a week ago. But French Magic tend to be 32B. Not sure if this has any point...

WM5 3G handsets are official now!

Fellows,
Good news!!! HTC Europe website has posted/announced the 3G WM5 handsets - HTC TyTN (a.k.a. HTC Hermes/XDA Trion/MDA Vario II/iMate JasJam/Qtek 9600) and HTC MTeoR (a.k.a. HTC Breeze/Qtek 8600). For details, please visit the HTC Europe website:
http://europe.htc.com/
Cheers!
Of course the Europeans get this before the States, so ridiculous, so usual...
So for those who really understand these things... once it is unlocked, this will work in the US on Cingular right? Because this looks like it is going to make my 8125 look like a horse drawn buggy...

Its only because we (Europeans) are not out looking for weapons of mass disstraction and thus have more time to play with our new toys.

I am not agree this . HTC was made all PPC in Taiwan , and Dopod sell HTC PPC in Asia , now HTC own Dopod , HTC had own company in European that's why you had new PPC early than others , we will see in the future is Asia or European get faster,
The states always got later than European because US carriers ony two carriers had some of HTC PDA and in states we dont 3G ,why we can get 3G phone early than European or Asia ? :?
WM5 3G
[/b]Seems Asia and Europe will get the new 3G at the same time. Financial news in Taiwan this morning reported 2 models from HTC which looks the same as those being circulated in Europe. To0 bad the US is somewhat lagging in releases like this. Maybe madmonkey can get some imports once it's out
think eu is a bit more mobil crazed then us are
at least last year (or was it the year before)
more sms's was sendt in my country then in us
not talking pr. person or anything.

T-Mobile's MDA Compact IV

Does anybody know which device this phone is?
http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/04/eyes-on-with-t-mobiles-mda-compact-iv/
Most likely its an HTC, but it looks like the polaris but its even better.
Why would they release two similar phones so soon after each other?
T-Mobile Shadow. Cheers!
It could be HTC Pharos I think....
but 4 GB storage? Hm....
actually it is the htc touch diamond but it's the germany tmobile version known as the MDA compact 4. T-mobile and HTC are now working together to make great mda's. And if you don't know htc was making the diamond but with a full qwerty keyboard and they were going to call it the raphael but t-mobile is going to call it the Vario 4. The Compact 4 is coming out in "Germany" Next month(July) for a not yet determined price and the vario 4 will be released in autumn for Germany. Well i hope this helps and i hope Europe releases those phones to US soon or i'll be very upset. lol

That's a "Victor" rather than a "Diamond". Same device, just different casing design!
I checked T-Mobile UK customer services and they say that T-Mobile UK is expecting MDA compact 4 in July 2008! So we may get this device in UK soon!

I went into a T-Mobile shop to ask about any release date and the sales staff just looked at me blankly and shrugged their shoulders!!

I hope they sort out the aledged 'laggy' response on the screen graphics of the HTC Diamond I have read about in some reviews...my advice is a 'hands on' test of a real retail version of the device in the store before handing over your cash
the compact 4 is being relesed in uk sometime before september (my tmob contracts due for upgrade then so i got the details of new phones outta their upgrades team earlier this week. - and it IS a diamond with tmob badges

Diamonds (HTC Touch Diamond that is... not the compact 4) are available in the UK as of now, i dont get why it takes tmobile so long to simply rebadge the diamond (its quite minimal from what ive seen).
I am on a tmobile contract with my HTC TyTN, but i plan on using the upgrade for a handset for the Mrs, i like the look of the Raphael anyway (HTC Touch Pro..........Vario IV).

I think the Compact IV is a Victor (no Diamond effect stuff) rather than a Diamond (P3702 rather than P3700).
I guess operators want to try and get the most money from the current devices before making money from the new ones...
The T-Mo phones do have a redecorated TF3D though...
This is MDA compact 4

Donut for HTC Magic (Rogers)

Does anybody know when the donut will official be available for HTC magic Rogers. I am interested because unlike 1.5 cupcake the rogers one had a exchange support. Since donut 1.6 other than rogers still did not have it therefore I am thinking donut for rogers magic will have a exchange support maybe enhanced version. SO when would expect that to happen.

I thought only Google branded phones would get the update ota? So it would be up to Rogers to put their own update up right? I just thought that was the point of buying a Google branded phone. The Rogers is not a Google branded phone.

[ROM]RUU_Bravo_Froyo_O2_UK_2.14.207.1_Radio_32.44.00.32 U_5.09.05.30_2

Here new RUU for Bravo
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.exe
Enjoy!
That's very quick! I don't think O2 has even announced it yet.
Is this an update from the older Froyo ROMs (2.09.405.8) or just a carrier specific ROM?
Carrier specific - hence the 'o2 UK' in the title...
It's O2's branded froyo release.
can anyone say which kernel is in....??
I think the new releases in the moment...2.12 and this 2.14 are the same than 2.09 there are only provider releases with a new radio...
I´m right...???!!???
with kind regards...Alex
Has anyone tied this yet?
Running (rooted myself) since yesterday. Looks good so far. It had some Germa-speaking apps inside, so I guess it's for O2 Germany, not UK.

[Q] Will uk vodafone be locked?

Ie Could I buy sim free and put O2 sim in it??
You won't be able to buy simfree from Vodafone, but once it's out at places like Amazon, you will be able too put any SIM card in you want, yes.
It won't be sim locked. they say none of their phones are.
I thought all of Vodafone's devices were locked. Great news if it's unlocked.
I bought my HD2 directly from the Vodafone UK website about 18 months ago and it's unlocked.
But my DHD is locked to t-mobile
Vodafone haven't locked Contract phones for years now. PAYG however...
I ordered mine from Vodafone today, are we expecting this to be a standard version or a Vodafone infected version.
Vodafone rom, with their super fast update schedule- not. Without doubt.
Thanks for reminding me on that one. Im definately waiting till when I return from honeymoon in mid june. If I buy it, definately getting it sim free with maybe a 3 mobile ayce sim. Vodafone lag way behind official updates.

Given the speed it's coming out, I kind of expect a stock ROM.

Having said that mate, Vodafone have an EU release clause with HTC, so when an update goes live in the EU, it goes live in the UK too. Not like other carries. Vodafone got the official GB release before anyone else on the DHD

I'm also betting on them sticking to stock ROM to get the initial batch out as early as possible.
Even if it's a branded ROM I won't mind too much as Vodafone have recently been getting HTC ROM updates out before unbranded updates (as crazy as that sounds) and their bloatware seems to be reduced as of late too.

The only 'bloatware' my original Vodafone HTC Magic had was a Vodafone Live! app, which only ran if you wanted to use it.

If my new Sensation arrives with no bloatware, I will make an effort to thank them on the Vodafone eforum. I like to let them know I appreciate it

Given how fast we are getting them, I bet they will just be direct from HTC to the customers! I hope so at least!
Re: rom updates. Can only go off when hd2 got released. We had to wait a fair bit for updates. Cant comment on other handsets. Sorry

Silly question perhaps, but even if the vodafone handset is unlocked, will we still have to wait for vodafone to release updates or will we get them straight from HTC?

Pretty sure if this is the case then the updates will come straight from HTC, but I'm no expert.

With the Desire, it had to come from Vodafone unless you debrand it and flash a WWE RUU via Goldcard. The initial batch were unbranded though. There was much noise made when Vodafone delayed the Froyo update and initially released firmware which had a branded splash screen and various other useless bits and pieces (eg links to dating services, Vodafone Live, etc etc). It was then retracted and an unbranded Froyo was subsequently released. This whole fiasco was even reported on TechRadar UK
I think Vodafone pay monthly phones are all unlocked. It says so on their website. If I remember correctly, their phones did used to be locked but you could request an unlock code once your contract was up (or I think pay a small fee). The only exception was the Blackberry Storm, but let's not reopen old wounds I think I threw mine hard into a brick wall
