Tablet on Clearance - G Tablet General

Just returned my tablet to the Sears in Fairfield Commons Mall in Fairborn OH. The guy just slapped a clearance sticker on it. I thought it had touch issues but I'm convinced it was a issue with the screen being too dirty. Returned it so I could free up money for a new video card. Have fun.

I was just here looking around at the G Tablet. Too bad its like a 40 minute drive to get there.

I just picked up mine from that store yesterday. Havent had any issued with it, but I am on the fence about keeping it. Did they charge you any restocking fees? Did you have any mods on it when you returned it?

They will charge a restock fee on opened items with no defects. You could still complain that the device has no official Flash, which is definitely a defect. But you might only have until the 19th to use that as your return excuse.

I told them the screen sucked and I got all of my money back with no restocking fee. But yeah you better have some kind of reason. The guy working in electronics was real cool about it so I don't know if it's going to be the same for everyone. I think it got put in the computer as not matching description or something. I don't know. A restocking fee would have been the suck.
If you check out the Motorola tablet demo video running a mixture of honeycomb and gingerbread, you can see Google is taking tablet support seriously. I love the no button design. All the buttons are software so it isn't going to matter which way you have it rotated. And the new panels API is going to allow for some awesome tablet software that will still work well on phones. I would love to have a screen that is like the Nook Color (I bought one as a Chistmas gift for my mother-in-law so I've been um testing it to make sure nothing is wrong with it. I figure It would be best if I test up until the 24th so I can be totally sure.) with the hardware found in the G Tablet. That would be amazing. I'm hoping I can find something like that next year. So I'm going to start saving now cause something like that isn't going to be cheap.

Returning for Galaxy Tab =X

Ok guys, it was a good run... a week run. I don't mind this tablet, I tried TNT 2.2 and ZPAD. I liked them both, TNT a little more.
-This tablet has AMAZING potential, and awesome hardware such as the processor. Software out of the BOX is again like everyone says: HORRIBLE.
Overall build quality is pretty good, not considering the little creeks you get holding the center of the back.
-The official thing that ticked me off to return this tablet was.....wait for it............ LCD Display and viewing angles. Im sorry but it seems like its from the Early 2000's not a display we would see in many electronics Now a days.
-Another deciding factor for me is the touch sensitivity, didn't do it for me. Not as sensitive as I would like.
-Non-illuminated keys, hard to use at night, keys get pressed easily at night.
So after thinking if i should wait for iPAD2, since the rumors are racing; or get Galaxy Tab,
Ive decided to get the Galaxy Tab - I got a brand NEW Galaxy Tab(Sprint) on Ebay for $500 - White backing, Sealed BRAND NEW In BOX. No contract.
I'll be turning the Data OFF and using it as WiFi only, It wont be linked to Sprint, I will NOT activate the 3g.
I got to check the device out, and its extremely portable, its nice. 7 Inch isnt THAT bad at all.
Any comments?
Sorry to see you go. Enjoy your new tablet!
I see these goodbye posts all the time in all the forums I've been a part of. And "sorry" is almost in each post?At the end you just need to be happy with your product. Personally I am not replacing this tablet for anything that's out right now because of the dual core tegra 2 processor. My next tablet is going to be another T2 but definitely a better screen and hopefully a gig of RAM. I don't care if its a 10 or 7 inch tablet because both are practically the same in reference to portability since I can't fit them in my pocket.
Honestly, the only goodbye post that I am looking out for is Roebeets, Rothnic, Bekit, or any other devs. But I figured i'd chime in because I don't think anyone should be sorry for moving on to a different device....unless you were getting a cruz tablet then it would be flame city for you. Jk
I'm sure you'll enjoy ur galaxy tab because its a nice device.
Not gonna disagree with any of your complaints, and if it is not right for you, then get the one you want.
Personally I don't mind the screen, since it is only for me, and I just hold it at the right angle. The non-illuminated buttons are a bit of a silly oversight (and I would much prefer real buttons to those capacitive ones) but I don't mind so much since it has on-screen soft-buttons.
I like it because it is well powered (battery and processor), inexpensive, and has a large display.
Most importantly is that it is easily modifiable. If it wasn't it would have gone right back. It nearly did anyway because I was falsely told by Sears' website that it was a viewpad 10. Since roebeet, rothnic, omiji (? sorry can't remember), and all the others I cannot name have made this device software so good I see awesome potential beyond the great tablet it has already become.
So VS owes XDA and it's senior modders a lot since without them probably all of us would have returned the POS that VS put on the shelves.
In summation Thank You to the XDA team working on the G tab, and if anyone else is thinking about returning this product consider this before you do so, because Samsung, Apple, or any other manufacturer will not give the type of updates and support you can get here from an open device like this, from a place like XDA.
And to the OP, I hope you enjoy your Galaxy better, I have a Captivate and I like it. I am sure if you want a good experience out of the box like what I have in my Captivate, you will be very happy with it.

I could not of said it better myself.
The notionink adam goes on preorder later today also for $400-500. I'd suggest looking into that tablet also.

Shouldn't be too bad, and at the price that Samsung is hawking these for they should support it for a while and better than any other currently shipping Android tablet.
7": yeah, I'm missing that form factor ALOT myself, but I just can't bring myself to give up Tegra2 for something lesser even for a better(IMNHO) form factor(7") nor a better screen(awful gTab viewing angles).
I'm keeping my gTab(actually I'm stuck now anyways past my 14d Staples return) and evaluating 7" complementary(to gTab) tablets, of which(ATM) Nook Color is looking nice w/IPS screen and a8 CPU plus now rooted. Just need to get over to a B&N and try out a demo unit... (want to see how overall system and browser fare speedwise @800MHz on an a8...)
Might just wait out until next year and see if anyone coughs up a 7" Tegra2 or one of the other SoC companies cough up their dual core a9 SoCs and they get in a 7"...
Notion Ink: They sound nice, but since they're a new/small tablet only company I'm waiting to see if they survive to release their 2nd tablet, hopefully Tegra3 based...
OP should avoid the 101 then, since mega gimped device.
Probably best to wait until March. There should be 2.3 or higher Tegra 2 tablets all over the place by then.
Maybe a very stable out of box 2.3 Gtablet by then too..... Maybe at least.

$375 only!
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/09/notion-ink-adam-pre-order-to-begin-today-pricing-starts-at-375/
I have been refreshing the NI site for days ready to buy Adam but when I got up to bat I couldn't pull the trigger.
$375 is with a standard LCD - not PixelQI. PQ is $499 w/ Wifi or $550 w/ 3G
Shipping is $50 - the thing comes straight from factory in India.
However, a few things made me hesitate on the device I have waited a year on.
- you must also pay 'customs' but nothing states what this fee is
- shipping is $50 through DHL which is not insured
- ccavenue is processing orders and they do not take MC
- you are billed in full as soon as you place order while estimated ship date is 6-8
- given no further manufacturing delays and that shipping is quick 6-8 weeks is a long wait
- specs list "8+ GB Flash"...so is that 8GB or what?
- crazy amount of return conditions the least of which is getting RMA 7 no later than 7 days after shipment (probably take longer than that for DHL to get it to you) and a 20% restocking fee for 'open' items (that's $100 + return shipping)
- no mention of 'bad pixel' policy
So while I am in love with this thing and will be so jealous for those brave enough to order site unseen (not even a hands on or real photo on website) I am just not that brave.
Now the question is....do I open my gTablet and play with it until round 2 or do I look at something maybe a little bit pricier but with a better display?

For those that are wanting but not ordered an Adam - the Pixel QI versions are already sold out. All they have left now is the LCD version.
Since I couldn't pull the trigger on the Adam I guess the only thing standing between me unboxing my g tablet is questions of the viewing angles. Since my wife picked this up from the store I have not seen it in person. Is it really a deal breaker? What is Office Depot return policy on open products - I know during the holidays returns are extended until Jan 8 but not sure if that mean sealed in the box or not? I imagine I could just go and return it Dec 26 if it is that bad....stores are usually so crazy that day they ask few questions about returns.
Oh, and about Notion Ink. They updated their blog explaining some of the conditions (such as $50 shipping) and it is a little more comforting. I never doubted they were a good, honest company. I think my issue is that they are biting off more than they can chew.
Building a fantastic product in a lab is one thing - seeing a new product introduction through the entire manufacturing process is something completely different and that is where I am not sure of NI's experience. While the prospect of waiting sux, I think I am more comfortable doing so than jumping in on the first run.
It is not a question of NI taking care of me if there is an issues, it is a question of when. I am still jealous of all those who did place the order and will kick myself the day everyone starts posting their unboxing videos :-(

Office Depot will give you a return gift ticket for Jan 8th (they did for me). Since Flash and the acceleromter have issues out of box, Office Depot should allow return and no restock or forced store credit (they do this for opened electronics). The store manager wrote on my receipt "Full return allowed", since he was aware of the issues.

For personal viewing/usage I don't really find it to be that noticeable except when I rotate the tablet specifically to look at this and was simultaneously checking for backlight bleed(had bad bleed on GT & WPDN).
Sorry, but there's a problem with a company that immediately charges for an order when they KNOW it will not be shipping for a while. They're SUPPOSED to NOT charge UNTIL the item is shipped or about to be shipped. So this tells me that they're tight on money ATM...

Just purchased a G Tablet...OH NO!!!

Hey all. Well with all my reading on the forums and all the hard work the developers have been doing for this tab, I made up my mind to get this tab instead of the Archos 101. So here's my story:
I went to Sears and saw the G Tablet sitting all alone on a shelf with the security wires around it so that it cannot be opened. I thought that they were selling fast so I grabbed it and paid for it.
I drove back to work and pulled it out of the bag. I reached for a scissors/blade to open the box, but I found that there were no security labels on the box. That was weird. I say so because according to Sears if you return it in an openned condition, theres a 15% restocking fee. I thought they would have made sure that it was seald.
Anyways, I open the box and take a look around the black foam that cushions the tab in the box, and what do I see? CAT HAIR!!!! I thought, how could this be? This is supose to be a NEW tablet. I begin to carefully pull the tablet out of the cover and discover that it is covered in finger prints (5+ fingerprints). WHAT!!!!! I quickly placed it back in its cover so that I do not touch the screen at all. I lift the tab in its cover out of the box and notice an empty zip lock at the bottom of the box where the accessories are. Why is it empty????????? Also, the contents that were suppose to be in it are laying next to it OUTSIDE OF THE BAG!!
I immediatley thought, 'Did Sears just sell me a USED device at full price'? I called Sears and told them I have reason to believe the tablet was used and that I'm bringing it back.
Do you guys think I should bring it back, or should I just suck it up and keep it. Also, has this ever happened to you?
Thanks,
Scott
When I got mine the whole box was sealed.
Hi,
If it were me, I'd definitely take it back and get it replaced with a new one.

I would take it back to the store. With a little persistence, you can probably walk away only paying the refurb price as seen on their outlet site. I have heard others doing the same with other products.
I would test the tablet first and make sure it it working. then, You should talk with the store manager and try to get a discount like 20%, if not, then return it with no restocking fee.
I bought mine on Saturday for $349 and I asked the sales, she said that during the holiday weeks, there will NOT be a restocking fee as long as I return it with the orginial box, etc.
Ask for a discount or return it with full refund.
Same here, mine came in shrink wrap.
If you think you got taken, take it back.
However, if it works (big if... be sure about this one), and you like it... what the hey, try talking to the manager.
Thanks for the info and suggestions everyone. Im going to take it back in a few hours right after work. I honestly dont even want it for a discount price. I just want a brand new sealed one. I will post the status of my return once it has been accomplished.
Thanks again,
Scott
We have two G-Tabs; a brand-new one I got for full-price for my wife, and a "refurb" which was really just a returned G-Tab that I got for $279. The used G-Tab functionally is exactly the same with the same warranty, etc except the person who had it before me had flashed an early TnT onto it (and even returned it that way; I had access to all kinds of sites, etc that he forgot to wipe from cache/data. I obviously didn't take advantage of that and erased it completely).
My point is that if the cost doesn't matter to you, I'd exchange it for a new one. Otherwise, you can always get a nice case or some other accessories for it with money you'd get back by taking the "refurb" price. There is not a single difference between my machine and my wife's after nearly a month of use; you can't really tell the difference between the two (unless you know our wallpapers).

Good idea. Im gonna power it on right now and test it as much as possible to see if everything works. If its ok and I get the same warranty, I'll try and talk Sears down. If not, then its a new one. I'll be leaving work in 30 minutes and Sears is just down the road, so I should be reporting back about the swap by 5.
Thanks,
Scott
I wouldn't even bother investing time into it, immediate return for me.
Cat hair? Fingerprints? Not new, not what I paid for.
So Im at Sears now and I just returned the item. Funniest thing, the guy asked me what was wrong and I told him. So he said no problem we will exchange it. Then he punched some buttons and here comes a yellow "clearance" sticker that he just slaps on it for $279. Go figure.
Scott
If it has the power supply/charger and USB cable, I would buy it for $279. the manuals consist of some papers that point you to the WEB.
then when you get it home, go to the DEV page here and download clockwork mod and for me Cyanogenmod and make it sing.
Wow my day gets better and better. So I'm waiting for the new tab and they tell me they have 20 in stock but they can't find it. So they give me a full refund and send me to another store. I asked if I can buy the one I just returned and he said no. It's already processed to go to the warehouse. Again, go figure lol

Wait so they have a unit you returned, slapped a 249 sticker on it and they will not sell it to you?
I would talk to a manager, if that is the one you want. That is not customer service.
I didnt even bother. The guy seemed quite miserable too. Well I'm at another Sears location now and they handed me the item. Guess what, its shrink wrapped. Looks like I got a brand new one. Gonna get home and hack the mess out of this thing lol.
Thanks
Scott
Congrats, the main thing is that you are happy with the purchase.
This happens all the time, unfortunately. And not just at SEARS.
The only thing they screwed up on is not cleaning the darn thing before putting it back on the shelves. If you're going to break your own store rules, at least do it well.
As for a "refurb", the device I have now was a clearance / closeout item - had a lot of fingerprints and the previous owner rooted it. But, for $215 with tax I could live with a used item. On occasion the Outlet will have a GTab at $200 or less - most of the time it's $279.
Stories like these and others are the reasons I don't shop at Sears anymore. After I'd long since stopped shopping there, my wife bought a lawnmower from our local Sears. It had a gas leak. About 1/4 of the way through my lawn it ran out of gas and I learned it was leaking it all over my lawn.
The store insisted since I used it I couldn't return it. They said they would have to "fix it" for me. After the manager raised his voice to me I flipped the receipt over, read the line that states "if you are not completely satisfied at any time return the items for a full refund." I said "I'm not satisfied. Do I need to explain that to corporate?". He jerked the receipt out of my hands and started pounded the refund into the register without saying another word.
My previous experiences with Sears were similar. Same problem with Western Auto which at the time was owned by Sears. I finally got a hint and stopped shopping at there or any of their subsidiaries like K-Mart (which has another whole string of horror stories regarding misleading pricing I could discuss.)
My G tablet is on it's way from Staples right now. I think Santa may hang onto it though.
Link coming soon
Here is my unboxing video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnzIC0TwbH4

Wow...Sears has joined staples!

Sears has run out of tablets at the location near my house.
I asked when they wil get more and this was his response
"Due to high return rates, I dont think we will be receiving any more."
But we was not totaly sure.
So now what? I just snagged one off amazon incase they get pulled there too. I'm getting a bit mad.
EDIT: I went back there on my way home and spoke to the manager. He told me that the employee was mis-informed. And now I feel Like a jerk cuase I might have gotten that guy in trouble. Oh well.
Picked up one yesterday at Office Depot. They even matched the Sear's sale price of $379. Immediately loaded VEGAn - with the new ROM this device ROCKS!
Not true... Many stores in my area have them and the ones that dont have dates for restock - 15 - 25 days on average...
I just called CS (for the second time today) and SEARS / Office Depot have not pulled the device, at least not yet. And allegedly an update is still planned for tomorrow. Allegedly.
My local Staples has definitely pulled it, even the floor model. They are all being sent back.
Engadget has an article about this... I'd love to know what the defect is/was...
Though if i could guess its the fact that it says it has adobe flash support right on the box and as we all know thats not true.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/18/viewsonic-g-tablet-pulled-from-staples-stores-manufacturing-de/
I called my Staples as well - it sounds like it's firmware related (as I expected). Not the crappy UI as much as things like the boot loops and FC's. Yes, it happens on stock, too.
And keep in mind that, with stock, users don't have XDA or clockworkmod to help them. I can't see how VS Customer Service can fix those issues since there's no way to wipe user data or redo the SD partitions.
Hopefully not the nivida problem again. I got burned by it 2 years ago (my HP laptop)...

Maybe, VS should include a XDA developer link in the custumer support site or the gtablet package.
Engadget HATES the G Tablet
The Engadget guys are becoming [email protected]#$ing pu$$ies, I agree for a normal user this tablet will be a BIG disappointment - GREAT JOB VIEWSONIC for screwing up!, but for advance users this is a decent tablet. It is just embarrassing to see both Samsung and Viewsonic screw up like this by going early to market with bad design decisions (7 inch tablets SUCK!!)
I am eager to see what the "manufacturing defect" Staples has uncovered!
Well this really sucks. I was very worried this was going to happen, once these retailers dump the product, I'm afraid that VS will dump it too. Therefore, all of us that still have the tablet and actually like it will be left without any type of support or updates from VS.
I will assume we will be OK with the development that goes on here, but it would be nice to have VS supply us with stuff. I guess we can use the stuff from the Vega and Z-pad. Any thoughts on that aspect?

Well this really sucks. I was very worried this was going to happen, once these retailers dump the product, I'm afraid that VS will dump it too. Therefore, all of us that still have the tablet and actually like it will be left without any type of support or updates from VS.

I've ben concerned about this for weeks, now. Staples pulling it is bad enough, but if SEARS And Office Depot do the same then I will be very worried. And i think there's a possibility that it could happen. In 3 months, we could completely lose any support from VS.
But, as you said, zPad will hopefully be alive and well as well as the Vega. They have superior UI's and if they continue supporting it into 2.3 then we will be in pretty good shape. I would say that the possibility that VS will deploy a 2.3 firmware is low. But, again, maybe they will surprise me.
Ouch. Just saw this pop up on my newsfeed. As ViewSonic, what do you do now with all your early adopters? Do you offer to take back the units which were sold now that you are prematurely removing support and updates? Do you just write all those people off who bought your unit in November and are beyond their return window? Offer a trade-in allowance towards its successor?

**** outa luck
I don't know if you all remember, but the (Ipad) some problems when it came out also.
The difference seems to be the way that Apple vs. VS are reacting (dead silence for the latter), and how much leverage they have w/the resellers.
Just strange...

Had to leave a comment on that crunchgear article. I believe the author is an apple fanboy with his statement "the first of the garbage tablets"...
Personally, this is part of the reason I paid for one of those accidental warranty extensions. Sears said that within two years I just need to call in and they'll send me the purchase price of the tablet (minus the warranty). So in a couple years regardless of what VS does, I still can get my money back. Basically a $50 lease for two years...

Off topic:
LOL... Jeremy Clarkson is my hero. That poor excuse for Top Gear USA sucks hard!
Viewsonic would have already killed/delayed the device if one hand knew what the other was doing. We are a very small percent of the Gtablets that are either sitting in a warehouse or in Christmas wrapping right now. The REAL fun kicks in on the 26th
I already posted and communicated to Viewsonic how they can manage damage control and PERHAPS turn this around. If they do not, Viewsonic's NA sales and operations planning meeting in the next few months will be "bloody". Tap UI dev will be dead to the business world and so probably will the marketing product management "team" for this device- IF they do not take proactive steps.
That said, if they dump most of the liability to the OEM and their proxy, VS may minimize their loss and simply shut shop on the product. Catch here will be their credibility in the tablet market will be destroyed.

Glad I did the same. I have a way out if I need it. I think zPAD and VEGA will go on and that will be more than good enough for the life expectancy of this gadget anyway... Long live Roebeet...!

What the heck..price increase!

Just went to Sears and Officedepot...was going to run out and get one today and the price at both places went up to $399 !!
Whats up with that !
David
That has been pretty much the regular price since day 1. Now that the holidays are winding down, they are going back to their regular price.
Same here, I looked online all day yesterday and was finding them for 369.99 at Office Depot and 379.99 at Sears. Well Office Depot is right around the corner from me so I just went there and the price was back at 399.99. I had checked online earlier but did not check the price as all I was looking for was the phone number. Turns out they only had one in stock and the closest Sears did not have any, the only other closest place to have one was 3.5 hours away. I really did not mind paying the extra $20.00 as I really like this tablet. Right now I am downloading the 3389 update and hoping it improves performance a bit, although it is performing nicely compared to my slow ass g1.
Dang. Oh well I'll still get it. I forget, does this come with a microsd card? I am going up to Sears now.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Does not come with microsd. Just saw that fry's has 16gb for sale for $18 after rebate. I pulled my microsd from my phone when I first got my gtab.
Now that it works, people will pay $399. Let's see what the market will pay for a working Gtablet. Compared to Ipad or Galaxy Tab, it's still a bargain.
just saw that too, crap nuggets.... hunting down opened or returned tablet for a while now...

Well, not to be a fly in your kool aid, but technically we shouldn't really consider it a 'working Gtablet' just yet. It is a bargain FOR US compared to the iPad and the Galaxy Tab, but for non-tech folk, not so much I'd think.
TnT 3389 is nice and is indeed more usable than the previous OTA'd software but we here have still had to do considerably more in terms of getting it to a point of being comfortable with it. And even now, we're having these issues here and there (slowdown, etc). I know nothing is perfect in terms of tech.
What do you think would result from this scenario in a case where the buyer is a typical 'casual' user who just wants a device to load up apps on, read web pages, watch some video and listen to music and read their e-books on?
I think the casual user would get the Gtablet...not be able to use the market on it, not be interested in XDA or learning how to flash etc. Experience the slowdown eventually (it's bound to happen) and then return the tablet out of frustration.
The iPad imho is not worth the price in terms of it's guts, BUT in terms of the fact that it works out of the box, you have access to thousands of apps, web and media - if I were buying a tablet for my wife for example, I'd go with the wifi iPad. When the case is that you don't have to flash the device for any reason? THEN it will be a working Gtablet.
The Galaxy Tab is the middle ground....but it's also expensive for what you get and has performance issues.
I am not all debbie downer though, as I have very high hopes for TnT with an Android Honeycomb base next year, when Google Market is included at stock.
I just picked up my g tablet today from Sears. I walked in and saw the price on the dummy demo listed at 399. I asked a sales clerk about the price. He walked over to a glass case where they had a half dozen stacked up. The price on the front of the case said 379. I told him I'd take one and when he rang it up it came up as 399. He did an override and I got it for the lower price.
So far I'm pleased. I plan on rooting and flashing a different rom instead of hacking around with my Samsung fascinate.
One thing I can't stand is the stock keyboard. It sucks badly compared to my wife's ipad.
i got my g tablet from staples for 399 plus tax im still happy with my purchase. to bad are sears shut down a few months back. it was my only choice at the moment no online retailers were selling any cheaper so i just bit the bullet and bought it. im sure if you look around or wait a while the price will drop. theirs alot of tablets hitting the market now
Sears Outlet
Check Sears Outlet on a daily basis (especially in the morning) With all the non-tech people returning these, because they suck out of the box, you can get a steal for around $240...
I got mine at $149 - display model, with full warranty...
Paid 399.00 for mine at OfficeDepot week before xmas. Had a defective screen so had to take it back once they had some more in stock. Took it back and recieved $32 back cause it happen to be onsale at the time of exchange . So far I am happy with it. Biggest selling point was the flash capability, being a more advanced user and not being able to leave things stock lol flashing was just a normal thing for me. Had a screen calibration issue but thanks to another member that has been fixed. As far as I'm concerned it best bang for the buck.
Just to let you know - on office depot's website, it was showing as 369 - when I went to the store on Christmas eve to purchase one, the store display showed 399 - took it to the cashier, it rang up as 369. Also, Office Depot has a coupon floating around for $20 off over $100 good until the 31st, but I didn't find that til after my purchase. Good luck!

Frys Electronics - LG G2X no contract for $299

Hey guys,
I thought I'd share this with you,
Frys Electronics is selling an unlocked and no contract version of the G2X for $299 brand new.
I thought it was a good deal because locked/used they go for $200-250.
Their stores are located through out the bay area but you can order online as well I believe.
Source: http://www.frys.com/ads/page5 (on the bottom of the add)
EDIT: I just saw that in very small letters under the picture it says "Reconditioned" ... oh well
nice deal even if refurbished. Good posting.
Bear in mind if you are intending to use your phone in the complete darkness, with brightness on 100%, while drawing white and ivory lines on a black DRAW! screen, (like we all do so often), you might not want to get one of these. 3 guys who did just, put about 25 phones in the refurb bucket by themselves, so I guess kudos to them.
Fry's does have a 30 day policy, so you can pretty much wait 45 days and then launch a class action if you are not satisfied.

Thanks to those guys who put lots of phones in the refurb buckets. I got mine refurb and had it sent to me in Thailand. Got a great deal on what I consider to be a perfect phone. Yes, of course, it has minor screen bleed but I only notice it in a dark room with brightness turned up, which I never do, so it doesn't bother me in the slightest. It has never locked up and only rebooted once on a wall charger before I updated to GB. I only had it one day before updating to GB and it has been rock solid ever since.
I paid less than half what a new 2X sells for here in Thailand without all the LG bloatware and I am on official GB (rooted) now, instead of waiting for it like all the 2X people still are. I couldn't be happier with my G2X unless it could make me an espresso in the morning.
I bought one of the Fry's refurbs this weekend at my local store, and I'm using it right now. I have to say, it's much nicer than my Droid X. The phone looks brand new, and still had protective plastic on the USB port and on the metal trim on the back. There's a tiny bit of screen bleeding in the upper left-hand corner, but it doesn't really bother me. It came in a plain white box with all of the original T-Mobile documentation and the original LG charger and USB cable. I plan on dumping Verizon and using Simple Mobile, but I'm going to play around with this for awhile longer, first.

I think whoever is refurbing them for Fry's just adds the plastic wrap to make it look newer and prettier when you open the plain white box.
i dunno about paying $300 bucks for a refurb device....

I've purchased many refurb devices and every time they have been as good as new. Often times people buy them and return them in a few days and then it has to be refurbed, as it can no longer be sold as new. In some states if the item has been shipped and returned for non-delivery it is considered used and cannot be sold as new again. So the carriers sell them off cheap in pallets to be refurbed.
Two days ago I purchased the phone online-they changed the webpage now, but two days ago it said nothing about it being refurbished. So after driving an hour across town, they try to give me a refurbished one. Luckily, I had my receipt/screenprint as well as I guess a little luck on what manager I spoke with- long story short, they gave me the $299 price, and put the $264 balance ($519 no contract price) on some gift card.
The thing is, my receipt now shows this, I could make $264 if I returned it lol
