Question about GPS and Wifi - G Tablet General

I was wondering if anyone can help me on these two problems i have. The first has to do with Wifi. I am running the VEGAn ROM and I am trying to figure out how to change the settings so that the wifi never goes to sleep. I want it always connected so i can hear it get my emails and etc.
2nd question is, is there anyway to pair the tab to my OG droid and have it take advantage of its GPS?
any help would be awesome

anyone??? please !

I don't know about the wireless... As for using your "OG Droid", I'd say search the forum. I know details on getting this done (sharing GPS on Android phone with tablet) have already been posted.

I am not sure what the OG Droid is, but If you search the market, there is an app that can turn your phone GPS into a bluetooth GPS that will work with PC/Laptops. I think it may work with the tablet.

so from using this app it seems it only helps to find wifi hotspots but not actually fix the wifi... or am i missing something?

As for the wifi always on, there have been apps mentioned but none of them work for me.... the GPS thing, well you're gonna have to search for that, I know there are at least 2 threads here with instructions

I don't have access to the Market now, but I think the name contain "output" in it. Try to search for "bluetooth gps output".

Yes it keeps my GTab wifi alive even after screen is off. Actually, on the awake mode, it turns wifi alive and its on Tnt 2.2

It also finds the hotspots as an added feature I would guess. Importantly, it keeps the wifi alive upon awake from sleep.

wifi sleep policy
VegaN Beta 3 is going to take care of having the option to have wifi sleep policy set to never. Just read on rom thread as announced by gojimi

WiFi Tether for CM7

Anyone know where I can get a working WiFi Tether apk for CM7? The one I have from CM6 isn't working.
The stock tethering app works fine for me
Why wouldn't you use the built in hotspot? It works great.
You just need to use the built in hotspot, under wireless settings. You have the same features, can change the ssid, and password encrypt it. I'm using it right now.

use the built-in tether app. To make it really easy add it to a PowerControl widget (add widget to screen, select "Portable WiFi Hotspot" from the list of options).
If you don't want to use it, the other best one (in my experience) is called something like "Wireless Tether for Root Users"
Just use the built-in option under wireless settings...
Or check THIS page

I don't know if this has been mentioned but the stock hotspot iis pretty nasty. I suggest that
When I try and enable the built in Portable Hotspot it immediately deselects and says "Error." Any ideas?

This. Thanks for the help guys and putting up with a lame thread.
Not lame for asking a question. You could have posted this in the development section.
Sweet, looks like restarting helped, my 4G speeds still sucks though in this area, i restarted and threw 4G and tethering on and tested my speed on my ipod touch and got .32Mbps/.21Mpbs and my battery was draining 1% per minute, lol.
Running CM7-n#14
I love the built in tether, but is there a way to make a widget for it? I'm just lazy and don't like having to jump through menus haha.
Its built into the power control widget.

Will I get charged by Sprint when using the stock CM7 tether capabilities?

[Q] Pandora on the Wi-Fi only Xoom?

Pandora doesn't open properly on my Xoom. I get a window that says:
Sorry!
The application Pandora (process com.pandora.android) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Force close........................Report
I have performed both a soft reset and a factory reset and it didn't resolve the issue.
Any ideas?
Just to let you know, I have not had any problems using Pandora, I would check if you have some other media player conflict or possibly a streaming app conflict, another thing to check would be if it is just that your particular WIFI is blocking it for some reason. Try uninstalling media players, streaming applications, and browsers, reset and reinstall Pandora (after you have done the above), if that doesn't work try a different WIFI and see if it is a network issue, a lot of companies are blocking Pandora and any other streaming content. Check to see if it works on the browser and therefore just an app issue.
Edit: After looking more closely at your specific issue I expect that it is an app conflict, this is not definitive, it could still be a streaming conflict, but I would say you have some app that is conflicting with something Pandora is trying to do at startup. This could be a program that has a bad memory clearing function and is not letting go of some process.
Hope this helps.

I am not sure what the issue is but I don't suspect it is my server issue. I have a Droid X and have no problem with Pandora when connected to my same Wi-Fi router.
Very few people currently have the Wi-Fi only Xoom. Those with the 3G Xoom don't seem to have the problem even with data turned off.
I'm having the same issue on my new WiFi only Xoom.
I've tried to uninstall, restart and reinstall. But the problem remains.

This may be a glitch with the Wi-Fi only Xoom. The 3G version folks aren't having the problem with Pandora. I have also performed a factory reset and it didn't help.
I think other people with Wi-Fi only Xooms are reporting this issue.
I also can't get Gasbuddy to work on my Wi-Fi Xoom. The 3G folks say they can get Gasbuddy to work.
Same here with my wifes new wi-fi only, it does work on my 3G, also having issues with slacker, after I login it goes to a black screen

Also having issues with Slacker. Problem with being at the bleeding edge.
Has anyone contacted Pandora? Weird that the Verizon Xoom does not have a problem even if you didn't get a Verizon data plan.

I have contacted Pandora support. They have turned the issue over to their systems engineers.
wifi Xoom here as well having the same issue however I installed the apk of Pandora that came on my Nook Color and it works.
Better interface then the regular version as I assume this was made for tablets, however it doesn't rotate to landscape view its locked to portrait.

Worked great thanks!
So, I would like to know what changed between the 3G and Wi-Fi Xoom.
It may be that Pandora is intentionally breaking the software on the Android platform as they are loosing any assurance of limitation of consumption. i.e. 3G was SOME what of a limiter previously.
They have already 40 limit on the desktop version that does not apply to most if not all Android devices.

I think you may have misplaced your tinfoil hat.
It is probably just getting an unexpected value back from a function since no 3g radio is present and it wasn't designed for that. Who knows though, since nobody has posted a log of the error.

WIFI Tethering / Hotspot ?????

Has anyone got WIFI tethering / Hotspot to work on the Triumph?
Sent from my MOTWX435KT using XDA App
Do a google search.
its all over the place.
1. root the phone. (Gingerbreak 1.2, see forums here for other options)
2. download barnacle
3. start barnacle, disable wpa_supplant
4. set laptop to 1472 MTU or less.
Has anyone figured out how to do this with an iPad2? I can get the iPad to see the Triumph with Barnacle enabled, but still have the problem of only getting through to Google sites.
Thanks.
I'm getting the issue that some other have had where I can only access Google domains. Any workaround for this?
Thanks, I had tried this in the past but I could not get it to work. The part that I was missing was the "disable wpa_supplant". Now it is working...

Problems with GPS

Hey guys, i had a question, and forgive me mod's if there is already a thread for this. Let me know and i'll post in there. But i was wondering if anyone else was having this problem. My shift's gps is not working, nor has it since i got it about a month ago. I've tried everything from downloading gps toolbox, to trying to to update the gpsone tab in qpst. Now, when i go to enter in the server ip address in gps, and the other settings, i write them to the phone, try turning on gps toolbox, standing in one place for 5 or so mins, nothing, not one damn satelite. I go back into qpst, and all my settings in gpsone tab are gone. Wtf? Anyone having this same problem?

I figured out GPS for the most part. Please read my earlier post:

2) After spending lots of time on GPS I found that getting the first lock is the most important thing and then it just works.
As of this time my opinion on GPS is that I am still unsure as to whether or not fasterfix changes anything but wireless assistance is definitely needed to get a good first lock and is used by some apps in acquiring location.
If you don't get more than 2 satellites in GPS status and it takes a long time to get those 2 satellites GPS hasn't gotten it's proper first lock yet.
This has nothing to do with having the GPS getting a lock in sense. It seems the GPS needs to use wireless assistance first to get the lock (contact sprint servers or something) and then it works pretty well. Still experimenting to figure out how exactly the GPS works and what the optimal settings are for it.

So yeah, try fasterfix and set to north america NTP Server and then in GPS status hit the menu button -> tools -> reset AGPS data and then menu tools -> download gps assistance data

Haha no problem and good luck! Make sure you keep us updated! GPS has frustrated the heck out of me for the past month. That's the best I can come up with at this point. Need to have wireless assistance on and the first time you boot the phone on any rom you should be outside and get a good lock with a clear view of the sky. After that it's good to go.

No just go to GPS settings, turn on use wireless networks, use faster fix, then open maps and try and get your location while outside and with a clear view of the sky. The GPS icon will stop flashing in the status bar when it has a lock. It will stay in the status bar as a solid icon, meaning that it is locked.
Then run GPS status and see how many satellites you get. You should get at least 4-5+ (up to 9) when GPS is working properly.

No longer than 30 seconds if you have good reception.
Spoke with OP via IRC, he is flashed on Metro PCS. Seems like he isn't flashed properly and also doesn't have MMS working. If anyone has any Metro PCS knowledge please feel free to chime in.

You rang? lol.
Yes, I did at first when on stock. There's a setting, it is escaping me exactly where it is - but I believe it's in the 'advanced' wifi settings. Let me see if I can find the thread real quick.
This is a "feature" - basically the concept is, the phone tells you when you are near AP's to save $$$ on your cell data plan. Stupid.
Edit - there's also battery saving apps that could be doing this... just FYI, reading other forums they seem to indicate that rogue apps could be doing this - one user in particular mentioned some app called Snapdragon BatteryGuru...

I wonder if "Keep wifi on during sleep" was causing the issue.
Also, I do have that snapdragon app...but it hasn't gone through the 3 days of "learning" to actually be functional. If it doesn't stop happening from changing the setting on Keep wifi on during sleep to NEVER...then I for sure will uninstall the snapdragon app and see if that helps. The snapdragon app seems to only do what Greenify is already doing anyway. Hibernate apps.
Thanks for replying man! You are a great dev.

I'm just learning, but getting better at it for sure .
As for the issue at hand, I don't think that keep wifi on setting is the one I am thinking of...
Unfortunately I don't have a device to look at right now to tell you the exact setting, and I am having trouble finding the thread where this was discussed (I thought there was one at least)...
However, did you check the settings on that Snapdragon app? Make sure there's nothing configured there to enable wifi. Also, I'm not real familiar with all these battery saving apps - I would use caution, they might be like antivirus software on Windows - don't run more than one at a time, or else they will just butt heads.
