[Launcher] Stock Gingerbread - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I didn't see this posted anywhere so figured I would share. Modaco, has released the stock Gingerbread launcher modified for Android 2.2 in the market. Search Modaco and you should see it.
While it lacks the features of ADW and LPP, it's buttery smooth and very fast. The green actually looks pretty good as well IMO. Give it a shot, I think you'll be happily surprised.
Thanks Modaco for the app and Deliberation for the tip!

Works great, thanks for sharing.

I personally have found myself using Enom's custom launcher a lot more lately. Sometimes less is more and this thing is smooth as butter like you said! Thanks for the find and I think I will use this for a while and I was waiting for something like this to use on CM6.1 but couldn't port Enom's over.

It would be nicer if it had the 3d scroll like the stock nexus launcher

I agree however this was just a quick and dirty port. I'm sure within no time there will be custom launchers based on this that will incorporate many other features like 3d scroll.

Has anyone tried pushing the sdk launcher to see what would happen

The Gingerbread Launcher only has 5 screens by default. Any way to add 2 more screens for a total of 7?

Nexus S like menu?

I just flashed over to a new rom, and it is beautiful, but I really like that Nexus S menu with the fading on the top and bottom... and the way it goes up and down and not side to side. Is there any patch for this for the Evo?
Thanks,
nwa
I'm also interested in this.

I think what you are referring to is the app drawer, get adw ex in the market... it's simply awesome, or try the free version.
Launcher pro or adw are in my opinion the best two launchers/home replacements. They have a ton of customizations.
Edit: or just look for Gingerbread launcher in the market...
Or flash a gingerbread rom. Evervolv is awesome. Cm-7 is really nice also.

Personally, I would reccomend the CM7 mod. Evervolv gave me a lot of issues and force closes, along with no market access, and I manually had to install apps via downloading the apk file.

Launcher Reviews (What I think the best launcher for the G2x is)

I have used the 4 main launchers on my G2X and just wanted to share my findings. I ran each launcher for 24 hours and the fallowing are my opinions.
-ADW Ex was my favorite launcher and always has been. I love the wide selection of skins available for it along with the wide array of options the launcher has. Unfortunately it was the laggiest one on the G2X. I wouldn't really call it laggy but it was noticibly choppy and wasn't as smooth as the others. These findings were odd since it ran very smooth on my Vibrant and Nexus One. Maybe it will be fixed with a update?
UPDATE**** ADW just released a update. I contacted the DEV and he said as of last night ADW is now optimized for duel core CPUs and boy does it show. ADW just took the crown from LP in terms of speed and smoothness. Using ADW actually makes the entire device faster from browsing the web to opening apps. I don't get it but it does. ADW is the clear winner after releasing the latest update last night. Try it out and let me know what you think.
-Go Launcher Ex ran a little better than ADW but it was still choppy in some areas. This was my second favorite Launcher since it has nice features and ran very smooth on my previous devices. It's not unusable but I am very picky about my launchers running smooth. I will try it again after it gets updated.
-Zeam ran very smooth but unfortunately it doesn't have as many options and features as the other .available launchers. Those of you who are minimalist will love this launcher on the G2X since it ran super smooth. Those of you who are looking for more features should stay away.
-Launcher Pro used to be my least favorite launcher but not because it had things wrong with it but because it was the most popular. I like being a little different and don't always like doing what everyone else is doing. That being said, this launcher ran buttery smooth and hasn't lagged once since I have been using it. It has almost as many options and features as ADW and Go Launcher but let's be honest. I would rather have a smooth running launcher than a choppy one with a lot of features. Those of you who think ADW or Go Launcher is running smooth needs to try Launcher pro because you probably won't notice the choppiness until you have experienced the buttery smoothness of Launcher Pro. I don't know why LP runs more smooth than the others but the only thing I can think of is that it's optimized for duel core CPU's. Surprisingly Launcher Pro runs even smoother than the stock launcher.
LP here. You speak the truth, though I don't bother with other launchers.
LPPlus. The Widgets are amazing and the scrolling dockbar is a must.

I have tried them all and will never leave launcher pro plus.
It is always the smoothest and most stable for me.
Adw ex for me. I also liked the smoothness of launcher pro, but daily I would get more than 1 force close on it. Adw has always been solid, reliable, customizeable and themeable. It also was the first to have the transition animations. Tried go launcher which is also solid but adw trumps it.

Have tried adw ex and launcher pro. Decided to stick with launcher pro since it was so smooth on the eagleblood rom.

Been using adw ex but just tried lp and it is buttery smooth. Really digging the sliding dock..gonna stick with it for awhile..what's different in the paid version?

In my testing Zeam and LP were both the quickest but LP just felt smoother. Plus LP has a lot more features.

On the paid version you can resize and reposition widgets...don't know if any other difference is there.

Thanks for the replies. I also notice that lp doesn't use as much memory as adw...

I was enjoying adw, but the scrolling in the app tray was choppy. It was choppy in launcher pro too until I switched it to the 3d mode and then BAM! Butter. Launcher pro works the best for me too on this phone.

Just checked lpro and I agree with you now..its smooth.
Been using ADW EX since my last device (HD2) and haven't noticed any real lag...maybe a bit in the APP drawer. I do own LPP but never installed it on the G2X because of the registration hassle (yes, I am to lazy to re-request my registration number). Haven't used it in about six months, but it seems to be getting lot's of praise. Maybe I'll give it another go...
Nothing will overcome stock. smoothest and fastest

Eh...to each his own...
Thanks for this thread. I'm using LP on my Samsung Indulge now. I've been real happy with it. I'm glad to hear it works well on the G2X. Like Jefferynew23 says, the scrolling dockbar (with custom icons) is sweet! Everything I need can be put down there ready to run.
LP plus a Tad smoother IMO.

Launchers

I see a number of different launchers out on the market. Can anyone tell me which one works best on the skyrocket? Thanks

Adw has a really nice icecream sandwich theme too
Which one are you referring to? I know there is one that is made by "kovdev" that's for ADW but also works with Go Launcher.

I'm using Launcher Pro and i love it. Its clean and simple and the scrollable 5 icon dock is amazingly useful in eliminating screen clutter. I used launcher pro icons to download the ones i didnt have and now it looks slicker than ever. I'd used the free version on 2 older phones and now on the full version (only difference is being able to resize widgets and usse LP+ widgets, both which did not affect the user experience). Also great to be able to adjust animation performance and such.
I would say go launcher ex all the wayyyyyy
The touchwiz from the market is a really good imitation. Only stock touchwiz is supported by hardware acceleration, which makes it incredibly smooth.
I really like pure breeze. Having the kite anywhere on the phone is amazing. Somewhat simliar to wave launchers usefulness.

Development on adw and Launcher pro been dead for months. I use Go launcher looks and feel more stable.

Touchwiz is NOT smooth....
Why do people keep saying that? it stutters. It Jumps. The only REALLY SMOOTH launcher is launcher pro.
Guess it depends on how many widget and background apps you have running. Mine has always been silky smooth. No jumps or skips ever.
Edit: I'm on a ogsgsii. No lag here
But I agree that launcher pro is amazing.

[Q] Different UI for Nexus S ?

Hey Guyz
i would like to ask if there are other UI's for the Nexus S just like MIUI interface
Because the stock is pretty boring !
There are a lot of roms for NS, starting for CM7 based roms, MIUI, CM9 alpha, and well take a look on the developing section and test the one you want..
Wait a few weeks they're almost done with HTC Sense.
Yeah, and MIUI V4.

You're saying "UI"... do you mean "Launcher"? Because you don't need a custom rom to change the way the phone looks. There are lots of them on the market, just to name a few I've tested:
-ADWLauncher EX: smoother than regular ADWLauncher, highly customizable, worth the purchase (for me at least, runs great)
-LauncherPro: also very smooth, pretty customizable
-Go Launcher EX: can't say I loved it too much, but also nice looking.
Take your pick. Hope this is what you were searching for, a replacement LAUNCHER, not a replacement ROM.
I don't mean the launchers.
I mean different transitions, icons, statusbar, notification and etc like the full framework has been changed as you see in MIUI Rom
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
The MIUI ROM is still based off of Gingerbread and hides it really well. Though most of it is recognizable once you see past the themes and skins.
If you want a list of different ROMs, some of which sport their own framework visit the Nexus S ROM thread
here.
Also as flodb113 pointed out, essentially you are looking for a different launcher. ADWLauncher is a good place to start off if you're not looking to flash a new ROM.
The ADWLauncher contains themes which can change the whole appearance of the UI including: transitions, icons, statusbar, notifications and etc.
But isnt a UI called RoUI available?

If you are referring to this then it only allows you to customize the lockscreen. Which is similar to changing a launcher; no flashing required.

Miui is available for the NS and NS4G, just flash it.
Not sure why you chose the Nexus if you're looking for a flashy interface... The nexus was designed as a vehicle for the bare bones, no frills aosp android experience.

ICS style on ANY ROM

This may be old news for a lot of a people, but since I can't find any mention of it in the G2x Forums, then I figured there were probably still enough people who don't know about it to warrant a new thread.
If you're like me and got tired of the instabilities of ICS roms and switched to a GB one, but missed the look and feel of ICS, then here is your answer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636393
Holo Launcher works for 2.2 and above. I've been running it on top of HFP 2.2 for 3 days with no problems. It does a great job of giving you an ICS feel on your GB ROM and also features pinch previews and scrollable docks. I recommend using this with a rom that supports Theme Chooser to fully customize your device and really get that Sandwich feel (or whatever other feel you want )
thats pretty cool, gonna try this when i get home, thanks for posting this!
I've been using it for 2 days and it is nice and gives the same exact feel of stock launcher of 4.0.4 without the lag haha, I wish Widgets would work but it is only a beta ;-)

Widgets are working for me. Just not in the ICS style of pulling them from the app drawer, which is not a huge deal for me.

Only if it had lock screen gesture and delete/uninstall apps directly from the app drawer. The two things that won't let me go of the Golauncher.

My current rom supports lockscreen gestures (I use them frequently). And if you hold down on an app from the app drawer, drag it to the delete/trash icon, and hold it there, it turns into an uninstall icon. Note: this only works with downloaded apps and not system apps.***
Oh.. and I appreciate thanks, but if you try the launcher and like it, please show your support and thanks to dev in the original thread linked in the OP. Thanks!
Its Ok, doesn't compare to ADW with the ICS Sqrd paid theme is smooth silky Butter!
I tried this before, it's not bad but I'd rather use GO Launcher EX with an ICS theme. It's just way smoother for my phone.
The jelly bean update is nice.... People don't seem to like the search bar but I think it's cool
