Screen off and lock - Android Apps and Games

The lock screen widget allow me to switch off the screen for my N1 without touching the power button. However, it is a widget so I can't put it into the dock of my launcher and I also cannot customize its icon and label.
Hence, I decided to create a non widget version which do the same thing but you more freedom with it. It's FREE and if you don't mind spend a few bucks to support me and, you can also get the donate version which will kill itself completely from the process list.
Same as lock screen widget, it support Android 2.2 or above only. Please deactivate device admin before uninstall it.
Search "Screen Off and Lock" in market to get it!

It's always nice to be able to make what you need. Why not just press the power button?

Awesome, replaced "Lock Screen Widget" with this
Works on my N1.

Hi,
Just for curiosity...what is the widget you have on the top, indicating the time, date, and the battery charge status?
And congrats for the app!
Albert.

I am using Nexus One and its power button can be broken easily, so I created this simple tool to suit my need.

I can´t see the app in market, not by using the code or searching it. could you upload please?

Unlock screen by trackball (or volume button)

I was searching for utilities that can unlock the screen by buttons other than the power button (can't reach there all the time). Found a powerful one that does the job well (with many other options as well). Oddly, the app barely has any reviews in the Market -- maybe because the app names are in Chinese, but the app itself is English (at least for me -- it maybe just following your default language choice).
Search for "lockgo" in the market.
You will be presented with 4 apps. The main app is the one with a LOCK icon. Install that first.
After you installed the main app, install the green one with a right arrow -- that's the slide-to-unlock plugin.
That's it. The app activates itself automatically. The interface is in English. Just try to tap all the little icons on the lock screen to configure it. The options included are RSS (forget about this, seems buggy), weather (forget about this also, you'll know why when you try), calendar, SMS list, task killer(!!), app launcher, and YOUR OWN WIDGETS (so whatever widgets you have, you can add it as a separate page on the lockscreen). Most importantly (see the title of this thread), you can wake the screen up by the trackball or volume buttons.
I tried ICE before, but for some reason that one is not always responsive for me. This one is.
Great program in theory. It seems VERY unresponsive and buggy. I'll definitely keep an eye on it though and hope for improvements.

This one is always responsive for me. But hey, I agree it's still buggy - especially the RSS screen...
yeah.... still buggy... any other apps with same function? thx...
"Screen Mode Widget" allows this, however it doesn't go to lock screen when activated...just awakens the phone to what you were last doing. I use it when the phone is just gonna be laying on my desk at work and I don't want to keep pressing the power button to wake it up. The notification icon is a little buggy, as it doesn't always stay dormant even when set to be so. Otherwise, good app and I use the hell out of it.

[REQ] Notification Pull Down Power Buttons Ala Galaxy S

Hi I was watching a browser speed test video on androidcentral and they had a galaxy s phone and when they pulled down the notification bar at the top were a set of power buttons letting you turn on blue tooth, wifi or gps from any screen (really useful IMO)
So i ws wondering if this was part of touchwiz or an app or something we can port to the droid x. I find myself wantng to turn on wifi bt and gps alot in apps and ont want to go to the home screen to do it. i think this is so cool, anyone can elaborate?
thanks!
i believe it's part of touchwiz and it IS very handy. i don't use it all the time but it's a lot easier than finding the screen with the quick toggles.....if you're even using them.
Yea my friend has the one for T-mobile and i didnt' know it till i pulled down the notification bar, and I thought the same thing...sooo useful. I use my phone for navi a lot and it's annoying to go through screens to find the widget.
Quick Desk Beta
Check out the app Quick Desk Beta its essentially the same idea but instead of pulling your notification bar down you double press your home button and it pulls up a transparent screen that you can put any widgets on like wifi toggle or your music player. I used it all the time with my D1 when id be on a web page and forget to turn wifi on or want to listen to music while on the web but not want to go home and find the widgets then back to browser. I just got the DX and haven't tried it yet on it im still figuring out all these new moto blur things but i would think it should work with the DX. Hope that helps you out alittle

thanks i will check it out, but i do once in a while use the double tap of the home button for voice dial on my x, but that shouldnt b needed anymore once we get froyo and the new voice search app from google.
i still would like to have this in notification bar and wonder if it could be done as an app or as a theme mod or what. IF anyone has any ideas how this can be ported? maybe i can request a port in the DX android dev forum?
Yes a friend and my inlaws have the Galaxy and I would love to have something like this for the X.
Check out the app Quick Settings. Lets you put whatever settings in there you want. It's not as pretty, but really useful.

I would really love this too. I know the Galaxy S has it and certain ROMs have it but I'm not willing to root my DX quite yet.
i use quick settings as well, works really good.
Also you can download the app called Homesmack which can allow you to program the search hard button on the X to bring up the quick settings app. pretty convenient when i want to turn on wifi or bluetooth etc on the fly and saves space on home screens

[REQ] Lock Screen App

The power button on my N1 has been giving me fits, and given the number of people I've read about with "dead" power buttons, I think mine is going out so I'm trying to preserve it as long as possible.
I enabled trackball wake (using CM6) which takes care of 1/2 the equation, but I need a good lockscreen app (just something to make the phone go to sleep). I found one in the market called Lock Screen Enabler, but it's not a "true" lockscreen app and it's very buggy, causing all sorts of problems for me.
I've been a web developer for 8 years and recently got into Android development (which I hope to be doing full-time soon), so I thought I'd just code a quick app for personal use in 5 minutes.
The problem, however, is that the DEVICE_POWER permission is needed in order to call goToSleep() and from what I've read so far from other online posts, this permission is only granted to native system applications.
Since my phone is rooted, I even tried granting my application SU privileges, but that doesnt seem to work either.
So, my question boils down to how do I grant my application DEVICE_POWER permission? I figure if anyone out there knows the answer, it's going to be someone on XDA as this place is full of geniuses. Thanks in advance!!
UPDATE: I've attached the finished app. Made this for personal use but if anyone wants to use it they are welcome to. My only gripe about it right now is the "screen flicker" that happens when you launch it because it's trying to launch an app that immediately locks the screen and finishes itself. If I can figure out how to get the app to launch in a smaller window maybe I can minimize the size to reduce the screen flicker. But for now, this works and I can set it to launch when I click the clock on Fancy Widget, so I'm happy. Thanks again to everyone who offered answers to my questions. Just another reason why I love the Android development community!!

It seems that you'll need to add the application as a device administrator. There seems to be some decent information half way down this page under Device policy manager: Link.
I'd be interested in using this application as I can't change the icon of my previously mentioned widget.
Edit: More information here as well: Link.

I will probably still go ahead and create one. I like how with FancyWidget you can set it so clicking the clock will launch an app. Unfortunately it doesn't work with widgets, so I need an extra icon on my home screen just to lock it. I would be happy with any icon to be honest, I just don't like the lock screen widget one Good luck bud

Good call. Thx. However, I also came up with a work-around for ppl who are just as lazy as myself. There are 2 icons in the launcher. The first will lock the screen (once you enable the app as a device admin). The second will disable the app as a device admin, allowing you to uninstall at your will.
I really intended for this app to be for personal use, but if anyone wants it I'll put it up here for you to download. If you'd rather I remove the second launcher icon and just let you to disable it through Security settings, I will also do this (as really, I don't plan on uninstalling any time soon so this is fine for myself).
Thanks to everyone who helped out!!!

Great, works perfect on MIUI 0.9.30
Does the job perfectly! I especially like how it runs as an app so I can change the icon
You're a lifesaver, or should I say power button saver
Thanks so much.
I tried to develop something similar before but got stuck. Saved me some time!
Thanks for creating such useful app for my N1. My power bt is fine, but I would like to preserve it to powering up/down the phone.
BTW, I also downloaded Lock Screen Widget to test it out. Is it possible that you can make your app to shut off the screen smoother, like LSW? I like it you set it up as an app, which is super useful for me set up as a gesture swipe on my LauncherPro dock icons.
Thanks again and keep up your good work!
Thanks again, your app is really great. But could you add a option to map it to the search button (long press) please?
Thank you!

Anyways, awesome job, I know there's a lot of people who has been waiting to something like this :good:
try to make the UI more holo-like.. to blend in.
add a little blue/grey. but not too much background transparency.
Thanks for the feedback:
1. Notifications clear - I'm planning to implement full notifications clear when screen is unlocked, any thoughts on this?
2. Holo look - I'll raise opacity to 75% (currently it's 50%), I think this will make the gray and blue colors more noticeable.
Love it so much!
I hope it has a option that do not turn on the screen when a new notification arrives.
Thanks!

how about creating an option to let the users decide the background opacity?
default is the original JB grey..
edit: can you also implement -> slide to remove (individual remove per app notifications)?
also i noticed your permissions are "prevent phone from sleeping"
why is it that way? means our phone wont go into deep sleep right? :S

" Slide to dismiss" is impossible to implement on lock screen widgets (or any widgets at all). Must have buttons.
The permission is needed to turn the screen on when notification arrives. The phone will act normally and will go to deep sleep if needed.
This looks very promising, especially with a Holo theme
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
This would look great with a few design changes, i.e. a more holo/4.2 look.
I hope there will be settings available to control things like opacity, which apps/notifications to show, privacy options, etc.
I wish you all the best and look forward to using your invention

Looking for such application which locks my app invisible.Beautiful app fantastic.
Some request,
1.Option for Blank notification with no app icon in status bar.
2.It would be great if On screen volume keys resemble like knock code like lock screen?

1. Will include in next build .
2. It resembles knock code but only with 2 keys, which easier than knock code.

Android 5 support with material ui is available in xda attachment. install and give feedback.
Great concept
Well done on using the volume buttons for this purpose and to make a dummy note taking app pop up. It does makes the locker invincible!. :good:

Yes it was a test build, It is irritating when i see K-Note always while testing so i made it that way, it will be changed in final build.
New update
Support version 5.0 now
Download from Play store
Awesome idea... I tried this app out though on Chase and Google Wallet, but I did not have to enter my password (Vol Up, down, up, up) it went straight into both apps and I am sure I had both apps locked :/
