[Q] HTC Sync Reinstall error 1152 - General Questions and Answers

I unistalled HTC sync and when I try to reinstall I get the message "1152: Error extracting C:\Users\Dada\AppData\Local\Temp\{1B4A9E0 PC Suite.msi to the temporary location" (the #'s and characters after temp are always different)
Anyway I've tried:
1) Running the installer as administrator just in case.
2) Right clicking the install file and installing it using the 'troubleshoot compatibility' option. Same error code.
3) Searching for any remaining files using windows search for 'htc' yet no results.
4) Searched other threads and heard repairing the file or deleting it will fix the problem yet I can't find the above folder, specifically looking in the 'dada' folder for the 'appdata' folder, not there. Then searching using windows search for 'appdata' yet no results found
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and HTC sync 2.0.40. My user account "Dada" is set as the administrator. Using a rooted EVO4g with freshevo 3.4.0.1(not that my phone should matter). Rooted perfectly with this method, since been outdated but not when I rooted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765496
HTC sync and the root worked fine the first time, so I know its compatible with my computer. Something must have happened when I uninstalled it using uninstall programs under control panel.
Obvioulsy I'm not a computer programmer, can anyone figure this out. Thanks.

1152 HTC Error FIXED!!!
I encountered the exact same problem w/ my new HTC Aria when trying to install the HTCSync.exe file. I went to CNet and downloaded a free registry cleaner. Once downloaded, run a 'FULL SCAN' then click on the 'FIX ERRORS' tab for them to be repaired. Once they're repaired, goto HTC, then whichever support area depending on country and select your phone type and GO' ,to the right of the drop-down,. Next, open the 'DOWNLOADS' tab and enter your Serial number from your HTC phone and submit. Below your Serial number a 'DOWNLOAD' will be available. Click it, either open or save the file. Once downloaded, try again reloading the HTCSync.exe file snd it should resolve all your problems. G'day

All about the registry cleaner
Worked like a charm. Thanks.
What's frustrating is before I even posted the original question I tried using a registry cleaner and then reinstalling htc sync. I used C Cleaner. The registry cleaner you recommended was more in depth and obviously worked better.
Eusing free registry cleaner
download.cnet.com/.../3000-2094_4-10521691.html
Thanks again,
Kutt

I had the same problem, thanks
But if like me--doing the Eusing registry didn't help try to scan registry in "safe mode" and repair. Then, shut down and restart normally. Try to download HTC Sync
again(doesn't matter if you use the previous installation) and it should work. Cheers

Can't Uninstall

When I try to uninstall any software from my jamin (prophet) i get the following message: "this program was not completely removed. do u want to remove it from the list of installed programs."
And in fact the program is not removed at all and I have to delete the files manually, then go to the registry etc...
If i try to uninstall from activesync on the pc, the uninstall windows will simply shut, and uninstall would not proceed.
On the "first days" of my jamin this odd behavior never happened.
Any clue about this?
Thanks all
Have you moved things around? Manually changed program directories?
Usually there are 2 possible causes for the problem:
1) The program is running so the files are in use and cannot be deleted.
2) The files are located in a different directory then the one they were installed to, so uninstall can't find them.
You could try using MemMaid to get read of unused files and registry settings.

Thanks for ur reply. But it is not due to either of the 2 causes u mention...
Same happening to me and it's driving me crazy!
please someone help!
You're problems may not be from device side but from software side...
I also had this problem as a developer when i used releases for 2003 devices on 2005 devices (they work well no doubt about it but the message error ocures constantly). The main problem comes with softwares that have a customised setup.
Cheers,
Raul

Whenever I have had this a soft reset normally solves it.
In other words when you see the error message "not successfully uninstalled do you want to remove the files in the installed list" answer NO then soft reset and try again.
BTW if the program has a today plugin - this should be unchecked before doing the soft reset.
Matt
his has hapened to me also with my Qtek S200 WWE.
But if I soft reset my device and once it boot's up (after quite some time Evil or Very Mad ) I unistall whatever I need to uninstall, then it works just fine.
I have also noticed that by using "Freeup Ram" (part of SKTools) then I'm able to unistall without problems.
Best regards,
Rayan

Activesync error message

Since upgrading to AS 4.5, I can no longer install applications on my htc Touch.
The error message reads:
"Application Manager cannot intall this application on your mobile device due to an error in the setup file. Reinstall and try again"
Happens with all .exe files and I have re-installed AS4.5 several times and tried "Repair".
Don't think it's an issue with programs that weren't designed for WM6 because I can't install the Sprite and spbGPRS programs from the htcTouch CD
I'm running XP Home SP2 and log on with Administrator privilages
The files install OK on my work PC which runs XP2 Prof SP2 with no Administrator privilages.
Any ideas anybody?
Anybody else...
...having this problem?

Been there, done that
no answers anywhere I can see.
The Microsoft site only applies to specific programs, like the Media Player one you pointed to or Powerpoint.
Only thing I can find is possibly the .ini file doesn't have the correct version notation for instance it states version 1 instead of version 1.0
That still doesn't explain why they all install on the PC at work though.
Both PCs running AS4.5, both running Windows XP
i dont really thing activesycn is good at cleaning up after itself when reinstalled and or uninstalled
i've seen lots of files in it's dir
and lots of registrys it leave behind
a good cause would go and hunt them down and make sure
that a reinstall is really a reinstall

Samsung Kies 1.5/2.0 - w/Captivate

Kies is the software used to upload music, movies, and contacts for Samsung phones. Kies 1.5 has been around for a while, and version 2.0 was officially released on January 5th, 2011. Both versions support a wide variety of phones. If you've tried to use Kies and have been told that your phone is not supported, then you can follow the steps here to add support for your device. I've attached proof that these steps work.
Before we get into details here's the info on my device:
Model: SGH-I897
Firmware: Stock JH7
Rooted: NO
Modifications: None!
Launcher: TouchWiz (This is a must!)
OK, so now that we've gotten that out of the way here are the steps needed to get Kies to recognize your phone. These directions assume you have Microsoft Access installed and are familiar with how to use it. If you don't have Microsoft Access, you may download Open Office and then use these instructions.
Download and install Kies.
Version 1.5 with tethering is here.
Version 2.0 without tethering is here.
With your phone disconnected, open Kies and do one of the following:
For Kies 1.5 choose "Driver Recovery" from the Kies menu.
For Kies 2.0 choose "Install driver" from the "Tools" menu.
Connect your phone and choose Kies on your phone.
Windows should detect your phone and install the necessary drivers. If any of the drivers fail to install properly, simply disconnect your phone and reconnect it.
Once all drivers have been installed, Kies will attempt to connect to your phone. If it gets stuck while connecting then disconnect your phone, unmount and format the internal SD card on your phone, and then reconnect it.
Kies should now connect to your phone state that it's not supported.
Open the registry editor by running regedit from the Run option on the Windows Start menu. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Kies\DeviceDB\1 and make note of the ModelName for your phone and then close regedit.
Close Kies.
Copy the Kies model database, SamsungModelDB.dat to your desktop.
Under Windows XP it is typically located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Samsung\Kies.
For Windows Vista and Windows 7 it is usually in C:\ProgramData\Samsung\Kies.
Both of these directories are hidden. In order to view and browse for them you'll need to enable viewing of hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Open Microsoft Access and then open your copy of the model database.
In Microsoft Access do the following:
Look through the npssamsungmodeldb and find a model which closely matches that of your phone. For SGH-I897 users, the closest match is the GT-I9000M, based upon the international version of the phone SGH-T959D.
Add an entry to the npssamungmodeldb table for your phone using one of the following methods:
Directly enter the values for modelName, propName, and propVal using the empty row below all existing data.
For modelName enter the model of your phone that you obtained from the registry above.
For propName enter: base
For propVal enter the model that closely matches your phone.
Run the following query: Insert into npssamsungmodeldb(modelName, propName, propVal) Values(model, 'base', base)
When prompted for model, enter the model of your phone that you obtained from the registry. IE, SGH-I897
When prompted for base, enter the model that closely matches your phone. IE, GT-I9000M
Close Microsoft Access.
Replace the original version of the Kies model database with your modified version of it.
Open Kies 2.0 and then connect your phone to your computer. Kies should now recognize and support your phone.
If some features do not work, try using another pre-existing model in the database.
I originally tried the GT-I9000 for the SGH-I897 and found it to be incompatible.
Additional Notes
It is possible to use tethering with Kies 2.0, but you must manually configure a dial-up connection to do so. The information needed to do so is contained in the Network Provider database distributed with Kies 1.5. It is located in the same location as the model database and is again Microsoft Access database.
Change Log
1/21/2011
Added Kies 1.5 info and updated title.
Added Windows Vista and Windows 7 path information.
Made directions more generic to provide support for devices other than just the SGH-I897
Good job getting it to work... even though Kies sucks...
Well that looks like a ***** to work out and get going but good job finding out how to fix it.
If only I could do #5.
You could get a trial version of Access. Openoffice's database prog may work too.

Technically can't someone just host the file? I mean it's not a file that contains any unique or personal data right?
Sent from my SGH-I897
Tried it in the roaming part...it isnt working...under windows 7 there are 2 databases actually, one located in Users/(username)/AppData/Roaming/Samsung/Kies and the other in C/ProgramData/Samsung/Kies (Make sure you turn on hidden files in the Windows Explorer)
Also, in regards to that query...U mean to just add a new record to the database correct? Or is there another way of doing..maybe if you could explain more the query part...not all of us access savvy ;p
Correct, there are two databases. The one in your user's Application Data(AppData for Vista and Windows 7 users) is a copy of the one in the "All Users" (ProgramData) folder. From what I can tell, modifications to the one in your user's Application Data folder don't seem to have any effect on Kies. In theory, you should be able to delete the one in your user's Application Data folder, and Kies should automatically restore it using the one from the "All Users" folder.
In order to run the query in Access do the following:
Click on Queries in the Objects pane.
Double click "Create query in Design view" in the right window pane.
Close the Show Table window.
Right Click the Query1: Select Query window header and select SQL View.
Paste the query above into the window replacing everything else that's there.
Run the query by clicking the big red exclamation in the tool bar.
Close Access, but don't save the query.
If you don't have Microsoft Access, you can use OpenOffice to run the query by using this guide to set up access to the database: openoffice.org/FAQs/ms-access/ms-access.html
The query adds a single entry to the npssamsungmodeldb table which tells Kies that the SGH-I897 is nothing more than a re-branded GT-I9000M. The values for this query were obtained by looking at the entry for the SGH-T959D (The international version of the Captivate) in the same table.

SQLite plugin for firefox should do the trick as well
And if you can't figure out how to actually do the insert, you could manually populate those 3 columns. If you look at the i896 (Canada Captivate) entry, it is almost the same.
So far I can't get it to find my music, but if i can, it seems to have options to create and sync playlists... if they finally have this working then kies would be nice to have. I don't see a tether option anymore though.
Update!!
This method works with Kies 1.5 as well.
So a few questions here;
1) Country code for this version say GBR, i assume that's Great Britain? Does it matter for USA folks on the Captivate?
2) I had Kies multi-language v1.5.3.10113_29 (released 1/6/2011) installed yesterday and unstalled it due to the FsUsb64 / initiali failed errors constantly popping up (besides not recognizing the device), does this v2.0 rectify that issue?
3) Do you have to uninstall Kies mini as well?
1.) The country code doen't matter. The download link uses Great Britain as the country as Kies is not available for people in the USA.
2.) I don't know that Kies 2.0 rectifies that issue or not. I tested this procedure using Kies 1.5.10103_102 on Windows XP 32 bit. This version states that it is the latest version of Kies when I try to update it.
3.) You do not have to uninstall Kies mini. Kies 2.0 is an update to Kies 1.5 and will not install unless Kies 1.5 is uninstalled first.
I haven't seen tethering in Kies 2.0 yet, so I'm sticking with Kies 1.5 for now where tethering is needed.
And what about JI6?

It works only JH7 stock? And what about JI6?
i tried this, but keis just says connecting forever, but the phone says connected.
So i followed the OP's directions to a T, but SamsungModelDB.dat is located in one place only on the drive; C:/Program Data/Samsung/Kies. When i open it in Access it's a read only file, three files to be exact.
Any thought? Yes i enabled hidden files btw.

You're using Win7 or Vista and you are prohibited by UAC to edit the files in that location. You can either copy the file out and edit it or launch Access in Admin mode.

It didn't work for me with JI6.
Doesn't work for me. Copied out of the directory, made changes and saved back to same directory. Verified it's there but Kies never detects a device. I guess i'll just wait as usual until they release an "official" Kies for us captivate people.

HELP ??
The instructions you can find here are all pretty clear and they work.
I went according to this one:
1. Install WP7 sdk Windows Phone Developer Tools;
2. Install zune;
3. Make partneship with zune and phone;
4. Attach the ChevronWP7.cer(you found in the toolkit) to your email and send the email to your email itself (On PC);
5. Login to your email account (On Phone), Open the email, Select attachment and install the cert;
6. Connect your phone to pc and make sure zune is running in background;
7. Run the unlocker (ChevronWP7.exe) and click unlock button(Make sure your phone date is set correctly)
(you need to close skype and disable network adapter.. hamachi.. wireless.. Dropbox.. etc)
6. Install toms .xap installer;
7. Deploy Connection Setup.xap, Touch Xplorer.xap and XBMODDeployer.xap (Install it on the phone and run XBMODDeployer.xap);
8. Copy the .provxml from the ringtons folder to the windows folder (on the phone using touch explorer app);
9. Run connection setup to install the .provxml;1. Install WP7 sdk Windows Phone Developer Tools;
2. Install zune;
3. Make partneship with zune and phone;
4. Attach the ChevronWP7.cer(you found in the toolkit) to your email and send the email to your email itself (On PC);
5. Login to your email account (On Phone), Open the email, Select attachment and install the cert;
6. Connect your phone to pc and make sure zune is running in background;
7. Run the unlocker (ChevronWP7.exe) and click unlock button(Make sure your phone date is set correctly)
(you need to close skype and disable network adapter.. hamachi.. wireless.. Dropbox.. etc)
6. Install toms .xap installer;
7. Deploy Connection Setup.xap, Touch Xplorer.xap and XBMODDeployer.xap (Install it on the phone and run XBMODDeployer.xap);
8. Copy the .provxml from the ringtons folder to the windows folder (on the phone using touch explorer app);
9. Run connection setup to install the .provxml;
You are probably just missing a step
you must be doing something wrong ..cause as i just stated above all the tool and unlocker still works as it did 3 months ago...check some of tutorials in the forum...

hi , i connected my phone using wpconnect , im still having same problem
Check your hosts file.
If it contains following entry, Chevron will not work:
127.0.0.1 developerservices.windowsphone.com
I cant remember where I read this but it helped.After completing the above instructions,Open task manager(Ctrl ,Alt &del).Go to processes ,select zune launcher and click on end process.reboot pc ,connect phone , wait for it to sync wit zune ,if it doesnt ,run zune then run chevron and you are done.I did this for 3 phones and it worked.hope this helps.good luck.
another confirmation that the unlocker still works for me without any problems at all...i dont nor havent deleted any host files or changed any setting at all within the machine. I have had one or two problems with it not working, the first problem i ever had when i first started using the unlocker was the registry key not being edited correctly... and for the second time it didnt work, all i did was unplug device and let re sync...tick, tick BOOM unlocked!! Besides those couple times it has always worked for me...Bought a new machine today and installed tools, then zune software and created account " naming phone " and installed chevron, opened and unlocked....if you have sdk tools installed and have the unlocker installed, with zune software completely set up and phone communicating with zune, not as guest...and you will change the relationship from guest to " whatever you name your phone " during setup... haven a complete and main relationship with phone " not guest " is one of the most important parts with zune!!! The other most important part is making sure the registry is edited and should look like this...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone\ProxyPorts]
“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
the window phone developer tools will edit reg for you...i have learned that if you relock the phone it sometime can takes a little while for things to click and be able to unlock again!!
So there is nothing wrong with any of the tools or unlocker, so if your having problems tripple check your zune settings to accomplish a non guest relationship, and check your reg. edit.....most problems i have seen and heard about are ppl and their zune!

Error 0xFFFFFE70 While logging into Microsoft Account

Hi. I bought HTC One M8 for Windows mobile (T-Mobile US version) running WP 8.1 OS few days ago. Whenever I try to log into Microsoft account I get error code 0xFFFFFE70 saying 'We weren't able to activate your phone' with an advice to contact Microsoft support regarding error.
I have searched on-line for this error and have tried everything advised including correcting system date/time settings, soft/hard reset of phone, even reformatting the stock firmware with WDRT (Windows Device Recovery Tool) and also HTC custom tool. Nothing seems to resolve this error so far. Due to this I am unable to use windows store to download apps or log into my one drive on phone etc as each one of these requires Microsoft account login.
I was thinking maybe anyone can help me by providing me with latest windows 10 preview RUU for HTC M8 for windows (T-Mobile). If you installed it on your M8 via WDRT (Windows Device Recovery Tool) then you can copy it from C:\ProgramData\HTC\Packages\Products (default directory for WDRT). Maybe Windows 10 preview would solve my problem.

I have finally managed to resolve the issue via manually pushing update cabs (first 14203-14219 and then 14219-10586.11) via 'iutool' as described here.
In this case as I was unable to install and run Windows Insider app via MS Store or Sideload it (as it required MS account login) I went straight to pushing cabs via iutool without any prior modification via Windows Insider app as mentioned in thread and it worked. After that mobile got updated to 10585.164 build and now its working perfectly.
Hi Surgeon. I am having the same issue with the same variant of this phone. I'm pretty sure I get the jist of how to use the uitool, but I think I'm missing the step about using the Insider app to start the process as it's not installed on this phone. I have a few questions about how you did this:
1 - How did you sideload/install the Microsoft Insider app without being able to log into a Microsoft account?
2 - Coming from 8.10.14203.306, would I just install the 2 files ( 14203-14219 and then 14219-10586.11)?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

No need to install Insider app. Just run following commands (Modify depending on your system locations) via Command Prompt in Admin mode (Windows key + X > Command Prompt (Admin) )
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Phone Kits\8.1\Tools\bin\i386\
to check whether device connected or not
iutool -l
to transfer cabs (located in c:\cabs)
iutool -v -p c:\cabs
(Install cabs in 2 steps. First from 14203-14219 and let phone update complete. Then delete these cabs from c:\cabs and paste 14219-10586.11 cabs in c:\cabs and repeat same steps and let the phone update.)
Thanks a ton! I just got home from work and I'll try this in a bit.
Thanks for taking the time to reply!
I am able to transfer the files and the phone attempts to install, but then throws out an error saying it is unable to open the update.

When I downloaded the file from the link on the iutool page you referenced, it downloads as a .txt file. Does it matter if I'm sending that file as a .txt to the phone or does it have to be converted to a .cab?

Brother these text files contain download links for cab files. Open these links one by one or simply copy and download all together via free download manager (portable edition here)
Cab files downloaded from both text file links are about cumulatively 788mb (51 cab files of about 52.8 mb for 14203 to 14219 and then 47 cab files of about 735mb for 14219 to 10586.11 update.)
Thanks again for the help and clarification. I do though have another question about installing the .cabs. After the first 8 or so cabs I installed, the OS is updated to 14219.341. Am I able to skip the rest of the cabs in link 1 and start installing cabs from link 2? I ask because when I install the 13th cab from link 1, the phone reboots but instead of the white HTC Not For Resale screen, I get a black backlit screen and unable to even shut the phone down with the power button. I've had to reset it using RUU and start over from scratch.
Edit 5/7/2016: No need for reply. I was making this harder than it actually was. Once I stopped being dumb about it, I managed to get the phone fully updated and it's running perfectly now in Windows 10. Thanks for all your help in pointing me towards the solution.
