Is there a way with JavaScript to easily detect which mobile browser is being used? I would not normally ask this, but because we do not have the time or budget to implement any back end detection scripting it is our only option right now!
I don't think we will need to detect which version of the browser, or which revision of the phone is used - just need to target each family to deliver the proper video type.

Played with it a bit. The scrolling is not so hot.
When "pushing" the page around, you can either do horizontal or vertical - not both. That's somewhat annoying once you get used to Picsel (or Opera).
Also, the "Page down" feature of the scroll bar (tapping between the arrow to the thumb handle) does not work - it scrolls a single line only.
The only nice thing I have seen so far is that rendering is pretty darn fast when compared to my other 3 browsers..

I like the browser - it has now moved to my second favourite browser. Opera mobile 8.65 is still my favourite because:
- tabbed view of open windows makes moving between windows really easy
- use of the "grab" to move the page around with the stylus is a very natural navigation tool. I might get used to the Auto-scroll function at some stage, but at the moment I like using my stylus.
- context sensitive menu. I like to be able to open a link in a new window by holding down the stylus on a link and then having appropriate options. Also, being able to get out of full screen mode via the context menus would also be good.
But I still prefer yours to Picsel, PIE, Minimo, ....

Great to see it's, at last, updated further. The version I tested for my Smartphone Web Browing Bible ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323651 ) was still pretty buggy and, back then, it seemed the project was put on a hold.

Which language are you using now in ur PPC
I am using Czech localized WM6. But I have never seen message like this.. and every other english speaking application is running perfectly. So?
Pretty nice. Tried it for about 2 minutes and every page that has a login screen, after entering my user/pass it wont let me click the "Login" button. Tried it on 3 different web pages and the same result each time.

Maybe this app wil only work with English.
I made a greek translation of the program. The most have finnised, I will update the file when is ready.
Just unzip and put it in program's folder!
I thought I'd start what I hope become a regular event at xda-developers.com. Posting how valuable our devices are to us. Specifically, what our devices...in this case the Raphael....replaces or begins to replace with native or expanded functionality.
I'll start off with a not so exhaustive list of the obvious and give others a chance to share. What I propose is that we post the function and specify what software or setup allows for this function. You don't necissarily have to go into detail, for example, if you've setup your device to be a "router" on your home network because that would take a little time...but you can post something like "LAN Router = configuring device without additional software" or something like that. If you list VoIP Device you can say "Replaced my VoIP Device using Skype" or something similar.
I'm curious how much functionality we can squeeze out of these devices. This post will also serve to give others ideas, provide a place to share your ideas, and give new people an idea of how powerful these devices are.
Here we go...
- Replaced my GPS device and I use TomTom.
- Begins to replace my digital camera and cam corder. Even though it doesn't take very high resolution images and there is still room for growth it does a decent job and i no longer have to carry around those two devices. I use the native components and software of the device. If anyone has better software to accomplish this let us know.
- Replaces my voice recorder. I'm still trying to narrow down which software I like best for this so your suggestions are very welcome.
- Replaced my FM Radio but only when away from my car
- Replaced my portable XM Radio as I stream XM using PocketXM. This is an old software and i think there are newer and better ones out by now but i havne't taken the time to go look so your suggestions are welcome to enhance this experience.
- Replaces the newspaper. I subscribe to newsfeeds using Egress. I've tried a dozen or more Windows Mobile feed readers and imho this is by far the best and has all the features i want.
- Allows me to stay in touch via IM using BeeJive IM.
- Allows me to stay in touch via IRC using zsIRC. zsIRC is missing a few things and is not perfect but is the better freeware product taht comes close.
- Expands on e-mail by allowing me to stay in contact with Pocket Outlook.
- Replaces my wireless/wifi scanner using WiFiFoFum. There are other software products i've tried but this one does exactly what i need and also works in conjunction with GPS so I can later map my scans using Google Earth or other mapping software. I even use it in conjunction with other software to perform wireless audits for my work.
- Provides me with mobile Bluetooth scanning capabilities using Bluezard and btCrawler. Please provide your suggestions if you have other software that does a good job in this area.
- Begins to replace my MP3 player. My MP3 player has a lot more space but the Raphael does a good job as a temporary replacement for this device.
- Allows me to watch my TV/Cable at the house from anywhere using Slingbox's SlingPlayer and the Slingbox Pro.
- Replaces the Weather Channel using WeatherPanel on SecondToday.
- Begins to replace my gaming devices because you can play some nice Windows Mobile based games, not to mention you can also install several different emulators to play other device games on your Windows Mobile device.
- Enhanced the way I input business cards into my contacts by allowing me to take a picture of the business card using WorldCard Mobile.
- Enhances the way I store critical information by using eWallet.
- Replaces the dictionary as there are tons of superior dictionary software products on the market now. I use several so won't list them here unless asked. If you have a favorite please let us know.
- Replaces the encyclopedia using Brittanica Concise Encyclopiedia or Pocket Wiki. I know there are others out there and I welcome your suggestions on this as I'm looking for the most complete solution possible.
- Replaces the phone directory using Live Search, Google, or numerous other products.
- Provides for a portable packet sniffer beyond the laptop using Handy Sniffer.
- Begins to replace the eBook Reader for many but not those that can't read off the tiny screen. I'm still looking for a better and universal solution that will read all formats and allow for better viewing on the smaller screen.
My list could go on but i'm going to stop there and give others a chance to respond with their list and also help me with mine if they have better suggestions.
Let's see how much functionality we can squeeze from this little device.

Currently, I am working on a new project which will introduce a web application site for the Android ( You can check additional progress online, (Only viewable by your Google Android Phone) at http://sk8erandroid.hopto.org/Android/Android )[ My apologies if this is advertising, I do not mean to advertise in any form or fashion, just getting a bit of help]...
Anyway, back to the matter at hand.
The Android browser is pretty complex ( IMO [ In my opinion ] ), and I was wondering if there was a way to detect Portrait / Landscape mode.

It works, however, once thrown out of Landscape mode, and the function is called again, it doesn't seem to work.
I want the Web Apps Market to be only viewable in portrait mode ( due to some code configurations, and mainly due to some CSS style configs which aren't very compatible in Landscape mode ( mainly due to the fact where items and such are placed, and the scaling of the Android Web Browser ).
Anyway, sorry to make such a long post, but, thanks in advance.
Keep in mind that G1 won't be the only android-powered device, and probably the new ones won't have the same resolution as G1, so maybe it's a good idea to rework your web interface.
Anyway, as a user I would like the application to allow me to choose how to view it
Hmm, well, currently, just the Android G1 is supported.
I will add in support for other Devices after the G1 device layout is stable.
As for the view, that will also be added a bit later, but, as for now, my current CSS coding is configured to work only in portrait made under certain view points.
The view of the actual web applications is controlled by the creator of the Web Application, but, the actual Web Market's only support is Portrait mode.
I resolved the issue though, I was just being lazy, so I updated my code, and got it working.

i hope some one can give a hint for following problem:
I am working on a project that aims to extend the browser authentication in android.
Following use case can hopefully explain the task:
- User starts android browser and want to use "http://myservice.com"
- Myservice sends 401 Unathorized (with realm="myservice")
- (Normaly) A browser dialog asks user for his/her credentials
My vision is to change step 3. I want the native browser to call an app (f.e. myauthentication app) that gets (generate) the credentails for the user and sends them to the browser.
I found the method in the android browser sources that does display the authentication dialog. (BrowserActivity.java->showHttpAuthntication()).
I don't know how to call "myauthentication app" and get the result back to browser (dialog). My try via intent failed, because intent are asynchronously and as result i lose the browser focus. I am not sure if i am on the right way. Maybe it is better to implement the authentication in WebKit Framework. Or maybe use the android AccountManager.
I really hope some one can help me with some new ideas.

About my app I use socket to connect to the server, no RDP protool and its word good. I try it on different machines and networks (@IP) and work perfect.
My app is a last year project so any idea about how to control the cursor.
This probably should have been in the same thread, but anyhow...
It depends on how your protocol is designed. Currently, all the data is pushed from the PC to the phone. To control the cursor, your phone needs to push data to the PC, which means that the PC server app needs to check for data from the phone app.
Sensing a touch on the phone is easy. Sending those coordinates over the network is pretty easy as well; you figured out sending video so I assume you can handle this part. On the PC, you'll want to receive those coordinates and then multiply them back out to their equivalent positions at the PC's resolution. Then you need to move the mouse cursor. There are Windows APIs for doing this, but I've never messed with them. They might be exposed to .NET, but I'm guessing that you'll need to make a call into native code (this is pretty easy, though; look up P/Invoke). Clicking can be implemented by having the phone detect that you tapped the same spot where the cursor already is, and having it send a different message to the server.
The messages will need to be determined by you, as the designer of the protocol. I do recommend using different messages for "move the cursor to here" and "click where the cursor is now." As for when to send the message, that also depends on how you implemented the app. If the entire transmission of the screen frame is one long socket send/receive, you'll have to exchange cursor commands between frames. If you do multiple smaller chunks, you can check for a cursom command and update the position or click as appropriate. Another alternative is to create two socket connections, and have the second one be used for cusor commands. I don't recommend this, though - it's not needed, it takes more code, and although I feel that everybody *should* learn multi-threaded netcode development, I'm not sure it what you want to work on now.

Google should be your best helper - try to work with google first.
On WP7 app side you need to grab tap position, translate it to desktop coordinates and send data to the server. On the server side you may use Win32 API function SendInput() http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms646310(v=vs.85).aspx
SendInput can emulate mouse and keyboard events.
P.S. As for youtube video: try your project on the real device, using WiFi or 3G, and you will understand what RDP protocol was built for
