I was in the apple store the other day... - G Tablet General

...with my wife who has an iPhone and saw that they were using an interesting printer in their store. It was the HP printer that has the small tablet that comes with it for around $400. Set up right there in the middle of everything for store/customer use on one of their table displays among the apple products...guess they don't know that it is Android based!

Yeah, I seen one of those in Staples the night I bought my GTab.
Someone should point out to them that they bought Android equipment.

I'm sure Steve will fire someone for allowing that blasphemy to infect his walled garden.

Let's root that printer!!! Jk

I'd buy it and play around with it if it were a laser. I don't want to spend that kind of money on an inkjet.

There ya go.
Now to decide on if I'm doing this or going to a bar every weekend...
As of right now its only for galaxy tabs and Xoom.
makes no sense to me with the same innards but who knows these days
im 100% confident that as soon as it shows up on the galaxy and xoom' the developers will port it over with ease. They have done amazing things with the transformer
Make sure you look closer to the details. You have to have the sunday ticket package which for 1 complete season is 334.95 and then pay 49.95 on top of that to get the extra features. I like football but omg that overpriced.
http://support.directv.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1814
I did look at the details, that why i slimply said it was expensive instead of typing all of it out.
It s the same price direct tv people pay.
Im just going to use my friend account and shoot him 50 bucks for the sunday ticket to go option....woot!

My question is two fold. G2X owners using rooted devices still cannot access HBO go. So how would accessing Sunday Ticket be any different on our rooted devices? I can access HBO go without root, but cannot on my rooted phone.

I wish there was a way to use Sunday Ticket To Go on more than 1 mobile device... my friend got sunday ticket and i was going to pay him for to go but he wants to use it too. trying to find work around...
If you have NFL Sunday ticket already with Direct tv all you need to do is pay 10 buck more a months to get it for tablet, ps3 and phone.
I have all of them and I must say the tablet version is really good. I cant wait for the season to start this weekend! Also it contains all the stats and info on players while the game is going on...
I still don't get how the ps3 is gonna work. Cant I take this to someones house who doesn't have NFL Sunday ticket and and watch all the games? I mean this seems like a good deal for me, but not for DIRECTV.
5 payments of $60 no thanks!

[Q] Advice on cheap tablet for child

My 9-year-old daughter really wants a tablet, and I'm considering getting her one of the ultra cheap ones that's floating around, especially in this cyber-sale week. She doesn't have the best history of caring for her things, so I don't want to spend more than $100 on something she'll likely break sooner than I'd like to know. I recognize this means I'll end up with junk, but I'm trying to filter the junk.
My main concerns are having at least Android 2.1, and the ability to hopefully hack the genuine Market onto it, although I'll settle for the Amazon Appstore. Being able to do all the basic things without being horrific at it would also be very nice.
Does anyone have a specific model they could point to? I'm seeing some Velocity Microsos and Pandigitals on sale, along with some cheap no-names from sites like ahappydeal.com, but I'm trying to make an informed decision.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
.
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.

DealExtreme.com have a lot of Android items. Just be sure to read the reviews. They may be extremely cheap but there are limitations. I use the website to buy cheap gadgets as gifts for my friends lol. But yea, if you need a simple Android tablet with a certain spec give them a try.

Yeah, I already buy a lot of things from there, but was hoping I might find someone who has more direct experience with a specific model.
I'd run up to Walmart, Staples, Office Max, or Radio Shack and see what they have in regards to e-readers. Velocity Cruz Micro is one I believe is sub $100 one at my local Radio Shack. Find one that you like for the price and then see if your able to load the market, or better yet a custom rom.
When your looking in the less than $100 catagory, that's probably your best bet. They're at least made with some care for the consumer in mind, where as an elcheepo china model isn't.

I've not seen anything there in a price point below the Nook Color you're writing from. Certainly no sub-$100 Android tablets. Or has their inventory changed recently?
Well Fry's, BestBuy or Office Max will probably be your best bet to get the feel. Read some reviews on NewEgg or something xD
Oh my bad sub $100. No go with retail stores. Definitely Ebay or DealExtreme. Hard to imagine local stores selling anything cheaper than that.

Fry's is a vague possibility, yes. The other two don't carry tablets that low-end, though. Not by a long shot.

Ah, thanks for the clarification!
Yes, I was looking at the Velocity Cruz units that were on sale on 1SaleADay today, but as I dug into reviews I wasn't liking what I saw. Some really odd limitations and compatibility issues that concerned me. Left me thinking they'd be no less of a frustration than the Chinese ones from the descriptions. Might not be accurate, but that's why I was hoping for people with some real-world experience who did some of the hacking themselves.
Well, I can't help you there, but I can tell you with these cheep units that your experience will almost be gauranteed to be a crapshoot. It might work for me, it might work for you, it might not. I'll dig around the net and see what I can find for you though. I'll report back in the morning, I gotta get some rest for the night.

Really appreciate the assistance. I've done some research of my own, too. I'd love to get her something really good, but I just know for a fact that if I do I'll get a call a week after Christmas that she left it out in the snow, or her dog chewed it up, or something. But I also don't want to get something that will frustrate her enough to CAUSE that.
Wasn't there a £30 7" tablet floating around eBay with a capacitive touch screen running 2.1 Eclair? I'm sure somebody mentioned it on these forums a while back and a few members bought one for family members, might be worth a look there.
Good luck finding one.
Well, most of what I'm finding is Chinese ones that break the hundred dollar mark after shipping and what not. The ones that stay below that either turn to vaporware or are ungodly aweful.

Ah I see, sorry I can't help you any more, I'm not really into tablets and stuff so whatever knowledge I have of the tablet market is very limited. Goodluck finding one, might be worth a look in a few second-hand shops and get a decent used one? My local CEX and Cash Generators etc sell HTC Flyers, Blackbery Playbook and iPads fairly cheap.

While I agree, which was my concern, if I go above that point it's both prohibitively expensive and a really stupid move on my part. I know her well enough to be shocked if this thing survives more than six months. If it does, then I can consider putting real money toward a good one for her. But this is basically a test run both of her responsibility and of how into it she really is.

First Rt pre-order

Samsung is first to offer Windows Rt
http://www.knowyourmobile.com/blog/1613638/windows_rt_samsung_ativ_tab_up_for_preorder.html
Sending from HTC Radar
That's a fair chunk more than I was hoping.
This in my opinion is MS's last chance to get a slice of the mobile market with their W8 Eco system.
With their partners charging that much, I don't hold up much hope.
I was in hopes, RT would be a touch lower in price. Seeing this amount does take some of my excitement away!!!!!
It has me on a rethink........
Maybe my best option is to snag a used W500 tablet and upgrade the O/S to Win8. Use the money I save to buy a pocket battery extender for use on long trips.

Those aren't going to sell at that price.
I saw they'll be asking $650 ($750 with keyboard without battery) for the Atom version.

holy crap you're so right!
I hope someone shoe horns Linux or Mac is onto these things, and directly after there is a fire sale ... then ill get one.
they really screwed themselves with pricing.
I'm seriously considering an Atom version right now since I don't think I'll need a Core CPU.
I haven't seen a Surface Atom version mentioned, but I hope they will exist since I think the form factor is pretty sweet.
The next few weeks should be pretty interesting, once reviews/prices/comparisons are released.

the two posts directly above mine that you quoted also were a little surprised at the price. after a little thought, it would be a very good idea to only sell these wp8/surface devices in the Microsoft stores: customers won't be able to see the 1/4 priced droid tablets or 2/3 prices I pads ( that everyone thinks is the second coming) and limit the leaching to other platforms.

ahhhh, ok, I see where you're going. no interest, sorry.
we'll see fairly soon how consumers feel about the pricing. the hardware is g r e a t, so I doubt that will be any reason for poor sales. pricing is sooooo cut throat in tab markets.

Sorry Microsoft....after the scumy move you pulled, I'll pass on surface and go Asus

US Start Price $499........$519 in Canada????? Why , when both Apple and Google can have standard price.
Then you move our launch to Nov.4/12???? Again why, when Apple and Google can also have standard launch.
So after this...I'll pass and take my money else where.

You can blame your government not MS for this! They charged the high tax rates to import and they held the devices at customs. Yes MS should not of been in a situation that customs would hold things up but that's not to say this sort of thing does not happen with Google or Apple. Plus if you arguing about the price then saying Apple is better take a reality check there. I agree to a point about price it is over priced all round but then I think your paying for quality hardware (even though reviews have been down on RT itself).
Also USD and CAD though almost the same are not the same currency.
lol, its a bit ironic that one of your point is the launch date, and right below your post is an ad that says "Get ms surface on 10/26 at Toronto Eaton center"
The 519 is pretty lame though, unfortunately that's Canada for you. I believe when i bought the IPAD 3 when it first came out it as at that price point as well

That's actually a worse price, its not 'closer' at all.
$209 is a 5% increase over $199
$519 is only a 4% increase over $499
It seems closer, sure, but if you look at the absolute price of the items, its actually a lower markup

Yeah I rather sell my Nexus 5 and pocket the money from the difference .
I'm in a reasonable position where I bought a Nexus 5 outright back in November because my GS3 had been dropped one too many times and acts very flakily. It probably only stays on for 5 minutes at a time so I registered and was happy to see the GS3 on the accepted phone list.
It's just going to sit in a drawer anyway so if I get the chance to smash it and get a new phone for a dollar then I'll take it. I doubt I'll make the list though.
holy **** lol, i'm definitely down for this, as a person who regrettably bought the LG G2, I'm game for smashing it if I can get a new phone for $1 lol

Seeing as I'd only get around 250 for my nexus 5 if I went the eBay & craigslist route, I'd rather not go through the trouble and just smash it for the one+1. I hour I get picked. If not then I'll have to go the long route and maybe get the 64 gig one. Either way in getting this phone! Lol

Well, it's a marketing gag, nothing more. They want to show that ppl are ready to smash flagships for their phone. There is no pride to be gained if everybody would smash their historic phones for it .
On the other hand, some of the qualifying models really bring more on swappa than the price of that 16GB OnePlus One. The whole campaign has a touch of decadence that I don't like...
I think I will just keep my HTC One M7 as a backup and add the OnePlus One 64GB to my collection.
