[q] froyo 2.2 sd card wont recognize new folders - General Questions and Answers

hello all!
so, i finally have my htc hd2 up and running on froyo 2.2, after a slight mishap with bricking..anywho..
i've been trying to add music and comics to my sd card. the folders copy with no problem, but when i go to select the folder, whether in the program or file explorer, they arent there!! anything else that was originally on my memory card is though.
so..i switch to windows mobile, and lo and behold, the folders i just added are there!!
has anyone else experienced this?
im not a tech genius or anything, so it may be that im doing something wrong thats so obvious..
please, PLEASE help!
is it so wrong to want to listen to awesome music and read my comics =[

If you want a quick Answer, try the HD2 forum?

miniSD card showing strange letters..

Hi all..
I've been using a TwinMOS 2GB x66 cad for 2 months now, and rarely I had the problem of disappearing storage card, but a simple SR or inserting the card again solved the problem.
Since a couple of hours, the symptom has come back, but now nothing solves it I've done a dozen of SR and inserted the card several times, but still the same problem: some folders are empty, and others are written in strange letters. the card isn't actually disappearing at all, ilauncher still shows its correct size, but all folders are corrupted.
I have the feeling that all this happened after installing the free medical program EPOCRATES, since only this program's folder was viewable in the program files folder on the storage card, and all others simply disappeared. Of course uninstalling the software didn't help
Any idea guys???
Thanks in advance.
Did you try to install this cab. It's for the htc p3300 but it's work too for the htc p3600 ...
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=545&device=htcp3600
Isn't it strange that this patch has been published by HTC only mentionning the pb on P3300 and not ont the P3600 ?
Are you sure applying it on a P3600 is safe ?
Yes, i am...I apply it to mine and it's work fine... I didn't have some problems with my mini-sd card but with my sim+ (128 Mo) and now it's more stable !!
And as you can see the link i put is for the htc p3600.
This cab works also with the htc :
- S310
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=545&device=htcs310
- S710
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=545&device=htcs710
This has been posted before in various threads, but just to repeat:
The cab mentioned is for the Artemis/P3300. It installs one file to \windows: omap850_sdhc.dll, which is the SD driver for a device with a TI OMAP 850 processor.
It will have no effect, positive or negative, to install it on a device with a Samsung processor, except wasting 42K of space.
So why the support of HTC in this differents links (3600, s310, s710) refers to it ?? And it's fact that my sim+ is more stable now !! Not to bother you ... just to understand !!

Actually they don't really. This has also been explained before in other posts, but here goes again:
If you go to www.europe.htc.com and navigate to support for P3300, you can find faq 545, which relates to the 'P3300 SD card enhancement', and when you've found that one, the URL in the address will be: www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=545
If you now go and add e.g. '&device=htcp3600' to the end of the URL and press enter, then you will get the same faq, but it will look like it's from the P3600 support, which is not really true; it's just a 'less fortunate' behaviour by the web site.
Faq 545, 'P3300 SD card enhancement', really belongs to the P3300 support area, and nowhere else.

I'm sure it's correct when you say so, but if it's caused by putting omap850_sdhc.dll in your \windows directory, then it's nothing short of a miracle.
Okay...thanks !

Thanks guys for the replies, but I guess we went a little bit off-topic.
I understand that the patch mentioned above won't work. Is there any other solution to this issue, apart from formatting it again??
unfortunately, I forgot to move my SPB Backup file from the miniSD to my PC, so I lost even that file my bad
I would like to mention again how it happened: most presumably after installing the program EPOCRATES. Can this help??
Thanks again
You are far from being the first to have a problem like this with a SD card on a Trinity, and I'm afraid there is no easy cure.
Did you try and put the card in a card reader and see if it looked OK here?
If you can read it with a card reader, then make a backup (copy) to your PC, reformat it and restore the copy before putting it back in the Trinity, and see how it looks now.

I tried that, but same strange characters are also shown on my PC using the SD adapter. there is even a 4GB eek file in the root directory of the card. everything so strange.
Guess that you will have to do a reformat if possible.
If there is something on the card that you really want to salvage before you do the reformat, then you could try to do this with a file recovery utility.

Actually the Spb backup file would be really helpful Do u recommend any program for trying to recover it??
Thanks
I'm using an old release of WinHex myself.
WinHex is not free, but a trial can be downloaded from here: http://winhex.com/winhex/index-m.html
I'm not sure what limitations there might be in the unlicensed version, but I would recommend giving it a try before looking elsewhere.
I don't have any recent experience with other recovery utilities, but there are a number of them to be found here: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=recovery&tag=srch
Great, after trying to recover files with Winhex (unsuccessfully), The device doesn't recognize the card anymore, and now it requires a format I give up.
Is there anything I should make to prevent future problems like this??
First of all, should I format it as FAT16 or FAT32?
should I format it on the device or using a card reader?
should I use a specific program for formatting or the default windows application?
Thanks again

Try this - found from the Artemis forum.
It's a preventive measures - not one that can save your already messed up SD.

If you are still looking for a recovery solution, a friend had a similar incident with the 2GB Toshiba SD card on his 818 Pro just last week, and, not counting MP3s stored on the card (which he can restore from his CD library), I managed to recover for him some 90% of the files intact using Ontrack's EasyRecovery Professional.

APPS2SD For Beginners

Hello everyone. I am branching over to XDA from Androidforums in need of more guidance.
First, let me say I HAVE searched for instruction to my post, I HAVE NOT been successful with any of my reading. I just closed three separate windows of firefox with a total of near 75 tabs, all related to apps2sd, but none giving the specific instruction I need.
If in reading this you can think of another thread that has my answer, PLEASE post it for me. -much appreciated
If not, please read and help if possible. (I am listing my set up in case it is user specific)
CDMA Hero
Rooted
RA-Heroc v1.2.3 Recovery
Fresh 1.0 Rom
My goal is to initialize and complete the process of setting up apps2sd system today.
I would like to sucessfully have this running and I cannot find any specific guide on "how to". I have however found MANY that speak about it after the fact.
So, please someone tell me what I need to do to set this up. I want apps off device and to have a "swap space (???)" set up.
Can I do this now (after having flashed custom rom) or do I need to start all over, beginning with apps2sd process first and then flashing Rom.
Detailed instructions much appreciated, or a link to appropriate thread.
THANKS!! Rep points for you!!
You just need to partition your SD card as ext2+FAT+swap and reboot. That's all.
This will erase your SD card, so be sure you copy everything off first.
Please edit the title of this thread and take out the [ROM] prefix. This is not a ROM and the title is misleading.
Thanks.
EDIT: Does FreshROM 1.0 have apps2sd? I thought it only supported it if you had it on there previously.
EDIT: Never mind, I just saw this in the FreshROM apps2sd rant post - "Now with all of THAT said -- this rom officially has and supports Apps2SD. "

Are you serious, it's that simple?!!! argggh.
Okay, but with a bit more detail... I am rebooting into recovery mode and then doing this? Can you explain with just a tad more detail? thanks!
Haha there is no more detail. Just format your SD card with that option. WAM BAM DONE
I swear I'm not a cop! I just made the same mistake once.
I tried looking for apps2sd info a while back and ran into your same dilemma. I ended up using Modaco's ROM (actually, I used the UNOFFICIAL updated modaco made by obelisk79) because it already had it on there.

Right in the recovery options there's one that says something like "Format SD card: Ext2+FAT+swap" or something like that. Choose that, then reboot.
I thought Fresh 1.0 had AppsToSD built-in. If it doesn't, this won't actually accomplish anything.

Yeah I found somewhere that it would obviously erase the card data. I am really trying to figure out if the apps2sd is the same as "swap" since I keep finding bad things about swapping.
Are you using apps2sd?

No, it's not the same as using swap. It works fine, don't worry about it.
AppsToSD works best with a Class 6 card, since the class 6 cards are faster.

Yes, I'm using it. I have read flipzmode's rant about why he doesn't like Apps2SD. I have had no problems with it.
When I ran it with the modaco/obelisk79 ROM it seemed to keep the phone relatively speedy, even with a ton of apps installed. I am using FreshROM 1.0 now and I ended up uninstalling a few apps because of lag.
EDIT: I am not inferring that FreshROM is any slower. I think the problem is on my end! BTW, I am using a 16G class 6 card.

Unfortunately I think mine is not a class 6, it's just an 8gig standard micro sd. (PNY brand).
Anyway, so i went in recov. mode and formatted to the ext/fat/swap partition. I reloaded my card with previous data. Is that all I need to do? is there no setting I need to monitor or adjust?
and also, will my current apps get pushed to the sd or is there a process I should follow to move them to the sd?
I just did this and it pushed my apps from what I can tell. My internal storage number went from around 90mb used to 52mb. Now my real question is if I wanted to undo this.. what kind of options/headache am I looking at ?

Current apps should get pushed to the SD. To make sure it's working, pull up an adb shell and do:
cd /data/app
pwd
You should see "/system/sd/app" spit back at you.

Well yeah you would certainly have to reformat. But in addition to that you would need to re-install your apps, since they would have been removed from the card.
I was reading somewhere that you can change a setting to zero which causes the hero to pull the apps back to internal storage, leaving you not needing to re-install. cAn't remember where setting is or where i found it...

Flashing via SD card -USED- to work.. now it doesn't anyone know why?

Ok so I went on a trip to Red River and before going on the trip I flashed the most up to date NRG rom for the Raph VIA my Polaroid 16g MicroSDHC card without issues. I did happen to put a lot of movies I ripped from my own DVD's and some music from CD's I had lying around because I need media to get through long driving trips but when I got back from the trip and tried to update the Rom to the latest rom via SD card I am now getting No Image found just as if there was no RAPHIMG.nbh file in the root directory.
What I've tried:
Reformatting again to FAT32
Removing the card and putting it back in
Moving all the files off the card and just having the NBH file there
Making sure the NBH file's properties aren't read only or system or archive or whatever via properties in Total Commander
Defragging / scandisking / etc via Pocket Mechanic, even tried recovering what I thought may be bad sectors...
I have another card but it has never worked even with the above steps taken on that card so I'm thinking possibly somewhere along the line's I've corrupted my card. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I hate that I paid for this card knowing the only reason I really wanted the card was to be able to flash via SD card on the fly because my old 2g never allowed it no matter what I did.
Any pro tips on this one?
Try this...
Hate to make you install a program... but see if this helps you reformat the drive correctly, this has a FULL PARTITION program that will allow you to hit ALL the sectors... FDISK full if you will...
Here is the link:
http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/eula
This has worked for me before. Hope it works for you.
Still saying No Image Found but I appreciate the assistance xD
I think your hosed; not sure why, but that's just how it sounds. The only thing I'd suggest is doing a hard reset, if you haven't already.
Seen this before
I had a similar problem upgrading to the TAEL ROM.
First off, you need to go here and read: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008
Note: *FLASH HARDSPL BEFORE FLASHING ANY CUSTOM ROMS*
Then make sure your RAPHIMG.nbh file is named correctly, i've seen people change the name in the File Explorer on their device, and it looks like this "RAPHIMG.nbh.nbh"
Yea did all that Radar.
Farmer Ted I'm going to lean towards agreeing with you because this is the same behavior with my old 2g microSDHC card no matter what I did I couldn't flash with it.
Thanks for the help guys.

roms which are not made for your device will not completely work on it...since the kernel is different..and libs...so i recommend you to flash it again but with one rom made for your device...
ROM BIBLE (lots of roms there) try flashing one with a custom kernel
or flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933628
also you can try to restore to stock rom if those roms dont help

well your phone must mount your sd card while in recovery...so download the stock file and rename it how it should...then try to connect your phone to your pc with adb... it has to be thru debuging..enable it in settings/applications/development/usb debugging check the box...connect the phone to the pc....
it should detect it..maybe to transfer the file to the sdcard you should plug it in to an adapter or something to transfer the file...
then do the steps in adb and see if it works...it should

Loading...[ESPRDIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[EDPRDIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[ESPRIMG.zip]
Then it says...
Checking...[ESPRIMG.zip]
but, after all that it doesnt show me the update thing.. WHAT NOW?
....you should copy the zip file to the directory where it says in the tutorial..../data/local/ (everything has to be done in adb) i think but only then you can start doing the update
Okay so one more thing before i try this... what adb?

android debug bridge...it is used by developers....try to get the android sdk forr your OS and put the commands on the tutorial so the file gets copied over to your device and you can restore it to stock
adb is a program on your computer that can force files and apps to certain system folders and stuff that your phone wouldnt necessarily be able to do on its own.
I'm sure you wont make this mistake again haha
like the guy said above, just put that file to the root of your sd card. not the external sd card but the internal sd card. when you connect your phone to your computer and it pulls up a bunch of folders like DCIM, media, etc.
put the file in that folder right there. thats the root of your internal sd card.
then do the steps with adb again.
we've all made mistakes and have had issues where we need to do these things to reset it to stock. next time I highly recommend researching how to bring your phone back from messing it up before deciding to flash roms and stuff. all the tools are on here, just search for them. dont worry, you'll get it!
hope this helps. I have a Vibrant so mine might be a little different than yours but just do what the tutorial says and you should be all good

[Q] Htc HD2

A video explaining how to correct everything & also install rafdroid will be really helpful. So please if you make a video I would really appreciate it. Please help me!
