"wait please..." - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cant beleave that we need to "wait please..." when we execute an app..with such strong config 1 GHZ...i just find it too slow...is there a solution to that in the next update of wm7 ? or should i go back to my android super fast phone...??

or you could just go away, troll. If you really had a Windows Phone 7 you'd call it Windows Phone 7 and not wm7.

How to: Disable Carrier Logo/BT Today Plugin

Before someone asks (suprised no one has already!), here's how to disable the Carrier information/BT plugin or rather the very top line on the WM Treos.
Now, before I share this I have to warn you at this point it is NOT worth it to do this trick as it disables a lot of the phone functions that Palm put on the device (at least on the 700wx it did, I'm assuming for the 750v as well).
If anyone can take this info and go further with it, that'd be great as I hear this as the #1 hack request from users.
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Dial Lookup"
Enabled = 0 (for off; 1 is for on)

I cannot dail numbers or find contacts from today screen any more if changed this, and the dialed phone list would not be actived when press green button.
There is another way which might work both to retain the facilty but hide the plugin. But can't test it without a Treo

Bah! don't say that! This is probably the most request hack out there!
If there is a way I can test for you by proxy (I just did it with Bruce/pocketmax for a Treo Keylight utility to turn off the kb lights)...
I need someone who's fairly comfortable with Visual Studio 2005 (or EVC) and a Treo. If so, get in touch.

Whats Visual Studio 2005? (j/k)
lol, guess I'm out. I'll try to recruit someone who has *both* those qualifications ;-)
I have both, however I'm not a windows programmer and not that comfortable with VS yet. If nobody else volunteers I'll give it a shot.
Hannip will do. I'll be in touch.

geez vijay, I have a lot of posting to do to catch up to your 3,979 posts!
hehe
Not that many lol. I'm still way behind Rudegar!
V
hannip and vijay,
You do realize if that you pull this off you *will* be gods in the Treo community...
No pressure!
i'm a .net 2.0 cf dev, and I have vs 2005.
pm me if you're still looking for volunteers.
i sorta figured it out i made it hide the logo but now theres a big empty space i haven't tested it on 700wx yet but i got it to work with the 700w this is what i got so far
http://ppcgeeks.com/remove-logo-semi-figured-out-t1066.html
the problem i foresee so far is that whenever you reactivate the plugin or receive or make a call it resizes itself and also turns visible.
any ideas vijay?
ok i got rid of the blank space im gonna try something else to see if i can fix the reappearance of the logo.
noman2 - let me know how things go. I don't have a Treo, so it'll be a damn sight easier for you to write then me! But I have some ideas.

one thing that seems to be a problem is whenever its resized or hidden and the plug in gets reactivated.(for some reason this plug in is tied into so much) it automatically re shows and resizes itself.
one thing im thinking of trying is to make this program a background process and making it hide it whenever it notices it.
if you have a better idea please let me know =)
ok i made it check every 10 seconds i tried to make it use the least memory i could ill play with the timing tomorrow but for today im done.
i wont be available most of tomorrow so test it out and leave feed back
NOTE* only tested on 700w

noman - I have another idea based on a series of new hacks I've made. Which dll are you resizing (by name)?
Polling isn't the best way, but it at least works, so stick with that for now. You might want an event driven resident app though...

n00b question

hey before anyone starts flaming me for no search i wanted to apologise beforehand. I did search, this is all foreign to me. I have an mda, interested in the windows mobile 6 platform but theres a few questions i had.
1 being is the processor fast enough to handle the os or is it gonna be even laggier than it is now?
and 2 is there any step by step how to guide from begining to end (with photos preferably), just taking your plain ole out of the box mda and putting windows mobile 6 on it. all this kitchen and cooking and frying, tornados and crossbow code talk doesnt make sense to me. thanks so much for reading, I dont mean to be a newbie about all this stuff, I just want someone who knows what theyre doing to tell me what its all about.
Welcome to the wonderful world of MDA flashing! Ok so you want to take your MDA and load WM6 on it. That is what we reffer to as "flashing, " so anytime you hear someone talk about flashing their device to "Core," "Pandora" or "Crossbow" they mean they are changing the operating system to that paticular "version" of WM6. They are all based off (more or less) the same WM6 ROM but just tweaked with some useful apps, and registry changes. Read about them in the XDA-Wiki page. As far as learning how to flash, there's a "sticky" (a post that remains on the first page) entitled "Howto flash a Wizard... a little tutorial!" Just follow that word for word and you should be fine. It's easy if you just follow the instructions and don't try to jump ahead. Good luck!
follow these directions.. and you should have no problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613. WM6 seems to be a big upgrade.. so i suggest it.. then take a look and see which new ROM you want.. there are many.. if you want just basics you want a Vanilla ROM, i reccomend ANTC's WM6 Professional 3.0.. or if you want fully loaded try Pandora (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310530) or Faria (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762). give it a whirl.. and if you need help, don't hesitate to IM or PM me.

awesome thanks so much for your help guys. I have a g4 mda, and from what I know i dont have to CID unlock it. im just trying to figure all this out. I dont think its as easy as downloading the rom utility update and downloading the rom... theres a million different tutorials and I dont know which one is the most current or the best. keep the replys coming though i appreciate it.

The group does a pretty good job of updating the info as new stuff gets released. Like I said earlier, most of your basic questions will be answered in the XDA-WIKI
see my signature, that's how it should work, no need for CID unlocking
the only "issue" with an G4 is that you only can flash the OS itself.

IRM
cooool, so i got it flashed after trying a million times, but i finally found a version that works, I keep getting errors here and there. last time i flashed it was giving me a checkautorun.exe error. I just flashed farias rom, and when I was doing it with shelltool my mda displayed a few errors which i just pushed ok. also after flashing, i get a dos app thats cmd.exe that i just close and right after i close that, shelltool says its done. it wont say its done UNLESS i close cmd.exe. also having big problems with the contacts. every time i push the contacts button, it never opens. any suggestions?
just got an error that said unexpected error occured in shell attempting to restart.
Are you unlocking your phone first? It might be easier for you to do if you find an unlocking utility for a g4.. or pay the 40 bucks to IMEI-check.com
nope no unlocking. no more silly errors, the only thing i cant do is open my contacts, (or sync them) it just says a device by that name already exists on this maching and i have to rename or be guest. im gonna reflash and see if it helps any. now does anyone know if when using shelltool i need to go back to the original tmo rom and do all that hooplah or can i just flash it like it is now?
I dont understand why you can't open your contacts... do this.. check 'settings' in start menu under 'system' and see if there is a application called 'softkeys' if there is then click on it and see if there is a \contacts.lnk path under the 'Contact'
i dont see contact.
nope, looked in windows folder where all the other .ink files are, and contacts.ink is not there.
it's actually not directly in the windows folder it's in 'windows\appbuttons'
Sorry, I was assuming you looked directly in the 'windows' folder..
ok found it. doing a soft reset now to see if it works...
keep me posted.
well its still doing the same thing... i push the contacts, the start button displays contacts for a second, theres an x in the corner then it just goes back to the normal screen.
hmn.. thats weird.. what happens when you go to 'contacts' from your start menu?
same. well see. I really like the wm6 os. Ive never flashed anything or messed with any phone, so this is all very new to me. I wish there was someone else that flashed a g4 without unlocking it first... grrr. heres something funny, sometimes when I restart it shows the GSM version other times its blank... I dont really care if I brick this phone, last week it was acting up and tmo is sending me a replacement. this was back before i was starting to mess with it, so i got a replacement on the way. lets hope its a g3
Mine does the same thing, sometimes it shows GSM sometimes it doesnt.. Thats pretty common. Yeah I paid to unlock mine, so I have no idea when it comes to a locked device.,

Bing compatibility

Hi -- I just downloaded the new version of Bing. I'm running it on an HTC Sedna with Windows Mobile 6.1. It _seems_ to work fine on my phone. Fine except for the fact that within a minute or two I get a message which says "Your device has been identified as not supported for this application," after which Bing shuts down. Any ideas on how to get around this? This software is supposed to work with WM 6.1 phones and it seems to do so until Microsoft pulls the plug!
Thanks, Alan
Are you using a cooked ROM?
I suggest you to install it on a emulator and see what happens
Thanks -- no, I'm using the standard HTC ROM. (I don't even think there ARE any cooked ROMS for this phone!)
I've never dealt with an emulator, so I don't immediately know how to do what you're suggesting, nor do I have a sense of how time consuming that would be. But would it be worthwhile to go down that road? If Bing worked on the emulator, how would that help me figure out how to make it work on my phone?
I wonder if there's a way to tell Bing that I've got a different kind of phone. I suspect that would fix this. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks!
Alan
Ok, but you can share where you got the installation file(just to do a test here).
Thanks.
Yes -- I got it from here:
http://static.appserver.m.bing.net/binaries/winmo/v1/Bing.CAB
I was running the previous version of Bing, and the program sent me to this link to get the updated version (which then gives me errors about my phone not being supported).
Thanks, Alan
Thanks very much, I'm going to test it.
Wait some time...
That's terrific! Thanks so much!

Bing...
Works OK on Diamond 1 with stock 6.1 ROM. Not sure if I like it or not..
Right -- I know it works on other WM 6.1 phones. I'm wondering how to run it on mine. I suspect the solution is to make Bing think I'm using a Diamond or some other phone it knows it's compatible with. Anyone know how to do this? What does it use to figure out what sort of phone I have?
Thanks, Alan
It's working on my emulator.
Have you already tried another version?
I don't really understand what you're asking ... I've run this program on two different (stock WM 6.1) HTC P6500s with the same result: it works fine a little while, then I get a message that I'm not using a supported device and the software shuts down. I don't know how running this on an emulator would help me fix the problem. I know that the software works fine on Diamonds, Touch Pro2, Diamond 2, and other officially-supported WM 6.1 phones. And I know that the software detects my P6500 as not supported and therefore will stop working after a while.
SO: the question is how to get Bing to believe I'm using a phone that it considers supported? I've tried replacing P6500 with T5353 (Touch Diamond 2) in a couple of places in the registry:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ActiveSync\DeviceModel
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform
But it doesn't seem to make a difference ....
Does anyone have any other ideas about how I might fix this?
Thanks,
Alan
I think that change these registrys:
Code:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ActiveSync\ DeviceModel
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform
Isn't a very good thing, because this can turn your device unstable.
PS: I'm going to Google for some solution.
I need one thing to solve your problem as fast as I can. It's the error code.
Thanks.
Thanks so much ... Yeah, I didn't leave those registry changes on long: just a quick experiment.
OK, forgive my ignorance, but how can I find out the error code to tell you?
Thank you!
Alan
Error in images, this is after being cooked in, works for a few min but than get a compatibility error and shuts down
Interesting -- that's a different error than the one I get, though mine generally comes up around the same time. Mine says "Your device has been identified as not supported for this application."
How do we find error codes for these?
Alan
It seems they have the same root, this has been cooked in I was hoping to go "around" the not supportive error that you get with the cab file.
Since I took it out of my build I think the best way will be to run it cooked in an emulator to get it.
Huh, interesting...
I'm going to take a better look on this.

[Q] How to uninstall a cab with no Start Menu access

Hi all.
I did something foolish; installed a CAB, restarted the device (6.5.3), and since then I lost access to the Start Menu.
The simple yet long solution would be to reinstall the entire OS from flash (clean boot); but I hope I won't have to go that way. My device was working really good for the past few weeks, and it took me a long time to get it there.
So, is there a way I can access the "Uninstall Programs" shortcut/program without access to the Start Menu?
I've got a QVGA Motorola Motosurf A3100, running WM 6.5.3.
Thanks in advance,
Mr. Hat.
Can you access a file explorer?
If yes goto Windows/ControlPanel.exe
good day.

boo. sorry. 6.1 has that you would think that much would not have changed between 6.1 and 6.5.
The next thing I personally would do is SKTools. Very handy app, it's the only way i un-install programs anyway. Gets rid of all windows miscellaneous debris that windows leaves behind. Program has many other cool features.
good day.

[Q] Please help. HTC HD2 AmeriCanAndroid Newbie.

Hi guys and girls.
All I want to know is:
Installation & Updating Proceedure is the same!:
Download the build to your pc.
1. americanandroid.7z -> unzip!
2. copy folder unzipped\AmeriCanAndroid\Android -> to -> \sdcard\Android
(COPY THE WHOLE FOLDER.. NOT JUST INDIVIDUAL FILES!!!!!!)
3. in winmo, run clrcad.exe and haret.exe in the \storage card\Android\ folder. OR (alternatively install exceller bootloader for winmo for one click or AUTO launch of Android OS)
first boot always takes a long time be patient, it will work, and future boots do not take as long.
^^^^^^^^^^
That part, right there. How long is "a long time" just so I know if everything is going smooth or if something is wrong. Currently been 25-35 minutes now and still on the black screen with tiny white writing.
9 lines, last line reads "jumping to kernel (custom)..."
Thanks for your time,
Xuazvius.

Sound disappears
Similar problem here. I have sound in americanandroid, it works fine for some time, but then it disappears for no particular reason. No ringtone, no notification, no mp3 sound. I do not change any settings. Sound works fine in Widnows, restart Android - sound appears and then same thing. I have TMobile HTC HD2 1024 version.
