finally appeared to have successfully gotten jh7 ota via kies mini earlier today but not sure everything is 100% as should be. Everything processed and said installed succesfully.
Phone and PDA show as JH7
CSC still shows as JF6?
can someone else on jh7 check theirs?
my csc should be jh7 too right?
Samsung Kies webpage mentions update to JH7 via Kies Mini.
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=558&AT_ID=338212
Meh.. read the details.
* Does the JH7 update contain an upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo)?
o No. JH7 is maintenance release.

MEH! what are you talking about? OP wanted to know what the CSC field should read - I see no mention of Froyo in this thread. Your link has no mention of CSC versions either. Are you even answering the right question?
OP, CSC should be JF6 still.
thanks...had finally found another post stating csc should still be jf6
glad to see a confirmation

[Q] Is there a difference in the AT&T JH7 OTA update and Kies Mini Firmware update??
So I was one of the lucky ones who was able to get the OTA update from AT&T to install correctly. I now have Quickoffice and GPS seems to have improved drastically. However, I dont feel that my media scan times and "lag" have been improved, if anything they have gotten worse.
I guess my main question is, is there any difference between the OTA update AT&T released and the firmware update Samsung just released thru Kies? I recall reading some threads where people posted conversations with Samsung reps saying not to download the OTA update from AT&T because it wasn't the official update. Maybe I should have listened.
They are the same.
I'm on the Kies Mini update of JH7, I can't speak on the standpoint of comparison between Kies Mini and OTA as I couldn't successfully install the OTA.
However, the Kies JH7 has been running perfectly for me since I've installed it - seem's to have all the same features and changes as the OTA
check the build dates...
there is a command to check it, just forgot what it was...
the kies mini is 9-10-2010
what about ota version?

It is the same.
I would agree that they are both the same - after further comparison of the version info etc.
Supposedly the same. The OTA JH7 and Kies Mini JH7 should be the same. These however are different from the JH7 that was "leaked" on the samsungfirmwares.com website.

I did regular Kies - and the answer is no. No one using any method lost anything. This is not a full firmware update it is only a few MB.
Being a noob at Android ( came from BB, and thankful I did ) I have two questions:
* The OTA said it failed yet my Phone reads
Model...........SGH-1897
Firmware.......2.1-update1
Baseband Version.....1897UCJH7
Kernal version......2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number......Eclair
Nothing after the Eclair like Coltin 5419 has after his
* How do I check Quadrant Scores?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I have problems updating OTA to froyo.
Few days ago froyo was released for the i5500.
I installed XWJI2 or XWJI1 for samfirmware.com and since then I can't update using Kies anymore.
Is it possible to flash back?
Or does someone have a froyo for me?
Hi, where you get the Froyo fw. for i5500 from?
froyo is almost out for i5500. Samsung told me. It is in beta
Really? Which country are u from? this is really a great news
Sent from my GT-I5500 using XDA App
Hi everybody
I read in many forums the update from europe comming soon in december!
It's possible this is avaiable for other régions
For the update with Kies , if you have flashing a firmware from samfirmware.
Kies says "... don't update this device" no stress.
Normally kies see 2.2 Update when this is avaiable.
If you want sure .
Download à firmware with no CSC in samfirmware.com (i have used I5500XWJG9 # Version 2.1 2010 July )
Flash with ODIN
When the phone is flashed no configure this
plug your usb cable
open Kies
Kies says "Youhou i have a udpate for your phone"
Accept update
Enjoy !
Kies says you " no update avaiable for this phone"
For froyo wait and see
Can I update the i5500 with kies?
Kies says me " no update avaiable for this phone".
I want froyo!
I'v tried what qouet said, It just doesnt work anyone else with any suggestions?
Do not update to Froyo, I broke my i5500 now the phone is only PDA goes (baseband unknown) and restart without reason alone.
Hey guys, im new.
Got a question if you dont mind? (hope this is the right place to post)
I have a Galaxy S2 GT i9100, im on the network 3 in the UK, and the phone is unbranded and unlocked.
i recently flashed the Polish version of the official ICS because i am impatient. (3 released their version 3 days later )
so, i began the process of flashing an older rom, KE7 to be exact, just so Kies can accept my phone to back up and to receive the latest official UK release of 3s ICS. I have successfully flashed and kies recognised my phone, but the version it is suggesting to update to is KI4??
Do i need to update the firmwares previous to ICS before i can actually get ICS?
Any help will be appreciated.
thanks
You need to flash the 3 branded firmware in order to get the recent 3 update. If that's what you did then I don't know what's wrong. If you didn't do that then go get the correct firmware from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
Thanks for the reply,
foolishly i never checked what the original firmware was, but i never had a '3' logo on the boot up of the phone, i didnt buy it from '3' either, i got it from an online based contract provider on '3'.
So i just assumed i could reflash a sim free firmware then kies would recognise my number as being a '3' number - or is this not the case?
Do you think i should download the KI4 and see if it recommends a futher update?
Cheers
will do, il report back.
Officially updated through kies to 2.3.4 KI4, but no update to ICS. hmm, not sure what to do next, try another base firmware?
Any suggestions?
If you have an official 3 firmware then it should be offering you the update, as far as I'm aware. I suppose the fact that it came from a non-3 supplier may make a difference.
The alternative is to just download and flash the latest 3 firmware yourself, which you can get here...
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=1
Just scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see LPQ for 3 customers.
ahh, that was going to be my next question 'would the fact i got it through a third party vendor determin whether i got ics through 3' i cant find a clear answer for this.
so if i take the bloatware on the chin and get ics through odin on 3, would kies recognise this and enable me to back up?
Turned on my tab this morning before work and after a few minutes a pop up displayed a message indicating a firmware update was available. Didn't do anything 'cause I'm rooted and customized and wasn't sure CWM would remain to get me back to where I was. Looked here expecting to see everyone talking about it and disecting it and am suprised to see nothing. Maybe this is old news and I missed it? I keep this site up on a browser tab 100% but it is still possible. I searched and went back a few and didn't see anything. Anyone else getting this?
i saw the update late last night, and tried to do it, but it kept giving errors when i tried to install it both from kies and ota. My firmware wasnt listed in the stock firmware list so i used odin to put in stock firmware, amd now the update isnt showing.
The update was 150mb and said something about updating the market.
Heres hoping i didnt delay ics for myself
On my end both kies and the built in updater are telling me there is no update so maybe something strange happened on their end? Or maybe they are getting ready to release it
150MB? doesnt sound like ICS. I would expect it to weigh in over 400MB. Hopefully Im wrong. Maybe its some "prep" update to fix someting for the coming ICS.
What build number are you on? The latest for the P6210 is LA3. Since you can't update with a custom recovery in place you may be behind a version or two and thats why Kies is telling you an update is available. To get any update, including ICS, you will have to put the stock recovery back, this is all covered in Gary's post for rooting and installing CWM Recovery. No device I know of will accept a carriers or manufacturers update with a custom recovery in place.
My GT-P6210 is stock, and neither Kies nor the device shows a firmware update. Kies says current firmware is PDA:LA3/CSC:LA3 (XAR).
I'm not sure what firmware I was last night. I did a search for the firmware version it said I had, but I was only able to find one or two references to it.
I am currently on LA3 and not seeing any updates available.
Yeah, I feel like an idiot. I upgraded to LA3, couldn't use Gary's kernel (and I had to have it for my project) so I downgraded with my nandroid. I used Kies to get the upgrade, was not prompted, and forgot about it. So...sorry, fellas! False alarm. Feel free to ignore my future outbursts.
The P6210 I purchased earlier this week came with LB2. Is this newer or older than LA3?
LA3 is the third firmware build in Jan 2012. LB2 would be the second build in Feb of 2012 (so LB2 would be newer.)

I supposed it is not possible to extract the ROM file out of the tablet, as I didn't get any response here.
Could LB2 be for Canada only (since ikeny's P6210 was bought there)? Would that explain why U.S. customers aren't seeing it as an available update?

Could be. But interestingly, there is no "English (Canada)" or "French (Canada)" in the language selection. Hopefully it's not any hardware differences.
[Update] In the other thread about the IR port, it's been pointed out that the Canadian version does not include the IR port. I don't get Samsung, it's like they think the fragmentation problem is not bad enough (GTab 7, 7.7, 8.9, 10.1, 7.0+... ), they want to introduce more different variants (P6200, P6210; now P6210 with IR and without IR). No wonder why it is taking so long to release ICS for all these devices !!!

Kies wont' display my firmware version, which is annoying. Can I find out from the device itself? Navigating to About Device shows no "firmware" but mentions "Kernel Version: 2.6.36-P6210UEKJC-CL567728 [email protected] #3" with "Build Number: HTJ85B.UEKJC P6210UEKJC". What the <bleep> does *that* mean??

KJC:
K == 2011 (K is 2011, L is 2012, M will likely be 2013)
J == October (10th letter of the alphabet, 10th month of the year..)
C == 12th revision (1,2,3,...8,9,A,B,C,D)
hmmm, not as recent as LB2 then
I guess I could always take it to an authorised service centre for an official firmware upgrade...
A couple of quick questions:
1). My GT7+ build number is P6210UELA1 and it's rooted with Gary's method. Will the firmware update remove the root?
2). What does this firmware fixed? The only problem I have are:
- Lag after using the device for certain time (moving screen, etc.)
- Apps that are tablet-optimized is not shown as such (Mint, TripAdvisor) and shown in "phone" mode.
1. AFAIK, none of garyd's root options are compatible with standard firmware updates. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
In order to upgrade your firmware, you'd need to restore your tablet to stock first and then upgrade to the latest firmware.
2. AFAIK, the issues you are experiencing will not be remedied by updating the firmware.
Thanks for the information. Do you know if I can re-root once I downloaded the latest firmware? I.e. download latest firmware, lose root, with new firmware re-root.

Yes.
Before I recently switched to an older firmware (so that I could use garyd's custom kernel), I had updated to the latest LA3 and rooted using p6210_CWMR_20120107.zip from [GT-P6210][CWMRecovery][ROOT] ClockworkMod Recovery and Root (07-Jan-2012). My tablet was running fine.
A while back i had tried installing the android pie update for my samsung s8+ in canada and of course it did not work. As always samsung takes 100000 years to put out an update and its still not here. Anyways i havent received any updates since and my software version is probably not right. I was wondering if it will automatically update when android pie comes out or if it wont update at all. Also the device security isnt working so thats a bad thing thats why i want to try and revert it. Thanks, sorry for the unclarity if any.

And the software for which version did you flash exactly? I assume you have a G955W variant? If so then it should be as easy as downloading the latest firmware from fw.updato.com or search Google for Samfirm and use it to download the latest firmware for your phone. Flash via Odin and it should be back to normal.
