I've navigated through the system files to /system/media/audio/ui to try to find the Samsung Keyboard noise, but alas, unable to find.
Anyone able to help me out on this? Is there an application that lets you modify application sounds? I understand the ogg file converter and pushing via cmd prompt, so if you could tell me where the Samsung Keyboard sound is that'd help the poppaloppin' noise is too loud for my taste. I know you can disable it but I prefer another sound. Thanks!
I was thinking the same thing. I have the Samsung Vibrant stock 2.2 and with the loud ticking noise it makes me want to turn my phone on silent. But rather than complaining and hating it, I want to make it better. like the older LG Quick messaging phones (I dont remember which model) had a full qwerty keyboard and every different button you pressed made a soft simple little note from a keyboard or piano or something. so whenever one of my friends was typing a text it sounded amusing listening to little songs that can be made by simple random letters being pressed.
So I would just like to know if anyone knows where these files are located, because finding them is the hardest part. making the noise would be nothing at all, it'd just take a few hours. just pull up a sound board and make different notes for each letter. Anyone have any ideas??
UPDATE:
ok so if you get root explorer (obviously needs to be rooted) and go to
/system/media/audio/ui
you will see the ".ogg" sound files. you can replace any of those, as long as you name them the same file names as the stock ones. I replaced mine with the linda voice
link --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=962442
it also has an ".ogg" sound file for these:
"keypress standard" (regualr letters)
"keypress spacebar"
"keypress delete"
and "keypress return" I think was the last one (probably the enter button on keyboard)
I'm actually about to go home and play with those and see what I can make.
I still want to be able to do a different tone for each letter but have to look further into that. so far this is ok
Man I've done that 3 times now using the .ogg keyboard sounds I pulled from a different ROM I really wanted, but no matter how many times I delete the originals then rename mine exactly it stays the same! I'm losing hope and patience.

Hey, at least your sounds didn't go entirely silent like mine did! Ugh. I'm stuck here.

Sorry, I missed your response! I couldn't figure out how to get custom sounds going so I just reverted to the stock files. It's aggravating that LineageOS keyboard sounds are so horrible, lol, but oh, well.

Oh hey I actually got this working on my end lol. I was trying to replace the system sounds using solid explorer and it wasn't working, but I switched to fx manager and it worked.

I just found the ultimate bug and I believe this bug is responsible for G-Alarm and pTravelalarm not working. These alarm programs set the system volume to a predefined value, no matter where it was before (off, for example).
Why the heck does the PHONE RINGER volume influence the SYSTEM volume?
Check out the video:
here

Can this be fixed in Windows? Reg-Hack?
Anyone here with a AT&T Fuze that can test this please? Is my hardware defective? I'm still within the 30 days to return that sucker if it is.
Thanxxx
Wow, strange!!
I already saw your post in the G-Alarm thread yesterday.
Just tested it with my Touch Pro running ROMeOS 1.51, and I do not have this bug.

I suspect it is related to the latest AT&T stock rom. I hope someone with a brand new AT&T version can test this. If it's just a rom problem, then I can probably flash mine but I don't want to try that right now and lose warranty if I'm not sure...
here's my latest video that shows directly how crucial this bug is to any alarm program:

Again, it's myself who figured it out. After hours of trying and 3 hard resets (thanks to SpriteBackup I didn't have to install everything over again!)
Here is the result and the culprit is identified!

Anyone else here with the AT&T Fuze that has the same problem? Is there a fixed version of ozim available?

Interesting, but can you please post your solution in text form as well so that every single person who reads this thread from now until the end of time does not have to go watch a Youtube video ?

Yeah sure, no problem. I just thought a picture says more than 1000 words and a video says even more. But here in plain English:
Starting up the OZ IM Messenger Client on the AT&T Fuze (or worse, having it autostart with the system) completely screws up the system volume settings. Suddenly the RINGER volume slider also influences the SYSTEM volume. Say you turn your ringer volume all the way down but you still want to listen to mp3's in Windows Media... nada. If you set your phone to silent or vibrate and have a nice alarm program like G-Alarm installed, the alarm will go off but no sound out of the speaker!
After closing down OZ IM you still have to soft-reboot to get your system sounds back.

Is there a newer version of the OZ IM available that doesn't f*** up the system volume? That company's website doesn't even allow you to contact anyone, let alone check for updates or get support
Here's the newest development in this case.
Tried a different OZ IM (verizon version) last night and the sound bug was GONE. BUT I got errors connecting. Found out that there is a config file with verizon gateway in it, replaced it with the AT&T one. Still an error. Different one though (404). Re-installed the original AT&T version. Sound bug back immediately
Just overwrote the .exe file with the one from Verizon: Sound bug gone but again connection error 404...
WTF?
Anyone have a different AT&T version besides the obviously screwed up 2.0.84 M ?
Hi all
Sorry to make a new thread but this is something that just does not make any sense. I took the plunge when 5.0* was released and I currently do not have the onscreen keyboard. There is a guy on these forums that was nice enough to help me out through gchat but I haven't gotten anywhere.
Just to be clear I have wiped several times and reflashed several times and I do not even have the MENU OPTION to enable the onscreen keyboard. The following picture should show what I mean (sorry I'm really bad at photoshop).
Anybody have a clue what to do? I'm willing to wipe again but it seems pointless because I've done it several times.
Also, I tried out the "G" version just to check it out and the onscreen keyboard comes up on this one.
That's odd. I installed 5.0.2H this morning and have no issues with the VK.
Is there a way to DBAN the G1? Something "better" than al+w? I'm desperate lol.
You must of not flaseheed correctly.
Make sure when you flash you press home and back together. Don't press Phone - Menu and Power
If you still have problems go into settings - Locale & Text
Make sure touchput Chinese is checked.
Mine works fine so yours should as well.
Good Luck
Is this Robbie? If it isn't, there is someone else with the same problem on another forum, so it isn't an isolated issue.

I've got bad news for you. Robbie forgot that he disabled it because he didn't know what he was clicking in settings.
He remembered this morning what he did, and now he's got it back. I hope your problem is as easy to solve.
One thing, it took me a few minutes to find mine, because I didn't realize that you have to click in the text box to have it appear.
Great. I guess I am losing my mind. Does anybody's "Locale & Text" look like mine?
71HC, could you check if /system/app/HTC_CIME.apk exists? )This is HTC's chinese touch input application and it's huge (>1M).) You can do this by typing "ls /system/app/HTC_CIME.apk" in Terminal or adb shell. if it's not, extract the file from the zip and adb push it to /system/app/ folder. Then reboot the phone. You make have to long press in a textbox to bring up the context menu and select input method, but the IME has to be enabled in Locale & text first.
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I looked it up on terminal and it looks like its there. I also looked it up on Linda file manager and it seems to be there. Can I long press it and install it from there? I was hoping it would be missing so that your solution would work. Now I'm even more confused.
I went ahead and tried to install HTC_CIME.apk
It told me that textinput chinese could not be installed on this device
great
Is there any way to force the onscreen keyboard to popup? I've had a few instances in the browser where I needed to type something and the cursor was in the right place but no amount of clicking would make the keyboard pop up so I could type. Is there any way to manually force the keyboard open in instances where the automatic open fails? Thanks.
Hold the menu button and your keyboard should pop up.
that just brings up search
Weird. It definitely brings up the keyboard on mine.
is this possible to port?
do you think you can put up the files in your "system/user/keylayout"
edit: nevermind

I can not get the files as the phone i tested on is in the possession of someone else and is not rooted (crazy right?).
I checked the rom listed in your sig and the files are different from the ones on my cappy so I couldn't really compare them. Also, what phone were you using?

My roommate is using the captivate from at&t, completely stock and unrooted though.
And now that I checked it out, he's an idiot. I asked him if holding the menu button brought up the keyboard just like on my nexus one (and showed him) and he tried it and said yes, but it really just brought up the search plus keyboard... Ugh. My apologies. I should have just checked for myself lol.
hmmmmm.... it looks like we may have to bring in the big guns...... does anyone happen to know any big guns?
Has anyone been successful to disable this?
+1 for this, it is annoying.

Been trying for two days to fix this 'feature' but they have changed the file position of the code and am having trouble finding it. Oh well at least I've learnt everything I ever wanted to know about decompiling/ recompiling . lol
I'm gonna try again in a few days once my sister has gone home as this is the first time in a year I've seen her in a year.
Wish me luck
i'm also looking for a way to disable increasing ring tone , also find it very annoying .
Try headset button controller
Not sure if this is actually a fix but just did some quick informal testing and seems to work: install app headset button controller and under advanced options set the default volume when plugging in headphones to 65% or above. If someone else can verify this it would be awesome.

Good try but when plugging my headphone in with this active, the device notices the volume change and the warning comes straight up.
Thanks anyway.
Ah yes, after I rebooted and plugged in I got the warning. However it seems to only be an issue the first time after reboot, then looks like it's good to go. Just don't reboot
Not sure if it applies to this phone as I sport note 4 and am only browsing, but in absence of xposed mod, I use tasker. Also free app 'hearing saver' from play store works for me.
Note 4 ?

I've already tried this. Needs smali edit. But I've been unable to find the code for this function.
edgarf28 has managed to accomplish this in his ROM and I have requested a point in the right direction or even a flashable version (bit cheeky I know) he has also managed to incorporate 5 way reboot that I would really like help with to. Might have to go and beg him again .lol

Just need a bit of help to finish getting my device perfect.
Problem is theres not much ROM deving on 925f at the moment. I know this will pick up. I'm just impatient
I've been searching everywhere for a way to disable this volume warning. Has anyone figure it out and posted instructions? I see it in a couple custom ROMs but I haven't found how it is done.

I've simply flashed the alliance ROM. Very happy
In general, this issue still bothers me. At least in my car, in which I use an auxilliary cord, I've an NFC tag programmed to open Spotify and turn media volume all the way up using NFC Tasks/Tools. At least for me, this works to get past the warning initially, and is useful when I need to unplug then plug back in.
I would love to see a general fix that doesn't require rooting my phone; that sanctimonious popup drives me bonkers.
If youll go to the music player on your phone. Click settings, then click smart volume on. Try it out. Works for me on my s6

This works... How easy was that!
sweeet! good work-around man! way better than using roms or rooting the sucker.
I feel pretty foolish for not being able to figure this out, but I've exhausted my store of ideas.
I can't change the sound for alarms, ringtones, or notifications. I have been fighting with this all day today, and went so far as doing a factory reset, which was a massive pain. The grand finale is that I STILL can't change it.
Any time I click the sound option in alarms, I can navigate through the files on my phone and "click" an mp3. This brings me back to the alarm options page as if it were a success, but "morning flower" is still the sound it displays and I'm assuming it's the name of the sound I hear when the alarm sounds (it's an annoying jingle).
What is worse, my ringtone is now a horrific beeping and any time I try changing it I have exactly the same end result: the song selection seems like it worked, but the ringtone is called "beep once" and sure enough it just beeps (but not only once). With notifications when I select a song the name is "default notification sound (media)," but the phone only vibrates (and yes I did make sure the sound was up).
I feel like I'm 95 and have picked up a smart phone for the first time ever, because I'm utterly baffled and no matter what I do the thing seems to be ignoring and defying me on this issue. In short, wtf?
I've only noticed these kinds of problems since I bought an o2 prepaid sim for my trip to Germany, which I had to fight against Verizon's bloatware and such in order to use. I've been using package disabler pro to kill VZW's slimy influence; is it possible that one of those apps controls media access somehow? Also, could Amaze file manager be somehow incompatible with the settings? I'm really frustrated and I'm not able to find a satisfying ad-free app that can take care of this stuff without being thwarted. What should I do here?
facepalm
Now I feel even stupider for going through all that, giving up, and coming here to post this rant. For any who ever come across this post, be sure to clear defaults for your file manager and then come back to the alarm sound selection and click "media storage" when it asks which app you want to use. Then you can click "add sound" and use your file manager through that interface to select the song. Don't get mad, get to the "clear defaults."

Did indeed. I learned how to mess about with Android and rooting with 4.4 and under but my Note 5 isn't rootable and so I don't play with it as much. I guess my skills are slipping, or perhaps they were never that great to begin with. That old galaxy Nexus was sure faithful and fun though.
