Hi All
I have searched and downloaded numerous players but all seem to have a flaw or don't work as expected. Can someone please point me in the direction of a good all round player, or a good convertor
Thanks in advance.
I am using the Hero with 2.1
Have you tried meridian player?
As for converter I recommend Super by eRightsoft.

Hi All
Thanks for all your help
After trying various players and converters I have finally found a solution that plays back smoother than a cashmere codpiece
I actually used the HTC player that is pre-installed but converted the movies with the Realplayer converter. It actually lists a few HTC phones and converts to .wmv and plays like a dream.
The only problem I have come accross is it will not show the title of the film just a snapshot, but at least the movie plays in top quality.
Rockplayer used to be my favorite, but it doesn't use your phones GPU to play higher quality movies. So if you want a video player that can play mkv files and divx WITH subtitle support that also remembers the position of every movie you play...
GET mvideoplayer
...assuming your phone has a decent GPU. I doubt it would be good for snapdragon phones... but it's better than the default Galaxy S movie player

I can't find ArcMedia player. Seems like it is gone from the marketplace. Too bad... it looked like a winner.
Act 1 is very refined with lots of options. It will only do h264/mp4, but it does them really, really well.

It's there right now. But just as "arcMedia" Simple interface, but handles a variety of video containers.

I checked out developer's website for rockplayer specifications and came to realise that it actually supports .srt subtitles if u only put them in same folder as movie.
Today i have a free application to recommend (MoboPlayer) , it's still on beta.
Official website : http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
Tested this application with a 720p MKV anime and it can play smoothly on it, tried it on rockplayer and it lag like hell.
However I think it's only work on 720p with around 30fps since Sony capped the max fps. Tried it with 24fps video and no problem with it.
It's support almost every type of video files just like rockplayer but have a nicer interface but you have to add the video into it's library in order to read.
Download link extracted from the website: http://update.moboplayer.com/android/release/mobo_1.0.120_v7_neon.apk
Please try it and comment below.
it did not even find my media, while other players did!
Awesome player! Confirmed but not high volume videos.

VITAL player is best
VITAL is better i guess
I have a 200MB .mkv file It plays in VITAL
Laggy in moboplayer/
i`ve tested a file with vital player
720p - 28 minutes - 1GB - mkv file - audio ac3 5.1
the vital player cant play it smooth and correct.
its very laggy. will test the mobo player next...
Now i can uninstall QQPlayer Vplayer nice...
V Player is BEST !!
I use Meridian Player and it seems to play files very smoothly. I shall give this one a shot though.

i cant understand why everybody is talking that kind of **** in this thread!?
pls believe me that there is no player for sony x10 which can play "real" 720p files well without async audio and laggy frames.
buy next phone with dualcore and i think its possible...
THE BEST Video player i ever seen for android .... way better than Vplayer's stupid interface ..... thank you very much
I really LOVE MixZing for all my MP3s! Its got a clean, simple, and dark interface. For video I use mVideoPlayer for Anime because its the only one I know that automaticly got subtitles for my episodes.
VitalPlayer I've been using for video, but I don't like how it doesn't have a list of your media like mVideoPlayer.
I'm gonna try this new one and see what I think... the hunt to only use one continues.
Amazing it's the best player to this moment ..
I test a lot of player but this is the best thanks man ...

Which version of Vital Player is for the X10 as our devices are Arm7 but on Market it states that Vital Player Neon is suitable for our X10s, even though that version is suppose to be for Cortex A8 devices only???

Sigh... That's just plain ignorant... The X10 has a hardware decoder that can handle even 1080p without any problems... BUT since it's a hardware decoder, the video stream has to be in a format it understands. In the X10, that means H.263, H.264 and MPEG-4.
Any other codec needs software decoding and for that, there isnt enough CPU power to do at more than ~15fps for 720p. By dropping frames, that wont desync audio but it will be laggy to watch so that statement is just plain wrong. Dualcore also wont change that one bit.
As for container, atleast from what I've seen so far, no third party player has ever handled hardware decoding themself but always relied on the built in videoplayer for that and simply showing the output. That however limits you also to containers that the builtin player understands for this, which is only MP4, AVI and MPG. But that may very well change and if OP states that this player can play 720p MKV files, it may very well be the first player to properly implement calling of the hardware decoder itself. Will be intresting to see.
But please, learn what it is you're bashing before doing it. It saves people from having to come correct your misconceptions about what you're bashing.

read the first post and you can see that he was talking about MKV FILES !!!
But its the same with an 720p avi file... i dont have the chance to test the mp4 at the moment...
everytime i want to play a 720p movie (and not a camera record) its laggy on my x10.
you mean if i rip a movie in the mp4 there would be no problems at all?
Ok, so I just tried this player... and it is super awesome!! Easily the best one I've tried so far! Thanks for sharing!
it took my application sound files and paired it with my audio files. not cool.
Thanks for all your feedbacks. The 720p (1280x720) h264 mkv file that I tried run smoothly on it. As some of you stated it's still lag, therefore i tried a 720p mp4 file and the video is quite smooth however there's lot of distortion in the audio maybe due to the 5 channel audio.
Will try again tommorrow if I have the time.
Anyway one of the good points of this player is
1) Better interface
2) Able to choose dual audio track (English, Japanese) or dual subtitles (English, German etc)
3) Much more smoother than other player
4) More gesture function.
Hope you all can get the best out of this player. Have a nice day.
I'm looking for a videop player that can play avi, mkv, m4v, and mp4. I'm currently using mVideo Player Pro, but it seem not to like avi, mkv, and m4v. Any help would be appretiated.
QQplayer
QQplayer android market
Try LittlePlayer, there's a free version that plays 5 mins of video to see if it will play what you want. It's the only video player besides stock (that I've come across) that fades out the status bar at the bottom of the screen, a MUCH appreciated feature. More video players need to do this or we need more people to support this player.

I use Vplayer (from the market). Seems to work ok so far, I haven't tested all the file types yet though.
I try and use the default player if possible (as it using hardware decoding) but otherwise I use Moboplayer.

mVideoplayer is running fine. It plays all my 720p High Profile mkv's (re-encoded according to the guide @xda).
Moboplayer and Rockplayer were also playing the files, but together with subtitles (srt's) they didn't get the job done (smoothly without subtitles, but with much lag when subtitles where shown) where mVideoplayer does it right.
I will give Littleplayer a try, because of hiding the status bar. Hopefully it's capable of playing subtitles.
Unfortunately Littleplayer does not support subtitles, but I like the hidden dockbar very much. If I could mix Littleplayer with mVideoplayer I would have the perfect videoplayer.

I don't know, it just plays all my movies from the start. I was experimenting with almost all players, but none of them were good for my demands (working subtitles). mVideoplayer plays every movie which I've encoded. I don't know in what way you open the movies, but I start them from an explorer, not from within the program itself. Maybe that works. I also had these problems with Rockplayer and Moboplayer. All my mkv's are re-encoded from the guide found here @ xda.
All movies should be re-encoded to change the ac3 sound to aac, otherwise you don't have any audio! I think this solves the no-sound issue with the mkv's.
Can you share this link for the guide?
My 720p or 1080p LOST Blu-Ray rips are playing in amazing quality on MOBO player but no sound unfortunately. I installed all the codecs from MOBO but still no luck. The picture quality is impressive though.

Doing a quick search i came up with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092965
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102243
I meant this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060825
When you're on HC 3.1 you don't have to encode the video anymore, only the ac3/DTS sound to aac to have sound on the TF. Then, the guides above will also be good enough and these will take less time to encode. When you're on HC 3.01 you have to encode video too.
I just used the attached presets from my link and I got perfect videoquality and sound, with seperate srt's I also have subtitles.
I had been using RockPlayer on my Android 2.2 GTab and it was my best choice for video playback. When I got my Android 3.1 TF, RockPlayer Lite would work but you couldn't activate it because of the HC OS. They have a new HC 3.1 release now and it works perfect for me and activates perfect. (I did have to buy another license but a great program and worth the $9.99 for me...)
Ok, I've been struggling with this and doing all sorts of research, but I can't seem to piece together a definitive answer. This is what I know (or think I know anyhow)
1) H264 will play just fine from more or less any video player as long as you have the decode mode set right. this seems to be why so many people swear to their particular player (and I've tried so many, moboplayer, dice, etc etc.)
2) H364 is just pure crap because Tegra2 just can't handle it. Something with proprietary codecs or some such.
Now, experimenting with different HD files over the time I've owned my TF, some play and some don't. I've heard others claim otherwise. If anybody can guarantee they can play ANY , really ANY HD mkv file (H364 without re-encoding included) I'd like to know what ROM/app you're using (and I'm sure a lot of others would too). I'm sick of having to pick out/convert my movies all the time.
I'd really like to put this thing to rest.
I hear ya I dont want to re-encode my library either but becuase I cant stand not knowing I have been doing some testing to see what the problem is with not being able to play all files. I have discovered that that the Transformer does not like 5.1 channel AAC audio. I can encode any video to MP4 and it plays great when I set the audio to stereo but when I try with 5.1 AAC MP4 files it no worky. 5.1 AC3 seems to be ok. I too have tried many players from the market and get different results with each one using the 5.1 setting (such as stuttering or lagging or I think it was BS player would only play the rear channel audio) but setting my encoding output to stereo they all play fine. I was on the Google Android Developers site and it stated stereo only was supported for honeycomb so maybe the ICS upgrade will fix this issue? In the meantime I plan on continuing testing different bit rates and audio settings to try and get to the bottom of this. Sorry in advance if this did not help you.

The problem with this is that most players out there only let you use one decoding mode for both video AND audio. what player lets you do what you're saying?

MX player will play the movies just fine but the issue is with the audio. The Transformer has a problem playing audio encoded with 5.1 & 6.1.

Hey guys. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I think the stock video player is ****. Then again, I haven't liked stock something in a long time in any of my phones.
I'd like to know which video player is best? One that handles all known video formats beautifully and taht plays even 720p MKV files smoothly or as smooth as can be.
Do suggest paid apps as well. I haven't had a good video player in ages, so I'm ready to dish out around 5 bucks for it. I'd want VLC, though, but it's been in development for ages and seems to never see light.
What about MX Player Pro???
MoboplayerPro or Rockplayer
Be warned, rock player ain't preety, but it's a format buster, mobo has a neater ui and works around about the same.
Another vote for moboplayer. One of the main things I do on my GS2 is to watch videos. I´ve thrown a bunch of different formats and codecs and I never had any issues. It also supports subtitles.
MX Player for me. Swiping for volume/brightness/scrubbing is awesome. It also has 200% volume boost via software encoder.
i'm using MoboPlayer, Think is best
interface +
compatibility +
Another vote for moboplayer!! It's pretty good...

Try diceplayer from market.
Diceplayer is the first HW accelerated video player in Android Market.
It support 720p H.264 MKV with OGG/FLAC/AC-3/DTS audio and embedded and external subtiles.
and SMB/FTP/HTTP support.
You can play video from your PC with SMB share with external subtitle.
I use MX Player & its the best player so far, it contains every feature I want... Best & fast...
Haven't really played alot of videos on my phone for a while now, but i use VitalPlayer by Ringo.
Found it to be one of the better apps for playing video. Tried quite a few before picking that one.
