[APP] Minimalistic Text - Android Apps and Games

So here it goes. My first Android app.
I would like to peresent a first Beta release of Minimalistic Text.
This app is heavily inspired by Clockr and BattStatt but adds some additional benefits.
Why?
While searching for a reason to dig into Android app development I came across Clockr and BattStatt. So I decided to rebuild them.
As the first version of a text-clock was ready, I wanted to push this widget one abstraction layer up to some kind of meta-widget that brings the different approaches of displaying information in a textual, minimalistic way in one line so that it gets possible to make all this text widgets look the same way.
But the main driver for me to spend evenings at my PC developing this app has been just the fun of it

What is Minimalistic Text for?
In the first case Minimalistic Text is a widget app that displays information in a minimalistic way.
„Yet another Text Clock?“ one may ask.
The answer is „Yes“, but more than that.
Flexibility
Minimalistic Text tries to give you much more control about what information to show and how this information should be presented. The architecture of the widget allows (the developer) to add easily new sources of information and let the user integrate them in a widget.
Today Minmalistic Text knows 4 sources of information:
Time
Date
Battery
Weather
These information sources provide a set of variables that can be used in the widget configuration to build up your very own widget.
Resource Management
Minimalistic Text tries to update the widgets only when necessary. Each widget analyzes the information (variables) it uses and knows when it has to be updated. So the update service updates only the widgets that have to be updated.
When the screen of the device goes off, Minimalistic Text stops updating any widgets immediately and restarts the update process when the screen goes on again.
For example: If a widget only has time variables and the voltage of the battery changes, the time widgets doesn't get updated. Sounds naturally? I don't want to know how many widgets out there don't take care about their update frequency .
Still under development
Minimalistic Text is still under heavy development. So many ideas are on my todo-list that haven't been implemented yet.
This can lead to breaking changes (that would force you to re-add your widgets to the home screen). Of course I will take care to avoid this, but it could happen.
How you can help
I am open to criticism and suggestions. One reason for throwing the app in the public at this stage of development is to get early feedback in order to direct the development in the right direction.
Please tell me if an error occurs. Either here in this thread, via PM or e-mail.
For a little guide see this link.
Download
Minimalistic Text supports devices running Android 1.6 and up.

APK?

It is only available over the market so that I can see more information about crashs.
If you don't want to scan the barcode you can simply type "de.devmil.minimaltext" into the market search box.

I don't have a home computer so I use the XDA app. Can't scan it. Can't find it in Market.

Scratch that, found it. Sorry dude.

Mind adding something so we can separate our info?
Month is showing november when I am in december
Request for all caps for weekday text
Nice app

Do you mean a Text like "|" to separate the text blocks?
What month variable are you using? Or are you using a predefined layout?
You can define the case of the text in the preferences already.

Both with symbols and spaces
Using digits for months
thanks I missed it

Fix for the month-bug is published.
On my todo-list is the following idea: The ability to place a text-variable anywhere you want and set the text it should display. This would solve your problem partially (text only).
Thank you for the input.

thanks for update, working well, waiting for separators
Is there a way to re-add the widgets you made already, say for a different launcher etc?

It´s a pity, under MIUI-ROM 0.11.26 the settings screen is grey all over. Just the preview bar at the bottom is visible and works.

[APP][12/1] Calendr/Calendr+ 1.5 - Released on Market!

As you probably would have guess, inspired by clockr, here comes the calendr widget, your minimalistic calendar event widget.
How minimalistic?
Follows the style of clockr, only needed information is shown. It shows the upcoming events within 1 week range, and most importantly, it only shows 1 event.
FAQ
Can you make tapping the widget open the detail of the event?
I tried, trust me. But somehow, the event detail view open with incorrect information. If anybody knows how android properly handle calendar intents, do tell me please!
How much resource does the widget use?
No polling is done. The widget now hooks onto Android Calendar to detect changes to it. 1 widget refresh update is done per day in the case where no changes in the Android Calendar is detected.
Picture speak a thousand words...

I like it. I plan on using it in my next screenshot on colormeandroid =D I already wrote an article about it http://bit.ly/eilcO2
Great work, great idea. I've wanted a calendar widget that only displays one event for ages!
One thing I've noticed is that it only displays one category, not all of them, or my shared calendars? Am I overlooking something?

You just filled a void I have tried to fill for the past year and a half. I like to have a minimum homescreen and could never find a calendar to fit into the space I wanted it to. But now I have this space filled. Thank you. You should put in the Market so we know when you update. But I suppose you want to do more alpha testing. Added this thread to favs.

Heh. Apparently I accidentally left the bug for the multi calendar. Will fix it in next version.
Not in market yet because I haven't polished it enough.

This really is fantastic - great work fella - really chuffed - it also fills a void for me too.
Will there be a font size option etc?
When will the next version drop?
Thanks so much again - seriously chuffed about your app and will be spreading the word too! x
suggestions:
text size options...
N° of events displayed....
Doesn't work on HTC Wildfire.
More customizations would be available later on. Cut the alpha some slack.
@Tsjoklat
your description doesn't help me. perhaps you want to provide a more detailed description? like... Android Version... etc.
Very Good!
But in french, it will be the must!
Can I help you for french transaltion?
thanks
I installed Calendr on my N1. I am stock, not rooted. As soon as I put the widget on my homescreen, and tried to open my6 sense, my phone froze. I had to do a battery pull. It was probably my fault but I thought you might be interested to know what happened. (I use ADWlauncher, by the way) I do really like the way the widget looks though.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Polling every 30mins? That is bad practice in Android! You'd better subscribe to calendar events using a Content Provider with your widget app and be notified of changes instantly.
@Babydoll25 thanks for the report.
@j0bro
im honestly new to this content provider and this is a whipped up alpha. but thanks for the pointer, i didn't know you can subscribe to the content provider. the only issue now is that, now, i need to create service for the app. hopefully it doesnt use much RAM.
Great widget!
I'd like the ability to customize some options, like text colour, font and number of events (or at least some kind of indicator showing there are multiple upcoming events?)
Been waiting for something like this. Thanks for creating it!
I love the concept. I get the widget on my homescreen, but no letters, no text. A bit too minimalistic. Am I missing something?
cool design this can very useful for me thanks. as i always forgets appointments

Nice one man, let me know what you think
Wow, this application is fantastic! The options are endless and cover any config for looks or device. I am definitely going to purchase this one.
Great job!
I've been using this app since a long time and I really love it. Before a few weeks, I've bougt the pro version to support the developer.
Everything is working fine, but one thing:
It's terrible to change the theme. It's great to have that function, but I really don't know, what I'm doing there.
Click here, click there, look - no changes. Click there, click here - changes. But why?
The settings are really hard to use. I hope, that you can makes this theming easier for us^^
This is one of the few app I have never uninstalled. I think because it is so darned customizable. and that it has always been actively developed. Glad to be able to check out the newest features. Thanks
One of the few true "must have" Android apps. Thanks for all your hard work!
I've also been using this app for several months. Keep up the good work!
So am i,
I thing i would is like a button on the button or top thats opens agenda,.. or does it have it already and that is missed it?
Keep up youre good work
Gr.
I have compared a bunch of calendar widgets, and I this was the best one . I have been using it for kind of a long time now. I love how efficient it is about space, allowing me to see as much as possible in a limited amount of space. And of course scrolling.
Good job!
I've been using your app for a long time and I love it.
Here's a screenshot of it on my Nexus One:
There is problem with the time on my device. I get tasks from Google Calendar and they start one hour too early. If I got an appointment at 8 it shows as if I got it at 7.
just wanted to say ive been using the pay version of your app for some time on my G2 and I absolutely love it. ive tried almost all the calendar/agenda widgets out there and none come close to yours in customization. big thanks and looking forward to future updates. no bugs here for me so far.
This App has become my new homescreen calander/agenda. I use to use calwidget (great app by the way) by came across agenda widget and fell in love. Love how you can scroll with ADW.
Only complaint is the UI needs some cleanup and tweaking. Took me an hour to get it to look the way I wanted it too.

Wow that was a lot of replies in no time!

It has this function, you might need to override the date click action in settings->buttons and toolbars. This will become more automatic and easier to set in one or two releases as I have a nice little wizard half written which forces you to choose settings for click actions that will work

I was planning to release the free version to the market today (version 1.6.3), if anyone has time to check it doesn't break anything by upgrading the the dev version from the current market version it would be much appreciated!

Nice, that fixed the problem!
I've tried the developer version now and I like the preview setting though i still find the whole color/transparency settings a bit confusing (now you can set the transparency inside the color setting?).
I also think I found a bug here - when you change something "error compiling widget" begins popping up at the top but you probably know.
Keep up the great work.

Yep, someone told me about that.
I am going to change the way the preview works so it can also preview scrolling widgets, once I do this I hope it will automagically fix the weird error compiling widget problem.
I've been using this widget for some time and it is the best agenda widget out there!
Thanks!
I would like to have a separate tasks and agenda widget. This is completely possible except that calendars are global whether 'use global settings' is ticked or not.
I updated to the dev plus version and I've encountered no bugs that haven't already been mentioned. The preview is brilliant saved exiting settings for every change

Hey man,
The calendar list is stored in a database (rather than preferences like everything else) so there is a separate preference to handle the calendar list per widget called "widget calendars independent" in the calendars preference branch. There are some instructions on the wiki that should help.

Hmm... i just tried on three devices (hc, ics, cm9) and the keyboard pops up fine when clicking the login field.
Can you please try another site? Or maybe a reboot? We use the webkit browser and its not flawless so the keyboard hiding we do at first run may be screwing with it.
Lets see if we can fix this for you.

Fixed keyboard issue present on some phones
Fixed image cache optimization (much faster now)
Fixed a rendering issue that occurs if data connection is lost

This is awesome. Tried to make some widgets, but i don't have so much ideas. Anyway the keyboard sometimes don't work, i must exit and start again, and sometimes back button doesn't go to previous page but exit the widget config. A possible overall preview would be nice(maybe full screen preview) since i make some changes and don't know how the widget will look. Another thing that i noticed is that when i select an element, in selection section it shows on center and nice aligned on every row, but when i put it on homescreen it's just one row after another. Here it's an e.g:
Selection:
---------
###
---------
**
Homescreen:
-------###------**
Also would be possible to take whole div, not only an element from that? I tried to take a div that contains some text and an image, but only the text was selected. This is a nice piece of work, keep up the good work.

Hi. Thanks. If you like it, please leave a comment on the play store - at this early junction good reviews will help us spend more time making things better
Regarding the preview - its in the works, though it is pretty complex to do. We will use our Prepaid Widget as a template, so you can have a look at that if you want a a preview of how thew preview will look...
Re many elements. ATM its only possible to select one at a time. We are working on an internal launcher which will allow you to move all the elements around. Its slated for release this month.

Just something that i forgot to ask, sometimes it takes up to 150MB RAM, usually 50~60MB isn't a bit much?

- Enter a website, select an element(click on it then use the arrows from bottom to select between multiple elements)
!!! make sure you have the checkbox from bottom-left ticked !!!
- Click on the plus sign near the ticked box to select that element and go to widget preference screen.

We will implement multiple elements soon when our widget constructor comes out. Within two weeks the beta will be up.
Re ram - this is because of images. And of course the cache of the webkit browser, which once closed is shunted out of ram.
On modern devices this isnt a problem though...

New App - Amazing technology! The end of homescreen chaos!

What is it?
How many times have you rambled through your phone searching for an App? Wondering where in the world, among all those icons is the one you are searching.
Worry no more! That's what EZ-Launch is for.
To be honest, Ez-Launch is more of a widget than an app, and it helps you makes sense of your overburdened home screen.
How do I install it ?
Well, after you find " Ez-Launch " on google play store and download (Apologies for the absence of a link) and download, You add the Ez-Launch widget to your homepage, and EZ does the rest.
The app will learn your preferences and give you E-Z access to your favorite apps.
What if I don't want this app or that app on my widget? What choices do I have?
In purpose of enabling you more control we have defined a settings screen that enables you to select one of 3 options for every app installed on your device:
Always - This app will always be on the widget
Off - Never place this app on the widget.
Auto - Its up for the EZ-Launch app to decide.
In addition you also have the possibility to save a state of the widget (a certain collection of apps that you like) and load it later on as you please.
What?? How does it work? Is it... MAGIC!?
No. It isn't magic. It is a project developed by 4 Computer science students from Tel aviv University within an android technologies workshop in collaboration with Google.
During the project we have researched, studied and developed algorithms and heuristics (Yeah, sounds a bit complicated) all for your benefit and ease of mind. In order not to burden the reader, we will briefly just explain that the application service simply learns you, and knows how to give you the most convenient arrangement for your home screen that just continues to improve.
This is a project in the Beta phase, and we strongly recommend that you give it a try and download, especially if you know someone (Like your parents) that is having a hard time managing their home screen.
For those of you who don't know what Beta means, it is the phase right before the official release of the app, where you get to try it for free(!) and even influence the development by giving us your valuable feedback.
That's right! If you have complaints, suggestions, or any type of feedback just let us know by contacting the development team by mail:
[email protected]
Or on our Facebook page, where you can also LIKE us:

So download, enjoy and let us know what you think.
Yours with love,
EZ-Launch Team.

Thanks. We would love to get your feedback.
To be honest...
This has quite the potential. I am amazed that I seem to be the only one trying it out here! I've been using it a couple of days now and it already gives me a great list of my most used widgets. I'm using it as a 5x3 widget on my note and thanks for making it scrollable as well!
I will recommend this! Thanks!

Great app indeed!
I only have one comment: while using it with Nova Launcher, resizing the widget 'kills' the way the icons are displayed, as I can only see half of the last row (for custom number of rows/columns).
good work with the app, reminds me of similar things with WinMo 6.x on my Sony Eric son X1 a while back. Would be nice to have resizable app icons within the widget though, if possible.
What a great idea! I am also surprised this app is not getting more attention. Nice work.
Thank you all for the positive feedback. We derive great pleasure in knowing that people like our creation and find it useful.
Besides from relishing on your compliments we would also like to hear any suggestions or complaints you might have. Do not hesitate to post here, email us at [email protected] or like us on facebook.com/EzLaunch
Thanks. :good:
sadly only for android 4 and up on store.

Hi. Is it possible to have an option for the widget to return to the top of its list after launching an app? Would love to see this feature added if possible.

AW: New App - Amazing technology! The end of homescreen chaos!
Hi,
Nice app. Would be great if you could make icon text optional and a scale down for icons. Till now I used a launcher-x widget on my home screen that is 5x2 grid size and contains 7x3 icons of my most used apps.
As is use these apps often the text is not needed. By scaling down the icons I can just get more icons in it.
Pretty nice app so far. If you could implement some of these features it would be worth buying it.

The last update from a couple of hours ago caused a reset. Just use your phone like normal and after a couple of hours or days the widget will automatically give you a better list.

Rovers Floating Launcher
Your favorite apps, always one-click away
meet Rovers, always there for you, above any other app, waiting for your call.
You'll always be just one-click away from your favorite apps, shortcuts and actions.

Features
Floating Launcher
Rovers will float around your screen, above other applications, waiting for your call. Rovers' trigger can be moved around so it won't interrupt your regular use.
Customization
With over 200 colors and 300 icons you can customize every Rover item in a unique way. Moreover, the floating trigger can be styled via the settings screen.
Launch Modes
Using a tablet? We've got you covered! Rovers can be launched horizontally & vertically. Want Rovers to always launch on a specific corner? There's a "Sticky Corner" option in the settings just for that.
Organize Your Rovers
Use folders to keep your Rover items organized and quickly accessible.
Edit-Mode
If you're not pleased with the current Rover items list that you've got, long click on any Rover item, it will launch the 'Edit-Mode'. In the 'Edit-Mode' you can simply drag items to relocate them or slide them away to remove them.
Rovers Actions API
Rovers Actions are basically one-click action that will make your life easier, such as:
Floating app drawer | RAM Cleaner | Flashlight trigger | Direct Call | Settings Toggles & more.
ANDROID DEVELOPERS! We made it easy to create Rovers Actions quickly with an opened Rovers Actions API, it can be found here: http://roversapi.schiztech.com
Translations
We'd really appreciate any help with translating the application :fingers-crossed:
We have a tranlation tool to make things easier: http://translate.schiztech.com

any chance for a Spanish translation? I can help with it if needed
Love the app. Can I suggest putting the name of the button to the side of the icon like a normal FAB?
Also maybe the popup icons a hair smaller then the main icon. Would love to see the ability to add floating widgets.
So much potential with this thing, glad someone was able to get it done.
is it possible to make the bubble smaller?
I've wanted something like this to toggle on and off with Bluetooth in my car for quick access to stuff when driving. I could do this myself, but can it be done with the more settings add-on? Also, can we speed up or remove the opening animation?

No, the more settings extensions will let you customize the appearance of the floating trigger, it has no connection with system toggles.
BUT, we have made a Rovers Action that can do that, just add new Rover -> Choose 'Actions' -> 'Settings'
it'll direct you to download the Action from Google Play, and then you'll be able to add WiFi, Bluetooth, Brightness & Rotation to your Rovers.
Good job, works well
Regards.
@nuttsak
We were thinking about adding labels but dropped the idea to keep the minimal look, we might add it as an option through the settings in the future, thanks for the suggestion.
@Markwarbies
We will look into adding size option through the settings.

Great idea and it is quite beautiful.
Could you pls make it compatible with xHalo (xposed module, a small floating screen for apps) ?
Thanks.
@ho0o0o11111
Compatibility to external tools might be added in the future, but it's not on the top of our list.
We're currently concentrating on making Rovers stable and unique :good:
Hope you understand
I think I was misunderstood. I don't want to switch on Bluetooth via your app. I want your app to launch when connected to specific Bluetooth devices ie my car.
@ratbags that's actually a really cool idea! triggers like bluetooth, location & such... we'll take a look at implementing it.
in the mean while you can hide Rovers in the notifications panel, and only show it when needed.
@doroy Thanks man!
Spanish translation is in our plans but we'll need your help with it, we've came up with a translation tool that will help you all translating Rovers to your on language.
We'll be thankful for any help:

It looks pretty damn good, going to give it a try. How is it on battery consumption?
Looks nice and easy to use. However the animation is slow to show the apps. Its like i press it then wait a good 1.5 sec... so multi tasking seems slower than usong the recents button. Maybe you could make option to remove or make the animation faster....

Great app! Is it translated to Brazilian Portuguese yet? If not maybe I can help with that.
I also have 1 or 2 suggestions if it's OK to share.
Great work!
