Coby Kyros MID7015 Utimate Guide - Rooting, Android Market, ClockworkMod Recovery - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

This guide is written for new users who have NO experience with the Android OS or this device. I do not take credit for the patches/fixes. I am just documenting the process to make it easier for new Kyros tablet users.
Intro Steps
1. Put your device in USB Debugging mode.
From the main menu, press Settings, Applications, make sure Unknown sources is checked.
Press Development, and make sure that USB Debugging is enabled.
2. Turn on your WIFI by going to Settings, Wireless & Networks, check WIFI,and then Wi-Fi settings.
Select your Wi-Fi access point.
3. Open AppsLib,press the search hour glass icon, and type File Manager and press Search. I like the File Manager by mmaapp. Install it. Close AppsLib
Rooting your Tablet
By rooting, what they mean is that you will have full control over all of the files and folders on your tablet. This is a good and a bad thing. It is good because we can add programs. It is also bad because you can delete files that you shouldn’t…meaning you could kill your tablet if you mess around.
1.
From your PC, download z4Root and copy it to your micro SD card. Z4Root can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
2. Put the sd card in your Kyros, and open File Manager.
3. In File Manager, Press SD card, then press z4root.x.x.x.apk (x indicates the version number), and press install.
4. Press Open
5. Z4Root will open. Press Permanent Root. Once it is done rooting, it will reboot your Kyros.
Installing the Windows software and ADB drivers
1. Download and install The Java Development Kit 6here (you will need to register on their site first):
https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/[email protected]_Developer
2. Download and unzip the android-sdk-r07-windows.zip file to the C: drive on your computer.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
3. Go to the android-sdk-windows folder that you unzipped
4. Launch SDKManager.exe
5. Under choose which package to install, click accept all. As a part of what it is downloading, it will download the Android USB drivers. This part will probably take like 30 minutes or more to complete.
6. Once the download is done, close the SDK Manager.
7. You should now see a folder called usb_driver. Open that folder.
8. You will see a file called android_winusb.inf. Open that file in notepad.
--- Alternatively you can just download an android_winusb.inf file with all of the modifications already done here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/435451166/android_winusb.inf
--- You would then just copy over the original android_winusb.inf file in your \android-sdk-windows\usb_driver folder.
--- Once the file is over written, skip to step 12
9. Right underneath the section labeled [Google.NTx86] paste in the following:
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_DEED
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_DEED&MI_01
; Android Eclair
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C01
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C02&MI_01
%SingleBootLoaderInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0FFF
10. Right underneath the section labeled [Google.NTamd64] paste in the following:
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_DEED
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_DEED&MI_01
---- Note --- Thanks goes to phygman for the code here to get the ADB driver working in XP!
11. Save the changes in the android_winusb.inf file
12. Plug in your Kyros device. Windows will still not find the driver for the device, but go into the Device manager, and select AndroidEclair, and update driver, browse my computer, let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
13. Click "Have Disk" and browse to the c:\android-sdk-windows\usb_driver folder. Double click on android_winusb.inf.
14. Select Android ADB Interface.
15. It will then come up with some messages about this is unsigned or something, are you sure you want to do this, click yes or continue.
Then it will install the driver and detect the kyros.
Installing ClockworkMod Recovery to back up your Kyros.
1. On your pc, download recovery.img and place it on the root folder of your sd card (\)
Recovery.img can be found here: sendspace.com vkv6yz
2. Put the sd card back into the tablet and then plug the usb cable into the tablet, and then your pc. Make sure your tablet is powered on.
3. Open the Command Prompt in windows (cmd.exe)
4. Go to the android-sdk-windows\tools folder. Since I placed the android-sdk-windows folder on the root of my c drive, I typed cd\android-sdk-windows\tools and pressed enter.
5. Type adb shell and press enter.
6. Type su and press enter.
7. Type flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img and press enter.
8. Press and hold the CTRL button, then press C.
9. Type adb reboot recovery and press enter.
10. Your Kyros tablet will reboot. Clockwork Mod Recovery will then load.
When Navigating through ClockworkMod Recovery, here are the keys:
Home is down
Menu is select
Back is back
11. Press the Home button until backup and restore is highlighted and press Menu.
12. Backup should already be selected. Press Menu.
13. It will now do a complete system backup. This is ESSENTIAL as it is VERY easy to play around and break your Kyros to the point that it is useless.
14. It will say “Backup complete” once the backup is done.
15. Reboot system now should be highlighted. Press Menu to reboot.
Installing Google Marketplace
1. Remove your sd card and put it back in your pc. Download the file gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip and place it on the root of your sd card (\).
The file can be downloaded here: mediafire.com mjmmfmm0jez
2. Connect the usb cable to the Kyros and the pc.
3. Put the sd card back into the tablet and then plug the usb cable into the tablet, and then your pc. Make sure your tablet is powered on.
4. Open the Command Prompt in windows (cmd.exe)
5. Go to the android-sdk-windows\tools folder. Since I placed the android-sdk-windows folder on the root of my c drive, I typed cd\android-sdk-windows\tools and pressed enter.
6. Type adb reboot recovery and press enter.
7. It will boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery menu.
8. Press Home until install zip from sd card is selected and press menu.
9. Press Home until choose zip from sd card is selected and press menu.
10. Press Home until gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip is selected and press Menu.
11. Press Home until Yes – Install gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip is selected and press Menu.
12. It will then install the Google Market.
13. Once the install is done, it will say Install from sd card complete.
14. Press the back button
15. Reboot system now should be highlighted. Press Menu.
16. It will reboot the Kyros. You will see a Wizard appear. Go through the Wizard
17. You now have the Android Marketplace installed on your Kyros.
I would also recommend installing the AppBrain app from the Google Market. It gives you the ability to install more apps then just the Google Market alone.
Enjoy!

Wow! Thanks so much. Can't figure out how to give you a +rep...
Question: is it possible to do without an sd card? The stock model only comes with internal memory...

The Kyros MID7015 should have (mine does) an port on the side for a MicroSD card. You MUST have an sd card to do these steps. I don't see any other way to acheive some of the steps (particularly with ClockworkMod recovery) without having the MicroSD card installed. My understanding is that it will support a max of a 16GB sd card. I have a 16gb installed and it works great
Plus with a card that big you can put movies on it and watch them with the tablet. The movie player on this is really phenominal!

It looks like XDA stripped out some of my download links. I also posted this how to guide on another website. All of the links are in tact on their site.
http://tipstir.the-talk.net/rooted-...ackup-and-then-install-google-market-t689.htm

Is it possible to get this done through Windoze XP or Linux? I have the files needed and rooted kyros and a terminal on the device...anyway to bypass a pc completely? I just don't have windoze 7.

I came up with the ADB fix myself. I tried both Windows 7 and XP. Even though they are both 32 x86 operating systems, I just can't get XP to recognise the ADB driver. Without this driver, you can not run the ADB commands in Windows. I have heard that there are some programs that will let you type in the commands right on the Kyros, but I have not used them. You will need to find the file on your pc, and it will need to be in the .apk file format. Then copy to the sd card. Put the sd card in to the kyros and launch File Manager. You should be able to install the .apk file, then run the commands on the Kyros.
Again all of that is theory since I have not tried it.
As far as linux is concerned, I have NO idea. I'm pretty linux savy, but getting devices to recognize can be tricky to say the least.
This adb driver in reality would probably work in Vista as well. Surely you know someone who has Vista or Windows 7 that would let you run through the commands?

To make the Windows 7 or XP, x86 or x64 make these changes to your android_winusb.inf.
under the [Google.NTx86] section add :
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_DEED
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_DEED&MI_01
under the [Google.NTamd64] section add :
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_DEED
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_DEED&MI_01
I know these changes work on both windows XP and Windows 7

Could someone please post a Factory ROM backup from their Coby Kyros-4G please?
Before there were these backup instructions above I messed up my WiFi trying to get the tablet to see an ad-hoc network. I have tried everything I can think of to try to fix it, with no luck.
So, if someone could post a backup of the ROM out of the box I would really appreciate it. That should solve my problem.
Thanks.

Effect of Rooting 2.1 on Future 2.2 Upgrade
I am new to Android. The Kyros is my first device, which I got while waiting for the Archos 101. My question(s):
If I root 2.1, what effect will this have on a future 2.2 upgrade.
1. will I have to restore to a baseline 2.1 system before upgrading?
2. will the 2.2 upgrade remove any customizations and downloaded apps?

just followed your tutorial and all went great!
Question: Now that I have finished this, what is required to update to the new firmware file recently posted on coby's website because I hear there are fixes to the touchscreen and wifi?

Ha! I replied earlier and looks like it didn't post.
Phygman...many thanks it seemed to work. However, I have a problem, for a minute I thought I bricked by tablet. I got to the point where I ran the command to reboot into recovery; however, it did not do anything and I did not have any clockwork options. I copied the image from the zip file into the root of sdcard. What do I do with all the other files? Was I supposed to just copy the entire zip instead of just one file? Does the whole archive get unziped, not unzipped? Or just a single file on the SD card? Also, prior to me trying this I upgraded the firmware of the device. Coby just posted it yesterday, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it because everything else like rooting went well.

I'm also wondering if updating prior to following these instructions will affect the outcome

It will not affect your outcome. In fact, if you try to do the update after these steps, you will have to redo each of them. Also, clockwork will not install the update without modification.

I agree with you but I can't figure out what went wrong with Clockwork.
Anyone added clockwork that can tell me what to do with the zip file? I tried extracting all contents of the zip on the root of sdcard and I still don't get anything. Can anyone give me a pointer or two?

ok, I figured it out. I completely bypassed using a pc and did it all within the tablet using a terminal. Finally got to the recovery menu.

anyone know if there are any 2.2 modded roms for this device? google search yields nothing.

Thanks OP. You're procedure worked like a charm!
Now, a procedure for Froyo

Market Place bloat
Does anyone know of a way to either modify the market place zip install or remove the bloat that comes with it ? I installed according to all the instructions and it worked great, but some of the apps don't work like voice search so I'd like to get rid of that, and also the amazon mp3 app and some other apps that came with it that are just bloatware for me.
Any help or hints appreciated greatly.

flashed 3 now
I have done this with 3 Coby tablets now, I will be glad when there is a custom kernel to do some over clocking, since Coby thought it was a good idea to throttle back to 725mhz. I personally went ahead and did the Coby firmware update before I did any other flashing. This is a GREAT thread mega props! These are certainly not the best tablets in the world but for the price they aren't bad...

Thank you for the walk-thru! Made the process very easy.
Anyone have any luck getting Latitude (google maps) working on this? I can't find where to enter my google credentials so when I click "Join Latitude" all I get is logon failed.

ADB Help

Hey im trying to set up ADB on my computer, but I dont have a usb_driver folder in my sdk directory... I do have AdbWinUsbApi.dll anyone have anything for me?
Well i was stuck in a boot loop, formatted SD card, it erased the ROM I had, and now Im stuck in CWM with nothing to flash, and no adb to push a rom to internal SD. Anyway to get CWM to recognize external?
Edit: Found mount/usb in CWM and flashed Vegan 4, but cant get ADB to work for the life of me. I have no usb_drivers folder in SDK, and I keep getting NVIDIA_HARMONY errors in Device Manager..
yeah you have to partition your sd card with cwm in the advanced menu
but find a post on it first cuz there are certain settings that the mem has to be set for (and save anything you want off you sd card)
the data partitions on the sd get mucked up sometimes this is a fairly common problems
search google for "bootloop partition sd card g tablet"
you will find something

That one DLL is not enough... you'll need the USB driver files, downloaded from the Google android website, then add lines mentioned above.
Code 10: Device cannot start
I followed the instructions exactly from the link in the previous post to install the ADB driver, but I continually get the code 10 error. The Device Manager shows
Android Phone:
--Android Composite ADB Interface with a yellow triangle icon
OS: Windows 7 x64 and VEGAn Beta 5.1
Installed Software: Eclipse, Android SDK Windows
added the following lines to the [Google.NTx86] and [Google.NTamd64] sections in the android_winusb.inf file in the usb_driver directory
;NVIDIA Tegra
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0955&PID_7000
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0955&PID_7100&MI_01
executed: echo 0x955 >> "%USERPROFILE%\.android\adb_usb.ini
USB Debugging turned on
I have tried using the premodified file from the link in the previous post and got the same result. Each time I try reinstalling the usb driver, I uninstall the old driver, click on Delete the driver software, then reboot after the uninstall. After reboot, I do the manual reinstall, pointing Windows to the modified android_winusb.inf driver file. Yet each attempt at re-installation results in the code 10 error.
How do I fix this?
UPDATE: Just got it working. Windows had some older driver files in the system32 file that were interfering with the driver i was trying to install. Deleted the other drivers and everything works perfect now.

After rooting, screen looks dead.

I received my transformer today and looked on google for how to root it.
I followed these instructions posted by UBRock on androidforums.com: (as I'm new I cannot post outside links, so I copied the instructions at the end)
After step 4a, my TF booted up like it normally would, with the EE pad screen. Then my screen went to what is shown in the attachment.
I'll turn the screen off, and it will turn on and off by itself.
I've googled and haven't found any issues with rooting this device.
Did I just kill this thing in a few hours? I followed every instruction and had no issues until this.
I bought it off amazon if that matters in case I have to return it. I really hope there's a solution, I got it for a vacation I'm leaving for on Monday.
instructions:
I used this to root my Transformer after the official 3.1 update and it works great. Fast and easy!
The only thing you have to do with ADB is to make sure you have adb installed properly on your computer. Everything is done via scripts.

Rooting Explained + Top 5 Benefits of Rooting by androidpolice.com
What is ClockWorkMod recovery and how to use it by addictivetips.com
STEP 1. Make sure you have all the correct asus drivers installed. Not sure if this is necessary but i had them all installed previously and i didn't run into a single issue.
1a. Head over to Asus Support/download page for the transfomer
1b. Select your PC's operating system from the drop down box.
1c. Download and install the USB driver, Asus Sync, and EEE Pad Pc Suite (don't think this one is needed but i installed them all when i first got my tf).
Step 2. Verify that you have adb running properly.
Since adb.exe is included in the download, you really don't need the sdk or adb from elsewhere.
2a. connect your tf via USB to your PC after installing the driver and other apps from step 1.
2b. Open Command prompt on your pc (win key+R) and open (and extract) Tf_rootkit_31 (link at bottom of post).
2c. Navigate to /tf_rootkit_31/root_app/ folder from the downloaded and extracted file, drag "adb.exe file to the open command prompt window.
(it should read something like C:\....\tf_rootkit_31\adb.exe)
2d. After the "adb.exe" press space bar and type "devices" (w/o quotes ofcourse) press enter.
If it says "List of Devices attached" and under that a 15 mixed numbers and letters (serial number) followed by device then adb is working!
If NOT, look at the stickies or search on google on getting adb to work on your OS.
STEP 3. Now the fun begins Here we will put the TF in APX mode and install the APX driver.
3a. Shut your TF off and while plugged into your PC, hold the volume UP and Power button until your PC makes that USB device plugged in sound and there is a notification about installing drivers.
3b. Open up the driver install thing in status bar and press on cancel (or whatever it is to get it to stop searching online for the driver).
3c. Open Device manager, scroll down to "Other Devices" (might be named something else in xp or vista) and you should see APX something with a small exclamation mark in a yellow triangle.
3d. Right click it, select "Update Driver Software..." -> "Browse my computer for driver software" -> "let me pick from list ..." -> click next -> "have disk" -> Browse -> navigate to the downloaded tf_rootkit_31 folder, open usbpcdriver folder and select "NvidiaUsb.inf" -> open, and all it to install, Ignore the unsigned error, let it install anyway.
STEP 4. Get to installing! Now your TF should be in APX Mode (if memory serves me right the screen should turn on.
4a. Go to the downloaded tf_rootkit_31 folder and double click on root.bat (on the TF screen it should say something along the line of "...update successful..."
4b. (OPTIONAL) if you want clockwork mod recovery, then go ahead and double click cwm.bat [Follow STEP 6 to update CWM]
4c. Restart TF, once rebooted make sure USB Debugging is enabled (Settings->Applications->Development)
4d. double click root_app.bat (this installs su and superuser.apk via adb, so command prompt will open up and do its adb thing and reboot your TF)
STEP 5. Confirm completion and CELEBRATE!
5a. Open your app drawer up after reboot and check to see if the Superuser app is there, if so install an app that requires root access (root explorer, adfree, titanium backup etc) and once you open it up, if you get a box requesting super user permission the you got it working!
5b. do a naked/underwear dance!
STEP 6. Update CWM recovery!! You will need a microSD card
6a. Go over to the CWM thread and download latest version of CWM recovery
6b. Place that downloaded .zip (DO NOT UNPACK) on your microSD card
6c. power TF off, then hold voume down + power button, when you see white writing in the top left of the screen press volume up and you should now bee in CWM recovery. Use volume up/down to move through the options and power button to select.
6d. Scroll down to "Install zip from sdcard" press power button then select "Choose zip from sdcard" and now it should list what is on your microsd, Scroll down and select the .zip you downloaded (as of this writing latest version is named recovery-3.1.0.1-solarnz-R3-240511-1908.zip)
6e. Follow instructions on screen, should be straightforward. And now your CWM is updated!

Adding Android Market to Coby Kyros MID1125 (no rooting)

I hope this helps some people out there, because it drove me nuts trying to find a way to do this for the MID1125 since it's so new...
First off, I was told by the two main rooting software developers that there is currently no way to root my device, so I needed to find a way to add Market without rooting the tablet. BTW, I’m running 2.3.3.
Secondly, none of the guides on how to add Android Market out there worked for me (once again because my tablet is too new). Every time I tried to use Market, it would just keep crashing, so here is how I did it:
1. Turn on the Debugging Mode (Settings>Applications>Development, then check the box).
2. If you have a microSD card in the tablet, safely eject it.
3. Plug your Kyros into your computer with the supplied USB cable and turn USB Storage on. You will then be prompted to open a window up, so do that because that is the internal storage of your tablet.
4. Download and unzip the file I attached to your computer (there should be 8 files in the zip).
5. Drag the 8 files onto the root of your device.
6. Turn off USB Storage on your tablet and disconnect the cable.
7. On your tablet, use a file managing program. I use the one that came stock on the unit, which is ES File Explorer. Once this program is open, you should see “/sdcard/” on the top left. If you don’t, click the home picture toward the top left. Now when you scroll down, you will see the 8 files that you dragged onto the tablet. Install them in the order that they are listed by selecting each one at a time, which should be GoogleBackupTransport.apk, GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk, GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk, GoogleFeedback.apk, GooglePartnerSetup.apk, GoogleServicesFramework.apk, Talk.apk, and Vending.apk.
8. Once all 8 files are successfully installed, reboot your tablet, and when it comes back on, click the Market icon, and log in with the normal Google username and password (or create a new account if you don’t have one).
9. Turn off the Debugging Mode (Settings>Applications>Development, then uncheck the box) and you should be good to go.
* I've successfully done this on three of these MID1125 tablets, so I figured I would try to save others the MANY hours it took for me to figure this out.
Thanks..I been looking for this for a mid1125 for a few days now..even tho I get mines in the mail tomorrow..I'll let u know how it goes when I try this..

Definitely worked..i just used the sd card and it installed perfectly
That's awesome! Glad it worked for you.

Yeah, pass the information along for the new market and especially if someone finds out how to root it. I have already tried z4root and Gingerbreak, neither of which worked.. I was about to try pulling it from my LG Optimus S phone running Cyanogen Mod with Gingerbread 2.3.3. I will test it out and report back. If I can I will post the files for the new market as well.

In google type: coby kiros root 1125 comunidade coby kyros orkut. There is a tutorial to root this coby. This tutorial is in portuguese linguage.but you can.i use the translate from google to use it. I will maker a english tutorial but will spend a little time
You will need to know something about what is being spoke of (ADB in particular) and it's quite rough but here is a copy paste of the process that paulonsf was speaking of. Also note that due to a shortage of postings I can't post links, but I'm sure you can figure out where to put what to make them work :
Coby Kyros ROOT access in 1125
I bring you here in the community a great tutorial made by Paulo Novais, who is here in the community. In this tutorial he explains how to access Root in 1125
Files needed:
Link 3: .mediafire.com/?0flk1abu232me1k (upgrade.zip-this installs the clockworkmod)
Link 4 : .mediafire.com/?cd061vl5465bmed (install su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed-This installs SU)
continuing ..
1 - The ADB tool is a tool that you use the switch to access the tablet.
-2) In a folder with a name for easier access to this folder, for example: C: \ ADBTOOL.
2 - Connect the tablet and the computer using the USB cable, enable tablet mode debugging settings / applications / development / usb debugging.
a. The tablet computer will identify the device as an android.
You can check this panel to identify control / hardware / device. If the drives in the devices should be, automatically installed, an exclamation mark on Android device will appear. This will be necessary
reinstall the drives. In my case I asked him to seek in Windows the best network drive to the device itself and windows found the drives.
b. In the tablet notifications inform him that he is with the way debugging turned on. In addition, it will give the option of connecting to the USB exchange of information with the computer. The one option that you want it mount the sd shows internal and external disk drives in computer. Do not enable that option.
c. To test that you have an established connection type and run the windows: CMD, go to the command prompt. Enter the folder ADBTOOL you created and placed the files in the link 2 (cd
ADBTOOL). One way to know if the drive is installed go type: ADB reboot and press enter. This should reset your Tablet. If you managed to get to that you already have access to tablet via ADB command!. The command: ADB devices also can be used to check if the device is android connected.
Procedure 2 (Installing ClockworkMod):
1 - Put the file update.zip and su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip link
3 and 4 link in an external SD and enter the same in 1125 coby tablet.
No need to uncompress the file, the tablet has the endende
format. ZIP.
a. In the tablet go to setting / about devices / System Update / Install
System Update / From SD CARD. Confirm the operation, the tablet will
reboot and install the update and reload the android system. In this
point CWM (ClockworkMod) was installed. Standards in tablets coby
to go to recovery mode (ClockworkMod) was enough to restart the
holding tablet (power + home). In 1125 coby form is not working,
at least for my coby.
b. To access the CWM use the comand ADB, as explained
above, but type: adb reboot recovery, the tablet will
CWM restart mode. In this mode displays a list of options,
as the backup option, which we talk about topics from previous options,
to update the system, run options of settings files
zip. To make the ROOT will use this last option.
c. To navigate the CWM coby 1125 only gives the option of using the volume
volume up and down (the power button has the same function of the volume up).
Volume will descend down the options. The volume goes up or power button
select the / run option. The problem that occurs in coby
1125, is that if you want to return to the previous option, will not be
possible, there is no button to do this operation. Thus, if you
wrong selection, you need to return the following command: adb reboot
recovery again that the tablet goes to the home screen CWM.
Procedure 3 (ROOT):
1 - Go to recovery mode using the command adb reboot recovery
2 - Scroll down to the option "install zip from sdcard" using the volume down
and select this option using the volume up. Another list will appear
options: choose the "choose zip from sdcard". From there you will see the
su file-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip listed, select this file and
run using the volume down and volume up to navigate to
select and execute.
3 - You will see it run an update. The takes a while. When finished you'll have to use the ADB to give command: ADB reboot from the computer. Because you cannot use the buttons on the tablet to give a reset by CWM.
4 - Ready! When you restart the tablet superuser and run the program, it will get root access and you will see a "#" symbol in notifications from your tablet. A root tip has a program to explore, you can browse directories, change the write option in the directory, copy and paste files. Very good indeed.
Thank you so much for this post. I had been trying to get this done for days on my MID1126 and this worked perfectly!

how do you get the driver for the mid1125 my computer wont find it and when i go to adb it says device not recognized
Market = good to go

Problems adding Android Market to MID1125
I have followed the instructions of how to add the Adroid Market to the MID1125 and still no go. I get the GoogleBackupTransport.apk installed and every other file comes up not installed, with the exception of the Vending.apk which loads. Of course the Android Market does not work. It only flashes a white screen for a second the back to the desktop. I have uninstalled the packages and reinstalled several times, with the same result. I really do not want to root it.
Any ideas, anybody???

the link does not work for 2.3.6 as google fixed the issue on fasboot boot...
---------- Post added at 04:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:01 PM ----------
Damned what a crap...
Has been two days looking around to find a solution, and seems not possible for the 2.3.6...
What a shame google to pretend having open source system and having no way to unlock your device without loosing your data as
- The data is wiped as you unlock the device.
- To fu**ing backup the data you need to have a fu**ing unlocked device.
WTF, I just got it in my ass..
If someone at last know a way....
New Part 2 - Does NOT wipe everything - Keeps a locked bootloader
1. Make sure Part 1 is completed.
2. Make sure you have downloaded the Clockwork Recovery file and the Superuser file.
3. Move the Clockwork Recovery file to your tools folder within the Android SDK folder, and rename it to recovery.img (for simplicity).
4. Connect your Nexus S via USB to your computer and mount it as USB storage. Copy across the Superuser file to the top level of your sdcard. (So the first window you see, not in any other folders. The sdcard is just where all the files are stored, don't worry about it too much for now).
5. We now need to install PDAnet on our PC so that Windows can see our Nexus S when we are using the Command Prompt. Install PDAnet from here, select Samsung when asked about the Manufacturer, allow the driver to be installed (because the driver is unverified, don't worry about this!). Follow along with any other instructions. You should be set now.
6. With the latest SDK version, some tools have been relocated to another directory, so we need to make a copy and move them back. Navigate to the directory where you unzipped the Android SDK file in part 1. Inside it, go to the platform-tools folder, and copy both AdbWinApi.dll and AdbWinUsbApi.dll. Go back to the main Android SDK directory and find the tools folder. Paste these two files in there, and we are all ready to use 'fastboot boot' (the boot image command) now.
7. Open a command prompt window (Start > Run > cmd.exe).
8. Change to the tools directory within your Android SDK folder by using the following command (without the quotes and replacing *YOUR SDK* with the path to your Android SDK folder) 'cd c:\*YOUR SDK*\tools'.
9. Make sure your Nexus S is still in the Bootloader Interface (refer to step 9, part 1 of it isn't).
10. We now need to use the 'fastboot boot' command to load Clockwork Recovery onto our Nexus S. In the command prompt, type in the following (but without the quotes, as always) 'fastboot boot recovery.img'
11. Once you are in Clockwork Recovery (it may take a couple of tries, don't panic, just redownload Clockwork Recovery, and complete steps 3 and 10, part 2) it should look something like this:
12. Using the Volume buttons and Power button, select install zip from sdcard.
13. Select choose zip from sdcard.
14. Select the su-version#-signed.zip file you downloaded earlier and apply it.
15. Select yes (there are lots of nos).
16. Confirm it says something like this: install from sdcard complete
17. Select Go Back.
18. Select Reboot.
19. Done! You should still have all your data present on your phone, and have root access!

[HOWTO][ROOT]Point of View Protab 2.5xxl

Hallo!
I want to to show you how I gained root-access to a Point of View Protab 2.5xxl Tablet.
I only tell you what I did with my device, without any warranty. If you do the same to your device, you do anything on your own risk. Doing these things might end up in a damaged device. When you are not sure what you are doing, do NOT the same to your device. I do not promise anything, I just tell you what I did
I needed a Windows 7 PC whit an installed java JDK 1.7 (If I would not have this, I would download it from java.oracle.com)
The main problem hereby is not the process of the rooting itself, but getting ADB able USB Drivers.
First step: I download the Android 4.1 firmware from the vendors webpage:
http://downloads.pointofview-online...XXL/TAB-PROTAB25XXL-Android 4.1_201212011.zip
Then I extracted the zip-file and followed the Instructions to update my Device.
Second Step: I download the Android SDK from here:
dl.google.com/android/installer_r21.0.1-windows.exe
I installed the Android sdk on my Win7 Computer by doubleclicking on the installer_r21.0.1-windows.exe and startet the Android SDK Manager.
I took some time to load a ist of available packages, and the I could select
Tools->Android SDK Plattform-tools
Extras->Android Support Library
Extras->Gogle USB Drivers
and I pressed the button 'Install 3 Packages'
A Dialog opened and I checked 'Accept All' and pressed the Button 'Install'. I waited to complete...
Third Step: I checked in the Settings of my Protab:
Security->Allow install from external sources
Developer->USB Debugging
I connected my Protab via USB to my PC and opened the Device Manager.
I selected my device which was marked with a yellow warning sign. With a right-click on it I got the context menu and choose 'Properties'.
In the 'Details' tab i selected the Property 'Hardware Ids' where I found the values VID_18D1 and PID_0003
Fourth Step: I opend Windows Explorer and navigated to the folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver
I opened the file 'android_winusb.inf whit my texteditor and copied the lines
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_4E21
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_4E22&MI_01
and changed the copy to those values:
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_0003
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_0003&MI_01
So it matched the values I found in the properties of my device.
I saved the changed file.
Fifth Step:
In the Device Manager I right clicked on my device and choose 'Update Driver'. In the Driver dialog I selected to 'Browse my computer for driver software' and pressed Next. At the point 'Search for driver software in this location:' I navigated to this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver.
I choose to install this driver software even it is not signed.
After this step my Device was correctly recognized by windows.
Sixth Step: Now I followed the Instructions from Bin4ry to root my device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
I choose option '1 Normal', followed the instructions and after this, my tab was rooted...
I hope it was interesting for you to here what I did...
If you do the same, you do it on your own risk! I do not recommend you to do the same
Kind regards, Uwe
ProTab PRO 2.4 root
Thank you for your know-how. I successfully rooted my PointOfView ProTab PRO 2.4 with Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31, mode 1 - New Standard-Root (thx Ariel Berkman).
