Hi Guys,
Is it possible to get HD2's Sense UI on android 2.1 devices? I'm a huge fan of HTC's Sense UI. I'd like to get an android device, but this sense UI is stopping me from getting one!
OMG REALLY!? DO YOU WANT IT!? REALLY BAD!? Haah I'm just messing with you. What Android 2.1 Device are you mentioning. If it's the Nexus One which is the only device that runs Android 2.1, then here;

if not... TOUGH CRAPZ! I sure do hope you're Rooted.
i think hes talking about the windows mobile sense. in other words he wants the touchflo like sense if im not mistaken. As far as i know you can't i don't if anyone even tried
i thought legend and desire do actually have almost the same version of Sense UI? They're Android 2.1 devices as well...
yes hes talking about HD2 which is winMo,
i dont think anyone anywhere has done what he says,
i havnt seen sense UI on android, but its lks amazing from the videos better than winMo sense UI (aka touch FLO 3D).
sense andoid vs sense winmo
I'm a winmo user and am not very familiar with andoid. It seems like sense on either improves the home screen.
I've been with Sprint for about 10 years, but considered leaving just to get the hd2 until they announced the evo.
I like the winmo sense today screen because of the slider (don't want to swipe multiple times to get where I want to be), but it looks like andoid might be a little more flexibe in that each screen can have shortcuts or widgets.
I don't like the look of shortcuts just plastered on the screen though and it seems like winmo has come further in the way of mods (more customization/sense tabs/titanium panels) and I've seen (but not yet used) some that 1.detach sense from windows so you can have the windows today screen and sense and 2.enable you to use windows plugins in a sense tab.
Before touchflo I used ultimate launch. It allows tabs that you can put shortcuts, plugins or widgets on and is very customizable. If it had a slider I think it would rule.
I'm hoping more android mods will come soon. I would love to have a slider on sense and more info on the home screen (calendar, missed calls, voicemails, emails, texts, tasks, some metrics) along with the time and weather.
I'm really just looking for the pros and cons even though I will be on android soon because I've been planning on replacing my mogul for a long time (wanted the tp2 then they announced the hd2 then they announced the evo) and the evo is just tooo good. I guess you gotta stop and get something somewhere even if the scorpion is going to be a phone.
I'm not sure if I'm wrong about anything here and would love to hear anyone's thoughts. I hope I'm not off topic as I think touchflo on android sense would be awesome (more screens/panels too although I hear that's a memory hog).
Sorry for the late reply guys. I was outta station and I lack a smartphone to access internet while I'm travelling
Thanks for your replies.
BTW, G1Bricked, I mentioned about the senseUI of the HD2. If I had liked the SenseUI of Android, I will buy BRAVO itself. I mean, Desire itself.
But, I like the HD2 sense UI a lot (not only for the eye candies, but the three shotcuts on the home page and much more when you slide down). But the only thing that's preventing me from buying the HD2 is its screen!
If there is a way to brinf HD2 Sense UI to Android 2.1, I would buy Galaxy S (Ya, just for the mouth watery screen). I like the default android 2.1 home screen (the one in nexus one), but galaxy S's home screen looks too cheap (IMHO). I guess we can bring the default android home screen on galaxy S easily, but still HD2 sense UI on it will be simply great!
And can any one of you guys help me in comparing the HD2 screen with that of other smartphones(like Nexus one ,desire etc.,) in BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. Cause I guess, at indoors, HD2 is in par with the other devices except for the deep blacks provided by the AMOLED screens. But brightness is the same i guess...
I would love to have the windows mobile sense as well, hope someone comes out with a theme for it.

You know... If you're going to take that tone of text with people, and be a complete jerk in the process, it's usually a REALLY good idea to actually be right in what you claim.
Both the HTC Legend and Desire are also Android 2.1 devices, and both have the original Sense UI on which the current Windows version of it is based.

The latest version of SenseUI, on Android 2.1 devices, is FAR superior to the limited Windows implementation of it (as far as I've seen of it, anyway). What specific functionality are you wanting?
As for the screen, I can see my Desire's screen quite well in sunlight, though if it's REALLY bright and directly on the screen, I might need to shade it with a hand. It's certainly better than backlit LCD displays are.
sense, android vs winmo
In what ways do feel sense on android is better than sense on winmo? Honestly looking for opinions. I'm a winmo user, but am switching to android for the Evo and am trying to learn about it. I like the slider on winmo and the all the new mods like the expanded and multiple page launcher and the swipe (once) to switch from appts to tasks.
I know on android you have 7 screens (i used to use ultimate launch with multiple screens), but I've begun to like minimal effort navigating (like using the touchflo slider) to get where I want. I think it might bother me to swipe three times to get to the screen I want. I know, I'm lazy.
Also, I know if I use the multiple page launcher on winmo I will be swiping multiple times, but I doubt I would have that many apps and I also like using touchlaunch (touch a letter and it scrolls there) mapped to a softkey.
Well, for a start, you can place program shortcuts or widgets where ever you like on those 7 screens, so depending on your choice, you either have no swipes, or a maximum of 3. Also, on the Legend and Desire at least, you don't have to swipe. You can pinch to show all 7 screens, and tap the one you want to jump right to it.
You also have far greater control over what widgets you have, and don't even have to use HTC's own widgets if you don't want to. There's no xml file to hack around in to change your layouts either, just drag and drop. This alone makes it far superior to the WM version of SenseUI.
Finally, some good info

not a big fan of shortcuts just plastered on the screen, I like a structured look, but that's just aesthetics. That does seems versatile, any limit to how many shortcuts per screen or how many widgets per screen? Can you have full screen widgets (of course that would limit you to 7)? I do like the winmo sense slider widgets.

Kinda cool, but I'm not a big fan of that either as I like one handed operations. I feel like multitouch is overkill on a phone, but to each his own and it is a neat capability, just more complicated than a one swipe.

Now that's pretty good news. I'm not sure how many widgets are available in winmo now (I know there are some new ones from mods I think), but I have wished it was as easy as downloading an app.
you know, titanium was like sense on winmo, just ass backwards. You swiped/dragged up and down (the long way) to get to your widget (or panel) and then left and right in that panel.
I want the best of both worlds, windroid.

The only limitation is on available screen real estate. Yes, there are full screen widgets available.

The problem with adding extra widgets in winmo Sense was that I just found a lot of them hack jobs and not very well put together; this is especially true for Titanium widgets. They often needed extra things to be installed such as MortScript just to do things like getting weather forecast; and in a lot of cases, involved having to hack DLL's to get decent levels of customization. They certainly weren't for the average user who just wanted some neat widgets.
I've been a WinMo user since Orange released their first HTC made Smartphone, the C100 or C200 I think it was? Years ago anyway. I've had an Android phone for 1.5 weeks now, and I'm not missing WinMo in the slightest.
wow
Thanks dune fan.
coming from a tp2 i can tell you about the comparisons.
Try the android sense. it appears different... but not really just adapted. On WM there is only one home screen, hence the tabs. but what are the tabs? home, email, contacts, programs, texts, internet....
well on android sense, like you said each screen is extremely customizable...
but stock sense has it organized just like windows mobile. each home screen is filled with a full page widget of... email, texts, social networking, news, weather etc just like wm. except it needs no hacks to change... if you dont li ke the 'tab' or homescreen... just throw it in the trash and load whatever you want.
So, since I loved Sense on my TP2... mine is set up like this. home screen has the exact weatherclock wm has, with a few shortcuts to most used programs. then one screen is texts, one screen is facebook which works aloooot better in android, one screen is a bunch of programs, one screen is emails. the rest I dont really use.
And the HTC keyboard is EXACTLY the same as the WM one, except it never lags, and word correction is easier but looks the same.
The Sense Dialer on Android is, to me, much superior. I hated the n1 dialer bc like Iphone your always scrolling through abc order to find a name. My new superphone took ten times as long to quickly call my friend. But when i loaded the Desire ROM on my n1, the dialer is now almost exactly like the WM one, except it has some more functionality built in.
Honestly I think HTC gave up on WM's Sense, and used it just to bring parity but spent most time developing the Android version. Try it. some people dislike it, but anyone who like the WM version, like me, will be instantly at home. It was like I bought an HD that never lagged or crashed.
I hate to tell this being the OP.
I don't feel like I want the WinMo Sense UI anymore. I was just obsessed with it. And after seeing many Android Sense UI, I feel like the android one's are more user friendly.
What's more shame one me (being a WinMo fanboy) is the fact that, after seeing the videos of Legend and Desire I kinda started liking Android 2.1. It all began with the Google Nexus One. Now HTC has perfect 2.1.
I very well realize that Android has a lottt of catching up to do, to where WinMo is now, but still
Now that I'm more inclined towards android 2.1, why should I go to a phone without Super AMOLED?
Everything is okay with I9000 Galaxy S. Except for few shortcomings...
A) It doesn't have SENSE UI. But I guess it won't be a problem. Won't you guys help me in porting senseUI to I9000?
B) It doesn't have flash. (What? No flash??)
C) The design looks awful. Both the hardware and software is a cheap replica of iphone - shame on Samsung.
If only there was a HTC phone with super AMOLED display, I can make a decison super quick!
Now I need this

It's about as possible as running OSX software in Windows without the aid of emulation or virtualisation.
android sense is much better from hd2 sense. i talk you as winmo addicted

Is their such an app that allows for a single, wide, wallpaper that scrolls with tabs? I came across HDWall but i am skeptical about using it, plus all i want is what i described above and nothing more.
such features are called panoramic wallpaper, one of android's eye candy IMHO
as far as i know, the only app that able to bring you that panoramic thingy is the HDWall, and judging by the huge number of users, it should be good and safe enough to use.
..or try searching for MaxManila around the forum, it also has the ability to enable panoramic wallpaper, but it'll also put in a lot of other features you might not really need.
otherwise, buy an android phone instead
Moved as not software release.
For some reason, no matter the resolution of the image I select for my wallpaper, it seems as if the tablet just zooms in on one part of the image and stretches it out. I have also tried selecting the largest section the gallery will allow, but it still just looks pixelated with a huge loss in background quality. Anyone have solutions?
HI Res Wallpaper
Download "Multi picture live wallpaper" from the market. Will solve your problem.
It's not showing up on the market for some reason. Do you happen to have the apk? Thanks
Here you go.
thanks man. I will give it a try
Might sound like a n00b question, but how to you go about installing this app? I unzipped the folder but there is no .apk file, and I tried installing the zip using CWM but still no results...

I opened the zip with astro. Apk was definitely there.
Once its installed you should find it under live wallpapers. Its not a seperate app.
Thanx to rapcon for the suggestion and upload.
Sent from my VEGAn G-Tab
Yup I kinda figured it out now, lol, I was using the iFile Manager that came with TnT Lite, but I guess its not as good as Astro, thanks

Thanks for the recommendation.
Is there another way to create wallpapers and set them so that they show up with better resolution?
I expect that there is a preferred size and file-type that android prefers. For example, the vegan-tab default wallpapers always look centered and clear, but when I set a .jpg file to be the wallpaper, I only see one top corner of the image.
Robeet had recommended 1024x1024 in the past, but that didn't work for me.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks for the app, but unfortunately it seems to assume 7 horizontal screens. Sweeter Home uses 5 screens arranged in a '+' shape, so it looks fine on the main screen but the left and right screens don't display anything.
Thanks for the app post. I too have been struggling to figure out how to get high def wallpapers to work. I use launcher pro, 5 screen and have the settings configured to allow wallpaper scrolling. When I enable multi screen live walpaper, it still doesn't show the image as high of def as it should.
For example, I went to interfacelift and downloaded a 1024x600 nature image. When viewed in the browser (stock), it looks quite good. Very sharp and crisp. However, when I save this image to the sdcard, and set it up as the wallpaper in multi screen, it gets all blurry and looses definition. I've gone through all 3 settings of "crop/resize ratio" and none produce the same high def image as I see in the browser.
Is anyone else having similar issues? Anyone have any suggestions on what to try next? I guess I should switch back to the stock launcher just to see what it does.
The image would actually need to be wider than 1024px due to the wallpaper scrolling. If you used an image 1024x1024 it would need to be stretched out to something like 1600x1024 (only a guess) to account for the area of image to left and right of the middle home screen.
EDIT: I'm talking about the standard wallpaper not the live wallpaper app.
Wallpaper
I have not got my GPAD with me so I cannot check but I suggest you find the default wallpapers and see what size they are. And place your wallpeprs in that directory.
I beleive the crop tools in gallery etc are not the correct aspect ratio for this tablet.
similiar question.. i read wallpapers should have 1024x600.. then i made some of my own. NOW i cant apply them. Stupid androind always asks me to crop them, so they look horrible. Dont know how to apply a simple wallpaper. Anoying...
A few of us with Advent Vega's have had the same issue,
I did some testing and experimenting with Launcher Pro, and at least have a definitive understanding of what you need to get 1:1 pixel perfect wallpapers..
THIS IS ONLY FOR LAUNCHER PRO!!!! I think other launchers like ADW use different wallpaper algorithms..
*Firstly, no matter what, you need to use programs like "Wall Switch" available on the Market, or "Wallpaper Chooser" (I got this via app brain), these inject the wall papers without resampling and ruining the image.*
The native resolution of the wallpapers should be 1200 x 1024 (W x H), It depends on orientation as to which part of the image will be used, but basically using this overlay I produced (Attached), you can see which portion of the image is displayed in the middle launcher screen, when you scroll to the other screens, it will just shift the image left/right to the full extents of the image width, so in Portrait, you get a lot of scroll, in Landscape, not so much!
You can use image sizes larger then 1200x1024, as long as you keep the aspect ratio the same..
I believe for ADW, the wallpaper size is different, over on "vega.modaco.com" you can see a similar thread about ADW wallpapers, I added the LP info in there as some people where using LP over ADW.
after a little more googling...Multipicture Live Wallpaper turned out to be great... the only one, after tested quite a few, that works, and we even get an extra if we want to change wallpaper often...

Yep. I got it here on xda.
Woks perfectly.
hey guys. we just got a Xoom for my wife and are having a blast so far. i know we're coming in late in the game.
I did a lot of searching and have come up with all sorts of answers as to what is the proper resolution for the wallpaper.
I don't care too much about the perfect format to include all of my image in the wallpaper...what I care about is once I choose an image for the wallpaper, that it look sharp and detailed and not blurry or full of artifacts because honeycomb is stretching the image.
no matter what size image i've tried this far, 99% of the time what ends up actually shown as my wallpaper is a zoomed in portion of my image, and because of the stretching to fit the screen it doesn't look too good.
your input is appreciated. likewise if there is anywhere to just go and get Xoom-sized decent wallpapers I would appreciate a link too
thanks!
Same for me! Whatever resolution, big or small, it just wants me to crop the image, I tried searching for this for a while but I came up with no solution. Hopefully someone here knows.
EDIT: TRY Wallpaper Wizardrii
If you click on the little + icon at the top right of the screen, you see the entire wallpaper. It zooms the wallpaper and i dont know why it was implemented in such a demented way. Everything you put ends up looking low res and washed out. There is a guide that shows how to add a black bar to the bottom portion of a wallpaper so it fits the screen properly and looks sharp, but this doesnt work well in portrait.
Check it out here: http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-graphics/320-getting-wallpapers-fit-just-right.html
Also see this app on the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.twistedapps.wallpaperwizardrii
I heard this app works well.
Hmm! I have the same problem but with movies... They look unsharp a little bit...also on the youtube app even in hd...
Ok, so I picked an Atrix 2 when I jumped ship from Sprint, and I have a question about making custom wallpapers for this device. If I remember correctly, having a qHD screen means the wallpaper size is 1080x960, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd like to create a custom static wallpaper out of smaller images so that when I change screens between the five available each picture is different. I can't seem to find the right resolution balance to make it happen, so I thought I'd see if anyone can point me in the right direction. I was under the assumption that if I used 216x960 pictures that it would work, but I'm having issues. Thanks in advance.
The resolution on the atrix2 is 540x960.
I'm aware of that, but if you pull a default wallpaper, you'll find it's 1080x960. I think I may have found the answer though. Apparently Android doesn't allow for separate wallpapers on each home screen using the default launcher. Only way I can find is using an app on the market. Kind of a clunky way to do it, but it's working so far.
