Interested in asking for GTab for xmas - G Tablet General

Thinking about asking for the gtab for christmas and i've seen many videos that were very well done by ehunyadi and i see the buttons on his device are in the upper right hand corner when holding it and there are 4 buttons however on sear's and kmarts website the G Tablet i find only has 3 buttons on it, these are the same device correct?
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00382001000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1
Notice the 3 buttons above and in ehunyadi's videos the buttons there are 4 of them.
Just confirming that the image on sears and kmarts web sites is just wrong.

Yes, pictures on sears and kmart are of the wrong tab. The specs are right, it's just the wrong picture.

So if i was to ask for the one on kmart or sears website it will be the right device right? the one listed above that is.

i'd like to go return my sears one and get a staples one for $70 less.
Ditto. I paid $399.98 plus tax @ Staples!
That was the second post in this forum that stated a cheaper than $399 gtab. The first was a $340 tab if you buy a two year warranty from sears for $50. No one responded to my question on that one, I am thinking because it wasn't true.
I think this one is either not a g-tab or just another unsubtantiated rumor.
Were is your power switch?

Sears is still showing the wrong picture. They are showing the Windows 7/Android 1.6 version. The ad has been screwed up from the start. At least the description is right now.
So, the Staples and Sears G tablets are the same. Sears just has the wrong picture.
yes.. they both have 4 buttons. Sears has the wrong picture up.
Ahh.... that's what that is, 15% off coupon and a staples 10 dollar card, since the tab wasn't on there site for notebooks or computers I talked the GM in to it, I believe it was 97015 coupon coded
Google it and bring your negotiations skills

He must have been referring to this coupon:
http://reg.e.staples.com/c/s/tagfrm/hBM5i--B7SHGCB8VwsiDaLRoA0c/coupon.html?n=834&email=
It says that it excludes ALL computers. But Staples has the g-tablet listed under the 'Electronic Book Readers" section. So that is what he meant by "bring your negotiations skills".
Coupon expired 11/21... BLAH!
I tried to get them to give me the discount, it was a no go. I tried telling them that coupon said desktops, laptops and netbooks but doesn't say tablets. They said it is like laptop and I said well if they take the time to say netbooks and netbooks are more like a laptop than a tablet they would have said tablet in the coupon. Oh well I tried....
Staples for $399.98
I got mine from Staples for $399.98

Returned the G, chatted with Sears MGR

The viewing angles finally got the best of me...
The Electronics MGR must have seen me coming...he had the return process mostly done by the time I got to the counter. I didn't even have to give a reason.
He mention that he had gotten 30 in. He sold 8. All 8 came back.
He also mentioned that none of the sales team was recommending it, because it's bad for the bottom line...
Did they charge you the %15? Also, which Sears?
Yeah, which one. I need to pick them up at $279 a piece!

Stuff is usually more expensive in Hawaii... how much?
Do you guys think most sears have returned gtabs?
http://www.searsoutlet.com/10-Andro...md&cid=1483&pn=1&ps=10&pid=70612&mode=buyUsed
I would almost be afraid to order from there. Had anyone ordered from the outlet? The site mentions scratched items.
Inticing at 100 off retail...what do ya all think?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Gotta be in ny for that one.
I just picked up my second G tab from the Sears in Scranton PA. Ordered from searsoutlet for 279. This one is a gift for my brother.
When I got to the customer pickup the lady said that "they don't get stuff from sears outlet" and that the tablet she got for me was from a pile of other tablets.
The package was unopened...and when i unboxed the tablet it looked completely untouched.
So bottom line is..I got a brand new tablet for 279.
Im not sure what the deal is with the searsoutlet but i know that tabs pop up a lot...and I don't see how they could have been sent back and forth to China for refurbishing?..?
CLick on the "refurbished" link. That is the term they use for anything NOT new! LOL!
I just realized that you cant order it to be delivered anyways... so must be a way for them to get rid of open box product and such. Closest one to me is Alabama ... and I am in California oh well.
Holy cow 8 out of 8 returned? After showing mine to a client the other day I told them if they wanted one to wait until Honeycomb comes out in 2011 and the bugs are worked out. Being that I would be the one supporting it.
I'm waiting for one to show up in the local Sears Outlet here, with the state this thing is in by default, $400 is way too high.
Viewsonic is going to catch hell from a bunch of retailers over this one.. Sears, Staples, Office Max (?), any others selling this lemon?
The fine folks here on XDA are making good strides on the tablet, and I suspect soon there will be good ROM that "just works", but out-of-box this thing is total crap and the 8 of 8 returned doesn't surprise me one bit.
THey may be out of stock but the site is now giving awat 9 quadrillion dollars with the purchase of the tablet... do you think this is a good deal
h t t p : //i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1/awlllwa/negative9quadrillion.jpg
(hmmm for some reason the forum thinks im a new user all of a sudden and wont let me insert a pic... lame, so i spaced out the http so it would post)

Gtab no longer listed at Staples.com?

I am planning on picking up a Gtab tomorrow at Staples, since the one near where I work has them in stock. I checked the website just out of curiousity and they're no longer listed. I know that Staples was very down on them...none on display and the first time I went in someone who works there told me that they were dissuading people from purchasing them.
Anyone know anything about their clearance policies?
I asked my local Staples about it, a few weeks back - they said that they did not have one.
If they are pulling the GTab, I should call them and see if they'd sell the floor model. I was nice enough to update the firmware for them a week back (they weren't at the latest).
In the store yesterday and in fact in this week's local sale paper for $399.

I was surprised too when I searched for it on Staples website.
Now at Office Depot
In this morning's paper at Office Depot for $399. I suspect that perhaps Staples temporarily pulled the unit because of price match concerns with Sears at $350 last weekend. I've noticed that in the past when OD had an item cheaper that suddenly the availabilty of an item at Staples went to zero. Could be that they just sold out coincident to the lower price but does make one wonder.
That said, I missed my price match by a few days but still glad I pulled the trigger and have a nice little tablet and a few days off to explore. Thanks to the efforts of folks here it works really well at this point.
i got mine from staples sunday... i'll be returning it saturday. i love the speed, but man the screen is so low quality. how can viewsonic even consider sending out such a bad screen.
so, columbia, sc location may have an open box one this weekend

Awesome....I'll hopefully be able to pick that one up for a decent price.
i got my tablet at staples just because are sears closed down a few months ago. it kind of looked out of place to me i was thinking it was a seasonal sale

gtabs not on any sites anymore?

So I just noticed that the G Tablet is no longer listed at Sears, Staples, and Kmart online hope this doesnt mean anything bad for the future of the gtab.
still there
I'm still seeing it on amazon.com and Kmart's site.
I noticed that myself. If you follow the "purchase online" link from Viewsonic, all links show not available. I did talk to a rep @ my local Office Depot who said he just received 6 more on his last order that stated "final shipment". They are now directed to order the VIEWPAD 10 which is the dual boot W7/ android version.
Makes me wonder if Viewsonic is halting production on the GTab.

Def not listed on kmarts website. unless you are mistaking it for another device, and as said in previous post on viewsonics website they arent showing it listed anywhere either. as for that dual boot tablet that seems cool but last i heard it was running 1.6 which is just not acceptable.
GTAB still available at the Office Depot
This is where I bought mine, and the price dropped by $20.
DRATS!! *lol*

Good to see that it is still on some shelves but it is a little scary that it looks like they are dropping it since noone is carrying it anymore, even though we have the best devs out there with the gtab in hands doing ground breaking work every day on xda
*UPDATED* Viewsonic's website no longer has a link for "online merchants" or "stores near you".
Doesn't look good.

Not at all, surprised this thread isnt getting more attention esp for the love we all have for our tablets. It was pointless though to have those 2 links if they pointed to nothing lol.
*UPDATE 2*
Just got off the phone w/ Viewsonic. Production has NOT been halted on the GTab's. Rep was only able to find it available at Sears. Nowhere else. What "might" be causing the problem is guys like us buying up all the stock from local retailers.
I was told that K-Mart especially will pull links to products that are out of stock to prevent surplus back orders.
We'll just have to keep an eye open for future developments.
Heading to Office Max right now to buy the last 1 in stock.
Brings my stable to 4. I'm happy.

Viewsonic "Find a ReSeller"
http://www.viewsonic.com/shop/find-a-reseller.htm
Online Store:
http://store.viewsonic.com/html/ibeCZzpHome.jsp?site=VS_STORE&respid=22372
Wow I ordered mine two days ago. Just under the wire. Hopefully it will be back better then ever at some point.
Tt
Those links still do not produce a Gtab for purchase.
Compare:
Gtab http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/
Vpad10 http://www.viewsonic.com/products/vpad10.htm
The Rep @ VS had no explanation as to why those links were pulled from the Gtab site.
The Gtablet has always been a stepping stone, so if it has vanished, the issue now is will the VP at Viewsonic that told us of the continued support and software updates still hold true?
BTW, the Viewpad is inferior for a few reasons for Android:
1. A lot less battery life due to Atom cpu and required fan.
2. Windows overhead
3. Android boot mode is 1.6 only
4. Atom CPU may never get support higher than 1.6, since Microsoft is pushing for the newer chipset to be used in tablets. Do not let OEM try to BS you that 2.1, yet alone 2.2 or higher is coming- Too late in the chipset curve to bother.
For an Android device and the combination of power and battery life- the Gtablet is FAR better than the Viewpad.
BTW, the current Atom based Viewpad is a stepping stone as well.
While the area Staples stores do not have the gTablets any longer, my local store's tech person told me this afternoon he "expects to have them back in stock soon." No details but then there never are about tech stuff availability when not in the store or computer. We shall see.
Sears has plenty in stock......store today had 3 or 4....

It's still on the Sears site: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00382001000P?prdNo=16&blockNo=66&blockType=G66
In fact, they still have yet to update their site to remove the Viewpad specs...
BigJohn
it is the reality I guess, whether stores/sites still selling gtab or not, in the next few months, people won't buy it anyways. There are more better tablets (at least on the paper) coming in next few months with a similar price points such as ASUS, Elocity A10, etc. Unless Viewsonic decides to upgrade the model with a better screen, better software, etc.. I don't see how gtab can compete with others if the price is still around $350 - $400..
On the positive side, the hardware is still good enough to run the next android OS (honeycomb). I will be very satisfied if I can get honeycomb on my gtab and it can last a year..
Just my 2 cents.
That is not the g-tablet.. its the viewpad.. its different. Sears did sell both.

gTab in RETAIL Store?

Anyone know how a store selling these? I'd like to go see it in person
Office Depot
thanks! I will see if there is one around me
Go to Sears if you have in your city.
about to go check it out at sears, hope i dont hate it since i bought one lol
Lol don't forget that's a stock gtab that your going to check out at office depot or sears. Its a totally different ball game after installing a custom rom. Oh and don't forget to look at their price tag too and compare it to what you got it for. . You lucky person you!
drove all the way to Sears to see a fcking cardboard cutout LOL
I will just keep waiting I guess
i know office depot had a working display but it was force closing like crazy. still got one because i knew about the devlopment on it here and i love it. hopefully nvidia and google will get around to releaseing the HC libs and source so our fine devlopers can start making us all drool with screen shots!
Office depot Sears electronic express
If you see a store demo, look at the hardware only. The software is very likely to be the original 2967 firmware, which is complete crapola. Even the latest stock ROM is significantly better.
I'll have to check Office Depot on my way home tonight. Hope their display copy works.
